[Q] phone shutting down whilst screen lock - Trophy General

has anyone faced the phone switching off even when it's screen locked? This happened a few times to me.
1st scenario is when my phone is in a waist pouch which is a little tight for this model. when i take it out of the pouch, i either find it off or waiting at the sim unlock screen. this is caused by pressing the power button accidentally.
2nd scenario is after charging over night, i wake up to find the phone asking me to key in sim unlock pin (it will not be completely off because whenever charger is plugged in, it will power up). The phone was screen locked before i charge it and i did not touch the power button by accident unlike scenario 1.
which ever the scenario, by right the power off button shouldn't work whilst in screen lock right?

The same scenarios happend to me, sometimes more than once a day. Very annoying.

I too have this issue, especially the overnight charging one, which is annoying because then the alarm fails to go off!!! After convincing 2 other people to get the Trophy 7 they also experience this.
I called HTC support in the UK yesterday and all they could suggest to me was that I reset the phone settings, which I've done, and of course ended up needing to put all my settings back in which is extremely frustrating when I expect that it won't fix anything.
I really would recommend calling HTC support in your country and logging a call, because the guy told me that I was the first to report it.
You can get the phone numbers from the htc website, which i cannot post the URL to since I'm a new user, but I'm sure you can find it. Go to "Support" -> "Customer Service" -> "Support by hotline"
Of course, you could not call them to report the issue, but then they'll think that I'm the only user in the world with the problem and not actually resolve it!!! It's going to take you about 10mins and they'll keep talking to you about windows mobile 6.5, instead of windows phone, but the more calls logged = greater chance of resolution.

I've had the turning of when it's in my pocket, but i've never had it turn of overnight when charging.
at least not that i've noticed
Whilst experimenting with android on my touch pro from the very beginning when you couldn't enter a sim code, i've removed it and i'm to lazy to set a new one

All the problems (screen freeze of crazy dancing icons of phone shutting down) solved after FLASHING newest WWE ROM from this forum. Maybe helps, but U have to decide and do it yourself or not.

This has happend MANY times on my trophy aswell.. I ended up turning off the sim lock code (That way the phone starts up again after boot and your alarms etc works)

Yup, I've had the "pocket" thing also happen to me, more than once in the same day... quite frustating.

Qtek S200 (HTC Prophet) After ROM update, its now shutting down whilst in sleep mode
Sorry to dig up an old thread, but recently I upgraded my s200's ROM using the CD utility that came with it. Its now running Build 14928.2.2.0 of WM5.
Before the ROM update it has never done it once.
Some people said they got the problem when it went into lock screen, my lock screen is fine. It will only do it when the phone is in sleep mode, if i disable the "power off" timout setting then its absolutly fine aslong as i dont press the power button.
Did anyone ever find a solution to this problem?
Somebody did mention about flashing the rom from one of OS's on this site, but all the ones I have found contain dead rapidshare links.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

My solution on Trophy is simple, using a Casemate case on my phone. It makes the off button so stiff, that it's hard to shut off.
I guess I never realized why it was such a pain in the case to shut off... this MUST be the reason. Also, since I now have two Trophy's (one for developing roms), this other one I just bought has been through hell, and it's difficult to half press the camera button to focus. The Casemate case I have on my good Trophy makes it far harder to press the camera button, but my year old Trophy that I've always had doesn't suffer from any problems with its camera button.
This is the newer version of the Casemate case I was using on my HTC Trophy. I don't know if this will help you with your older phone, but maybe Casemate makes a case for it. Since it's an older phone, it will be difficult.

Strangest touch screen loss problem! + SOD / QUICK WAKE UP TEST WITH YES/SEND KEY.

17/9/2010 EDIT: With a lot of feedback from this thread and other threads, it has come out that, waking up the phone with the YES/CALL/SEND green button is BETTER than waking up with the NO/END/POWER red button for SOD reasons.

Hello guys,
You probably know I am actively in the Android HD2 porting community.
I am having the strangest touch screen problem. I am really experienced into winmo and android stuff. Please read carefully. There is a surprise at the end.
BOTH under Android AND Winmo my touchscreen works just fine after bootup.
It first started like this:
At first my touchscreen stopped responding when I hold no button to make a reboot/power off. I thought it was from the usual Android touch screen freeze related to g sensor. Then I realized that it was the same in Winmo! Holding no button ALSO caused touch screen to die even under winmo.
Then it started loosing touch after sleeping. My touch is ALWAYS working when I boot winmo OR android and works for hours if not put to sleep. But it stops working after putting it to sleep.
Frustrated,
I restored with spb backup. Didn't work.
I reflashed my winmo rom. Didn't work.
I made a hard reset. Didn't work.
I removed sd card. Didn't work.
I removed sim card. Didn't work.
I changed the date. Didn't work. (this was a strange fix for some blackberries)
I flashed original 1.66 Turkish rom, 2.07 original old radio, even original 1.42 SPL which makes this hd2 fully stock the day I bought it. Even made another hard reset. Still didn't work!
By this time it's obvious this is a hardware problem and needs warranty.
OK
THEN I FOUND THE STRANGEST THING:
If I wake up the phone with ANY hard button other than the NO/HANGUP button touch screen WORKS!!! (Yes/Send button under Android)
BELIEVE ME, I HAVE TRIED FLASHING REFLASHING RESETTING AND TESTED 100 TIMES and YES it is ALWAYS the same. This is not a random thing.
If I wake up my phone with No button under ANDROID OR WINMO, my touch doesn't work. But if I wake up with back button windows button home button yes button, the phone wakes up properly AND touch works. Android of course doesn't work with the original radio, so I wasn't launching Android with the last test.
HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE AT ALL?? It looks like hardware fault, but touch loss IS related to NO button!
I will send my phone to warranty anyway but it will happen after the holiday (not before mid september)
IF ANYONE have an issue like this, PLEASE post.
I just want to make sure this issue isn't related to Android porting. If it is, this might be an important info. Maybe it may help devs fixing the general touch screen and wake up problems. Also everybody TRY waking up Android with the yes/send button to see if it helps with your wake up or sod issues and provide feedback. Also it may help with the phone not responding after hangup in Android. There is something hardware going at the background with the no/hangup button. I know this issue is hardware fault but still may shed light to our problems with touch screen and wake up issues. Maybe there is something hardware or firmware inside the phone waking up the digitizer. I know that hangup/no/end button is internally different than the other buttons, something like it shares the power button function that is usually on the top of the device with other htc devices. (Mine is a european hd2 and the hangup button is not red) I also wasn't using an overclocking kernel.
Please think twice before posting, and don't post anything useless. I am absolutely no noob, you can search my previous 200+ posts. I wouldn't post anything unless I am definitely sure. And I have a feeling that this thread has the potential to help or make something come out. If it doesn't, no harm done.
since most of the time inwinmo or android the no or yes button pop up generally on the same side in both os's and , taking in consideraton it might be a hardware issue , i would say you issue might be a harsware issue undr the screen when you touch no...wild guess
I was the same problem.... but it is even worst for me now...
Before, at least work touch others buttons... now my touchscreen DON'T WORK. :-(
I suppose that it's a hardware problem :-(

BIt strange this one to be honest I think it may just be your device as there are now hundreds of users of android on the hd2 and this is extremely rare. Hopefully a dev will look into and find a possible solution but I doubt it. If I was you I would put it back to stock and send it off to HTC for a new one. Even if a dev manages to find the problem you will have a new or as new hd2
I have been trying and I must say that I sort of do share your experience. The most left button (referred to as yes) awakes the phone just right as where the most left (No) takes its time to start the phone. I haven't had any noticable touch issues that could be related to these hard buttons yet.. (I think)
But I do think you have a point.
Interesting, I had something similar. I was using elegancia rom v1 for the longest time, with all my android builds, no problems. Then I went to chunkydroid rom, and had a few issues, with multiple android installs (one of which was my original that was working before.)
Then I rebooted into chunkydroid, (windows), and had the same issue. It was strange. I tried a few other roms, same problem. Turned off the phone, next day, reflashed chunky again, and hyperdroid 1.1, no issues since. (Only difference, which I don't know if it's related, but again, might help, is that I was overclocking. I have since not let anything go above 998 in setcpu, and even removed all builds that were overclocking. I though it might have had something to do with it (and the phone wasn't warm at all.)
I have not been able to duplicate the problem since though (even with overclocking just to see). So I'm pretty stumped. I'm sure the devs will work it out.
I have taken to pressing the yes/send key to wake up my phone as it seems more consistent than pressing the end key. My theory is that multiple wake up/sleep messages are being sent on the end key and the system gets confused. Some sort of debounce might help.
Just my thoughts.
Running shui8 realstock rmnet with micyprima r9.
It seems waking up the phone with the Yes/Send button somehow seems better with current builds and kernels.
I am asking everybody reading this thread to try waking up their Android devices with the yes/send key and share their experience if it is making their Android wake up quicker with less SODs.
Note: I am still using yes key wake up as a workaround for my hardware touchscreen fault. Still absolutely works everytime. I found out that if I accidentally try to wake up with the no/hangup key I need to wait about 10-15 seconds before yes/send key does its magic again.
well, i tried there is absolutely no difference between any hard button. if i have sod, none of them solves... actually its not sod i think, when you try to put standby and wake up several times quickly, screen stops responding for a while. you need to wait at least 15 seconds between each standby and wake up. can i fix this? or this is the sod?
Waking up with the yes/send button would not make any difference if your phone can wake up good with the no/hangup button already. But we are trying to find out if yes/send button wakes up better in long term usage. (no/hangup button sometimes can't wake up and that is the sod refers to)
SOD happened to me few times too with the NO/Hangup button and if/when that happens, if you press NO/Hangup button for long(for the menu with the turn off the phone, reboot, plane mode,...etc options) screen comes back BUT sometimes it locks the screen brightness to lowest possible setting(with %0 actually it doesn't completely turns off as you know).
Other than that "bug" NO/Hangup button works fine for me but as the OP, YES button is more stable and no SODs happen with the YES button...
Btw there is no difference for me YES button vs NO/Hangup button by means of quickness... Both works the same speed unless of course there is no SOD with the NO/Hangup button...
Just wanted to share my experience...
This thread is awesome
Thanks for this thread. I have been trying to use any android build for at least a full day with no success. Ive used different winmo roms and radios such as chucky and miri roms. I still ran into sod's. After waking with the yes/button i have had no sod issues since then, Once again awesommmmmmmme thread.
After some time my digitizer died almost completely. (Issue became worse) It is currently being handled under warranty. (digitizer is replaced)
But at least with a lot of feedback from this thread and other threads, it has come out that, waking up the phone with the YES/CALL/SEND green button is BETTER than waking up with the NO/END/POWER red button for SOD reasons.
any solution to this issue yet because i just started having this exact same problem w/ my HD2 yesterday before that it was perfectly normal and all the suddon the Power/END/NO button wake up cause the screen to not respond to the touch at all however wake up w/ home, back, menu, call button the touch screen works is back to normal
still can't figure out if its a hardware or software problem cause i also tried flashing bunch of roms/radios/and android roms as well and even went back to stock rom in hope for a solution
waking with green is about 2s faster for me.
Same thing happens to me before 2 days.I tried many hard resets, roms, radios and my screen didnt work.I couldnt even login in wm.
My screen was completely dead. The last thing i did, before my screen goes unresponsive was to push no/hangup button in android to open it
At first also i thought it was a g-sensor issue, but then realise that it was much more than it.
Until the moment i read this thread
The way it worked for me
I open the device with no button of course, made a soft reset from red hole and i wait until the device goes to standy itself. Then i open it from send button and voila touch is back !!!!
Strange thing but it works.Thank you very much you are a genius
sure the touch comes back when it wakes up using all other buttons except the power/end button so why is that all the sudden the power/end button causes the screen to go unresponsive
like for say when i hold the power/end key to open the pHONES OPTIONS in windows or android once the PHONES OPTIONS shows up and i try to click on power off or reboot on the screen the touch doesn't respond so the only way to reset or power off the device completely is the either use the reset button in the back or pull the battery out
i'm going to be sending it under warrenty/insurance to t-mobile and hopefully get a replacement cause i'm so use to the power/end button to wake up my device...
Guys be extremely carefull when using hard buttons in android. Finally my problem with screen is not the end button but the back arrow button. This button is necessary for using android and i have pushed it many many times the last months as i am using android.Νοw every time i pushed it my touchscreen stops responding.Τhe last time i pushed it my screen stopped responding(i thought for ever) and didnt knew the exactly reason that this happens.Because i didnt want to send the device to htc (firstly i must send it to expansys in france and they will send it to htc) and take it back at christmas i decided to go to a local mobile service.I wasnot mind for warranty cause i wouldnt be able to live 4 weeks without hd2.I was ready to give 600euros to buy desire hd
Result from service
At firstly he said to me that hd2 have no touchscreen problem and it works ok
I paid 20euros for opening the device and took it back.At first 5 minutes my screen stopped responding again and didnt knew the reason. For my good luck i leave the device untouched 10 minutes and the screen come back again. Then i used it and the time i pushed the back button the screen stopped working, fortunatelly for little seconds. Now i know.My screen stop responding when i push back button. So i change the keylayout to my android build and now i push send key instead of back and volume up key for menu and volume down for power on-off and hd2 works perfect after 24 hours without touching the back button
Also in monday i will go to service again to fix the button problem
Same issue with me
Exactly same issue with me. I have been using Winmo and Android on and off in my HD2. couple of weeks back, touch didnt respond after waking up the device from standby by pushing endkey.
tried everything - flash/stock rom/removed SD card/ hard reset/clear storage/custom rom/ battery pull out etc...
touch worked suddenly and only when i slightly touch the end key instead of pushing it fully, the start menu opened..this happened for few days and when ever i push the end key...screen goes unresponsive. all other hardware buttons are working fine and if at all i push end key the issue starts.
unfortunately my friend pushed the end key once and the screen never responded after this....now am using my old p3450 htc touch...
i think if we change the AP BOARD (Flex ribbon-keyboard chip) everything will go back to normal coz its not the problem with digitizer or the lcd of the software for sure.
trying to order one in ebay, we can change this ourselves...no need to send it to service centers and waste money on it.
if any of you have done this already...let me know if it worked for you.
guys dont know if it is allready known but there is a app called sidebar style swkey
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9726110#post9726110 which puts software buttons in the screen. This app is definitely button saver

HD2 New Weird Screen wont unlock issue - help

this is a new problem for me. I have been using the most recent Dutty ROM together with Mdeejay Android ROM without any problems. All of a sudden, when I try to unlock the screen after STANDBY, it just wont register my touch, as if I am not touching it. It boots up fine, and on the first unlock works fine, but when the screen lock goes on again (after every standby) it just wont unlock. So I am stuck (I use Exchange and our policy forces the lock after standby, so I have to use it - and its worked fine for ages).
If I boot into Android, it works fine, the unlock works fine, yet strangely when I try to shut the power down, THAT screen also doesnt register me touching it.
I have hard reset but even before I load an app or do anything, the problem exists.
I also reflashed a DUTTY ROM. Same problem.
I tried CHT lockscreen - same issue. After Standby, screen doesnt register my touch.
Anyone have any ideas?
Same problem for me.. Restoring a backup image after being forced to hard reset this morning and now suddenly my HD2 won't wake up after sleeping. Pressing my end key only lights up my buttons but I have to pull the battery to reset. I'm thinking it's related to me having CHT installed, yours however might be a different problem.
I had something similar. It was right after I had installed CHT 2.0 and was looking to make the top and bottom bars transparent. I found a cab that claimed it would do this and installed it. Sorry, I don't recall what cab it was and I have deleted it. When I rebooted Sense would hang and if it got into a lock it would only move the slider a little where it would stop. Luckily, I had done a backup that morning right after I installed CHT 2.0 with Sprite so I restored and all was well.
I don't know if this is of help but I figured I'd throw it out there.
it wakes up, but wont register when I try to swype the unlock screen.

Your lucky you get that far lol.. I don't get any waking up. Plus I now uninstalled S2U2 and still no change. Disabled all locks of any kind and still frozen with sleep of death with in 1 min of hitting power to sleep it. I REALLY don't want to to a hard reset and install everything from scatch.. UGH.
weird update...
It has something to do with which key i witch the device on with. If I use the phone key, I can swype the unlock. If I use the power key, it doesnt register.
Another related issue: when i hold the power key to switch off, it wont register me touching power off or reboot etc. so I have to take the battery out to switch off. Its the same in Android.
Anyone know? Hardware issue?

same
im having the exact same issue. I have flashed 3 different roms and flashed to the newest radio (2.15).
I started out using energy rom, didnt help. Flashed a newer energy rom, didnt help. Now im using the dusk rom, same issue.
SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!
It's a quite common digitizer problem lately... it seems the HD2's digitizer is failing on some units, possibly because of usage with android? my father's device acted the same way, only it sometimes did register touch and other times, not.
My device doesn't have these problems, yet. But seeing that a lot of people here are experiencing these issues, and with the notion that I use android pretty much all the time since I first booted my device, i'm pretty sure i'll experience it soon as well..
Make no confusion thou, the assumption that android effects the digitizer are purely my own thoughts on this matter, no such thing has been proven and the conclusion that android is effecting our HD2s is based purely on the statistics of touch screen failures in the last few months since android has been made publicly available in a working form.
EDIT:
Those seeking A solution, as far as I know, the only solution is sending your unit to HTC for repairs, you'll get it back with a note that says that they replaced your digitizer or your screen, at least these are the reports I heard from the other folks whom followed this procedure.
Good luck.
HTC HD2 Screen Lock
I have only used Android a few times on this 'phone and it has a standard HTC/O2 ROM installed so it must just be a problem with the top part of the digitiser. With android running the unlock is at the bottom and is unaffected.
Is there any way of testing the digitiser before deciding whether to get a repair sorted,

A friend was complaining to me about something like this since last week. I could not figure it out so I went ahead and installed Android cm7 and still have the same issue.
Until I read this post after searching through the forums all over Screen now unlocks perfectly fine but only using the green Phone icon. If I try to wake the screen with the red Power button, the screen is unresponsive.
Thanks for the info.
Already happened tome its a hardware issue can't be fixed so if you still have warranty on ur phone send it to htc for repairs b because it tends to get worse n worse soon other keys will start to give in I think that's one reason why most android phone been switching to capacitive buttons because hardware causes this sorta issues and send it in for repairs to get it fixed
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
the same issue with me , is there is any solution for that .
Wakeup the phone using the send button.it will work

Screen timeout killing phone!

Recieved my HD yesterday, and this is the symptom of the issue:
When the phone reaches its screen timeout (whether its 30 secs or 10 mins) period it the phone turns off completely. It is not possible to then turn the phone back on using the power switch or any other way. The only way the phone can be turned back on is to take the battery out and put it back in.
Initially i thought maybe it was the battery and somehow it didnt have proper connection with the copper contacts. However if i turn off the screen timeout off completely then the phone stays on and doesnt turn off. So as long as the phone doesnt go into power save mode or screen timeout its fine and stays on. Its also not the power switch as the switch works fine other wise.
I rang HTC support, spoke to some clueless call centre lady who tried to tell me it might be a proximity issue. I dont think it is as i dont have any issues when making or receiving calls. The problem is for some reason screen timeout causing the phone to completely shut down. I have searched on a few forums and cant seem to find anyone else with this issue.........FML
Forgot to add, i have also done the following:
- Reset to factory default
- Checked for udpates (get a message saying my phone is up to date)
- Made sure phone sim cover and battery cover are properly secured
Nothing has worked so far

So the switch turns the phone off and on again, or just off?
switch turns phone on and off any other time but after screen lockout kicks in it doesnt do anything, i have to take the battery out to turn the phone back on.
In a normal scenario if i want to power the phone down and then power it back up again then it is fine
Hope that makes sense
It really sounds like a software issue.
Is your DHD branded or unlocked?
Maybe try install some of the custom roms from arround the forum.I use LeeDroid 1.2 and it works like a charm.
Go to "ROM Development" thread. There are a few HOW-TOs on the top. There is always a risk u mess things up but it's small and from how it sounds, u don't have much of a choice anyway good luck
Its a branded "Orange" phone from the UK. I think im just going to return it and get a replacement and if i still have issues then ill try your suggestion thanks. Really disappointing, Desire HD seems to be riddled with issues.

[Q] WP7 Screen turns on in pocket + not 100% charge

I only have two issues so far with WP7. Everytime I get a text message, the screen turns on. When its in my pocket and i get one, my pocket bumps the screen and keeps calling people, sending random texts and more. Which 1, annoys people and 2, kills the battery even faster than it already does.
The other issue is the battery not charging to 100%. It gets to maybe 90 (has a sliver of the bar gone) after charging it overnight.
Also, I have Location Services turned off and 3G off most of the time and only text a bit throughout the day. When I get home from work the battery has hit maybe 10 or 15%. Is this normal?
Any fixes at least for the screen on issue would be very much appreciated.
I'm having the same issues with the screen turning on whenever an SMS is received. I'm hoping there is a fix out there, or that the latest magldr will fix it.
I'm confused, whats wrong with the screen turning on when an SMS is received? Doesn't it still show the lock screen, requiring a slide up to unlock the device? My screen turns on when I get a new text but turns off after 10 seconds roughly.

The problem is, it's in my pocket. If the screen comes on then, my pocket is going to be hitting the screen which will eventually unlock it and start messing with everything. All I want is a sound notification, there is no need for the screen to come on for a text message. Phone call yes, but not text.
Sorry for bumping something from months ago, but the screen on issue is still around with the NoDo rom. Am I the only one concerned about this?
Maybe you set a code (0000, 7889...). I dont know any other smartphone, which displays a new message etc. NOT!
Regards and have a nice evening
Oliver
Yeah, the funny thing is that about two days ago my HD2 unlocked in my pocket, and upload some random picture on Facebook, next picture in line was my girlfriend naked - she would beat the bejesus out of me, lucky me...
Why don't you just set a one digit password like 2 or 3 to prevent it from unlocking and u can still unlock it fast

The problem is, it's in my pocket. If the screen comes on then, my pocket is going to be hitting the screen which will eventually unlock it and start messing with everything. All I want is a sound notification, there is no need for the screen to come on for a text message. Phone call yes, but not text.

Seriously, you have a donate to me sign for yourself? For what might I ask????
What are you doing with your phone in your pocket that it would unlock your phone? (Don't even want to know...eek!)
And why don't you carry your phone in a holster like most people? That way...no "accidental" unlocking in your pocket. Problem solved.
Finally...have you tested if an actual official WP7 phone does or does not have the same problem that pocket carriers seem to have?
Stop reposting old news and go buy yourself a holster.
what on earth is your problem? can you not say anything nice to people?
Well i dont use a holster and i dont know anyone that does either, but it wouldnt help the issue of the phone turning on when you get an SMS message, i suppose it would help with pushing random buttons, but then you wouldnt catch me dead wearing one, you'd look a bit of a gimp where i come from
ive sent all manor of rubbish back to people that have text me, which is why i use the password locked screen and 30 sec turn off.
The chances of that getting typed in by accident is very unlikely
I sometimes get the sound of a picture being taken with the phone in my pocket, with the result that my camera roll has a lot of black, out of focus shots in it.
This is due to the left hand hard key being depressed for a few seconds. It may be that once on, the phone can then navigate to your camera roll and then send mms etc all by being jiggled in the pocket. Dont know if this feature can be turned off, and cant test at the moment
I sort of like the screen password solution. But I a sure it will get annoying in no time.
To repeat what hjhjhj said, but in a nicer fashion, get a holster (yuck).

I have a donate thing just cause it's available to me in my profile settings. You or anyone else shouldn't worry about things that have NOTHING to do with the topic at hand.
What am I doing? I am walking, or I happen to go out running.
I will never get a holster, that is what my pocket is for. I've known two people who have used one and either the phone fell out of the holster or the holster fell off them and destroyed the phone after many of those drops. Before you ask, yes it was made for the phones they were using...
I haven't tested an actual WP7 phone cause I don't have one and don't know anyone who has one.
This was just a simple question that I asked, no need to go on about other things. I figured there would be something in the registry to change it so it does not turn on.
Read few posts here, i see 2 problems mentioned:
1) battery drain
2) camera button that wakes phone
So, i offer you to:
2)If you have nodo/prenodo you can change camera button(green call button) via software to open up not camera, to open call log or any other stuff, and it probably wouldn't work when screen isn't on.
If you don't wanna use any xaps - you can install green mango(i offer blacksides rom) and via settings u can disable camera app to launch from lockscreen.
1)About battery drain:
On prenodo/nodo i had similar battery drain as some1 mentioned, with different roms i've got pretty same result, and i was charging phone every day, and usually everytime when i could - often in evening being not at home phone just turned off because of 12h non charging!
Now: i have blacksides green mango and my experience is:
1) after rom flash and first full charge(over usb cable to pc) i was calling, texting, surfing internet via wifi like 2h, playing games like ~1,5h total, used gps like half hour, don't remember everything exactly what i did, but it was pretty hard usage of phone and battery lasted ~2days!
2) Now i'm on 2nd full charge and currently i'm ill and always near my pc, so i use my phone only for sms+calls, and currently my "battery saver"(new mango function) shows:
Remaining battery life: 52%
Time since last charge: 2days 8 hours
So overall my phone battery lasts ~3-4times better on mango than on nodo/prenodo, so i recommend you to use green mango, anyway there are problems with "sim error" sometimes(usually when you use wifi, when you don't - i had ~3days no sim errors, so that's pretty fine)
So these were my thoughts about your problems, thanx

Most people on what planet? I put a case on my phone and I carry it in my pocket. My wife carries her phone in a purse. I refuse to use a holster or wear a utility belt like freaking Batman.
I too have a problem with pockets and wp7, but all I can really do is password protect it.
As for the battery not charging completely, I have a tiny fix for that. I too noticed my battery would not charge completely, but it seemed to be an issue with WP7 not reading the battery correctly. It was permanently stuck at 88%. Upon restarting the phone, and reinserting the cable, it was able to charge again til 100%. I'm not sure if that's a problem with Green Mango or what, but I was able to get mine to charge completely that way.
As for battery drain, even with the camera trick and barely any usage, my battery still ends up in the low 15% by the end of the night. I think its just an issue with the ROM that will hopefully get fixed in the RTM release.
Mango RTM still has these problems
Mango RTM still has these problems.
When inside pocket it can be turned on accidentally(camera button or power button) or by reminders, alarms or SMS. So it is very likely that a WP7 will wake up inside the pocket.
But that's not the real problem, the real problem is that the auto sleep timeout (30 secs, 1 min or whatever) is reset every time the lockscreen is touched. Now, can you imagine with which frequency the screen is rubbed inside a pocket? If you are walking or running it could be just every second. The result? Phone keeps on for a long period of time, draining battery and warming up.
Sometimes you don't notice it because luckily you freezed and you gave time for the timeout to happen, but it could have been ON for hours. You notice that when you take it out for use and see the battery meter and think why the heck the phone drains so much battery. And it's just that: WP7 phones have insomnia.
Then comes a second problem, that rubbing inside the pocket can also unlock the phone because the lockscreen will slide up with a very short swipe (2cms). Once unlocked the touch party begins, a lot of apps will be opened, emails written, calls answered/rejected, etc, etc. One good option should be the ability for the user to setup how long to swipe to trigger the unlock.
Some people will enable PIN protection or get a hard case to prevent this. But not the idea. Many use the phone just naked, and if a phone has a lockscreen then it must meet its purpose, it should not be just a screensaver, it must be touchsaver as well.
We developed PocketShield back in the WM6 era, and users loved it mainly because it solved these kind of problems.
I think battery life is one of the most important aspects on mobiles, and the big cons on peoples mouth about phones is always battery life. So hope Microsoft puts a big effort so resolve this on the next update.
pocket txting, dialing, and killing what is already a bad batt life
holsters are for uptight business types or people who want to look important. as i too am NOT batman i opt out of the utility belt!
there were many LITTLE things that WP7 lacked and were easily overlooked! my phones random uploads, txts, random settings changes, useless battery drain and the like from within my pocket were not.
yes you can PW protect but if the phone still recieves stimuli in pocket, even with a PW, you still have the useless battery drain. with the way these roms chomp up the battery to begin with its hard to overlook!
this issue was the determining factor of me jumping back on the Android bandwagon and leaving the little appreciated WP7 ( LOVED THIS OS TOO!!! )
has anyone redesigned a better/different lock screen? perhaps found the registry value to disable the screen waking on notifications? ANYTHING would be great!
thanks!!!

[Q] HTC Sense "Slide to unlock" does not respond

Some time ago I installed Android on my HTC HD2 and was quite happy with it.
Until gradually it became impossible to unlock the phone.
The "slide to unlock" does no longer respond
So after a lot of trial and errors I decided to flash the rom again and went back to HTC Sense (WM6.5) factory settings... Unfortunately this did not change anything
I don't think the touchscreen is broken as the slider region on the display reacts fine once I'm in (after reset e.g.)
It's only the fact that I'm not getting in once I set the device to standby
anyone an idea what I could try ?

Your digitizer is probably busted, meaning you'll have to ship that baby for repair.
I had the same things a couple of months back. Screen looks ok, but actually it isn't, as it doesn't respond.
Well, that's what I thought first...So I sent the device to DynaFix... who are in charge of all repairs for HTC in the BeNeLux
After 2 day they already send me an offer for the repairs
As the device was "dropped" (How the hell do they know -to be clear: device had NOT dropped in any way)
Repairs would cost me roughly the same as a new HD2 - I wonder... would this have to do with the fact that the device was just over one year old ?????
Anyways, I objected and demanded proof of "the device having dropped"
Their response: "Sorry, we looked into the case again and detected illegal software on the device" They referred to Android and stated that the guarantee was no longer valid. End of story you think ?
Not realy. If they were convinced that the illegal software caused the device to malfunction... then they should just flash the device back to factory settings.
So I asked for a new offer to do this
Their response ? The original offer to replace everything (motherboard, screen,...)
Since then, I could mail, call,... whatever... DynaFix no longer responded to my questions... and what strikes me: they just send me the device back (of course with an invoice for the investigations) - without me having agreed on that.
back on topic now:
The digitizer could be faulty, that's right, but what is strange is, that if I do a reset... and bypass the slider, the device works perfectly. Even the area where the non-responsive slider is located, is reacting just fine
It seems that the touchscreen is not initialized/not powered when I switch the phone on and try to "slide"
Just now I did a reset, put the device in standby, switched it back on and the slider worked mysteriously !
Back to standby, switched it on again... slider did NOT work - Back to square 1 ?
I would like to find a way to remove the slider.... just to switch the phone on and immediatelo to home screen... without a "slide to unlock"
This way I could check whether the problem is related to the slider/"switching on" or not
Does anyobne know if this is possible ?
one question: which button to you use to wake the device when it is running and screen is off in sleeping state?
try using another button and avoid using the power/endcall button...there are many threads here about people describing nearly the same problem as you are. and nearly all of those users concluded that their power/endcall button was indeed faulty, causing the touch screen to stop responding, unless the power/endcall button was pressed at a certain angle.
most android builds allow the device to wake up using ANY of the buttons (except the volume keys). since i read those threads, i have taught myself to use all the buttons evenly.
your analysis is interesting, but i don't think there is a software solution...after all, you did try stock ROM and the problem remained. sounds to me more like a faulty power/endcall button that sometimes interferes with the touch screen.
try to recalibrate touch screen
well well well... you were right !
When I use any of the other buttons (except the power/endcall) the device reacts smoothly... even unlocks without any problem
So it must be the power/endcall button which is bugging me
Now just have to test what happens with incoming calls.... can I unlock them - that's the question
But anyways, great help guys ! Much obliged ;-)
im using an htc hd2 - t-mobile version and im also experiencing the same problem
have you tried pressing the home button on the lower left instead of the other buttons to wake up ? works for me though
any of the buttons will do apparently to wake the device and make the slider respond
What about answering calls ? Any issues with that ? Which button do you use for answering incoming calls ?
back to square 1
the freezing up of the device when trying to unlock was fixed by using another button to wake it up... and then some days later that magic trick no longer cut it either.
Warranty ? yeah, that's a real joke - they refer to moisture (not at all) or Illegal software (android is illegal ???) as reasons why warranty does not apply !
I just wish I could remove the slider in a way.... just switching it on and off... and maybe use it as a multimedia device instead of a smartPHONE. It's far from being SMART now
So now I'm stuck with a €500 device which worked perfectly for about 1 year and now the device closed the door on me (and locked it for ever)
I was an HTC fan before.... but all their credit is gone now.
