Hi guys, I am looking to purchase either a Note 4, or Note 5. I have read up on Note 4 reviews and people say it tends to lag, specially the gaming it lags. Is that fixed in the lollipop update? or the lag is still ther?

No I disagree with the rumour. I used to play games in stock lollipop rom without having lag issue with games under 100mb. Not sure with 'heavy' games..

Don't understand the question tbh. If all you're looking for is a lag free and snappy phone, go for the Note 5! It has better hardware.

have you tested Asphalt 8 like games
Yes I did installed some 3D games & there were just fine. I'm using exynos version. Go for snapdragon note 4 or 5 for better gaming experience

Hey there, I was just wondering why game on Nexus 4 is more lagging compeer with Galaxy S3 (NFS MW12, GTA Vice City) and have less effects again compeer with G3 (Modern Combat 4)?? :fingers-crossed:
*compare
And it might be an issue with your phone. I experience zero lag while gaming. Also, search a term called "thermal throttling"
It may have less effects as developers are still finding it difficult to get their hands on one. Once they do, I expect them to test it with full effects and update as appropriate

I hope that's true as after watching a comparison between the Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 I am sure Nexus 4 can handle the graphics.

I'm not talking about benchmarks or specs but rather real world use. I've looked at tons of videos on youtube and the note 2 has the s4 consistently beat on opening apps and websites. Is it because it has a larger motherboard??? They both have quad cores and the same 2gb rams. Or is this because of software optimization because the note 2 has "mature" software.

Its because of android optimization. Note 2 is running on 4.1.2 which had loads of updates allready. Don't forget that the s4 is the only smartphone which runs 4.2.2 at the moment (except the nexus devices). S4 will get updates and will get just better and better. We just need to be patient.

true.. Note 2 is running 4.1.2 hence is faster than S4.. nevertheless, S4 is getting faster (using WanamLite) better battery life, smoother.

I too have used a note 2 stock and with many roms
and now have moved to S4 since 26 april and no doubt that S4 is fast and enjoyed using it and never wud want to go back to Note 2
this is my personal experience and havng abt 40 apps and not filled with any crap and keep the phone with only thing req
How can 4.1.2 be faster than 4.2.2 if it's the same Google release?
I've had an s3 and it was super buggy and slow even with custom rooms. My note 2 in the other hand was a beast!! Opening and closing apps was a breeze and Web pages loaded smoothly. The s4 on the other hand I'd rate as being in the same league as the mote 2 which is disappointing given that this is a newer generation chipset. I'm more excited for the release of the Google edition though which is the main reason why I switched to an s4.

Simple answer... new software needs time to get the bugs out.
Sent from my GT-I9500
Android 4.2 needs fixing definitely , or perhaps optimisation on key lime pie will be better ... Hopefully
I noticed this one too. My friend has the Note II (I also had the same device a couple of weeks ago) and the device is noticeably faster than my GT-I9500.
same here.. i have both and note2 is faster in everything, specially taking photos.
No wonder my sister's s3 on 4.2.2 is performing terribly. Lag is prevalent and touchwiz keeps on crasing and restarting everytime she plays games.
To be honest the s4 is a disappointing upgrade over the note 2, this is one of the few times wherein I wished I stuck with my old phone lol You can't really tell the difference except with the screen and the battery life but there's a big 150 dollar difference in the price tag.
When comparing my new Note 3 - factory reset and stock - to my Note 2 - factory reset and stock, the Note 3 is CONSIDERABLY slower.
Both on the same WIFI connection, in both Chrome and Stock Browser, the Note 3 will take anywhere from 10-12 seconds to open xda-developers.com whereas the Note 2 will be open in 2-3 seconds. I'm doing this side by side. With video, the Note 3 stutters no matter which application I use: YouTube, Chrome's built in player for MP4's, or the stock video player. The videos are unwatchable. The same videos on the Note 2 open without an issue and play perfectly.
Am I missing something here? Some people had said they went into developer options and Forced GPU rendering, turned off S-Voice's double tap on the home button option and made sure the Smart Screen options for playing video were off.
Do any of you have this issue? Is this just a lemon? I got mine on the glitch so I kept my unlimited data, I still have about 5 days to return it. (I went on an impromptu vacation, so I wasn't able to play with this until yesterday.
Can't say I agree with you. I have a note 2 that I still use on at&t and my note 3 blows it away. Could be just yours I'm not sure. However both of my devices are rooted and I haven't had my note 2 stock in sometime.

If yours is blowing the Note 2 away, I guess mine certainly has something wrong with it. I can barely find any Google search results for "Note 3 slow" "Note 3 Lag" or similar. I don't think I've been so frustrated in a while. You know that feeling of new tech in your hands? Was just a letdown when I opened it and noticed how slow it was.
Hmm can't say the same over here unfortunately. I'm very pleased with it. Have you rooted? You seem like you aren't the type to root or you are just comparing stock to stock?

Haven't rooted, but doubt that will do much to improve speed. Will I root? Yea, I just need a phone that does what it's supposed to first. I'm comparing stock to stock because my Note 2 was going to be sold on ebay (I usually return anything I sell back to a stock phone) and the Note 3 because it's a simple out-of-the-box comparison.
Basically, I opened the box, started playing around and realized the difference in speed, so it halted my plans.
Run an antutu benchmark, what are your results? If it's a problem with the hardware that should be reflected in the score. For reference I think my phone runs smoothly, I scored a 35904 on antunu.

Could it be touchwiz?

I know benchmarks don't mean shnikey.. but seriously I have yet to break 36k (35269 was my last test), had mine since last Saturday and don't have the slightest hint of lag or stutter anywhere whether it be in app, app drawer etc.. would definitely look at the apps running and start disabling stuff this thread is helpful if you haven't done so http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478589
I have been really waiting to buy the Note 4 since months. I didn't buy the LG G3 mainly due to it's poor performance on the QHD display. Just came across this video on YouTube of Note 4 playing the GTA sanandreas and now I am starting to get a bit skeptical about it's performance. Just hope the game might have not been optimized for Note 4 yet ??
Here is the link
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQ4WgowL3Ls
Here is an interesting article that explains about the poor gaming peformance of Note 4. According to this article, iPhone 6/6 Plus is superior and miles ahead when it comes to gaming. Am i missing something here ? Why is there a lot of difference ?
http://appleinsider.com/articles/14...r-graphics-performance-vs-apple-iphone-6-plus
Clearly a camera issue. He even says in the video that the performance was closer to him playing on a console(PS2/Xbox). Who buys a phone to play games like this anyway? Get a console or a PC to do that, dude! Use your phone to play simple games, like pac-man, or angry birds. No one should expect a phone to perform flawless gaming. That's not it's primary function, just be happy with what you get. Not once have I heard Samsung pitch this phone as a "gaming" phone. It's the Note series man, it's meant for business/productivity/etc, not playing games like a teen. Get a PSP.
Yeah lol. I have been a Samsung fan. I used Galaxy S, S2, S4, Note, Note 2. When you are buying such a high-end phone, you would expect to play games also on your device. If at all you need is to play Angry birds, etc. I would be more than happy with my Note 2 or S4. And yeah top end phones do perform flawless gaming nowadays. Technology has evolved to such a point that no one really feels the need of a PSP anymore. Hope u got my point

Yeah, I get your point. I'm just saying, don't set your standards so high that just because one aspect of it doesn't perform flawlessly, that stops you from recognizing a good phone. I'm not too big on mobile gaming, but the games I do play are a little less graphic/cpu extensive than GTA, so maybe I'm bias. This is a great phone from what I've heard from other users, and what I've experienced in store myself. Not PERFECT, but a definite upgrade to someone like me who currently rocks a Galaxy Nexus haha
I agree it's a great phone no doubt about that. Nothing would stop me from getting this phone. But i was a little worried that's it.

My nexus 4 lags alot in high settings htc one m7 and g2/g3 too my exynos note 3 not laggy though
For games resolution shouldn't be an issue, none of the games would run natively at QHD resolution. Forget QHD, most games won't run natively at FHD.
And to @krishelnino, put the threads in appropriate section. Such threads should be under "Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" forum.
I saw that Gaming video and he says that the performance on standard settings is excellent, smoother than Sony Z3. However, when he maxed out the settings the Gameplay sucked ,worse than Z3. Probably due to display resolution differences.
That's to be expected but what I want to see is how Exynos deals in the same scenario-Max settings! @DelBoy any chance you test your Exynos beast on max settings (see video from 2:50+) and see if performs better than Snapdragon? Thanks!

You didn't watch the entire video. He said it runs well on the lowest settings, so when he upped the quality things got very, very bad.
RR3 ran and looked great when I installed it at BB on a demo. Device never got hot and I played it for about 15 minutes. I wanted to walk out with it.
Both GPUs (Adreno 420 and Mali T760) can't handle such high resolutions very well. But it might have other reasons too, as some games doesn't support such high resolutions natively (as it has been said before).

I doubt that it is the Qualcomm version.
All currently available Note 4 models have the Exynos chip.
The first batch of Qualcomm Notes should be out on the 10th or 17th October.
I also doubt the game has been patched to maximize performance o. The s805 and or Exynos either. It takes weeks for devs to patch games after the new wave of games comes out guys...ask Any Apple fan how the 6+,handles most games at present (re:worse than the 5s)

My Samsung Galaxy Tab S can, and its a higher resolution. So I would lean towards the game needing an update for newer devices.
I am currently using a HTC M8. It has no lag and is very fluid. I am looking to go with a Note 4 either with Exynos or Snapdragon. I heard and read that Touchwiz has a lot of lag and stutters.
http://www.sammobile.com/2014/10/31/its-2014-samsung-why-does-your-software-still-lag-even-on-a-flagship-device/
I am wondering if the lag is worse on Exynos or Snapdragon or they both are the same lag. I have not had a Note since the 1st version. The first note had considerable lag.
Thanks.

Im and old nexus and htc one m7 user im using exynos version for 2 weeks atm. All i can say its not htc smooth cuz longer animation times etc. but its very smooth and fast only lag i notice is recent app menu but its not like 2 seconds mentioned in article only 0.5 sec for me and it doesnt happen always. I didnt see other lags mentioned in the article. Like gallery is super fast for me even i use sd card and alot of photos and videos in it i didnt see any slow loading etc. Its definetly great nothing really bothered me since i hated touchwiz lag always.
From what I read, more people complain about lag with Snapdragon. Maybe there are more of those devices, who knows. I will likely get the Exynos version N910C, if I can find it online. I don't like carrier locks.
No lag or stutter on my Snapdragon Note 4, I'm very happy with it, runs faster than my S4. The Recent app menu has a slight delay but that's it, seems to be how it was made, generally great performance.
I wonder if the article writer may be using a branded Note 4?
In fact, it seems that the snapdragon users also get a better battery life. So I suspect there is a link.
Everything I've read and seen online points towards the snapdragon being the better out the two for speed, battery and future development. Want to make sure i get the right one myself, esp as im going to have it for the next 2 years...
Snapdragon may be the way to go but it is on At&t in my case. I believe they boot lock their versions. Tethering would be a problem. I may wait for the developer version to get to At&t. Verizon already has one. I'll wait at this point. Other option would be to go with unlocked Nexus 6. Choices.... and even Edge if it ever gets released.
