It's fine especially with the turbo charge and Qi charging options.
I'll pretty much be able to have it charging anywhere easily since I have a few Qi charging plates available (Tylt on my desk, for example).
Turbo charge will get it an hour of OST in a few minutes of charge.

Hade you listened to music with headphones yet?
It would be very interesting if you had the opportunity to compare the quality and max volume with another phone for comparison

Did you do no research before buying this? Did you get the phone out of a mystery box? I hate to sound like an A-hole but I just don't get it. All of your other points are valid and informative but you buy a big phone then complain about the size is dumb to me.

There's nothing 'dumb' about this. Reading stuff and actually using something is very different. You can't get an idea of phone size and usability without owning it.

Guy thinks 5.5 would be perfect but 5.9 has no idea the difference in size?
If can't tell the difference then maybe go to the store before spending 650.00. It's what I'm doing not because I don't know the size but I like to try a device before spending the money.

I think it just depends on your hand size. Personally, I've texted with one hand so for me it's not bad.

Not a lot. Probably 30 min. It is my second cycle so I expect better.

THIS! There was at least one report that the volume was low. I gotta have my music. Bluetooth is okay but I'm happiest with my Bose headphones on. If audio sucks it's not worth having. Here are my experiences
Galaxy S2 = low volume, sucked beyond suck
Galaxy S3 = no complaints
Moto X 2013 = no complaints
Nexus 5 = not as good as Moto X so sent back
OnePlus One = no complaints
iPhone 6 = oh yeah Spotify sounds awesome
Nvidia Shield portable = oh yeah! I can't turn it up all the way it's too loud but it sounds great.
I certainly hope they didn't screw this up on the Nexus 6.

I do not own the phone but I used one from a friend who recently came in from the US (32 Blue).
My time was just over an hour so this review is not that deep, but some facts I found. (I will compare with the Note 4 and iPhone 6+ as these two phones I have a load of experience with).
SCREEN:
Bright, but not extremely bright. Better than the Galaxy Nexus I'm currently stuck with using (Nexus 5 died) but that isn't saying much. It is noticeable less bright that the Note 4 and iPhone 6+. The colours are less vivid than the Note 4 and the colour balance is not as good as the iPhone 6+. If the Note 4/6+ where next to the Nexus 6 in store with all having maximum brightness, the Nexus 6 would easily fail to convince the prospective buyer that it has a decent screen. The screen is decent, but flawed. It is not super engaging - just ok. It does the job indoors. I did not test outdoors. In terms of sharpness I found it equally sharp compared with the much lower resolution 6+ but not quite as sharp as the Note 4.
The size of the screen initially made me not want it, then I considered it would be ok but after using it I love the 5.95 inch screen and I wish it was a solid 6 inches and closer to the bezels. I do not like how the bottom bezel is slimmer than the top, but what can you do! The size of the screen feels great.
5/10 in my opinion. Respectively I'd give the 6+ 7/10 and Note 4 8/10.
BUILD/BODY:
Build quality on the blue Nexus 6 seemed good; the metal frame is a nice addition and the blue is really dark (or that could just be from memory). Not as bad as I was expecting. If you dropped it I think it would be less damaged than your iPhone 6+ or Nexus 5. Not a bad phone to hold either for it's size. The 10.1mm thick point however is a bit of a joke. The battery is very average and the camera could've easily fit into a 7-8mm thin body - in my opinion it is just too fat. It feels super fat and it looks super fat, next to the 6+. It just feels fat to me. My opinion. Also the rounded back makes it impossibly annoying to leave and using while resting on a table.
Build quality: Seems like 7.5/10 - materials do not feel or look as good as an iPhone 6+ but feel better than the Note 4.
Thickness: 1/10 - really did not like it at all, it just felt thick to me. This is my personal opinion however!
CAMERA:
Fast, good quality and an improvement on the Nexus 5. HDR+ is still too slow for quick use. I thought the stock camera app was extremely underwhelming. Hardly any good options and no RAW photos out of the box. The video mode I did not try apart from 4K (which was not as good as the Note 4). Standard pictures indoors in normal light were good, but not great. Note 4 and 6+ beat it hands down. No matter what picture I took with the Nexus 6 none impressed me that much. Shutter speed for normal photos was decent, but slower than the iPhone 6+ (noticeably, especially when the camera occasionally lost focus and tried to refocus - it took about 2 seconds on average when this happened). Also, for the sheer size of the phone I was recommended by a photographer (my girlfriend) that the aperture could've easily been 1.2 to 1.5/3 for the size of the phone and that would've produced better images. She mentioned that the flashes overexposed my images (which they did when used) and that is due to being too close to the lens; also an xenon flash would've been a better choice for this phone.
Camera: 5.5/10 - good, improvement on the Nexus 5 but nothing to write home about. I'm sure with better software you will be able to use this camera well. I feel like it was let down by terrible software (this is 2014/15 guys...the camera software should be more optimised).
SOUND:
Speaker sound of course dominates the iPhone 6+ or Note 4; not as good as the HTC Boomsound but still loud and clearer then most phones I've used. Noticeable good loudspeaker sound when playing music back. I did not get to check what it sounds like when using speaker phone when making a call, but I assume stereo speakers for voice calls (loudspeaker) would be a great improvement. I think that my biggest problem is that they are ugly (the speaker grills) to me on the front of the device, but that is again a personal opinion. They work well.
The music player playback through headphones is NOT good. The volume is too low, the sound quality is average (a bit better than the Nexus 5 but not by much - 99% of people would not tell the difference). I used to work heavily in music production so I have an idea of what I'm talking about here. The music playback quality in the phone is not down to software (I'm sure software could help it a bit here) but hardware. I do not believe the phone has a dedicated music chipset (or whatever it is called) in the phone (correct me if Im wrong). The sound playback is not amazing and not premium. iPhone 6+ is better and even the Note 4 was better for playing music back through headphones.
SPEAKER QUALITY: 8/10
PLAYBACK (HEADPHONES) QUALITY: 4/10
SPEED AND OS:
The phone is faster than the Nexus 5 for normal use. I had heaps of windows open and no lag. Really smooth and the animations of the OS look great. Android 5.0 feels like they hired someone from Apple to improve the feel of the OS, without limiting your customisation options. It's great, so much better than Jelly Bean (which I'm currently using on my Galaxy Nexus). Sometimes when opening large apps (Asphalt 7: Heat) the phone slowed down noticeably. It look over 10 seconds to open this app, twice it didn't open after 10 seconds and crashed. There are some serious slow down issues with large apps here. These issues did not exist on the Note 4. In terms of everyday use - if you are coming from a stock, clean Nexus 5 - you will not notice a huge speed difference, if any. From memory the Nexus 5 was just as quick in everyday use (phone calls, text messages, accessing the gallery). The Nexus 6 might be quicker but not enough to make a lasting impression. This is just down to the RAM/Snapdragon 805 combo - yes it is the latest from snapdragon but not as snappy as the iPhone 6+ (which feels a bit more streamlined and quicker). The Note 4 felt slower than the Nexus 6 though overall, but not by much. As I said above, despite feeling a little heavier than the Nexus 6, it was faster to open apps (sometimes significantly faster).
OS: 8/10 - great step up from previous Android OS versions.
SPEED: 7.5/10 - a quick phone, but has serious slow down issues.
BATTERY:
From an hour of use I can't tell how good it is but it did dip nearly 30% from my use with it which included web browsing, photos, music playback and some video watching as well as a phone call. The call quality was normal, I didn't have a problem with it. Volume was good too (but that could just be because I was indoors with minimal environmental sounds bothering me). I can't rate the battery based on this brief amount of time with it however I do suspect that if you used this phone heavily you will not get more than 15 hours of use; screen on time of more than 5 hours - I can't see it lasting. Competitively the Note 4 that I've used lasts about 5.5 hours with heavy use and constant screen on time, the iPhone 6+ lasted well over the 6 hour mark. I was left with an impression that the battery should've could've been bigger in this phone.
CONCLUSION:
I didn't spend long with this phone but from what I can tell it was good. It was NOT worth the $970+ for the 64gb version here in Australia (delivered, off-contract price). This felt like a solid $500 phone. Yes it was overall better than the Nexus 5, but it was not that much better. It was not $570 better than the Nexus 5. Sorry to say it, but it is true. I liked it better than the Note 4 but that is because I hate TW. If the Note 4 was stock Android, the Nexus 6 wouldn't survive. The iPhone 6+ (I've never liked iOS) held its own against the Nexus 6 in terms of camera quality, screen quality, premium looks/feel and speed.
I was planning to buy three Nexus 6 phones (one for me, one for my girlfriend and one for my mother). I purchased her a 6+ because I couldn't wait around for its release. Still in the market to buy myself a new phone and my girlfriend a new phone. The Nexus 6 is not in our price range or scope. Too expensive and not enough phone for the price. If you are talking pure specs - Asian phones (VIVO etc) offer the same processor/RAM combo with 8mp FF camera with flash and 16MP rear facing camera with dual LED flash in a waterproof body thinner than 7mm with a battery 3500-3900mh. Let's ignore the OS on the Asian phones as you can easily install stock Android onto them (the Chinese dev community for them is huge) - just focusing on hardware. You are trying to tell me that some Asian manufacturer can produce overall better specs in a phone and sell for $300 cheaper (for me) than Google can? What a load of BS. Google should've tried harder and put more into it for the price. Software is good, but it fails in big departments (e.g. camera).
Yes this is a long conclusion but this is a conflicted phone. I wanted to love it and spend my money on it but for what it is, I can't do that. The stock OS is nice but not worth so much money. I don't have money to burn and so I cannot afford to burn what I have on a phone which makes me feel like they held back...more than they should have.
If you want stock Android experience I can't tell you to buy the Nexus 6 as the Nexus 5 would do the same job for you. Sure the camera and battery is worse on the Nexus 5 but I would still go with it. Hold out with that phone for a few months until the Nexus '7' (or whatever the next stock Android phone is called) gets released. The Nexus 6 just is not worth all that extra money for the upgrades it has. Good phone, nice phone, solid and I like the 6 inch screen but not nearly a $1,000 phone at all.

Interesting review. Did you try the N5 with 5.0? It runs even faster than on 4.4 and possibly loads faster than the N6 since there's no encryption, though there are still some compatibility issues with certain apps and ART which the N6 would also share.

While I appreciate your thorough and lengthy assertions it's hard to take them without a grain (large grain) of salt.

I never tried the N5 with 5.0 so I can't comment on that, just the 4.4.4 version

I used the N6 for about an hour. You didn't like my review conclusions I'm assuming...My review is exactly what I experienced in an hour of use; the only thing that I can't talk much about is the battery.
You don't need a month or even three days to be able to tell someone how a phone operates in regards to:
- Sound quality (speaker)
- Music playback quality
- Taking pictures in one location (inside room, normal lighting)
- Taking 4K video in the same conditions
- App opening speed
- Overall OS speed and basic use
- Build & Design in hand
I can give a good idea of all this in an hour. Anyone can. These are basic points which can be experienced in an hour. The sound quality is not going to change in an hour if I kept the phone for a week. It will still sound the same. The app opening speed won't change either etc.
Absolutely take with a grain of salt as this is my detailed experience with the phone, but saying a large grain is a bit crude and just sounds like you don't like my opinion of a phone you likely paid for. I didn't pay, my review is not biased in any way and I have nothing to gain from writing something negative (or positive). Will I ever own a N6? Maybe, if it becomes cheap enough or if I am gifted one. This is just not a $1,000 phone (64gb for me is about that; 32gb is about $900 shipped) - plain and simple.
I do own a Nexus 5 (since launch); as per my sig. Yes I have experience with a N5.

Didn't mean to come off as crude that is the last thing I want to sound like. I think your opinion is just that, your opinion, and I neither like or dislike it. Sorry you took my reply the wrong way. 1 hour is not enough time in my opinion, even one day would not be enough time. That is my opinion. Thanks for your input

The Moto G easily the best cheap Android phone you can buy right now. (And probably the only Android phone at this price point that delivers a user experience of this quality.) Every criticism of the Moto G has to be framed against its ludicrously low price. It’s frankly amazing that a manufacturer is able to put together a device like the Moto G for £135 and make money selling it.

Had Moto G for about 24 hours now, I am so impressed with this phone. I really want to let everyone know about it I have compared this phone a lot with Samsung S4, not because I hate it, instead it was my last phone and I have used it for months, so have a good idea of what I am on about
Screen
Some may consider the resolution on this phone being too low, compared to the high end flagship phones this is about 100 ppi less. But does this mean the screen is bad? No. In fact, I am loving it more than the AMOLED on Samsung s4. First of all, I am just going to say that above 300ppi I can't tell the difference. To me, 400+ ppi = higher battery drain + requires more CPU + requires more GPU. Just why? Maybe there are some untold benifit of higher ppi screens, but to me I just don't see any advantage what so ever. Apart from the fact you could say to your mate "my phone's ppi is higher than yours...". So this to me is a big thumb up!
Speed
Before we talk about anything else, I want to mention speed of this phone. My S4 was running stock android 4.3 means I should see a massive different when I switch to this phone. But the reality is not the case, it really doesn't appear to be that much of a difference. There may be 1/5 of a speed difference when opening apps, but that is like 0.2 seconds? Even for inpatient person like me, it is more than acceptable. At the end of the day, it make you think what Samsung is doing with their snapdragon 600, when moto g can keep up using a snapdragon 400... This is on stock android, don't even mention touch wiz... But seriously find a review video or go to a shop and see it for yourselves.
Software/ROM
Well not much to say here, it is running basically stock Android 4.3 with a few minor tweaks e.g. camera.
Storage
8gb or 16gb, it is always the question. Previously i'd say get 16gb, more future proof, however I choose 8gb this time. Not because of the 50gb gdrive storage (pointless if you have no internet connection), instead you could get OTG so if you really want to watch films on trips you can do that. Otherwise, 5.5gb is enough for general app installs. For photos, turn on auto google+ photo back up (or dropbox backup whichever fits u better) then delete the photos on your phone once they are uploaded.
Camera
Haven't really tested it, but at least ok from what I can see and don't expect it to match DSLR
Hardware/Ergonomics
+ Curved back, easy to hold. I especially like the dented "M" logo, it gives more grip, helps when I need to touch the top of the screen.
- Phone is a bit heavy, for people like reading lying down for a long time might be a bit of a pain.
+ Back cover is removable, awesome! In fact, there a lot of covers coming out soon.
- Although, back cover is hard to remove and a bit slippery, not so awesome.
+ Volume key & power key on the same side.
- Clean design, coming from HTC and Samsung, I really enjoy this kind of simple design. I don't like the HTC/Samsung logo on the most obvious place on your phone kinda ruins the look of the phone.
+ No physical keyboard (some may consider this to be a minus instead of a plus), I am just glad don't need to worry about menu wearing out over time
- Speaker on the back side of the phone
+ Due to curved back, no speaker sound is actually trapped when you place it on the back
+ Both headphone port and micro-usb port are located middle of top and bottom side of the phone respectively, again just simple and nice to look at
- No 4G connectivity. Not a problem for me, as I don't even get 3G where I live, a lot of people living in cities might find this some what a deal breaker.
- No removable battery
- No expandable storage
Battery Life
All i am going to say is 4.5 hours screen on time, 60% left. :good: I am not convinced the stats is accurate, so testing it right now to see if it is really that good.
Update: second time, 4hours22min screen on time, 8 and half hours on battery, 43% remaining.
FM Radio
I was never a radio fan, always thought it was kinda out-of-date technology. Then I moved to an area where there are hardly any 3g/2g coverage at all on the way to work, karma i guess... You might say just download music from google music/sportify, but I don't change my songs frequent enough and it just gets old. Conclusion: always better to have a phone that has FM radio than a phone that doesn't.
Notification light
It is plain silly to me why some OEM would even consider not include a notification light on their phone. *cough* iphone. *cough* windows phone. It make things so much easier, when all you need to do is glance at it rather than turn on the screen, then turn it off again just to check if your missing anything important. There is no more needs saying, it is just playing annoying without one, so another plus.
Value for money
For most of the people, money is a key factor when buying a new phone. Even if the price is not a burden, you might still get the same feeling as me, thinking it cost quite a lot and make the promise to use it for 2 years or more. Well, with this phone you won't get that. In fact, I brought mine thinking I will use it as a back up phone since no other phone has its spec in its price range. But after I started using it, I couldn't put it down. Now I am not even considering getting nexus 5 which was going to be my main phone.
What I look forward to
Hell this is XDA, obviously I want lots and lots of ROMs XD. But I also can't wait for 4.4 to come out and ART to be stable. I imagine it would make this phone even faster. Saw some comparisons between Dalvik and ART, have to say ART wins hands down especially considering it is still in development stage.
Final thoughts
So happy with this phone, and mostly happy about Motorola stepping up and giving us this product. This is important in the sense, they are fighting a price battle for us, the consumers. We should show some support to let the other OEMs know it is not about how much they spend money on advertising, it is giving us a great product with a reasonable price instead of throw in some latest chips and mark it £599 rubbish which is basically what is happening right now.
Tips
I would recommend everyone get this phone, and get the 8gb version. Since it cost so little, no one could moan at you when you get a new phone next year

me some of the specifications seem similar.
i guess only the experienced users can actually advice

In trying to figure out how this works because 2000mAh isn't even that big for a 4.5" screen.
For instance my Galaxy Note has a 5.2" screen which is roughly 10% bigger but has a 2500mAh battery which is 20% bigger. At best I've been able to get 5h SOT which is everything low or off, usually I get 3-4 which I consider decent because the nexus 5 gets around 3-5h SOT and has a similar size screen and battery.

The Note had a 5.3" screen.. That makes screen 38% bigger.
Also, the software makes a difference. And maybe the Snapdragon 400 is more efficient than the Exynos used by Samsung
I was going to say, your maths is a bit off there at 10%. You need to look at the area, not the diagonal length.
If you think back to when 4.5" screens where the norm on top end devices, most batteries were less than 1600mAh. The Desire HD for example had about 1300mAh I think.

....software optimization can go a long way, Motorola has compared the Moto G’s performance with the Samsung Galaxy S4, when performing minor tasks. Despite Moto G’s mid-range SoC, lower amount of RAM and less powerful graphics chip, the handset apparently manages to make a call 1.1 seconds faster than the Galaxy S4, it answers a call 1.2 seconds faster, returns home 0.5 seconds faster and boots up 5.3s quicker too....

Let's look at the numbers,
The Galaxy Note has a 1280x800 @5.3 inch screen -> 4.49" × 2.81" = 12.62in²
The Moto G has a 1280x720 @4.5 inch screen -> 3.92" × 2.21" = 8.65in²
-> The Galaxy Note has a screen 45.9% larger than the Moto G
-> The Galaxy Note also features a battery 25% larger than the Moto G
Remember, that the 4.5 and 5.3 numbers are the diagonal size and do not linearly represent relative screen sizes
The Moto G has a better (battery:screen size) ratio than the Galaxy Note.
How have you found the vibration motor on it? - to anyone who has one in hand yet.
The one in my Skate seems to make more noise than movement :laugh:

5x - Hugely Disappointed

I recently went out of my way to purchase a 5x (MDA89E) by driving 40 odd miles to a carphonewarehouse store that I knew had it in stock (after having called them). Yes I'm crazy, but I just LOVED the nexus 5, even though I had my main gripes and complaints and issues with different production models etc, I did eventually manage to obtain a model that was perfect.
But anyhow, I have been thoroughly excited since the news of the 5x. But once having used the device for the most part of 2.5 days, I'm hugely disappointed.
The same magic android experience I felt immediately with the nexus 5 just is not there with the nexus 5x. It feels incredibly cheap and plastic, and the finish is not as precise or robust feeling as the Nexus 5. The black model doesn't have the same matt back as the nexus 5.
I am very pleased with the screen and the finger print sensor is rapid and the camera is better than the nexus 5, but apart from that, everything else is sub bar.
This is the first ever google android device that I have EVER owned whereby I have experienced a laggy experience and lag in general.
I never experienced any lag on the nexus 4, nexus 5 or the nexus 6. But the 5x, I am experiencing strange frequent lag, even whilst just generally surfing the net using chrome.
The webpages stutter, the scrolling from top to bottom on a webpage frequently lags and I am completely unsatisfied with the experience as a whole. Switching between certain apps like the camera app and the snapspeed app, I experience a strange delay for a few seconds.
I have compared this to the same apps on my nexus 5 and my nexus 6 and unfortunately I am yet to experience any lag at all. Not a single experience.
My second major complaint with the handset is the Audio.
Google and LG should be embarrassed with the Audio they have incorporated into the nexus 5x, and to be quite frank, it is unacceptable. The Audio is incredibly tinny and low powered, even worse than the nexus 5.
Plugging in headphones makes it even worse. My nexus 5 is louder with headphones plugged in.
Again, let me reiterate that this is completely unacceptable, considering handsets like the Motorola moto g (2015) and the moto x play have superb audio and are also priced cheaper. (I know the screens arent as good as the 5x and they don't have a finger print sensor, but my family members have both, and the android experience on these handsets have been sublime). Though incredibly underpowered compared to the 5x, they run smoother after a comparison last night!?!??!!!
I know this 5x is classified as a cheaper alternative to cater to the budget market, but £340 is not cheap, when the moto g is priced at £149.99 and the moto x play priced at £279.99 (argos).
I really feel google is not catering to the main element of owning a smartphone, and that is the media experience.
And I will also add that they aren't even catering to the main functionality of a phone itself, which is the actual call quality, which again, is abysmal and unacceptable for a device that is priced at £340.00. I can barely increase the volume enough to hear the other person in a call, and everybody I have spoken to during a call has asked me why i sound muffled??
I'm sorry to be sounding negative, but I was expecting a step up from the nexus 5, Not a step down with a better screen and an added fingerprint sensor.
This is unacceptable and I am contemplating returning the device. Hugely disappointing and totally unexpected from google.
When the nexus 5 was released, it had, at the time, the best specs at an extremely competitive price.
The 5x is mid range specs, a good screen and a finger print sensor/camera, but a regression in usability and functionality. I cannot use this phone for media. To watch or listen to music and videos etc during my daily commute or to have important telephone conversations in a public environment. If Im in a closed room with no other noise around, then yes, it is just about acceptable, but even low for smartphone standards.
I guess I wouldn't complain as much if everything was flowing utterly smooth like I expect from a google stock android device, but it isn’t. It doesn't. I have no idea why.

I find it interesting that your review of this device is different from all the reviews I have heard. Maybe you could have a faulty device or preproduction OS? Just seems odd, I will keep my eyes out for more people to confirm but I have heard the opposite from so many people.

If the call quality is really like this, then I will be also considering returning it... Most of the reviews were saying that the call quality is OK, I think I found one that were complaining about it...
I have ordered the 5X and cancelled more times than I am going to admit. Right now I am waiting. It seems like maybe this device would be good if you're coming from a Nexus 4 but if you currently own a Nexus 5 or 6 it really isn't much of an upgrade...certainly not worth $430. Hopefully Google goes with a smaller premium model next year.

But my last order locked into processing right away, and ill have it tomorrow. Going to be comparing it with my 96gb Moto X Pure.
My order is currently cancelled (for "only" the 2nd time) and I have been wary about the published reviews that are lukewarm at best. I guess what I'd really like is a 6p the size of the 5x. Have to wait and see more reviews on the forums...

I find it interesting that your review of this device is different from all the reviews I have heard. Maybe you could have a faulty device or preproduction OS? Just seems odd, I will keep my eyes out for more people to confirm but I have heard the opposite from so many people.

Droid Life compared the 5X to the 6P on their podcast, and said the 5X was noticeably more laggy than the 6P, and when double tapping the power button the launch the camera, it took significantly longer to do so on the 5X. They also mentioned battery life is average.
Maybe i could have a faulty unit. I remember the nexus 5 early production units had a few screen issues etc.
But i never remember ever experiencing lag on any previous nexus devices. This doesn't feel like a nexus buttery smooth device. It feels more similar to a device that is using a marshmallow stock rom.
I don't mean to be super critical, but the nexus 5 was a really amazing pure android butter smooth rapid fast lag free experience. I still love that phone, even to this day! Just because of the responsiveness and speed, it sort of cancelled out the negatives of the poor battery life etc
But my experience with the 5x isn't the same. It's not smooth and stutter free like how I've come to associate nexus devices to be.
Do you think I should request an exchange to see if it just isn't my unit or should I run a full reset and install everything again. This is the third day with the device, but frankly, I just feel a bit let down.

I won't deny, the finger print sensor is first class. It's so rapid and class leading. The screen is vibrant and nice. Colors appear in great contrast, but not over saturated and vivid compared to the nexus 6 amo screen.
The camera is a huge step up.
But, for example, the vibration motor is really weak. They should have improved this. They should have improved the audio/media sound quality and the call audio quality. It makes sense if other cheaper alternatives can, why cant google?
Even lg's budget lg g3s and g4s have really decent audio and sound/call quality, as do the moto g, and moto play and especially the moto style.
Audio is hugely important, as is sound quality and call sound quality. This is what makes the media experience immersive when using a smartphone. I don't expect htc m8 or nexus 6 speaker quality, but then i don't expect quality so sub bar, that it's neigh on embarrasing, for a handset valued by google at £340.
I have just read a thread about using the phone with the charger plugged in causes lag.. I have been doing this but only in the morning and the evening. Not during my commute.
I really need to decide whether i should exchange or just return.
But overall, this doesn't feel like the usual nexus magic I've become so used to.

All reports that I've seen show that opening the camera on the 5x is laggy. Everything else seems to be smooth.

I can also tell, even by looking at the 6P, that all the emphasis on design, software, user experience etc has been directed towards this model as opposed to the 5x, which is a total shame. Its like those who prefer the small form factor are literally ostracized and classed as second class citizens with a marked down substandard experience.
The 6P will undoubtedly offer the truer next gen nexus android experience. I can tell, it will be totally smooth as silk and lag free

That doesn't surprise me! touch wiz is just generally awful. Any nexus device would be a huge improvement on that front!
But can you honestly say you're not taken back by the lackluster sound quality/audio and the call quality of the 5x in comparison to the s6 edge? the quality of the vibration on the vibration motor?

It always surprises me how people complain about the audio on smartphones. It is impossible for any smart phone to have good audio when you have a speaker the size of an M&M, it's simple physics, they are all just degrees of rubbish really. That's why they have a headphone socket and Bluetooth, so we have options to stream to a speaker that stands some chance of providing full range sound :good:
In terms of performance, worth trying a reset, but you may have a faulty phone, could you try one in a phone shop and see how they compare? I can see no difference in performance between mine and the older 5, the speed is mostly governed by the animations and both phones are slowed down enough navigating around by the "smoothness" that CPU speed differences really isn't noticeable in use. You could have a super computer running Marshmellow and it would still be the same speed due to the animations. If you really want a performance boost pop into Developer settings and turn of the animations, it's miles faster then, but then the 'butter smoothness' is gone. Funny how Google have made slowing down the UI something we perceive as better performance.

When I'm talking about the sound quality, I am literally talking about the quality of headphones plugged into the device. Its so embarrassingly low on the 5x its unbelievable that google and lg would see this as fit for purpose when it obviously is not.
I just got mine and I am superbly disappointed of it comparing to my Galaxy S6. Anyone compared the 5X to the 6P yet in terms of OS performance, speaker quality, camera, etc?

What are you disappointed with? The S6 is a much higher level phone than the 5X so I would expect it to be a downgrade in almost everything but software. I don't think Google has shipped at 6P's yet to end users to compare.
It's kinda funny that people are saying it feels and looks cheap. People must forget what others said about the nexus 5 when it came out.. That it looked boring, cheap, that nothing about it stood out.. I mean after the beautiful nexus 4 people were expecting a 5 that was premium like the 4.. And look what happened... That became the most loved nexus of them all so far..

Trust me when I say that the phone is hard plastic. Like literally.
The moto X play feels more premium and that's a cheaper handset.
The nexus 5 wasn't as aesthetically pleasing to the eye like the nexus 4, but holding the nexus 5, it felt nice, especially the soft touch matte back.
The 5x is just straight up hard plastic.

I need your opinion!

So,
My boss recently told me that I was required to use a company phone. This was back in July when the best possible Android phone, among the options I had, was the Galaxy S6.
I thought about an iPhone for some time, but couldn't find a reason to switch to the Apple environment as I dont have a Macintosh and I find iOS "too simple" and had no alternative to Tasker, which I use on a daily basis.
This left me with the Galaxy S6, which I'm a little disappointed with.
The private phone that I was forced to leave behind was the Moto X 2014 equipped with CyanogenMod. Even with the stock rom, the Moto X 2014 performed WAY better than the Samsung GS6 in almost every aspect (in my opinion).
I've talked to the MDM admin about using a Motorola Nexus 6 at home to receive emails off my regular schedule along with using a private phone off the MDM system again and he's OK with that.
The reasons why I dislike the GS6:
1) The GS6 is laggy in many occasions. It seems as if the CPU throttles from time to time especially when I try to cast something from Chrome to my 1st generation Chromecast.
2) The physical front buttons... come on. And why does Samsung insist on reversing the button order compared to the rest of the Android phones?
3) The GPS is rarely accurate. It tends to jump between locations, especially when I'm in a rush.
4) TouchWiz and all of its included, "non-disable-able" apps, is trash.
5) Why the blue and no black color?
6) I hate it when manufacturers oversaturate their displays. Even when I've toned the display down, the GS6 is slightly oversaturated.
7) When on MDM and using Knox, the mail client eats up my battery even when it's set to sync once ever 12h.
8) The fingerprint reader is sometimes slow and when Smart Unlock is enabled, I'm forced to swipe instead of using the fingerprint (I know this is a silly reason).
The only reasons why I'm hesitating:
1) I'm used to the size of the Moto X 2014, GS6, etc. The iPhone 6S Plus dimensions are OK in my opinion. Will the Nexus 6p be too large for my taste?
2) I like the option of having an IR blaster in my phone, even though I rarely use it.
3) Is the build quality equal or almost equal to the GS6?
4) The camera should be almost equally as good as the GS6, am I right?
5) I have no idea if Snapdragon 810 v2.1 is overheating. I've heard no opinions on the Nexus 6p.
6) Paying approx €500 ($530) for a new phone which specs are similar to the GS6 is expensive. Is it reasonable in this occasion?
Thanks for reading my wall of text. Now, please let me know what your opinions are. Should I buy hte Nexus 6p and why is it better than the GS6 in your opinion?
To be honest the GS6 is a pretty good phone and the only thing I can complain about it is bloatware, iffy finger print sensor, touchwiz, and no front facing speakers. I've had my GS6 for about 4 months. I'm getting the Nexus 6P because it hit everything on my feature wish list for an overall badass device. Yes there are gripes about it as well but not nearly as much as the GS6. I am getting my Nexus 6P delivered today so I'm really anxious to get off work and set it up. I will have to get used to the size because I never had a phablet but I'm pretty sure I'll manage. I'd say based off all of the reviews, it's well worth the purchase!

I've never owned a Samsung device myself, but I can tell you about the Nexus 6P side, responding to your hesitation list in order:
1) The size is quite large, but coming from a device (DROID MAXX) smaller than the GS6, I've had no problems.
2) Never had an IR blaster, but I don't even watch much on a TV.
3) The build quality is superb and the defect complaints seen on the forums are pretty rare.
4) The camera quality is pretty much the same, but debatable. GS6 has OIS so videos will always be better than the Nexus in terms of shakiness.
5) I've experienced zero heat problems with the Nexus 6P and that's the general consensus I've seen.
6) If you can recoup some losses by selling an old device, I would probably switch. Otherwise, I would probably wait, there's lots of cool exciting tech on the horizon that you might wish you waited for and if you pay for a new device out of pocket right now you won't have the cash to buy it!
A couple more notes:
- This phone is snappy and I've not seen a single performance hiccup thus far.
- The Nexus 6P also has a very saturated display, but you can desaturate it some in the developer settings with sRGB mode. AMOLED displays tend to be more saturated, for better or worse, but I like it!
- You may also need to consider that the Nexus 6P doesn't support wireless or Qualcomm Quick Charge, and uses USB Type-C, so you'll likely need to purchase all new cables and chargers.
This phone arena side by side may help compare all the details!

Also, taking into consideration that you can't root the GS6 (work phone, right?) and no viable/good roms for it, I will say the N6P is the way to go. I moved from the OnePlus One with the works (root, CM12.1 and other mods) and I couldn't be happier. The N6P is really responsive and I am only missing a couple of mods, mostly out of habit, meaning I just have to do a couple of more taps to get some things done. I don't think the size of the phone will be much of a problem, especially with the finger print reader on the back, which you'll be used to within an hour.
The Nexus 6P is VERY big. But it is future proofed. USB type C port, updates directly from Google. More stable, lighter and cleaner UI. Excellent finger scanner. Top end camera on par with Note 5 and iP6s+. Superb speakers on my unit. Very bright display, not as bright as my Z3 but as bright as my iP6+ or a hair darker. Battery life ranges unpredictably from average to VERY good. Design... Very unique is a good place to start and marrying that with attractive materials and aesthetics makes it a winner in my book.
Do you need a company phone or a root phone. Nexus is never good idea for company phone.

The fingerprint reader will be the least of my problems. I really dont understand why it has to be placed as a physical home button on the GS6.

I'm thinking the same thing. I dislike everything but the metal frame and daylight photo quality about the GS6. I will most likely swap. (I placed the order three weeks ago for a discount price, but am thinking about cancelling or at least postponing the purchase)

Not sure why they skipped out on OIS. I just noticed my GS6's OIS in action yesterday. It's a great feature but I guess I can live without it. Can you double press the power button from sleep to open camera?

Future proof with USB type C, but it still uses USB 2.0. I understand this in a way, as people rarely transfer stuff via cable, but still. I really like all the features though. Especially being stock android and updated more frequently.
The damn MDM admin just let me know that he pre-purchased a 128GB Nexus 6p for himself to try out Android for Work. I wasn't allowed one but was instead offered by my boss that they would take half the cost of a 32GB Nexus 6p without taking ownership of the phone.
Baaah, I can't decide. Wait for the MDM admin to become tired of his new toy or buy my own. I want a new phone to play with!

A few stand-out features it has:
- Ambient display (although not as sensitive as the Moto version)
- A notification LED (optional in settings)
- Front facing stereo speakers (loud and good quality)
- 120 or 240 FPS slow motion video capture
- Laser autofocus for quick photo focusing
- Super quick finger print scanner
- 8MP selfie camera that is higher resolution than most right now
- Always listening OK Google support (not sure if it's the hardware or Marshmallow, but it doesn't eat much battery)
- And of course, Android 6.0 Marshmallow with monthly security updates, and the latest versions in the future
That's all I can think of off the top of my head!
I love the 6p but I'd say don't get it. Not for any of the reasons you mentioned but because phones with the snapdragon 820 are coming in a couple months and if half the hype is true it's worth the wait.
My old Nexus 5 took a digger. If it hadn't I'd have waited.

Very true. Ask things considered it's been an insignificant year for phones. The 810 that's in the 6p has been out a bit and even then it's based on old tech and isn't a big upgrade from what came before it. The 820 is. The 6p is without a doubt one of the best phones out and I bought it because I think it's THE best available despite it's low price. However, there's really nothing new or extraordinary about it.

2. Those stereo speakers are sublime. Better than iP6+, Z3, Note 3 and 4. Besides... their front firing.
3. Probably the BEST front facing camera available! That's if you're into that sort of thing. Tell the ladies.

In what way is the ambient display unreliable? Do you have an example?
How often do you actually notice the throttling compared to non-vanilla phones?

There is always a reason to wait. Especially when I have a phone in the same spec segment, however, I'm really concerned if I have the patience to stick with the SGS6 after being terrible in almost every way.

I'll make this short, I got the OPO back in late Summer 2014, after replacing my damaged HTC One M8 ( which I LOVED, and converted to GPE ) The Kit Kat ROM's were awesome on the OPO, giving me like crazy 7h Screen On time, I liked the shape and design of the phone, it sort of seemed like a Nexus 5-1/2, the Nexus phone Google would have made after the Nexus 5, if they didn't go Motorola. The OPO has a sort of Galaxy Nexus + Nexus 5 combo design going on, in a good way.
Yeah I hate OPO's invite system, and all the BS within the company, and to be honest the OnePlus Two does ZERO for me, I have no interest in that phone whatsoever. Seems like a side grade at best to the OPO. Plus not a fan of the SD810, so put me down as a OnePlus Two hater
Since I bought the OPO I have had the iPhone 6 Plus ( Jailbreaked, just to try out a big iPhone and the JB scene, but iOS blows IMO, ran back to Android less than a month later ) Then I bought the Nexus 6 which I liked a lot, especially stock Android and AOSP ROM's, but the Nexus 6 was really crossing that border for me size wise, just too wide. And now I currently have the Note 5, running a good custom ROM. The Note 5 surprised me, as I typically don't like Touchwiz, but with a good ROM, it really is fast and smooth, and of course the screen and camera are #1.
My point here is, I still kept my OnePlus One as a back up phone, but for a long while was left in a drawer for months, so I dusted it off, and installed Sultan's CM13 ROM, and holy ****, I forgot how much I liked this phone, and the stockish vanilla Android type OS of CM13 vs. Touchwiz is so nice. I am SIM swapping between my OPO and Note 5 every few days, I really like the OPO still, even compared to my Note 5. Yes of course the Note 5 is a better phone no doubt. But here's something special about this OPO, like the old EVO 4G thanks to XDA that lived on a very long time, this OPO is one of those few special phones, with the help of the great development community will live a long life. Plus the hardware is still pretty fast in the OPO, it's not like a slow turtle or something.
I hated the OnePlus Two, but the One X really surprised, looks like a great phone. I am very optimistic on the OnePlus Three now, if they can design it sort of after the One X, similar build quality and design, but with the SD820 + 4GB RAM, with a 5.5" screen, and keep the price around the $400 range or so, it could be another killer phone.
Since 2007 I have owned 4 phones (N95, HTC Desire, Galaxy Nexus, OnePlus One), you have managed that in the time i've had my OnePlus One lol.
Not enough changes even every two years to really justify a new phone these days, I still consider the OnePlus to be one of the best phones out today. Sure some phones are a bit better, however for me the battery life is amazing, the phone is really fast, has a nice camera and plenty of storage. I personally don't need anything else!
I'd personally be happy using the OnePlus as my main phone for another couple of years yet!
I used to say the same thing until i moved to a Nexus 6 some time ago. Only then i could see what an average phone the OPO is.
I still have my OPO but i see no point in using it.

Yes. In normal day usage its average per comparison.
The screen is worst, i have actually better battery on the Nexus, better feel on the hand, larger screen, better official support, better community, better roms, better hardware, fast charging, wireless charging, dude the list goes on.
The opo is an average phone in comparison with the Nexus.
That's why mine is on the drawer, getting dust. If it was a better phone i would be using it and not the Nexus.

Then you suddenly remember, (for me in Australia anyway) my OPO was $413 shipped, a Nexus 6 (not 6P) now is $849, and when they were the "latest Nexus" they were $949. And in the US the OPO is $299 and the N6 is $699... So looking at that, the Nexus 6 has a bigger screen (higher resolution, but bigger, so doesn't really matter anyway..), fast charging (eh can charge my OPO from 0-90% in just under 60 minutes anyway so..), clearly didn't have the bamboo back in regards to better feeling in the hand, better community is completely subjective to the user, as is better ROM's, better hardware is again subjective. The OPO has a better camera (5mp front vs 2mp) and can record in up to 1440p on the front camera, and 4K DCI on the back, not just 4K UHD. Battery life is again, subjective, but with a slightly bigger battery but a larger screen I expect the difference to be negligible at best. The OPO and N6 have the same amount of RAM. The processor, is better, but more importantly the GPU, but then with the 1440p screen the GPU needs to be considerably better.
I'd say average is an overstatement.

In the US the Nexus 6 is going for between $300 - $350 for the 64GB at the moment, the prices have really gone down cause of the 6P. Just a correction with the pricing. In my country it goes for $500 for 32GB Nexus 6 cause they're really rare

Nowdays, didn't said when the opo got released. Ofc the Nexus 6 was a very expensive device, it is also a more premium device.
Nowdays the opo is average and the Nexus is way, and i put WAY better and fairly the same price. I saw no point in paying full price when the Nexus 6 got out but nowdays you can have a top notch phone for less than 300 bucks.
And all the rest is just you making peanuts based on nothing, the Nexus as far as my experience goes is way better. You are trying to justify based on nothing.
As i have both i can opinate. Battery life is better on the Nexus, you can read reviews and shiz but they cant properly compare devices. I was getting under 5 hours of sot with my opo and i get over 5 hours now with just a kernel flashed. So, no, its not just negligible because you saw the battery numbers.
I dont like wood backs, and i do not need that for a phone to feel better. I have that stock on the Nexus 6. The metallic ring does wonders, no wood back can do that.
Also the camera, i'm sorry but everyone who says the opo camera is better is out if his mind. They both have average cameras but the Nexus is better, i can take better low light photos and HDR+ makes all the diference when capturing this, also ois helps, things that, wait, do not compute hardware side on the opo. The front facing camera performs equally better for the tasks i use it for, unlocking and some hangouts. Hell i can say the Nexus front camera doesnt do so much miss and run unlocking, but can be software side changes also. And im not even going to talk about the horrible halo effect due to the flash over exposing on the opo camera, i tried every single camera app/rom to avoid this but every one failed, the one that the halo was less noticeable was sultans ROM due to the changes be made to the hal. But even then i could notice some over exposure when using flash on dark places.
Moving on..
The screen isnt just bigger its BETTER. Better and noticeable contrast ratio, collors, deep darks, higher res that is noticeable, and yes, bigger.
The gpu isnt marginaly better, its awsomely better on the Nexus. The same games i used to get sutters on the opo doesnt sutter on the Nexus, its not just bechmarks, even pushing a way lot more pixels.
Also the sound, i forgot to mention. No point arguing here, the Nexus isnt boomsound but its a world better than the opo. Front fireing speaks are way better than bottom ones. You dont even know what you are loosing until you try it.
So, yes, nowdays the opo is average. Im sorry if you have to justify you have a top notch phone because you havnt. There are way better alternatives nowdays.
PS: Fast charging does make diference, i dont know you try to dismiss that as a very positive point. And i can also wireless charge it, but i guess thats just comodities that i like to have.

"top notch" is definitely an arguable claim, the camera was, less than stellar on the Nexus 6 and the hardware has aged with 64-bit now in play, alongside the new Snapdragon 808 and 810.

? I do have the Nexus 6 and OPO? So, I can and will justify what I said on the fact that I have both devices.
As I have both I can opinionate, on KitKat I got 6-7h SOT consistently on LTE, and 8-9h SOT Wi-Fi without a problem, Lollipop in it's early days decreased that number to 3.5-4.5h LTE, 4-5 Wi-Fi however on my current ROM (Sultan's CM12.1 stable) I consistently get 5-6h SOT easy every day on 3G (at home so I don't have Wi-Fi and can't test). So yeah, battery life is much better compared to my 6, which gets maybe 3.5-4.5h SOT on stock rooted with FK on LTE, and max 5.5H SOT with Wi-Fi low brightness etc.

Again, I think that feeling completely comes down to personal preference. To be honest I don't particularly like metal phones, I own a slew of devices (Z3 Compact, Z5 (gave to Dad), Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 2, Moto X 2013, Moto X 2014, Nexus 6, OPO, Nexus 5, HTC One M8 (sold to brother), HTC One M9(gave to Mum)) and I hands down prefer a plastic phone to metal, I don't know why but I just don't like the feel of metal, the S6 is okay, but phones like the M8 and M9 I can't handle, and the N6 was borderline for me.
But I do understand that I am in the minority so whatever.

The OPO on Sultan's ROM has an incredible camera, using the Snapdragon Camera app or Camera FV-5 (fixes the "horrible halo" in manual mode, however I really don't use the flash anyway..) I can consistently take a photo that I am happy with, I mean it's no S6, but it by no means takes bad photos either. Why the Nexus 6 does have a good camera, the Moto G this year is using the same sensor, basically sums it up, within 12 months the camera had moved from a $700 phone to a $200 phone.

The screen on the 6 is nicer than the OPO, however I find the cool colours of the OPO actually nicer than the panel on the 6. I also have a slightly modified screen profile on my phone so that might make all the difference. Deep blacks are due to the AMOLED, and owning both AMOLED and IPS phones I do prefer IPS, however again, that is totally a personal preference thing and I understand you may think differently.

The GPU is better yes, but I don't use my phone for games, at all, never have and probably never will. So if you want to wear the better GPU crown, you totally can.

This is true as well, front facing speakers are great, but then again, I don't really use the speakers on my device, I either use my earphones, my computer which has much superior sound anyway, or Bluetooth Audio in my car, there is never really a time when I want to use the speaker on my phone. But I will say I've never had a "problem" with the sound on the OPO.

I don't need to justify that I have a top notch phone, I very well know that I have a phone that was released almost 2 years ago, and I also know that I have the means to buy any phone of my choice right now, however, the OPO is still working for me so I'd rather buy something that I am actually going to use. I'll buy the OnePlus 3 on launch, and if that treats me well then great, and if it doesn't I'll probably buy next years Nexus devices. But in the same breath, the Nexus 6 is nothing amazing, it is well over a year old now, lacks some "crucial" things for a current top-notch smartphone, being a fingerprint scanner, 64-bit to name a few.

PS: I know fast charging makes a difference, but to me, I charge my phone at night, and take it off at 7am, and put it back on at 12pm, and don't look at the battery percentage otherwise. I've used wireless charging once and thought eh and never used it again, but again, something some people want to use so whatever.

Lucky I don't live in the US. Here it is still going for $849. I also can't get the Nexus 6 from the current deals as they refuse to ship to Australia. However, looking on Swappa I can get a OnePlus One, $150-180, saw one for $180 brand new in box. I do get that for the price the Nexus 6 is a killer deal, however it's not to say that you should throw whatever you have out the window, and there are just as good a deals around for other products, like the OnePlus One.
Stock, just a kernel i get over 5 hours sot, with the same usage on the opo not even close to that. So, in my opinion way, WAY better. Adaptative brightness on the Nexus with adaptative display always on. And i can't see how your results may vary but anyway, im a believer.
Premium materiais =/= your opinion. If you think having a metal ring arround the phone doesn't make it premium keeping it light than every manufacturer must have gone to the idiot side for using those.

Im sorry but you are wrong (again), its a good app but the over exposure problem goes way deeper for a camera app to solve, it goes into a ****ty camera Hal and blobs. The sensor is good but the work done with it sucks ass. The photos low light on the Nexus are way better, normal light condition are equally better, i could post some examples but i dont have the time or need to do that. The camera api is also much better which makes you get better photos apps to take photos. Arguably i use the google camera for the HDR+ which no other camera app has and it totally makes the difference. You have no halo, less grainy photos.

Amoled pannels when used properly can help you produce better images and save power. Ips panels are good for true collor reproduction when properly calibrated, the one on the One is not. Problematic yellow tints and washed out collors, color shifting, grey mushy blacks, you name it. And no, i do not loose time messing with the settings to try and calibrate it when it was my daily driver. I only used the pre defined amoled settings on CM. The colors would pop out a bit more.
If you never had problems with the speakers on the opo you cearly do not use your phone. When im showing something to friends, and this happens allot, and we need sound for example, not giving out a pair if bt headsets to all of them. If im watching a tv show i rather have sound come from the phone, stereo sound.
I used to cover them all the time with the opo because if their bad placement. Not that it isnt better than the ones located on the back, but clearly problematic and worse.
The fast charging is needed for those who use their phones all the time. Sometimes i get home from work, i get my phone on the charger to boost its battery before going out for a coffee. Ofc if i do not use my phone, if i stay home i do not need fast charging because im close to a charger. But then again thats your problemas for not using the phone an not needing a well needed feature like fast charging. Also i installed a wireless charging pad on my car so no cables, couldnt have that before.
The rest is just peanuts, even your phone collection that you may or may not have had is peanuts to me. Im not bragging about the phones i had because when i move i move to a better one, i do not move to a crappier one.

Oneplus is a crappy company with no support, they made a successull phone due to Cyanogen. Most devs are running away from this phone which will end up with a bad version of android, a version full of problems. So im not even interested in their Oneplus X A B or 3. I did not look at the Oneplus 2 because of that same reason, its a ****ty device with the lack of a proper os.
The fingerprint reader and the 64bit are arguably good features if you need them. The 64 bit is a double sided blade, instructions on the VM can be bigger but you need more RAM to take advantage of that, maybe in some years you can see a practical bebefit for that. But even then you wont run high memory desktop apps on your phone. The fingerprint reader i would like to havê as a gimmick, does nothing on my country (no Android pay for example) and like i said i relly on having a pebble and face unlocking. Doesnt make a phone to be less of a top notch, pick your poison over the thousands of chinese phones that have those and suck ass (elephones and other crap).
Ofc you can have a different opinion but hardware/software comparison you cant deny its better. Or maybe you can trying to smooth things up with facts that are not facts with surreal opinions like saying: "oh yea i had this, that and that, and i know its supperior but im the minority thinking like this, oh well" (the i dont use the flash made me lol so hard).

Strangely enough you are the fanboy. He just stated his opinions without necessarily attacking you and you feel the need to belittle him to make your argument sound better. I don't doubt the Nexus 6 is a great phone but claiming the OPO is average makes me believe you are really poor when it comes to judgement and based on this long ass post you made you proved this to be a fact.
Fingerprint reader isn't just for Android Pay its just another convenient way to unlock that is much more secure than current implementations. I agree Oneplus is a crappy company and the only reason I bought this phone is Cyanogenmod. Not interested in any their new units OP2 and OPX cause of closed source OS. Being a heavy user doesn't make you better and doesn't make your usage or battery stats or anything better. You don't have to insult or demean someone when they were just having a discussion with you.

Fingerprint reader isn't just for Android Pay its just another convenient way to unlock that is much more secure than current implementations. I agree Oneplus is a crappy company and the only reason I bought this phone is Cyanogenmod. Not interested in any their new units OP2 and OPX cause of closed source OS. Being a heavy user doesn't make you better and doesn't make your usage or battery stats or anything better. You don't have to insult or demean someone when they were just having a discussion with you.

Yep, he's a fanboy, saw that from post #1. I've worked with both phones, and even though the N6 is really good, the OPO is still an amazing device for it's age, calling it average is just plain dumb.

I don't even care to argue about the cameras in word form, but I'll just show you some of the photos that I have taken in the last few weeks on my OPO; these images have been compressed twice, just as a side note (through Facebook Messenger because I don't have a microUSB cord on me at this moment, and then through imager.) I'd like to see if anyone is just looking at this, their thoughts on these photos, but I mean that's not required I quite like them and that's all that really matters.

I love the fact that the OnePlus One has no boot chain verification, meaning I can modify the bootloader and other partitions on the phone.

I bought new OPO even when I'm owning s6, and I had one OPO already I just love this device!! I gave my old OPO to dad! even he loves it .. ( first touchscreen phone he has ever used! )
I can do nothing more than agree! I bought the phone one and a half years ago and it still feels very nice. I don't even think about getting a new phone for now.
The OPO will also have a long support life, thanks to XDA
Have to agree with this thread. Using the OPO for about a year now. I've been bitten by the upgrade bug, but don't really have a phone which has seriously drawn me to it within a decent price range. Maybe the 6P, but it's so expensive and I don't really gain that much in terms of tangible benefit.

The screen on the Nexus is better. For all those reasons and more make them a way better panel than the one on the One. Amoled pannels when used properly can help you produce better images and save power. Ips panels are good for true collor reproduction when properly calibrated, the one on the One is not. Problematic yellow tints and washed out collors, color shifting, grey mushy blacks, you name it. And no, i do not loose time messing with the settings to try and calibrate it when it was my daily driver. I only used the pre defined amoled settings on CM. The colors would pop out a bit more.
If you never had problems with the speakers on the opo you cearly do not use your phone. When im showing something to friends, and this happens allot, and we need sound for example, not giving out a pair if bt headsets to all of them. If im watching a tv show i rather have sound come from the phone, stereo sound.
I used to cover them all the time with the opo because if their bad placement. Not that it isnt better than the ones located on the back, but clearly problematic and worse.
The fast charging is needed for those who use their phones all the time. Sometimes i get home from work, i get my phone on the charger to boost its battery before going out for a coffee. Ofc if i do not use my phone, if i stay home i do not need fast charging because im close to a charger. But then again thats your problemas for not using the phone an not needing a well needed feature like fast charging. Also i installed a wireless charging pad on my car so no cables, couldnt have that before.

What i have to say about that is, im happy with my Nexus 6 and its a well better device than the opo. It was a well needed upgrade on all meanings. Google device everyday over the opo at the moment. Oneplus is a crappy company with no support, they made a successull phone due to Cyanogen. Most devs are running away from this phone which will end up with a bad version of android, a version full of problems. So im not even interested in their Oneplus X A B or 3. I did not look at the Oneplus 2 because of that same reason, its a ****ty device with the lack of a proper os.
The fingerprint reader and the 64bit are arguably good features if you need them. The 64 bit is a double sided blade, instructions on the VM can be bigger but you need more RAM to take advantage of that, maybe in some years you can see a practical bebefit for that. But even then you wont run high memory desktop apps on your phone. Or maybe you can trying to smooth things up with facts that are not facts with surreal opinions like saying: "oh yea i had this, that and that, and i know its supperior but im the minority thinking like this, oh well" (the i dont use the flash made me lol so hard).
The Nexus 6 as the price of today is more of device than the opo, better hardware and support. If you cant even acept this its your problem. But as you would say "meh meh i dont need good hardware/software support i dont use it".

At least according to this review's measurements, the OPO's screen is better in color accuracy than the Nexus 6

And when I compare it with the same picture on my PC's IPS screen, it is pretty much comparable(the LG IPS236v produces slightly punchier reds than the OPO's screen).
Today, I will update my phone to CM13 by Sultan so I have the latest software! As a developer it's awesome to be able to get the state of the art software without restrictions.

Anyone feeling a bit let down? V20 review

I am trying to convince myself that I am wrong or somehow biased, but I don't think I am in this situation. I am a phone junkie and I bounce between devices quickly. In the last 6 months I have had the Axon 7, HTC 10 (still have, S-off'd with Unlocked GSM firmware/ software), Nexus 6P, HTC M9, s7 edge, s6 edge+, iphone 7 plus, Droid Turbo, and now the V20. I will say that over all, the V20 is built beautifully and performs well. The battery life is a bit weaker than I was hoping, just like the HTC 10, the quick charge 3.0 almost covers that short coming. The things that are making me disappointed though are as follows:
LG Skin / UI : Feels a little off, made up a bit by using Nova launcher, but everyone knows it won't remove it all...
Performance: I might be expecting a bit much, but I have had my device slow down (to unbearable lag / waiting on apps to switch/come up) more than a handful of times requiring a reboot
Battery Life: As stated above, the battery life is pretty week and I find myself having to top up a towards 6 pm, it does charge quickly, but find that a little sad.
Camera: This is where I am shocked. The camera overall doesn't live up to what I expected or how it was advertised. In ideal situations, it can take good photos, and I mean GOOD, not Great. If you don't switch to manual and tweak everything out, you will be sadly disappointed. Auto focus has a hard time locking in, can get a bit of grain / noise, and if there is movement or action, good luck. In video mode or if you flip into manual mode, you can get much better results, but in the heat of the moment, not everyone will be quick to get it ready in time to get that shot. In low light situations, it has been very disappointing. The lag time between the flash / focus and getting a picture off, I end up with a blurry out of focus picture most of the time. I am basing this off pictures I take of my young daughter. The camera on the HTC 10, Axon 7, iPhone 7 plus, S7 edge, and S6 edge+ all out perform in these situations. For a phone/device that is supposed to be built around photography and video, it has been a major disappointment. the Main camera/sensor is decent, but the zoom/cropped area is a bit small. The wide angle does cover a lot more at the cost of resolution. I am hoping that LG does something to address this in software/firmware updates, but as of now, it is a huge let down.
Audio: The single firing speaker does an admirable job for playing music, speaker phone on the other hand is a somewhat weak and sometimes hard to hear, even when driving in silent vehicle with the windows closed. The Quad DAC has also let me down. After the DAC in the Axon 7 and the HTC 10, I am not impressed. It does improve the audio, but not as well as the competition. With the DAC enabled and audio all the way up, the volume level is weak. With the same headphones that I used in the Axon 7 and the HTC 10, I have no problem hearing the outside noise. I also don't feel that it is nearly as tweakable / noticeable as the HTC 10. When I had the DAC on the HTC 10 on, I could immediately tell the difference and the Highs, Mids, and Lows were way easier to notice / spot changes on. Again, maybe software updates may resolve this, but definitely a let down for me.
Overall: The phone is beautiful. For a phone with removable battery, it honestly feels like a unibody device. I am a bit disappointed in all phone manufacturers currently going to this 2.5D curved glass for no good reason, making getting tempered glass protectors a joke majority of the time. The software overall is fairly smooth. The screen is above average and the secondary screen has become second nature to me. Being able to snap a wide angle shot when others can't definitely something that has lead to people asking me what phone I am using. Had I not gone through all the phones I have in the last 6 months, I may have been way more impressed. As a flagship device, I will say it comes close to delivering what was promised. Had the Note 7 not failed miserably with the exploding issue, I think the V20 would have easily been eclipsed. This phone gets so close in many departments, but doesn't quite nail them down. Considering there is nothing else in the market that draws my attention, I will try and see if it makes it through the initial growing pains that might be solved with software updates.
Before anyone wants to say I forgot about the Pixel, no, I didn't. After having the HTC 10 (which I still have and love as a backup device) and playing with the Pixel, I see absolutely no reason to waste the money on the sad excuse of a flagship device at the same taxing price as an apple product. How google basically took the HTC 10, made it ugly , went with onscreen buttons and a whole lot of bezel, and took away removable storage but is still succeeding with it is beyond me. Yes it has an "amazing camera", assistant (you can get with root on the v20 and nexus 6p), and can charge the battery super fast, but the price tag and lack of innovation is a deal breaker.
So, please, let me know if you agree or disagree. I have been trying to be unbiased and love this phone. Am I being unreasonable, or is it really just a device that got close to the finish line and just gave up?
I think it all depends on what your needs are. We know it doesn't have the best camera. It's very competitive, but not the best. Performance can be fixed with updates. I suspect that LG rushed the ROM to be the first to have Nougat, which was one of their selling points for this phone. Battery life depends on your usage. LG's Quantum displays are horribly inefficient, so the screen is your primary battery drain, but my understanding is that idle drain is very good. Then you have fast charging and one of the few phones that you can instantly go to 100% on by swapping batteries.
For me, this is the only phone that checks all of my requirements: Functional always-on-display, IR blaster, 5.7"+ screen, good camera, removable battery and SD card. So, I'm buying the complete package, not because it's the best at everything. Every single phone has shortcomings. You need to decide which ones you can live with and buy your next device based on that criteria.
I'm with you, I thought the camera was quite a disappointment when shooting in auto mode. I liked the phone a lot (coming from a Nexus 6p) and if the camera had been good it would have been a no-brainer for me, because as greyhulk says it checks most, if not all, the boxes. But I need a camera that shoots good pics in auto mode. Sent it back.

Settings/Developer Options/ Tick on "Force GPU Rendering" should make your beast smoother/snappier. So any kind of lag should disappear!
If root available try L Speed/Entropy/fstrim apps found on Play Store!
LG V20 & LG G5 are snappy beasts and are well optimised with the Snapdragon 820 and is better than Samsung!
Battery is my main disappointment. Even with minimal use I have only made it an entire day once. Something keeps eating battery while the phone is idle and I have yet to track it down. I suspect it is an app that needs a Nougat update. Same usage and set of apps on the S7 Edge and Note 7 would usually leave me near 50% at the end of the day.
Have to say I disagree.
The Hi-Fi is plenty loud enough and noticeably changes on the go. I have noticed though, it depends on the headphones that you are using. I have used 4 different sets. And each pair gave different results.
The camera is great. Video is turning out to be exactly as expected. As for the camera, it doesn't grab the shot in the first try every time and its nothing a tap of the screen and refocus hasn't been able to fix. But than again I haven't had a camera phone that has been able to take the shot first time every time.
Battery, that's a user to user base question. The other day I was able to get 32 hours out of my battery. But than on the other hand with very heavy use I only got 6.5 hours.
Weird I get about the same battery life as I did with my note 7. When at work I use the phone about the same amount every day 12 hr shifts and I am between. 50 to 70 percent

I think your disappointment stems from using so many current generation phones, lets face it most years the hardware upgrades (specifically processors) match each other.
The HTC 10 runs the same hardware as the LG v20, so you've experienced it already. S7 has the same processor as well (assuming its the Qualcomm version) so it's not a big difference compared to someone coming from last generation phones.
Like for me I am coming from a v10 which had an outdated processor out the gate (others were using 810 while the v10 had the 808 due to overheating issues with the 810). The phone is literally over twice as fast as the v10 so I would certainly see a difference compared to you coming from the same generation of processors.
I don't own the phone yet but I will say it's a disappointment to see the camera being a letdown in reviews when you consider that the camera was the big feature of the v10.
Battery doesn't sound all that great either but it's got to be better than the v10. I am sure this will be remedied by 3rd party extended batteries that we will hopefully see. My v10 battery sucked until I upgraded to a 9000 mAh Zerolemon battery pack.

Why's there no option for ambivalence or just predictable? Just look at the stats and you pretty much know what you're getting. I'm happy with this phone after the $200 off and assuming I get the ~$150 headphone offer. I would be unhappy for full list price without those promos. For the price w/promos there just isn't anything comparable.
The display is the worst part of this phone for me. AMOLED just beats LCD anyway you slice it, this phone looks badly washed out and the auto brightness does weird things. Also the viewing angles are wonky, I was used to being able to use my phone at extreme angles but now I find myself lifting the phone up more. If this phone had AMOLED it would be a solid 9.9/10 for me, of course I knew I wouldn't like the screen when I bought it I just couldn't find a solid AMOLED phone. I don't particularly like the fingerprint reader position, have to pick it up off a table to use it and I've found my finger accidentally turns the screen on sometimes when I put it in my pocket. The second screen is nice for changing tracks or seeing what track is playing (or seeing the time at night without going blind), but it sucks for notifications. I miss my notification LED and my Qi charging.
Other than that this phone is pretty solid. I'm getting almost identical battery life that my Note 7 got, namely about 2 days. The standby battery life is phenomenal, I usually lose 1-2% overnight even with the second screen on. I love the removable battery so I don't have to worry about the battery dying before I'm ready to get rid of the phone. I'm no audiophile, so to me this phone is the best audio experience I've ever had with a phone hands down. Even streaming at just 192kbps this phone really makes my Shure SE215's sing. The camera is noticeably worse than the Note 7 at low light but it's still the 2nd best camera on a phone I've seen. Close up pictures have lots of nice detail and that's the kind of pictures I usually take. It focuses quickly and locks focus down better than the Note 7 did. For the kinds of the pictures I take in fact this camera is better, unlike my Samsungs this phone's auto white balance mode works correctly. The whole phone feels quick and snappy, comparable to the Note. I'm getting slightly better signal than I've ever gotten, in fact the wifi is much stronger than either of my Note 7's were.
I like the look of the phone and it feels great in my hands, which although not as great as the all glass Note 7, it feels like I could drop it and have nothing to worry about. I don't find the UI intrusive or laggy, eventually I'll swap over to nova prime once I'm tired of stock. For me it ticks all the right boxes of keeping old features rather than heading the apple direction and removing everything. Removable battery, SD card, IR Blaster, headphone jack, USB C, etc For that reason alone I think it's worth supporting LG

Main reasons I am keeping it are the $200 off, switched to T-mobile from VZW, and they are paying off the ETF so saving that money and the headphones makes the phone ideally almost free to me. For the full retail, I would return it in a heartbeat. People have hit it on the head that it really might be the fact the the Snapdragon 820 and the 4 GB ram is now getting long in the tooth. The camera can produce some nice pictures in manual mode, so I try to jump to that right away, but just a bit of a hassle to be on the ball to take a simple pic. With moderate light and close up, it does perform well. I can't really control lighting at all times and try and get my daughter up close and still when a picture moment comes though, the s7 handled it much better. I am going to try some different headphones to see if it is just the main pair I use that is letting me down. For the money / hardware, I think the Axon is the better bang for the buck with the AMOLED screen and the all carrier support. The speakers on that are ridiculous and the DAC was solid. This phone over all falls somewhere in the 7.5-8 /10 for me. Between the V20 and the HTC 10 I'll be good til the next wave of Flagships hit. I just have the feeling that LG pushed it out in a hurry to capitalize on the Note 7 flop and they could've polished it up a lot more. I can see them making the camera more responsive in low light and possibly addressing the battery life / hifi-dac customization / volume in the updates. It does a lot right but overall I was expecting and hoping for more from LG when they have had the perfect shot to grab the market. So far I am seeing the responses that seem line up with my expectation. Thanks everyone for taking the time to read and respond!

I came from the LG Nexus 5x and I loved that phone. While it's only been a few days, I am more than happy with the V20.
I get a phone through work, but upgraded on my own last year to the 5x. So when I cracked my screen a few weeks ago, I went through work this time. Options were limited on AT&T and since I'm gonna be stuck with a phone for 2 years I wanted the newest phone I could get without "compromising" what I'd wanted in a phone. I also didn't want to settle for a year old phone or switch to the iPhone (Android since 2010 and likely forever).
Anyway, I say all that to say that the V20 was never on my radar, mostly because of the size, even though I'd previously had the Note 2, 3 and briefly 4. I'd been very happy with the size and feel of the 5x, but the battery life was horrendous. Basically anything would have been an upgrade, and the V20 does more than I need in the battery department. If I can get to my bed before needing a charge, I'm a happy man, since I'd be charging around lunch on a daily basis before.
I was already used to the fingerprint sensor and love the fact it's on the back on the V20 as well. I can deal with the volume buttons swapped and the power button moving to the fingerprint sensor. It was a little odd at first but I'm used to it already.
Again, the camera and screen on the 5x was mediocre so anything would be better. And again the V20 checks both of those boxes; huge, vibrant screen, and pictures that look beautiful to my eye. If you're going from newest flagship to newest flagship an argument can be made on those points, but if you're upgrading after a year + the hardware is always going to be better, even if you find some flaws, and IMO the V20 does great in both categories.
The removable battery does have its pros. A few years ago it was a 'must-have' for me, but nowadays I'd taker water/dust proofing over it. Not a deal breaker though. The SD card slot IS however a wonderful thing. Despite the 64 GB internal, I love being able to add and not worry about space. I've had my local music library backed up to an SD card for quite a while and it's so convenient to have that at my disposal locally (no network connection needed).
The software. Not much better than PURE Android and rooting has always been a priority for me. BUT, stability ultimately is the most important thing on a phone to me now. Being able to lower DPI via adb shell is huge. Really not having TiBu or the ability to remove some carrier apps is about the worst left we can't do. And to be honest, it's easily overlooked. Is it annoying AF we can't remove everything we don't want? Absolutely. But said apps can be hidden with certain launchers, and I've come to just ignore them in the app drawer, forgetting they're even there.
Add in the FM radio (so novel yet so great), Second Screen (which I actually could use some tips on getting the most out of) and I'm digging this phone. Is LG's UI a little clunky? Yea, but I'll live. And using something new is refreshing, honestly.
It's only been a few days but I'm happy with this device and have no regrets. The V20 may also get me back on the Phablet train, being unable to use something smaller as they feel like toys. I've not gone a full 2 years without upgrading in quite some time. This phone is going to be the test.

I agree with what you say. I think my let down is from moving from flagship to flagship all into the same time frame. The coming from any device before the snapdragon 820 and a quad HD screen, this thing is a major upgrade. I agree that the fingerprint scanner is best on back... Loved it on the nexus 6p and the axon 7. I just sold my htc 10 so I'm committed to the v20. Holding out til something amazing comes this way...

The display is the worst part of this phone for me. AMOLED just beats LCD anyway you slice it, this phone looks badly washed out and the auto brightness does weird things. Also the viewing angles are wonky, I was used to being able to use my phone at extreme angles but now I find myself lifting the phone up more. If this phone had AMOLED it would be a solid 9.9/10 for me, of course I knew I wouldn't like the screen when I bought it I just couldn't find a solid AMOLED phone. I don't particularly like the fingerprint reader position, have to pick it up off a table to use it and I've found my finger accidentally turns the screen on sometimes when I put it in my pocket. The second screen is nice for changing tracks or seeing what track is playing (or seeing the time at night without going blind), but it sucks for notifications. I miss my notification LED and my Qi charging.
Other than that this phone is pretty solid. I'm getting almost identical battery life that my Note 7 got, namely about 2 days. The standby battery life is phenomenal, I usually lose 1-2% overnight even with the second screen on. I love the removable battery so I don't have to worry about the battery dying before I'm ready to get rid of the phone. I'm no audiophile, so to me this phone is the best audio experience I've ever had with a phone hands down. Even streaming at just 192kbps this phone really makes my Shure SE215's sing. The camera is noticeably worse than the Note 7 at low light but it's still the 2nd best camera on a phone I've seen. Close up pictures have lots of nice detail and that's the kind of pictures I usually take. It focuses quickly and locks focus down better than the Note 7 did. For the kinds of the pictures I take in fact this camera is better, unlike my Samsungs this phone's auto white balance mode works correctly. The whole phone feels quick and snappy, comparable to the Note. I'm getting slightly better signal than I've ever gotten, in fact the wifi is much stronger than either of my Note 7's were.
I like the look of the phone and it feels great in my hands, which although not as great as the all glass Note 7, it feels like I could drop it and have nothing to worry about. I don't find the UI intrusive or laggy, eventually I'll swap over to nova prime once I'm tired of stock. For me it ticks all the right boxes of keeping old features rather than heading the apple direction and removing everything. Removable battery, SD card, IR Blaster, headphone jack, USB C, etc For that reason alone I think it's worth supporting LG

I agree. Top tier amoled should've been here. Probably would've improved the already great battery life another 20%ish. And notification LED would've been awesome. Yeah yeah. I know we have second screen, but I don't use it. Probably why I get 6h+SOT all the time. 8h 1m was my best and I had 3% left. I get 7h+ often. Standby time is incredible. Hasn't been consistent for me but probably lose 1% about every 5h average. Need to root and get adblocking. That will probably improve battery life even more. Hoping a custom kernel with only modification of voltage settings will help too. Tired of all these unstable kernels with features I don't use or care.about. haven't stuck with a custom kernel since...maybe note2. It has been awhile. Just roll with stock kernel since no dev wants to make a simple kernel with voltage adjustments. Not paying anymore devs on kernels until they deliver. I've paid upfront twice and font nothing in return. Scumbags.and I hope the fingerprint scanner has features. Features like being able to use as track pad or minimum that uses swipes for shortcuts like the pixel. That would be friggin' awesome. And aside from camera on auto not being consistent the phone otherwise is almost flawless. I've gotten accustomed to the camera on auto though. Multiple pictures and using focus at different spots has helped tremendously. I've been able to tweak my screen close to accurate by eyeballing it so pictures look like the scenery on screen now. Got to test video and bi def recording today at veterans day parade. Both exceeded my high expectations. Just need slmevody to find binning of chips which I made a dedicated thread for but nobody answered. I've looked everywhere. And one of first things I do when I root is customize the boot up screen. Boring. Very boring and.typical of T-Mobile. I've only had to reboot for sim or micro SD reasons though. Very very stable. Micro SD isn't up to par unless I have root. Nonetheless I've been able to work around it. Just had to take care out. And everybody keeps saying IR blaster. I think our IT is a transceiver. Supposedly it can learn but I haven't tried yet. R.I.P. remotes if it indeed can learn. LG did good. Seems rushed but this is truly a flagship phone in many ways. Swappable battery in 2016on a flagship. Say what? LG needs to step it up on the accessories. Ready to buy a 6 pack of batteries. I got in on the $51 deal for the BCK-5200 package on Amazon. Now just need a good sale on batteries.
Coming from a note 7 I have mixed feelings. It ticks a lot of the boxes but I miss waterproof, the great samsung screens and I knew about those when I bought. The camera really disappointed me though. I was expecting it to take way better pics than it does. Spoiled from the note 7 I suppose. I didn't realize before buying it that it had the IR blaster and I had really been missing that from my s5. Nice to not have to hunt for remotes anymore. Its not ideal, but for someone like me that over 5.7" screen is a requirement it really is the best second choice to my old note 7. The bootloader sucks too. I had gotten out of the habit of reroming phones since samsung pay and now that I am off samsung I thought it would be fun to start that again. But nope. I have a sprint one and it seems to be non rootable at the moment.

I do think a little bit of my dissapointment in the camera is not genuine. I am mainly comparing shots taken with this phones camera viewed on this phones screen to shots taken by the note 7 on the note 7's screen. The same photo would of course pop more on the amoled screen even if it was the same camera so thats part of the disappointment. But even still I think the note 7 took way better pics.
I love the phone other than no root, the camera I'm not really disappointed because I'm no photographer, the IR blaster is a must thank you LG, Samsung what are you thinking. The removable battery isn't a big deal since the battery does pretty good. If it was water proof that would top it off.
