has anyone faced the phone switching off even when it's screen locked? This happened a few times to me.
1st scenario is when my phone is in a waist pouch which is a little tight for this model. when i take it out of the pouch, i either find it off or waiting at the sim unlock screen. this is caused by pressing the power button accidentally.
2nd scenario is after charging over night, i wake up to find the phone asking me to key in sim unlock pin (it will not be completely off because whenever charger is plugged in, it will power up). The phone was screen locked before i charge it and i did not touch the power button by accident unlike scenario 1.
which ever the scenario, by right the power off button shouldn't work whilst in screen lock right?
The same scenarios happend to me, sometimes more than once a day. Very annoying.
I too have this issue, especially the overnight charging one, which is annoying because then the alarm fails to go off!!! After convincing 2 other people to get the Trophy 7 they also experience this.
I called HTC support in the UK yesterday and all they could suggest to me was that I reset the phone settings, which I've done, and of course ended up needing to put all my settings back in which is extremely frustrating when I expect that it won't fix anything.
I really would recommend calling HTC support in your country and logging a call, because the guy told me that I was the first to report it.
You can get the phone numbers from the htc website, which i cannot post the URL to since I'm a new user, but I'm sure you can find it. Go to "Support" -> "Customer Service" -> "Support by hotline"
Of course, you could not call them to report the issue, but then they'll think that I'm the only user in the world with the problem and not actually resolve it!!! It's going to take you about 10mins and they'll keep talking to you about windows mobile 6.5, instead of windows phone, but the more calls logged = greater chance of resolution.
I've had the turning of when it's in my pocket, but i've never had it turn of overnight when charging.
at least not that i've noticed
Whilst experimenting with android on my touch pro from the very beginning when you couldn't enter a sim code, i've removed it and i'm to lazy to set a new one
All the problems (screen freeze of crazy dancing icons of phone shutting down) solved after FLASHING newest WWE ROM from this forum. Maybe helps, but U have to decide and do it yourself or not.
This has happend MANY times on my trophy aswell.. I ended up turning off the sim lock code (That way the phone starts up again after boot and your alarms etc works)
Yup, I've had the "pocket" thing also happen to me, more than once in the same day... quite frustating.
Qtek S200 (HTC Prophet) After ROM update, its now shutting down whilst in sleep mode
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but recently I upgraded my s200's ROM using the CD utility that came with it. Its now running Build 14928.2.2.0 of WM5.
Before the ROM update it has never done it once.
Some people said they got the problem when it went into lock screen, my lock screen is fine. It will only do it when the phone is in sleep mode, if i disable the "power off" timout setting then its absolutly fine aslong as i dont press the power button.
Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem?
Somebody did mention about flashing the rom from one of OS's on this site, but all the ones I have found contain dead rapidshare links.
Any help appreciated
Thanks
My solution on Trophy is simple, using a Casemate case on my phone. It makes the off button so stiff, that it's hard to shut off.
I guess I never realized why it was such a pain in the case to shut off... this MUST be the reason. Also, since I now have two Trophy's (one for developing roms), this other one I just bought has been through hell, and it's difficult to half press the camera button to focus. The Casemate case I have on my good Trophy makes it far harder to press the camera button, but my year old Trophy that I've always had doesn't suffer from any problems with its camera button.
This is the newer version of the Casemate case I was using on my HTC Trophy. I don't know if this will help you with your older phone, but maybe Casemate makes a case for it. Since it's an older phone, it will be difficult.
Hello all. First let me state that I rather not make a thread to ask help on a problem that seems to have happened to a few owners, but my knowledge as to how I could resolve the issue is severely lacking..
At some point today my phone was ringing but the screen would not show. I thought about taking the battery out and turning it back on but there would be no HTC, Bootanimation, anything. It was Just a black-lit screen which responds due to tactile feedback and the four touchkeys light up as usual. At first there was an odd sound that would play after a few minutes so I decided to charge it but again there was nothing. Even tried to access bootloader with -Vol and Power still no screen.
I asked a friend of mine to call my phone to see if it would ring but they said it instantly goes to voicemail as if my phone was off. Note that I WAS SURE IT WAS ON.
Adb seems to work with it as it seems whatever I need to do I have to do it through there.
G2 rooted with gfree method
CM7.1 RC1
Clockwork Recovery
Again i am sorry if I bothered those with posting something others would think is "too common of a problem" as I have no experience in fixing this issue. Plus I would like to try any option available as I would not like to try and have my phone replaced (because of the risk of discovering root and obtaining a G2 with stock gingerbread which is currently not rootable)
Please help..
It sounds like you're suffering from some sort of hardware failure. You need to send your phone in for repair/replacement.

A. They don't care if its rooted.
B. You can root stock Gingerbread.
Same issue here...
I'm facing the same issue, when i try to unlock the phone (power button or trackpad) the screen lights but stays black, and the buttons are also backlit. I have to lock again with power button and unlock again to get to the actual screen.
It first happened a few days ago, and since i didn't reboot/restart in weeks i tried to reboot but the same issue comes back.
then i shut it down, pulled the battery and then back, and restarted: the phone goes directly to that black backlit screen, i tried several times and tried recovery with no luck, so i thought my phone was messed up although i did have some haptic feedback, well in fact the phone was actually booting, but just not showing anything else than the backlit screen; i waited a minute or so to the booting completes (still shows nothing), then i lock/unlock the screen again and there it is, asking for the pin code.
I tried to go to the recovery again to try to wipe dalvik-cache, i know for sure it goes to recovery, but with a totally black screen, not even backlit this time; the trackpad is too sensitive in the recovery to just blindly navigate in the menu, so it is not useable at all.
Then i had the idea to go to Rom Manager, i reflashed the rom from my sd-card, and enabling wipe dalvik-cache, which worked (all through a black screen). After a few minutes i "felt" it rebooting (vibrating) but still back to that black backlit screen, and i locked/unlocked it again and back it was asking pin code...
I also tried to roll back recovery to 3.0.2.4, since i remember i updated it a few weeks ago, but still the same issue.
I don't know what else to do without accessing the recovery, i wanted to try another kernel, or remove the trackpad wake... is there a way to do it via a script? I guess it's what Rom manager does...
Next step will be a total wipe, but i need to make some room on my sdcard for backup purposes first...
If anyone has an idea to sort this out, i'm highly interested...
I'll try to get a logcat, maybe could give a hint
Edit: Virtuous sense 2.0.0 (used it with no issue since it came out, could it be a hw issue?)
Edit2 : attached logcat
Is the pin screen differant than the usual one ie white number keys? If it is that's the sim lock screen you need to call the carrier to get the code or find out the default. Or just get a new sim lol
nah it's the 4 digit pin code, i didn't lose it btw, it's still working and i can use the phone, but i have a black backlit screen whenever i want to wake the phone, and thus when i receive a phone call, i don't know who it is and i blindly press/swipe the screen to answer, because if i want to use the same trick of locking /unlocking, it doesnt work as the lock button is also used to reject a call...
Maybe rip and reinstall the phone app?

I have the same exact problem as this EXCEPT, it's intermittent. Sometimes when I wake the phone I get an all black but backlight screen, and other times it's fine. I'm on CM7.1.
But a superwipe and reflash will probably fix it. Also don't restore system data on TB
I know i still can use wipe data + cache + dalvik through rom manager, and i always used to superwipe before switching roms, but how can i do that now when the recovery is all blacked out?
can anyone guide me to a script or something i could do while the phone is active, to tell him to reboot to recovery and flash that superwipe?
anyway i'll try the regular wipe and keep the thread updated

On my side if i leave the phone locked more than 30 seconds, it happens 100% of the time; also I noticed that now the backlight blinks 2 or 3 times (1 second blinking) when locked, first a few minutes after locking, and then randomly, about 3 or 4 times per hour; I guess it's getting worse;
I've read on another thread that it could be video cable getting loose, but since mine is still under guarantee, i won't open it right now just to check, if i can't fix by wiping / superwiping (when i know how to), i'll use that guarantee, which is one month left (lucky me)
EDIT: one other thing that makes me think it's no hardware, when the black screen appears because of a phone call or a message, the ringtone and notification sound are both half as loud as they should be, this is all really strange
after backing up my data, i reflashed the rom via Rom Manager, and I wiped data and cache (which equals to factory reset) this time: the first screen that should show the pin code numpad was already a black (backlit) screen!!
Also, thinking about it, i realised that the "flash rom from sdcard" menu in Rom Manager is in fact "Flash ZIP from sdcard": the zip doesn't have to be a ROM!!
So I tried flashing a new kernel this way, also some framework modifications (extended settings, removed TP wake, etc...) they all install Ok, but still this black screen...
Also I was about to flash SuperWipeG2.zip this way, but if it doesn't fix my problem, I will be stuck with a blacked out recovery, as SuperWipe wipes everything including /system; so if anyone has an idea to tell Rom Manager to flash two zips (Superwipe then Rom) i'll be willing to try, or a script to do that;
Maybe i'll have a look of the scripts in Superwipe and in the rom, and put both zips together... don't know if it's possible?
Maybe I'll try the Superwipe alone if I can get a spare phone, just in case...
Other thing:I used the phone's gps for more than 5 hours with the screen lit, and it never flickered even once; so it's hard to believe it's a screen connection issue...
Just to keep this updated, everything i did, including superwipe didn't change this issue, so i sent it back to the technical support (under guarantee) and I got it back today; the report that came with it says the screen has been replaced; so it was hardware finally...
Hi, i have same problem.. Black screen in recovery and during the boot. When the system boots, screen is OK. Sometimes i have also blackscreen when I want to use HW keyboard. I tried 4ext, reflash older versions of CW but still the same. I can see a screen through Android Screen Monitor and I can cotrol it. But phone is blak, only backlight. Can somebody say, how to solve this issue?
So, for other, if you cant see screen, you can use Android Screen Monitor for Windows and connect phone through USB and see a screen.

WAIT one minute... they don't care? where was I when this meeting took place?
I had this issue as well on a spare G2 I had.
The screen was just black but you could tell it was lit, hardware keys were lit as well.
The phone was actually my brothers and it rooted w/ CM7.
I ended up selling the phone as is on Ebay but after some research it was a failure in the hardware for the screen and I found extensive instructions on how to replace it that I didn't wish to do.
I never attempted to get it replaced and kind of wish I did now if they don't care about the device being rooted.
I purchased my G2 before he had his, and it's never had the issue so not sure what to think of it.

Thinking to buy this, it would be great if anyone could confirm that it would help "my condition" ?
THanks in advance!
In terms of cables, yes the flex cables are what you want.

I really like my LG E900 phone. I bought it for AT&T in the USA unlocked on Amazon. Installed Mango recently with all the firmware upodates and until today been having a lot of fun with my phone!
All of a sudden today, the touch screen seems un-responsive. The touch screen works intermitently. It starts to work then stops again. I have tried resetting the phone (have to pull battery). I wasn't doing anything when I this happended. I recently installed Tango and Livestrong mobile app, otherwise phone was flawless.
1. Is my touch screen broken?
2. Does anyone have a clue. I thought maybe the phone is running apps in backround but I can't seem to find the problem. The battery seems to drain also.
3. The phone does become operation for minutes at a time but then goes bad.
I wanted to add that the screen is also very slow at first then starts to respond normally. Almost seems to something happening in the backround. As of now, the screen is still not responding. If I continue to play with the screen, sometimes the screen starts to respond, but slowly.
thanks for help!!
In your position, I would try to:
1. Use the guaranty (if it's still active) and take it to a local service
2. Flash a different rom/firmware with all the latest updates inside and see what happens.
3. Buy a new e900...they cost less than ever nowadays...(almost 180€-190€ without a contract...)
You have got to be kidding me, the exact same thing is happening to me, and for 2 days now. I'm unbranded (I believe) on Vodafone Spain. The entire phone has become unresponsive. Drops nearly every call, has rebooted about 50 times in the last 24h.
fUnny thing is, it doesn't ever reboot when I'm actively using it, just during lock screen.
cOuld you further develop your symptoms just in case we have the same issue? Thnx

More Detail about the LG E900 WP7 Lock Screen issue
OK. SO here are the symptoms-
- Whenever I enter the lock screen, the touch is screen does not respond. TO be clear the touch screen senses I am touching the screen but the lock screen doesn't move when swipe.
Ater some research you can find the SAME EXACT error on HTC Surrround Samsung Focus. here's the youtube video. exactly as it appears except time to unlock takes about 2:30 (2 minutes 30 seconds) on my LG
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3QABdcTINc
So here is what happens and what I do
1. Again entering the lock screen, and attempting to unlock the touch doesn't reposnd to any swipes.
2. You continue to swipe and occasionaly hit the physical buttons. This keeps the lock screen on. You have to keep swiping for about 2:30. After 2:30, the touch screen just seems to respond.
3. After the touch screen responds. Nothing out of the ordinary. When I tried using IE, it seemed that IE didn't work as well. Pinch to zoom, swipes not as good. Also portions of the screen are not as responsive.
So maybe start looking for a replacement.
I've tried
- restoring previous OS and files. No change.
- Hard and factory reset. No change.
- changing the brightness setting (AUTO, low) no change
The only thing that I haven't done is upgrade/downgrade the firmware. I think that may help but not clear on what to do.
Are you using the correct charger?
I have an HP Touchpad that has a high output microUSB charger for rapid charging of the Touchpad's battery. Although it hasn't (yet?) given my e900h any troubles, I did read at least one report of a guy's Samsung phone reacting poorly with symptoms similar to yours after using the Touchpad's higher output charger.
I am using a third party USB charger. Not a high power one, but an inexpensive one from monoprice. Ok, I will try.

Some people have reported errors and crazy system behavior when using third party chargers...
Still no luck. Using stock charger now. Will wait to see if any improvements. Thanks everyone.

I was one of them. This behaviour would occur with the charger connected.
I get the feeling the problem the OP and I are facing is also related to chargers, but no longer when they are connected. Charging makes no difference for me, the phone is still reacting very strange.
More Info on failiong touch screen
So
Here are more precise deets
- Whenever the backlight is turned off, the touch screen becomes non-responsive
- The touch screen notices touch but not swiping.
- in order to get the touch screen to respond you must continue touch the screen for 00:02:30 (2 minutes, 3 sec).
- the touch screen will usuallly start to respond to swipes but only a single axis (e.g. vertical or horizontal)
- after 2:30 the touch screen responds like everything is ok.
- the goal is to make sure the screen backlight stays on until the for 2:30. In some lock screen cases, you can issue a voice command, camera etc which effectly keeps the phone one (i.e backlight on) for longer without having to continuously touch.
- issues came after tangoi install and livestrong install.
- wonder if tango did something to lock screen
- also tried changing lock screen wallpaper - no changes
- when installing microsoft insider app, I tried using the wallpapers, but the apps crashes. Changing wall paper using default app works
- using default charger no changes
- received the latest update (fixed voicemail and outlook issues) - no change
I haven't been able to retore/flash NODO. That is probably what I need to do.
same problem here, new phone, original recharger and touchscreen of my optimus goes sometimes frenzy...the frequency of strange behavior raises when I fully recharge battery
i found a video on youtube, but yet i cannot send urls, because i'm new user here, u can find it if u search "problema telefono"
any1 have some solution, pls? or did u try to send the phone back to LG service?
Dear all,
I've just received my N4 for a couple of hours. It's a brandnew one from U.S market.
Right after unboxing, I switched it on and signed in my Google account. Everything run just fine for a couple of minutes when i swipe through those introduction steps from a Brandnew Vanilla Android. After that, it went wild.
When i turned the screen on the 2nd time of its life time, the Lockscreen rotated automatically and then just hang there. The whole device freezed right after the screen was turned on THE 2ND TIME!. It forced me to press and hold Power button to restart the device, but that problem continues to occur on every working sessions.
Right now i have to completely turn it off and don't know how to fix yet
A just-unboxed-device with a fault like this? Life's Sucking, not Good LG!
What can i do now? Please give me some advices, i'm very frustrating right now.
Thanks in advance.
UPDATE: Now after trying to unlock bootloader, root, flash custom ROM (xenonHD), even tried to disable all lockscreen types (currently set to None), it appears that the whole device will freeze after exactly the 2nd time of screen-on! How on earth does this s**t occur????
Anyone? Please help

Problem is the device now is in Vietnam, and it'll take much time to deliver it back to Google.
Wish someone would have a solution...
Try to get into safe mode and disable screen rotation:
Using LG Nexus 4 LG E960 Safe Mode
To recover your phone when malfunctioning.
1. Turn off your phone and reboot. When you see the booting animation press and hold the Volume Down Key . Your main screen will then be displayed with the words "Safe mode" in lower left corner.
2. From the Home screen, tap the Menu Key and tap Settings > search for disable screen rotation

Thank you for being so kind. I've just tried and no luck.
By somehow, if it manages to turn all the lockscreen and homescreen to landscape, it will be fine. But i know the N4 cannot rotate homescreen, so this is definitely WEIRD! I feel that the "spirit" of a tablet's OS is running inside my phone, and it decides not to run at all LOL
seems that RMA's the only choice....
Hi, I am using the LG V20 H900ds model number. This morning whilst using my phone in multi window mode, everything went wrong. My phone started hanging horribly followed by my display slowly turning black, pressing the power button would wake the display but it would start turning black again. The power off and restart buttons wouldn't respond. So I decided to take out the battery. After that, my phone would turn on but the display wouldn't. Can't access recovery but when plugged in, my laptop does detect the phone. There was no water damage neither did I drop it. Phone is just a few weeks old.
In my opinion the display is faulty but I would like to know if anyone here has a similar experience. And if there is any other solution rather than taking it to a technician. I live in Bangladesh where the LG V20 wasn't officially introduced and it would cost me a fortune to fix it.
Any advice or opinions would be helpful, thanks.
Did you fix it? I have the same problem.
