It's fine especially with the turbo charge and Qi charging options.
I'll pretty much be able to have it charging anywhere easily since I have a few Qi charging plates available (Tylt on my desk, for example).
Turbo charge will get it an hour of OST in a few minutes of charge.

Hade you listened to music with headphones yet?
It would be very interesting if you had the opportunity to compare the quality and max volume with another phone for comparison

Did you do no research before buying this? Did you get the phone out of a mystery box? I hate to sound like an A-hole but I just don't get it. All of your other points are valid and informative but you buy a big phone then complain about the size is dumb to me.

There's nothing 'dumb' about this. Reading stuff and actually using something is very different. You can't get an idea of phone size and usability without owning it.

Guy thinks 5.5 would be perfect but 5.9 has no idea the difference in size?
If can't tell the difference then maybe go to the store before spending 650.00. It's what I'm doing not because I don't know the size but I like to try a device before spending the money.

I think it just depends on your hand size. Personally, I've texted with one hand so for me it's not bad.

Not a lot. Probably 30 min. It is my second cycle so I expect better.

THIS! There was at least one report that the volume was low. I gotta have my music. Bluetooth is okay but I'm happiest with my Bose headphones on. If audio sucks it's not worth having. Here are my experiences
Galaxy S2 = low volume, sucked beyond suck
Galaxy S3 = no complaints
Moto X 2013 = no complaints
Nexus 5 = not as good as Moto X so sent back
OnePlus One = no complaints
iPhone 6 = oh yeah Spotify sounds awesome
Nvidia Shield portable = oh yeah! I can't turn it up all the way it's too loud but it sounds great.
I certainly hope they didn't screw this up on the Nexus 6.

I do not own the phone but I used one from a friend who recently came in from the US (32 Blue).
My time was just over an hour so this review is not that deep, but some facts I found. (I will compare with the Note 4 and iPhone 6+ as these two phones I have a load of experience with).
SCREEN:
Bright, but not extremely bright. Better than the Galaxy Nexus I'm currently stuck with using (Nexus 5 died) but that isn't saying much. It is noticeable less bright that the Note 4 and iPhone 6+. The colours are less vivid than the Note 4 and the colour balance is not as good as the iPhone 6+. If the Note 4/6+ where next to the Nexus 6 in store with all having maximum brightness, the Nexus 6 would easily fail to convince the prospective buyer that it has a decent screen. The screen is decent, but flawed. It is not super engaging - just ok. It does the job indoors. I did not test outdoors. In terms of sharpness I found it equally sharp compared with the much lower resolution 6+ but not quite as sharp as the Note 4.
The size of the screen initially made me not want it, then I considered it would be ok but after using it I love the 5.95 inch screen and I wish it was a solid 6 inches and closer to the bezels. I do not like how the bottom bezel is slimmer than the top, but what can you do! The size of the screen feels great.
5/10 in my opinion. Respectively I'd give the 6+ 7/10 and Note 4 8/10.
BUILD/BODY:
Build quality on the blue Nexus 6 seemed good; the metal frame is a nice addition and the blue is really dark (or that could just be from memory). Not as bad as I was expecting. If you dropped it I think it would be less damaged than your iPhone 6+ or Nexus 5. Not a bad phone to hold either for it's size. The 10.1mm thick point however is a bit of a joke. The battery is very average and the camera could've easily fit into a 7-8mm thin body - in my opinion it is just too fat. It feels super fat and it looks super fat, next to the 6+. It just feels fat to me. My opinion. Also the rounded back makes it impossibly annoying to leave and using while resting on a table.
Build quality: Seems like 7.5/10 - materials do not feel or look as good as an iPhone 6+ but feel better than the Note 4.
Thickness: 1/10 - really did not like it at all, it just felt thick to me. This is my personal opinion however!
CAMERA:
Fast, good quality and an improvement on the Nexus 5. HDR+ is still too slow for quick use. I thought the stock camera app was extremely underwhelming. Hardly any good options and no RAW photos out of the box. The video mode I did not try apart from 4K (which was not as good as the Note 4). Standard pictures indoors in normal light were good, but not great. Note 4 and 6+ beat it hands down. No matter what picture I took with the Nexus 6 none impressed me that much. Shutter speed for normal photos was decent, but slower than the iPhone 6+ (noticeably, especially when the camera occasionally lost focus and tried to refocus - it took about 2 seconds on average when this happened). Also, for the sheer size of the phone I was recommended by a photographer (my girlfriend) that the aperture could've easily been 1.2 to 1.5/3 for the size of the phone and that would've produced better images. She mentioned that the flashes overexposed my images (which they did when used) and that is due to being too close to the lens; also an xenon flash would've been a better choice for this phone.
Camera: 5.5/10 - good, improvement on the Nexus 5 but nothing to write home about. I'm sure with better software you will be able to use this camera well. I feel like it was let down by terrible software (this is 2014/15 guys...the camera software should be more optimised).
SOUND:
Speaker sound of course dominates the iPhone 6+ or Note 4; not as good as the HTC Boomsound but still loud and clearer then most phones I've used. Noticeable good loudspeaker sound when playing music back. I did not get to check what it sounds like when using speaker phone when making a call, but I assume stereo speakers for voice calls (loudspeaker) would be a great improvement. I think that my biggest problem is that they are ugly (the speaker grills) to me on the front of the device, but that is again a personal opinion. They work well.
The music player playback through headphones is NOT good. The volume is too low, the sound quality is average (a bit better than the Nexus 5 but not by much - 99% of people would not tell the difference). I used to work heavily in music production so I have an idea of what I'm talking about here. The music playback quality in the phone is not down to software (I'm sure software could help it a bit here) but hardware. I do not believe the phone has a dedicated music chipset (or whatever it is called) in the phone (correct me if Im wrong). The sound playback is not amazing and not premium. iPhone 6+ is better and even the Note 4 was better for playing music back through headphones.
SPEAKER QUALITY: 8/10
PLAYBACK (HEADPHONES) QUALITY: 4/10
SPEED AND OS:
The phone is faster than the Nexus 5 for normal use. I had heaps of windows open and no lag. Really smooth and the animations of the OS look great. Android 5.0 feels like they hired someone from Apple to improve the feel of the OS, without limiting your customisation options. It's great, so much better than Jelly Bean (which I'm currently using on my Galaxy Nexus). Sometimes when opening large apps (Asphalt 7: Heat) the phone slowed down noticeably. It look over 10 seconds to open this app, twice it didn't open after 10 seconds and crashed. There are some serious slow down issues with large apps here. These issues did not exist on the Note 4. In terms of everyday use - if you are coming from a stock, clean Nexus 5 - you will not notice a huge speed difference, if any. From memory the Nexus 5 was just as quick in everyday use (phone calls, text messages, accessing the gallery). The Nexus 6 might be quicker but not enough to make a lasting impression. This is just down to the RAM/Snapdragon 805 combo - yes it is the latest from snapdragon but not as snappy as the iPhone 6+ (which feels a bit more streamlined and quicker). The Note 4 felt slower than the Nexus 6 though overall, but not by much. As I said above, despite feeling a little heavier than the Nexus 6, it was faster to open apps (sometimes significantly faster).
OS: 8/10 - great step up from previous Android OS versions.
SPEED: 7.5/10 - a quick phone, but has serious slow down issues.
BATTERY:
From an hour of use I can't tell how good it is but it did dip nearly 30% from my use with it which included web browsing, photos, music playback and some video watching as well as a phone call. The call quality was normal, I didn't have a problem with it. Volume was good too (but that could just be because I was indoors with minimal environmental sounds bothering me). I can't rate the battery based on this brief amount of time with it however I do suspect that if you used this phone heavily you will not get more than 15 hours of use; screen on time of more than 5 hours - I can't see it lasting. Competitively the Note 4 that I've used lasts about 5.5 hours with heavy use and constant screen on time, the iPhone 6+ lasted well over the 6 hour mark. I was left with an impression that the battery should've could've been bigger in this phone.
CONCLUSION:
I didn't spend long with this phone but from what I can tell it was good. It was NOT worth the $970+ for the 64gb version here in Australia (delivered, off-contract price). This felt like a solid $500 phone. Yes it was overall better than the Nexus 5, but it was not that much better. It was not $570 better than the Nexus 5. Sorry to say it, but it is true. I liked it better than the Note 4 but that is because I hate TW. If the Note 4 was stock Android, the Nexus 6 wouldn't survive. The iPhone 6+ (I've never liked iOS) held its own against the Nexus 6 in terms of camera quality, screen quality, premium looks/feel and speed.
I was planning to buy three Nexus 6 phones (one for me, one for my girlfriend and one for my mother). I purchased her a 6+ because I couldn't wait around for its release. Still in the market to buy myself a new phone and my girlfriend a new phone. The Nexus 6 is not in our price range or scope. Too expensive and not enough phone for the price. If you are talking pure specs - Asian phones (VIVO etc) offer the same processor/RAM combo with 8mp FF camera with flash and 16MP rear facing camera with dual LED flash in a waterproof body thinner than 7mm with a battery 3500-3900mh. Let's ignore the OS on the Asian phones as you can easily install stock Android onto them (the Chinese dev community for them is huge) - just focusing on hardware. You are trying to tell me that some Asian manufacturer can produce overall better specs in a phone and sell for $300 cheaper (for me) than Google can? What a load of BS. Google should've tried harder and put more into it for the price. Software is good, but it fails in big departments (e.g. camera).
Yes this is a long conclusion but this is a conflicted phone. I wanted to love it and spend my money on it but for what it is, I can't do that. The stock OS is nice but not worth so much money. I don't have money to burn and so I cannot afford to burn what I have on a phone which makes me feel like they held back...more than they should have.
If you want stock Android experience I can't tell you to buy the Nexus 6 as the Nexus 5 would do the same job for you. Sure the camera and battery is worse on the Nexus 5 but I would still go with it. Hold out with that phone for a few months until the Nexus '7' (or whatever the next stock Android phone is called) gets released. The Nexus 6 just is not worth all that extra money for the upgrades it has. Good phone, nice phone, solid and I like the 6 inch screen but not nearly a $1,000 phone at all.

Interesting review. Did you try the N5 with 5.0? It runs even faster than on 4.4 and possibly loads faster than the N6 since there's no encryption, though there are still some compatibility issues with certain apps and ART which the N6 would also share.

While I appreciate your thorough and lengthy assertions it's hard to take them without a grain (large grain) of salt.

I never tried the N5 with 5.0 so I can't comment on that, just the 4.4.4 version

I used the N6 for about an hour. You didn't like my review conclusions I'm assuming...My review is exactly what I experienced in an hour of use; the only thing that I can't talk much about is the battery.
You don't need a month or even three days to be able to tell someone how a phone operates in regards to:
- Sound quality (speaker)
- Music playback quality
- Taking pictures in one location (inside room, normal lighting)
- Taking 4K video in the same conditions
- App opening speed
- Overall OS speed and basic use
- Build & Design in hand
I can give a good idea of all this in an hour. Anyone can. These are basic points which can be experienced in an hour. The sound quality is not going to change in an hour if I kept the phone for a week. It will still sound the same. The app opening speed won't change either etc.
Absolutely take with a grain of salt as this is my detailed experience with the phone, but saying a large grain is a bit crude and just sounds like you don't like my opinion of a phone you likely paid for. I didn't pay, my review is not biased in any way and I have nothing to gain from writing something negative (or positive). Will I ever own a N6? Maybe, if it becomes cheap enough or if I am gifted one. This is just not a $1,000 phone (64gb for me is about that; 32gb is about $900 shipped) - plain and simple.
I do own a Nexus 5 (since launch); as per my sig. Yes I have experience with a N5.

Didn't mean to come off as crude that is the last thing I want to sound like. I think your opinion is just that, your opinion, and I neither like or dislike it. Sorry you took my reply the wrong way. 1 hour is not enough time in my opinion, even one day would not be enough time. That is my opinion. Thanks for your input

No Tech Blogs. i.e. I don't care about objective reviews, I only want to hear 100% positive responses and live in a positive feedback loop where all my Nexus 6 buddies and me circlejerk. I claim the phone's qualities are subjective, but then dismiss all negative opinions as those by a bunch of phonies and not "real" and far below mine.

Nexus 5x I am positive about this phone.

I just thought to counterthread underwhelmed thread. At the end of the day it all boils down to personal needs and little of common sense because new phone seems to be pretty awesome and I mean that.
It's from google so you will have timely updates and your phone will not go into oblivion with updates. Phone is developer very friendly and popular you can tinker it till you die.
RAM problem?! Maybe for some if you hardcore appsumers that don't bother to disable/switch off them once in the while.
Snapdragon 808 such a flop! It's 2015 ! 810 still does a better job when throttles blah blah blah.... C'mon this phone will fly and it's not like you are going to run touchwiz. I currently use Moto G 3 Gen 2GB version and it flies ! Yes it flipping snappy and responsive and I don't play games either. I got like 5-7 chrome windows opened, few apps in the background , VLC player on hold and that little thing is supper great.
1080 FHD screen. I think its heaven unless you do VR stuff and pixels bother you fair enough but for everything else 1080 is sweet hell of the spot and sharp . Also no extra strain for GPU and battery. Panel should be great just as on Nexus 5 and probably better given it's 2015.
I am all the way about IPS panels for few reasons even best S6 amoled panel on basic mode produces dull yellowish whites (sRGB colour space) I don't like wide gammut like Adobe RGB , apart from work I occasionally do, I have no interest in it and even then it looks so unnatural to me eye. Another thing about amoled is gamma which is higher than 2.2 and leaves dark shadows with indistinguishable gradient. It just turns dark and black.
Camera should be nice so in the low light. I shouldn't worry too much about EIS my guess it will have some sort of digital control and I also heard it can be done on the phone in the post ( correct me if I am wrong) So far still samples look really nice in both light conditions.
I like C type cable because I had Iphone 6 and it was so cool just to stick charging cable into phone without any second thought.
One thing I am pretty sure many of you are not aware is front facing camera on 5x has larger aperture at 2.0f while 6p only 2.4f. I don't personally bother about wireless charging because C connection makes it so easy and hassle free to do charging. 5' screen is fine but a little extra at 5.2' is ideal. It comes as perfect media and pocketable device.
Storage wise yes I would prefer 64 GB but 32 will do. And sure they are suckers like apple when giving you an option of 16GB just to piss you off so you can pay extra 50 to buy 32GB version.
I can only say look what apple does with it's hardware...
Edit: Another reason I don't get 6P is the size. Flipping ell nearly 16cm long. Will you get me a new pair of hands too ?

Totally with you on this one. I'm coming from a Note4 after 2 faulty N6's forced me away from Nexus. From a hardware point of view the 5x will be a downgrade but, in every day use it will actually perform better. It's proven in my old N5 which is used by another family member. Every time I get to play with it I consider asking for it back as its still really smooth and even worked better than the N6 in some respects. The Ram on the 6P will be maxed out pushing pixels and the lager battery will be feeding this process so it's not going to be super amazing. Anyone who has the N6 or a Note 4 can tell you that. Some like bigger and powerful phones for games and media and each to their own on that. I want a phone that lasts a day, takes decent enough pictures, and works well with no issues. I have other dedicated devices for everything else.

Just ordered one. I currently have a S6 edge, but I really miss the nexus experience and the 6P is too big for me. Messing with my old nexus 5 just made me want to use it again, but I wanted the fingerprint scanner, so the 5X it is!

This is my thoughts exactly. I think this will be a no frills, smooth phone. Not top specs, but solid enough. If the camera works out well and the battery lasts longer than my Moto X Pure, then I think this will be my next phone. User experience is more important than specs to me.
I also hate AMOLED, not a good experience with the Galaxy Nexus nor the S4 and I've heard bad things about the first two Moto X and Nexus 6 screens...
Yes, I would have preferred 64, but I can learn to be frugal with storage.

Lots of *****ing & moaning about the 5X, but what alot of people don't realize is that the 5X will be alot faster than the G4 & Moto X Pure/Style because it's using a 1080p screen, wouldn't be surprised if it keeps up with the 810 in some test's, 1080p is plenty sharp enough, and being IPS display rather than AMOLED means no burn in problems in the future.
Now onto memory.
2GB on Marshmallow will be more than enough, due to optimization in Android 6.0, I can bet my house & car it run just as smooth as the 6P or other phones with 3GB or 4GB of ram, it is stock Android after all not bloated to high heaven.
Storage.
This i think is the only let down with this phone it should have been 32GB base & 64GB, 16GB these days isn't enough more so without micro SD.
Wireless charging.
Not something i would miss tbh, never used it on the Nexus 5 & don't use it on the Nexus 6, mainly because it was slow to charge & the phone would get hotter ie probably shorting the life of the battery over time.
Camera
It has the same camera as the 6P so no corner cutting in this department, it will have the best camera to date on a Nexus device, not having OIS is abit of a let down tbh & only being F2.0 on the lens, even with the bigger pixels on the sensor it still struggle sometimes in low light, if the lens had been F1.8 then it would have been better while having no OIS.
Also having a better Battery & USB type C are another plus to the 5X.
All in all the 5X will be a superb smartphone, the price in a few months will come down as well as more retailer get the hands on it.

@ixon2001 for storage, I will add on that you can buy one of those sandisk type c flash drives. There's another 32gb of external storage
With regards to the camera, the only questionable thing is will it have any type of stabilization. I know there is no EIS, but it is very odd if it did not have some form of stabilization, even if it isn't of the highest quality

The only thing that worries me in this phone is that 808. I've read that this series of chips has overheating problems, is that true? If so, what's the solution? Either way, I don't see a better phone for me in the market, I seriously hate almost everything that isn't Nexus. Kinda starting to sound like an Apple fanboy but the Nexus version of that, haha.

I've got the G4. The 808 is solid and flies. Wait for the 5X with stock 6.0 and 1080p, its gonna kill!

I'm mostly positive about the N5X.
I really wish they'd retained Qi charging. I became a believer in wireless charging when I got my HP Touchpad with Touchstone charger a few years back, and was really happy to see it in the Nexus lineup. Since the last three Android reference phones have had wireless charging, I thought Google had committed to it. I guess it was just a gimmick? Grrrr.....
But yeah - really looking forward to some Marshmallowey goodness on a new Nexus.

I'm in Canada, the only thing I miss is the cost due to our weak dollar. I feel happy LG is making another Nexus phone.

I was originally concerned about the battery size and 2Gb of RAM but I'm confident marshmallow will be more efficient.
Also I would estimate the battery life to be equal to the G4 because it's pushing less pixels and yet has a smaller battery.
It really sucks that we don't get the google play credit though. It says it right on the page when you buy it.

That's great to hear!

Been looking at the chamfered polished edge bezel on the 6P, I tell you know that thing gonna scratch so easily even with just putting it in & out of a case.
It looks exactly like the Note 4's polished chamfered edge which had problems with scratching.
Those who gone for the 5X in a years time if they look after their phones, will still look good as new while the 6P will more than likely be scratched & pitted up to high heaven.

i never used wireless charging in my life. never considered it either. i wont miss it.
1 front-facing speaker - while a disappointment in itself, i never used a phone with dual frontfacing speakers. so from that point of view, the 5x is still an upgrade to my nexus 5.
i dont think i ever encountered ram-issues with the nexus 5. obviously 3 gb would have been nice, but i dont think this will affect my experience in any way. (maybe on android n? who knows)
snapdragon 808 - the nexus 5 is the strongest phone i've ever used, and the 808 is an upgrade to the 5s 800.
camera - it can only go up. although the image quality itself was pretty good with the nexus 5. the biggest issue i had was the autofocus in darker conditions. i have the perfect shot lined up, focused, sharp and crisp, i tap the camera button - the phone unfocuses and takes a blurred shot. what the ****.
all in all it might be a rather small upgrade for a big price tag. but this time, i swear by me mum, i'm gonna use that sucker for the next 3-4 years or so. (like i did with my nexus s)

No need for that. I, myself, have not tried wireless charging and was planning to on one of these two devices (til I canceled my order), but with turbo charging I don't think I even want to try it. Plus, can't really use your phone while charging wirelessly. I'm one of those that many times my phone gets very low and I use it while charging. Turbo charging is more beneficial for me; I don't think not using wireless charging makes us ignorant. Have a good one

I need your opinion!

So,
My boss recently told me that I was required to use a company phone. This was back in July when the best possible Android phone, among the options I had, was the Galaxy S6.
I thought about an iPhone for some time, but couldn't find a reason to switch to the Apple environment as I dont have a Macintosh and I find iOS "too simple" and had no alternative to Tasker, which I use on a daily basis.
This left me with the Galaxy S6, which I'm a little disappointed with.
The private phone that I was forced to leave behind was the Moto X 2014 equipped with CyanogenMod. Even with the stock rom, the Moto X 2014 performed WAY better than the Samsung GS6 in almost every aspect (in my opinion).
I've talked to the MDM admin about using a Motorola Nexus 6 at home to receive emails off my regular schedule along with using a private phone off the MDM system again and he's OK with that.
The reasons why I dislike the GS6:
1) The GS6 is laggy in many occasions. It seems as if the CPU throttles from time to time especially when I try to cast something from Chrome to my 1st generation Chromecast.
2) The physical front buttons... come on. And why does Samsung insist on reversing the button order compared to the rest of the Android phones?
3) The GPS is rarely accurate. It tends to jump between locations, especially when I'm in a rush.
4) TouchWiz and all of its included, "non-disable-able" apps, is trash.
5) Why the blue and no black color?
6) I hate it when manufacturers oversaturate their displays. Even when I've toned the display down, the GS6 is slightly oversaturated.
7) When on MDM and using Knox, the mail client eats up my battery even when it's set to sync once ever 12h.
8) The fingerprint reader is sometimes slow and when Smart Unlock is enabled, I'm forced to swipe instead of using the fingerprint (I know this is a silly reason).
The only reasons why I'm hesitating:
1) I'm used to the size of the Moto X 2014, GS6, etc. The iPhone 6S Plus dimensions are OK in my opinion. Will the Nexus 6p be too large for my taste?
2) I like the option of having an IR blaster in my phone, even though I rarely use it.
3) Is the build quality equal or almost equal to the GS6?
4) The camera should be almost equally as good as the GS6, am I right?
5) I have no idea if Snapdragon 810 v2.1 is overheating. I've heard no opinions on the Nexus 6p.
6) Paying approx €500 ($530) for a new phone which specs are similar to the GS6 is expensive. Is it reasonable in this occasion?
Thanks for reading my wall of text. Now, please let me know what your opinions are. Should I buy hte Nexus 6p and why is it better than the GS6 in your opinion?

To be honest the GS6 is a pretty good phone and the only thing I can complain about it is bloatware, iffy finger print sensor, touchwiz, and no front facing speakers. I've had my GS6 for about 4 months. I'm getting the Nexus 6P because it hit everything on my feature wish list for an overall badass device. Yes there are gripes about it as well but not nearly as much as the GS6. I am getting my Nexus 6P delivered today so I'm really anxious to get off work and set it up. I will have to get used to the size because I never had a phablet but I'm pretty sure I'll manage. I'd say based off all of the reviews, it's well worth the purchase!

I've never owned a Samsung device myself, but I can tell you about the Nexus 6P side, responding to your hesitation list in order:
1) The size is quite large, but coming from a device (DROID MAXX) smaller than the GS6, I've had no problems.
2) Never had an IR blaster, but I don't even watch much on a TV.
3) The build quality is superb and the defect complaints seen on the forums are pretty rare.
4) The camera quality is pretty much the same, but debatable. GS6 has OIS so videos will always be better than the Nexus in terms of shakiness.
5) I've experienced zero heat problems with the Nexus 6P and that's the general consensus I've seen.
6) If you can recoup some losses by selling an old device, I would probably switch. Otherwise, I would probably wait, there's lots of cool exciting tech on the horizon that you might wish you waited for and if you pay for a new device out of pocket right now you won't have the cash to buy it!
A couple more notes:
- This phone is snappy and I've not seen a single performance hiccup thus far.
- The Nexus 6P also has a very saturated display, but you can desaturate it some in the developer settings with sRGB mode. AMOLED displays tend to be more saturated, for better or worse, but I like it!
- You may also need to consider that the Nexus 6P doesn't support wireless or Qualcomm Quick Charge, and uses USB Type-C, so you'll likely need to purchase all new cables and chargers.
This phone arena side by side may help compare all the details!

Also, taking into consideration that you can't root the GS6 (work phone, right?) and no viable/good roms for it, I will say the N6P is the way to go. I moved from the OnePlus One with the works (root, CM12.1 and other mods) and I couldn't be happier. The N6P is really responsive and I am only missing a couple of mods, mostly out of habit, meaning I just have to do a couple of more taps to get some things done. I don't think the size of the phone will be much of a problem, especially with the finger print reader on the back, which you'll be used to within an hour.

The Nexus 6P is VERY big. But it is future proofed. USB type C port, updates directly from Google. More stable, lighter and cleaner UI. Excellent finger scanner. Top end camera on par with Note 5 and iP6s+. Superb speakers on my unit. Very bright display, not as bright as my Z3 but as bright as my iP6+ or a hair darker. Battery life ranges unpredictably from average to VERY good. Design... Very unique is a good place to start and marrying that with attractive materials and aesthetics makes it a winner in my book.

Do you need a company phone or a root phone. Nexus is never good idea for company phone.

This phone is supposed to be used WITH my company number but not managed by our MDM admin. I can do whatever I want to it.

The fingerprint reader will be the least of my problems. I really dont understand why it has to be placed as a physical home button on the GS6.

I'm thinking the same thing. I dislike everything but the metal frame and daylight photo quality about the GS6. I will most likely swap. (I placed the order three weeks ago for a discount price, but am thinking about cancelling or at least postponing the purchase)

Not sure why they skipped out on OIS. I just noticed my GS6's OIS in action yesterday. It's a great feature but I guess I can live without it. Can you double press the power button from sleep to open camera?

Future proof with USB type C, but it still uses USB 2.0. I understand this in a way, as people rarely transfer stuff via cable, but still. I really like all the features though. Especially being stock android and updated more frequently.
The damn MDM admin just let me know that he pre-purchased a 128GB Nexus 6p for himself to try out Android for Work. I wasn't allowed one but was instead offered by my boss that they would take half the cost of a 32GB Nexus 6p without taking ownership of the phone.
Baaah, I can't decide. Wait for the MDM admin to become tired of his new toy or buy my own. I want a new phone to play with!

A few stand-out features it has:
- Ambient display (although not as sensitive as the Moto version)
- A notification LED (optional in settings)
- Front facing stereo speakers (loud and good quality)
- 120 or 240 FPS slow motion video capture
- Laser autofocus for quick photo focusing
- Super quick finger print scanner
- 8MP selfie camera that is higher resolution than most right now
- Always listening OK Google support (not sure if it's the hardware or Marshmallow, but it doesn't eat much battery)
- And of course, Android 6.0 Marshmallow with monthly security updates, and the latest versions in the future
That's all I can think of off the top of my head!

I love the 6p but I'd say don't get it. Not for any of the reasons you mentioned but because phones with the snapdragon 820 are coming in a couple months and if half the hype is true it's worth the wait.
My old Nexus 5 took a digger. If it hadn't I'd have waited.

Very true. Ask things considered it's been an insignificant year for phones. The 810 that's in the 6p has been out a bit and even then it's based on old tech and isn't a big upgrade from what came before it. The 820 is. The 6p is without a doubt one of the best phones out and I bought it because I think it's THE best available despite it's low price. However, there's really nothing new or extraordinary about it.

In what way is the ambient display unreliable? Do you have an example?
How often do you actually notice the throttling compared to non-vanilla phones?

There is always a reason to wait. Especially when I have a phone in the same spec segment, however, I'm really concerned if I have the patience to stick with the SGS6 after being terrible in almost every way.

So I've been seeing alot of posts saying the nexus 6p is "the best android phone ever". Well I, for one, don't quite agree. Yea, it runs stock android which makes the UI alot smoother compared to say samsung . But still the camera is only average. Processor isn't on the real high end build is unique but not a sexy phone. So what are your views?

Very satisfied with this phone. Android pay works with root, speedy and very good battery life for me. I can use different carriers. No bend for me as that is usually from non average handling and I always use a case.

Overall as a total package it is the best Android phone I have used. The battery life is a bit disappointing as I was expecting iPhone 6S Plus type battery but I'm still overall very pleased.

It's a very good phone IMHO, but with the bending issue, noise on the headphone jack and no Android pay with Xposed I feel pretty dumb for buying this instead of a oneplus 2. I have a oneplus one and that phone is solid. I skipped the op2 because of nfc and now I have a bent 6p and still no Android pay. Might not be such a big deal but the 6p costs so much more for similar specs.
Yeah the 6p has a "better" display, but I can't really sus out a big difference unless I'm really looking for it. The camera is also a bit better(mostly in low light).

Are you serious? 810 was the best SOC at the time from Qualcomm, nothing better. This is the newest Super AMOLED from Samsung. Uses larger pixels for camera, best in class for all situations which often are low light. This is so successful Samsung took note and reduced 16mp to 12mp for larger pixel and sensor. Only Moto X Pure has better speakers. Add that with the excellent battery and software, there is little doubt Nexus 6P was the best Android Phone of 2015. No other phone provided the full package. The fingerprint is icing on the cake, Google's imprint is the best fingerprint solution on any smartphone to date.
For custom roms, 6P is heaven. I used Purity in the past, not available for 6P, but I am using it anyway. Building roms for 6P for either CM/AOSP/OMNI based roms is an absolute breeze.
As for quality issues? No idea since I haven't seen any Nexus 6P in the wild that aren't in pristine condition and well perfect.
For those complaining about Android Pay and they rooted for Xposed? That is hilarious...

The Android pay issue is not the phones fault but it's worth noting that in my case I went into it after having used Google wallet for years with exposed on multiple devices. I didn't want the op2 because no nfc, little did I know that it wouldn't matter with Android pay since it locked down the ability to use with root.

I'm not going to get into a war that neither side can win since it's our opinion... But in my opinion, they are insanely overrated, 6P included. I will just leave it at that.

If your heavily invested in your mobile OS, and want everything to work, buy an iPhone.
If you prefer Android, and still want everything to work, Nexus is your best bet. Otherwise, you risk OEM skins breaking things (AA, Wear, etc.), and possibly never seeing a firmware upgrade that gets things right.
Glad your OPO worked perfectly for you; it did not for many.
This is of course just how I see things, but it is due to years of experience with my ear very close to the ground. (C;

Yes we know, you spend all your time on XDA trying to stop folks from buying Nexus and buying a Galaxy phone. It's very clear from your post history you don't actually contribute anything to XDA other than negativity about the 6P.

Is the Nexus 6p Overrated? ....................A IPhone is Overrated. Honestly I would have to say NO, you cant even go to a carrier and pick one up yet. Here is my reason for a a Nexus device:
-Service
Supports CDMA, GSM and Voice over WI-FI, Great for me since I have Verizon and it also would make it easy for me to drop Verizon and go somewhere else without spend 700$+ on their new phone.
-Price to performance
For 499$-649$ now compare to the Samsung S7 edge 800-900$ and performing nearly the same and difference are in the 1-3 sec range (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=smY4FOeVdvs)
-Pretty Great display
It's a Samsung AMOLED Display, only thing you don't get is a super bright mode for the outdoors.
-Great Camera
It not the best camera but it’s a great camera. It’s able to take great picture at night and during the day. 1080p and 4k recording is great when not moving. - Metal build
I'm still wondering how in the world people are bending their phones. It seems like a lot of people watching YouTube these day a little too much. I guess I’m a lucky person who never had that issue. I loved the build but i do rock a case on it, the metal does make it feels like it worth its price.

Best thing that could happen to a smartphone. but it need to be integrated in to more app other the android pay.
-Front facing speaker
Only one other phone that could come close to this level of sound quality is a HTC device with boom sound.
-Battery
This is one of the hardest subject because we all don't use our phones the same. More you play games and watch video faster your battery goes down. Usually on an 8 hour work I get to 83% with light (email, phone call, text message, Facebook). Come home and play games and watch YouTube for 4-5 hours and get to 20% -15%
-No bloatware (include carrier software)
-You know you are get a next Android Update
-Google provides a monthly security Update
-Most active developer community on the internet
-Knowing that you will be able to unlock your bootloader
-Having ROMs and Kernel

It definitely isn't overrated, its extremely reasonably priced in comparison to hilarious outrageous prices charged by Samsung and Apple, its a premium phone without the premium price tag with the best software experience around on a mobile OS. Also the camera definitely isn't average.

People around me think it's overrated (and way overpriced) too, but that's just because I'm in China where no one appreciates the simplicity and speed of AOSP-based Android. The camera is even better with the aid of apps like Camera FV-5 (e.g. macro), and finger scanning speed beats iPhones to it. They like the new MI 5 for instance, but they've never been able to get their hands on one
But yeah, I hate the looks the more I look at it. I don't want it to look like a Huawei phone, lest look like a Mate 7.

I have a right to my opinion that it's overrated. I've said this from the minute I became obsessed with Android phones years ago... People grossly overrate stock Android, hence Nexus phones as well.
For a small and quick example... The 6P is the first Nexus which doesn't have a downright embarrassing camera, yet people still said Nexus was the best. Camera is just one example. Let's not forget the laughable screens on the Nexus 4 and 5, and the color issues with the 6 and 6P.
Anyhow, glad you like your phone. You should if you're using it each day. Everyone has their own needs. I'm happy for you as much as you won't believe it lol. Remember, there is no wrong choice.

Your arguments don't make much sense since Nexus phones were introduced as what Google meant android to be and as a development platform for app developers and for those who contribute to the AOSP project.
Nexus phones were advertised as the best stock android experience and that is true, this is as google meant android to be. Obviously a lot of folks want the Samsung/LG/HTC etc experience. It is ludicrous to say that is overrated, no brand of phone does stock android better. Anyone buying a Nexus device should know what it is they are buying.
Nexus as a mainstream device only came about because a following developed for the stock experience. Camera would not have been high on the list, promoting Android, and helping some manufactures gain brand recognition and growth was. It wasn't until Nexus 5 Google saw Nexus as a brand to go head to head with Apple. Nexus 6 first attempt, and Google managing to provide this level of camera experience and overall feel at $450 one year later is amazing.
Despite the amazing hardware and refinements, I still see Nexus phones as the best way to introduce someone to android on a budget. It comes with great hardware, 810/806, good battery life, fingerprint, monthly security updates, an open platform to use device as you wish (rooting, development), and a great simple point and shoot camera for all lighting conditions. I do not see how that is overrated.
If one wanted the absolute best camera, materials, quality controlled and tested build, and the prestige or popularism, Nexus clearly not the phone. Best to look at an iPhone frankly...

I had the LG G4 for 6 months, sold it and now am happily using a Nexus 6P. I missed my Nexus 5 and the "development" side of things, so going back to the Nexus family makes me happy.

Nexus is perfect for a specific type of user.... The smart ones! Besides the 6p has better low light camera response than g4/v10, which was best from last year.
It's a highly customizable device. Doesn't compare to Samsung or lg in this department. IPhone isn't even on the same planet, its the opposite of customizing.
Also the 6p's 810 v2 has received over 120,000 antutu benchmarks consistently without getting hot or rapid battery loss.
Lastly it will be current for at least 3 to 4 years (maybe more) with a custom ROM.

Haha sorry I was wrong when I said average camera. Better then average but maybe not up to s6 standard?

Everyone has different uses for their phone. Some likes phones with better camera who doesnt watch videos or play games... Some enjoy playing games and dont really use the camera. Some like to listen audio or surf the web.. Some who are rich and just needs a phone.
There is no 1 phone that is the best for everything. If it existed, it woudnt be cheap.. Just look at the 2 biggest players, Apple and Samsung.. their phones still has flaws and cost much more then Nexus devices, even though the nexus devices over the past years are getting up there... This device is just as good as any Samsung or iPhone (of the same year) IMHO...

It was a much needed update from my aging Nexus 6.
Was briefly contemplating iPhone, but stuck with the Pixel.
Overall, I love the camera, the battery is a champ, and so far I feel no need or want to modify the device.
I think google did well with this one.
Let's hope LG doesn't botch the next one.

It's the cherry ? bomb. Like all my Google phones.
Unprecedented battery life.
Fast as Lightning (Especially w/sdcardfs)
No cracks or damage.
Best reception I have ever had.
Extremely challenging to hack. Very easy once you have the slots and Google stops playing games. Lol
Speaker sucks. But I can live with it.
Never have and never will buy anything but a Google phone.

I came from an S5 so anything would have been an upgrade for me. So this thing is screaming fast to me

I bought the phone after I had to send my Note 7 back. I liked it, but didn't keep it long. I've been through a few different phones in the meantime, but finally came back. It's faster than any phone I've used, and still feels really solid, and good in the hand

I came from a N6 as well. I miss the stereo speakers and the bigger screen size of the N6.
The positives of Pixel are the speed, battery life and the general smoothness of the phone.
The cons are pathetic speakers (What was google thinking?), huge bezels (which I find hard to digest coming from a lesser bezel N6) and the lack of development. On my N6 I had flashed almost 10 custom ROMs at different times.
There is hardly much choice for Pixel XL other than a handful ROMs. Perhaps the high price of the phone and the slot rigmarole turns off developers here.
I'm happy with the Pixel , but it was close to $900 and I just feel that I did not get my money's worth. That said, I can't deal with non-Google phones. Was thinking about a One Plus 5, but that's about it. Hopefully Google does something nicer with Pixel XL2.

Just can't justify the price for what you get. I'm a big Audio guy and the speaker is worst I've heard along with 3.5mm jack just sounds awful..
have to run an External DAC to make up for the poor quality
Video recording seems a bit meh blury/grainy no matter what I can't take a clear video unless it's in direct sunlight and then have to deal with the *Lense Flare* another pain in the ass
Rest of the phone is good
Development it's pretty much none existent seems like if you want roms/kernel's either stick with a 6P or OnePlus/Other China device
But I feel like it should of been priced at same as the 6P $440 we only got minor improvements nothing "WOW" to make up for the $300 extra..
I guess we paid for that "Made By Google" bs marketing. Also was never in stock anywhere + the hardware issues drove people away lets hope HTC isn't making again so we can have a great launch and hopefully bring people back :good:

I do miss the value days of the Nexus program. Minus Shamu of course. That was expensive. When I bought those Nexus, I felt like I was getting an incredible value for a smartphone.
Here is something I truly value and want everyone to think about.

I'll tell you by saying what I've chosen as my daily driver and where my SIM card is and what's in my pocket right now. I've had marlin since Nov '16 and iPhone 7 plus since Jan '17. The marlin is in my pocket right now. The iPhone 7 plus is a great device (iMessages, waterproof) but the reason I love android is the ability to modify (stock or ROM-root-kernel) and access to that SD Card. Otherwise the 2 are pretty much equal as to camera, battery, speed, smoothness, response to touches, etc. at least in my perception. So, obviously I'm very pleased with marlin since I prefer it to a very popular alternative. Had a Samsung Galaxy S7 in early 2016 but sold it after 2 months, Pixel much better device to me.

Agreed 100%. Thats why i skipped this one looking forward to the next one. For the price it must have stereo speaker, better audio, water resist, better design and quality. Oh and wireless charging. Then i will jump right in.

Six month user here. And my main complaint for the Pixel remains exactly same as it was back when I bought it. The sudden freezing problem. Just out of nowhere the screen freezes for a second or two, if I am playing a game, then its done, simply over, have to restart, and I can't express how much I hate that. Of course its most noticeable/affecting while gaming, but it happens basically everywhere too, but just less frustrating in other places.
I was advised to format the phone, not root it and blah blah but exact same happened there too, without installing any apps at all! Ridiculous problem and IMHO the most annoying issue Pixels have.
Other than this, I don't know, sometimes the low light photos come with a really weird greenish cast, completely off coloured and way too much noise (yeah with HDR+ On, that's the only one I use anyway) etc.
But other than these two, I have no complaints. Tremendous call quality, more than acceptable display (though still no Apple!), excellent GPS (though Google Maps says to calibrate compass every now and then), buttery smooth interface all around most times, at max volume the loudspeaker is excellent (though at half volume it can't be heard and equally ****e!), really low SAR value etc., I am contemplating the U11 now, just for the sound and camera, but if I don't go that route I am gonna keep this phone for at least two years, and the maximum I have ever used a mobile phone was for 15 months, the Galaxy S2 back in the days, should suffice what I think about this phone.
I also have the OnePlus 3 in office, and I know some people compare it and I can say its basically Guava vs Apples comparison.
PS: Sorry didn't comment about development, but I honestly don't care much about it at all. I bought the Pixel so that I won't be needing the optimise it, let Google optimise it for me, and they did a fairly decent job, but after using Franco kernel I can say Google could have done a much better job. So that's all I need, a custom kernel.

coming from Samsung and LG devices, this phone has been a breath of fresh air even with this new partition scheme. Phone does well, battery life holds up for two days. I just have an issue with bluetooth not consistently sending music info to my radio. Some days it works, other days it's like what music info...

It's great and definitely a worthy upgrade from my Nexus 6. The only thing I miss is the front facing speakers but I didn't use them much anyways, well that and I guess it's way more slippery than my Nexus 6 because I don't use cases at all.

Couldn't be happier. Presently have a 7 Plus and the XL that I swap my sim between. IPhone is great in many ways but I just keep coming back to the Pixel XL....something about the experience I get using it that I really enjoy.
As for the other characteristics of the device others have already commented. I purchased mine at launch and received it later October.

I currently have the Nexus 6P. Damn that is a nice phone! I'm seriously doubting anything will "crush" this phones performance. But I decided I wanted to move up to the Pixel XL. I'm a decent Android gamer, so the updated GPU was nice. Plus, the camera is supposedly just that much better. Among other things, like 4GB RAM instead of the 6P's 3GB.
I don't receive the Pixel XL until Monday, so I'm wearing a path through my foyer, pacing back and forth, waiting for it to arrive.
I've spent at LEAST 30 hours this week doing research on the Pixel, its partition layout, how to get root to work, TWRP limitations, etc. This is certainly more complicated than the 6P.
Part of the reason I decided to plop down for the Pixel, was because I didn't see a lot of development going for it, as there is for the 6P. And since people seem to like my ROMs, I figured I'd toss something out there that I made, and see what kind of life it can breathe into the Pixel.
I think I'll like it. Tried it out in-hand at BestBuy yesterday. Solid device, great screen, color accuracy is actually better than the 6P, and for the first time, I kind of like the phone WITHOUT a case! Never though I'd say that.

I've used iPhones since the 3GS up until the 6S Plus (all jailbroken). I decided to try out the Nexus 6P (first ever Android phone) and fell in love with it! Custom ROMs, kernels, tweaks, Xposed, etc. were all new to me and I loved every bit of it!
However, for some reason, I decided to sell it and pick up an iPhone 7 Plus when it released. As iOS matured, security got tighter, and jailbreaking became more difficult. I got tired of waiting for a jailbreak to release and realized how locked down the OS is (when not jailbroken) compared to Android.
I sold my 7 Plus and bought this Pixel XL. I wasn't a huge fan at first, just because of the confusion with the slots and the lack of development​ compared to the 6P.
Now that there is more development and that I understand the slots better, I'm really enjoying this phone!
Overall, if I had the choice, I would still probably pick the 6P over this; that thing was just a beauty in basically every aspect, and it was the phone that first introduced me into the Android world.
Not a huge fan of the single downfiring speaker or the bottom chin, but otherwise it's a great phone, especially the camera!
I'm going to see what the OnePlus 5 has to offer, and may switch to that - but I'll definitely keep this XL around until the 2nd gen Pixels release. I'll be purchasing the second gen Pixels only if Google allows them to be development friendly like how the Nexus line was. If not, I may make a permanent switch over to the OnePlus line.

Well I had the LG G6, S8+, and I sent the G6 back and sold the S8+. The pixel was snappier than both, better camera than both which is a great feature having and outstanding camera, and more reliable than both. I like stock Android, clean, fast, stable. I like being able to unlock and do what I want with my phone when I want and still have the same snappiness, camera quality, and reliability on custom ROMs. Most times you sacrifice things to go custom. Not with Google devices, Nexus, Pixel, etc. I still have it since released and can't see getting rid of it any time soon. Ya, maybe people thinking of OnePlus 5, but I also had the 3 and 3T and one thing I hated about that is when using anything custom, the camera was horrible, BT for me had issues, and other little nags. All in all, this is definitely my go to device and I've had many.

After having the Pixel XL since I returned the Note 7 (Best phone I've ever owned IMO), There are issues with it that really bug me.
- For one, Youtube stutters and desyncs the audio from the video almost every video I watch, and I watch a lot of YT.
- Second, the bluetooth does not sync right in my Audi, and every 15 minutes it sounds like a modem for like 20 seconds and reconnects. It also doesn't know what to do on voice calls and frequently bounce back and forth between car speakers, and phone speaker mode, so I just turn it off for voice or Hangouts/Meet calls in the car.
- Third, the battery life has been dwindling over time, so I charge twice a day now. Yes, I'm a power user and need at least 6-8 hours of screen on time per day. That being said the phone charging speed is ridiculously fast. I can charge at least 50% in 30 minutes.
- The speakers are crap, and the audio jack doesn't give me enough volume. The setting between say 60-65% volume is way too loud, so the volume curve is not good.
-As a pro, the Camera is excellent, even in low light if you know what you're doing. The video, if you use the auto stability is crap so just don't use it.
The phone does stutter, and take a while sometimes. I am using the stock ROM, and have made no modifications to the file system or home screen at all. As is, this phone is average, so for the price, not worth it. I do have the Verizon version, and not sure if that makes a difference. Can't wait for the Note 8 to come out.

I've had mine since November and still love it. I came from the G7 edge which I was quite fond of as well. The following are the good things that keep me on the Pixel.
- Camera, for stills easily the best available. Wish the EIS didn't cause the jello effect when panning while video recording, but nonetheless I've been quite pleased with the camcorder as well.
- Software, clean, simple, fluid and robust. I am on stock unrooted. I reboot my phone once a month for updates and the phone never lags, gets janky or develops issues requiring a reboot. Additionally, the speed of updates means I'm always up to date with the most secure version​ of Android available.

I've had my Pixel XL 128gb since launch. I came from a Note 7, so was very challenging to get used to having a very lean software base which didn't offer many features in comparison to the Samsung series. I missed many software features from the Note 7.
The thing that gets me the most, is that I was already bored of the device 6 months in. I usually hold onto a phone for 12-24 months. The Note 4 I held onto for the longest time (24months). I enjoyed it as there were both android OS updates, and touchwiz updates, so it constantly got a new lease to life looking fresh or having new features. 8 months on and the Pixel looks exactly the same, with no updates.
I also feel that the design looked dated when I bought it, but it now is really showing it's age with the HUGE bezels. I have also struggled to find any good screen protectors (I've tried them all) as they don't sit properly. The phone is huge with a smaller screen than most phones this price/size.
It's got the worst bluetooth of any phone I have every owned, partly down to Android but also to the Pixel.
Had a lot more ROM options for Samsung, being that you can go Note 4 roms, Note 5 roms, Note 7 roms, AOSP builds, CM, MIUI. I feel like the Pixel has AOSP, stock. That's it really. They are all the same with very minor changes.
Otherwise it's mostly buttery smooth - although i'm constantly keeping my eye out for a new phone, so could be the shortest period I have owned a phone for.
