Nvidia shield and kodi audio sync issues - Shield Android TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Running with the shield pro everything was fine but I was starting to find audio going ouit of sync these past couple of days, I cleared the cache (65 mb) ,I stopped and restarted, uninstalled and reinstalled, same issues, applies both to x264 and x265 encodes, anyone got any ideas why? Or solutions?

You have a configuration under HDMI settings, to synchronize the sound with the image. Try change that definition.
Hope it help.

Kodi has a couple of sync options. Maybe try there first. I had my audio synced, but I was getting video stutter. My experience was an Firmware 1.3 back in June/July though, so I don't know if it's changed. I'm now on Full android, and it's working perfectly, so I can say it's either a Kodi setting, or something wrong with the OS from Nvidia. This hardware is beastly.

I'm experiencing the same issues even with the new 2016 shield. Sorry to revive this but anyone have any clue?

Ringtones/Alerts no longer work, nor does Media player?!

I was woken up by G-Alarm this morning, which is good.... but it came up with an error, then so did G-Profile.
So i've reinstalled both and now i can't get any sound at all, plus Media player won't load.
If I play a video through the HTC player, it works fine and I get audio.
Anyone know what might be causing this?
I've only just wiped and installed a new ROM, so i'd rather not have to hard reset again!
Thanks!

Shield TV 2017 reboots while watching a movie

Hi there,
my new shield 2017 rebooted while watching a movie with Kodi 17 RC3. So first I figured it might be an issue with Kodi since version 17 is not final yet but then it also rebooted while streaming Amazon video. It's really strange sometimes its working fine for 1 to 2 hours and suddenly it reboots, sometimes it reboots after a few minutes.
Any ideas what might cause the reboot? Can this be fixed or should I return it and get a new one?

Have you installed an FTP server / SSL server app on the Shield?
I've been having similar problems, and I already tried disabling the location services, as others have written about on the official Shield forums, but it did not solve it. So I'm trying to find a pattern in when it crashes, and right now it looks like my problem occurs when I have an FTP server / SSL server app running actively and listening on the Shield.

I don't have a FTP or SSL server app installed, I only installed Kodi, Grand Theft Auto San Andreas and ES File Explorer.

I have those apps and more installed and have no issues.
I don't have ftp or ssl either.
I have location turned on.
Where are your apps installed?
I have sandiskb128g fit drive as storage instead of internal.

I have the exact same issue, i'm also using the 2017 shield and it thought it was the sleep settings at first but I made it to sleep in 12 hours and it still happened. Shield rebooted midway while watching kodi.
My 2017 keeps rebooting too and not just with Kodi; Amazon prime rebooted a few times and also had sound sync issues that couldn't be corrected. It's a shame as the picture quality is hugely improved with this device. I'm hoping it's a bad batch and a replacement will resolve the issues.
My 2015 model just did this as well... Was watching a YouTube video and it just turned off completely for no reason, it didn't even reboot on it's own
No problems here with the 2015 model but it could be because I'm running full nougat android.
Same issue here running Shield 2017. Watching movie in KODI 17. This has happened several times today and not only in KODI, in Plex and Twitch app as well.
same prob here, random reboots , factory reset twice , disabled location and uninstalled all sideloaded apps but keeps happening, ive mailed nvidia for a fix but think i might just get a refund as its p#ssing me off now
It's a know problem

Hi, have you side loaded apps? Be carefull on that, the other day i installed a cleaner app and my shield misbehaved. Thankfully i didnt have many apps installed so i just started to undo things.
Also if you have latest ES File Explorer uninstall it and use an older version like v3.2.5.5 from apkmirror.com

so i have soft-reboots as well while gaming through geforce now on my shield tv 2017.
but i know quite exactly what is causing them: running a vpn with openvpn for android. my isp has like 90% of nvidia servers on their blacklist as it seems...
only way to play is through a vpn. works fine except the random soft-reboots. every 30mins, sometimes only every 2 hours, really random.

LG V20 plays sound but shows no videos?

For the past couple of days now, whenever I try to play a video, I hear the audio fine, but don't see any video, just a black screen. At first I thought it was trouble with my YouTube app since that's basically where I only watch videos and read on several forums that the issue was caused by having the official twitter app (which is weird since I don't have twitter). I also tried restarting my phone, uninstalling/reinstalling youtube, installing older versions of youtube, all of which never worked.
So I decided to swallow my pride and just download a fake youtube alternative. To my surprise, the videos still show a black screen and only play audio. This had me thinking, so I tried to play a video in my camera roll I downloaded... Same problem, however, if I play a video I recorded myself on the phone it works... The even weirer part is though, that if I play a video through youtube via the Chrome browser it works (despite it looking like 140p and horrible audio) but it works! I've also tried smart cleaning, deleting cache and data but to no avail.
Is there a problem with my phones flash player, or whatever extension it uses? I know Chrome uses its own built in player which could explain why it sorks in Chrome but not anywhere else.
This all seemed to happen randomly, I didnt do anything. Games and other media including music still seem to work fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Also I am rooted on 12A and have been for the past 6 months.
I'm also having the same issue with my vs995 running on rooted 12A

Freezing Issue with Kodi 24/7 streams

Anyone else having issues with 24/7 streams in Kodi where it goes to start the next episode and the video freezes but the audio still continues?
I've tried resetting Kodi, turning off hw acceleration, everything I could possibly think of with no luck
Any suggestions/fixes?
I just bought this shield
Yup - exact same problem. But alas, no solution yet either. MiBox on Marshmallow works fine so not sure if this is an Oreo issue. Any and all help from the community is greatly appreciated!

Amazon Prime Video issue

Wondering if anyone is having the same problem I am with the OnePlus 6T or has suggestions to fix it. When I try to play videos I downloaded through Amazon Prime for offline viewing, the sound only comes through in extremely short stutters or not at all. If I stream it works as expected. Already reinstalled Prime Video, tried all the download quality options, and no change. Downloaded and streaming video from Netflix works fine. Guessing codec issues or sound settings but haven't found a solution thus far.
Anyone else run into this?
Did you root O6t ?
I saw on one of the post that, there's some issue with Amazon & netflix videos after root.

Are you on the T-Mobile version? The latest OS update pushed out a few days ago broke Play Store certification for many people. That can cause issues with apps that use DRM, like Netflix and I guess maybe Amazon Prime Video. If this is the case, clearing data/storage on the Play Store fixes it. Source.
ETA: Just noticed the timestamp on the OP, doh. Oh well, leaving my post up in case anyone else having this problem more recently comes here looking for answers.
