how to get Nexus Protect in Canada? - Nexus 6P Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for a way to circumvent the regional restriction on buying my Nexus 6p.
In Canada I can buy the device, but I can't get the Nexus protect, only in US; is there a work around to allow me to buy from the US Playstore? I want the warranty, my carrier only carries the 32g model, but I want 64, and a different color; I also don't want to go without the coverage, especially with some of the concerns about bending a device.
Appreciate your advice.

Can you get Squaretrade in Canada? I heard there were some discount coupons flowing around
Other than that, go spend a weekend with a friend in the US and buy the phone there. You won't pay import duties if the phone is under CAD$800. Only bad thing is, if you ever want to make a claim, I don't think they'll ship to Canada, so you'll have to use your friend's house again.
Edit: Nexus Protect is available in Canada now

Any reason NOT to buy a developer phone?

Hello.
I'm absolutely thrilled by the G1 and Android's open source capabilities. Now I wonder why I should buy this smartphone with an expensive carrier plan when I simply can get it as a developer version with a nicer design, no T-Mobile branding and a wider functionality. It's also unlocked and about 50€ cheaper when I buy the developer phone instead so that I can use my HSDPA flatrate with it and enjoy all the benefits for just a fraction of the money for a carrier phone. So are there any negative aspects of a developer phone or even restrictions?
In the first place I want to simply use it as my main mobile phone and working device but I also intend to develop private applications for it.

Really the only difference between a developer phone and a modded standard phone is the art.
You can easily unlock a standard phone with one simple call, free of charge. The rest (Dev SPL [although HardSPL is 20x better], and ADP firmware ect) are all flashable, and can be used at any time you'd like.
That sounds good. So I think I will take the opportunity and buy the dev phone as I see no advantage from a regular one.
If I order from a European country, will the phone be delivered from overseas or do they have some kind of local stock? Is there anything else I should know before buying a developer phone? Is there a shorter guarantee and service period if there is any at all? Who will repair it if it's broken (HTC I guess)?
The dev phone is only available to certain countries so it depends on your country. Plus you have to register as a dev ($10 I believe).
It's available here in Germany but I heard it will ship from the USA which costs a lot of additional taxes. Do I lose my guarantee when flashing a regular phone?
Disadvantage of the developer phone, being afraid of messing up the nice unique back graphic.
I have a developer's phone, my friend has a G1. Honestly, the G1 looks like a toy compared to the dev-1. Whereas I've got rubberized grip all over the phone, his is that hard white acrylic. It doesn't look anywhere near as sweet, my friend and I both agree.
the shipping will kill u definitely, so if you plan to ship it overseas, please think it twice and order a regular G1 instead
and for being a developer you have to pay $25 on front
The shipping costs are cheaper than they were in the beginning (at about 45$ now and they were 180$). Thanks to the weak dollar rate the dev phone is cheaper than any G1 here which you can only get with a contract anyway for about twice the price. An unlocked G1 from suspicious third party sellers costs about as much as the dev phone even with the added shipping fees and 100% guaranteed tax and transfer additions from UPS at the customs office.
That's my first post so hallo everybody!
I bought my dev phone being in Poland. I found one guy who fortunately was in US that time and he brought me my beauty I had to register in Android Market, pay 25$ plus phone and transport costs, so in total it was 500$ I think its not so bad considering that it was Christmas time.

Walmart to sell Nexus One?

I can't really say how i feel about this if it's true.. especially if the rumored pricing is true..
http://www.androidcentral.com/wal-mart-sell-nexus-one-soon
what was the rumored price?
$99 is the rumored price.. not sure where that number came from though.
And no T-mobile on that list of carriers?
I know for sure Walmart ONLY sells locked and subsidized devices, so this will be bundled with T-mobile or - most likely - Verizon. If Google continues its current model, you will probably just sign up with service and need to go online to order the phone. They may have a display model, but I bet they will not actual "sell" the device. Right now their mobile center is more like those kiosk booths at the mall.

in stores walmart only sells locked phones but on their website they have sold unlocked phones in the past and i believe they still do, though i have not checked since the g1 came out.
My wife washed her phone with her pants over the holiday, and I went all over to find a replacement. Not wanting to extend my contract (since I want to get rid of it after its over), I had no choice but to look for an unlock or unsubsidized phone. At least during the holidays in store and online I could find no option with out service and seemed to list the same stock.
Of course, retailers can pull those things during the heavy shopping seasons too.
I sort of doubt Google would change their strategy. If T-mobile can't get Nexus Ones; not sure why Wal-mart. I know Wal-mart is a major chain, but normally doing business with Wal-mart is a major pain.
I hope this is a load of Bravo Sierra!
I just purchased my N1 last nite...

If you have been on your service for a while then the telco will give you the unlock codes, I unlocked several blackberries with t-mo customer service and my girl unlocked her storm through verizon.
I think you just have to be a customer for more that 6 months or something. Just tell them your going out of country.
EDIT:
I just noticed in the actual ad a typo FAIL that says:
Expandable microSD (up to 32MB)

It now "appears" that the Walmart Nexus add was a mistake http://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-says-it-has-no-plans-to-carry-the-nexus-one-2010-1
From Mashable.com
Update: Walmart says the phone erroneously appeared on the site by mistake. Their statement: “Due to a technical error, this item erroneously was displayed on our site. We’re working with our partner Let’s Talk to have it removed as quickly as possible. We have no plans to carry Nexus One in Walmart stores or online at Walmart.com at this time.”
No comment I guess?
EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed this has been posted.
If they claim they aren't selling it in stores or through that site... then wtf is it even doing on that "erroneous" page? Seems like a very difficult error to make.
I knew it wasnt fesible, Att, Sprint and Verizon without Tmobile? Hard to believe.
Ok, end of story.

How can I not get screwed when buying online?

I was going to wait for the play store to restock, but i'm tired of waiting and my G2x is just p*ssing me off too much lately. So, i'm going out onto the interwebs and looking. I've bought many things from sellers online before and am always very smart about it, but i've never had to buy a phone before. So:
A.) How can I know if the IMEI is still good or not?
B.) How does the warranty transfer work? Even though i've bought many electronics online, none of them had any warranties.
I'm hoping to score a 16GB N4 for $425 (I'm sorry, but any more than that is a HUGE ripoff...the phone is only 350 and taxes and shipping only add 35...so even 425 is too much, but i've given up trying to haggle for 400, lol). I just need to know how to not screw myself over when buying from people over the net (even though I am urging local people only at the moment since I do actually have a receipt book that I like to have signed during a sale, lol). You may call it paranoia, I call it covering my ass
Thanks for any help!

My opinion is if you don't get it through the play store or a mobile carrier there is always a chance you can get screwed. I would wait for inventory with Google personally.

Buy locally from someone selling (Craigslist, etc) and have a laptop with USB cable and ADB/fastboot all setup and ready to go. Then test the phone in person BEFORE handing over any money.

Doesn't mean it's not stolen.. Craigslist is a mecca for stolen property. At least on Ebay you have some buyer protection, same as Amazon.. They hold the sellers funds and if there is anything wrong with the product odds are you will get your money back without much hassle. I've been selling on Amazon and Ebay for years and the buyers get a lot more protection than the sellers.
The warranty from Google doesn't transfer, only the original buyer can RMA a phone through Google. Your only option is to use the 1 year factory warranty from LG which means you ship it to them for all repairs and they do not give out replacements.

Opinions needed

I bought my Note pro 12.2 five months ago on the DPP and i hardly ever use it, so i think i will be selling it for the pay off amount plus shipping which will be around $525 total what do you think is the best way to sell it.
I am going to pay it off with the sale money and get it off my account.
This is a Verizon LTE device

Swappa.com I have sold 3 devices and bought 1. Pretty slick site, and xda approved!
Swappa will require the device to be paid off and ready for activation (i.e. clean ESN) before listing. Which you really should do before selling it anywhere. Or at the very least, make sure you note what your plan is, as the buyer won't be able to activate the tablet until you pay it off and remove it from your account. Verizon is rather particular about that.
If that's the case, you may want to coordinate something locally through Craiglist and meet a Verizon store, maybe?
Assuming you can't pay it off first...
Either way, good luck.
Thanks i was thinking local also.

How safe is buying used Moto X Pure?

I have accounts on Verizon and T-Mobile and generally buy phones used. With Verizon-branded phones this is quite safe-- meet the person at Verizon store, have the phone added to my account, and no worries about it subsequently being reported lost or stolen or otherwise blocked/blacklisted. With T-Mobile, completely unsafe. No matter what they tell you at the store about the phone, it can subsequently be blocked or blacklisted for a variety of reasons.
If I buy a Moto X Pure and add it to my Verizon account, am I safe? Or could it still be blacklisted by, say, an insurance claim?
Buy online through swappa and pay with PayPal. PayPal gives you 180 days (6 months) to file a claim, which you can use should the phone not work or stop working.
Not a bad idea but I'm looking locally at $375 for mint 32GB which is a fair amount better than Swappa although with whatever level of risk (which is what I'm trying to figure).
I would say it's pretty safe. Consider that the Pure is only available direct and off-contract, which means it is fully paid for at the time of purchase. That means it can't/won't be blocked due to non-payment in most cases. It's possible that Best Buy may have their own financing, but I doubt they would be able to block an IMEI like carriers can.
I purchased a used one on eBay, and used a $100 discount code I got from selling my old phone. Net was $210 for the 16GB version. Woot! Just got delivered today.
That's kind of what I was thinking about the non-payment issue. I guess the main possible issue is having it reported lost or stolen for insurance fraud purposes.
That sounds like a good price on eBay. The one I'm looking at locally is 32GB bamboo back for $350, vs $310 pre-discount for your 16GB.
Amazon has the 32 gb black or white version for $382 in the warehouse deals listed as minor scratches or they have the 16gb for $339.. These prices include prime shipping and mfg warranty. At that price it's a no brainer. They also have white with bamboo back for $407
Good luck

I got 16GB for $319.99 (plus tax ) and only had 1 minor mark on side, also the bottom speaker grill is slightly loose otherwise nothing wrong. Still had warranty but I unlocked and might just save the $50 plus $39-49 deductible towards another Moto X if need to due to all the horror stories of Moto Support, hell they can't even be consistent if unlocking voids hardware warranty.
I have a 32gb on my wish list on amazon and I just can't decide if upgrading from my nexus 6 is a big enough upgrade.. Ugh.. My wife thinks I'm crazy with phones as it is. Lol

Isn't that just a normal wife thing?
Buying a used Moto X Pure is just as un/safe as buying any electronic device (costing several $100's) from someone you met on the internet. Use the common sense and buying rules that you'd use for any transaction of this type.
As for blacklisting... carriers won't blacklist a carrier-free phone like the Moto X Pure. They do that for their own phones, locked to their carrier, bought under subsidy. And if that subsidy hasn't been completely paid off, then then the carrier still has partial-ownership of that device. But for BYOD, they won't care.
Part A is good common sense advice. I've spent many many thousands of dollars on electronics from people I just met on the internet, and predating that, from a classified ad. Most were good purchases, a few not. C'est la vie!
Part B I would like to believe, and indeed may act on the assumption it is correct, but nonpayment is only one reason for a phone to be blacklisted. Reported lost/stolen is another. With the Moto X Pure there is no carrier to report it to, but there could be an insurance carrier, and I suspect the result would be the same.
