Anyone coming from Samsung flagships?

Hi all, I'm currently using the Galaxy S5 and looking to upgrade to the G4. Anyone has switched to the G4 from Samsung's high end phones like the S6 or the Note 4? Can you give some impressions and comparisons (Camera (most important), screen, performance)? Thanks a lot!

From Note 4.... The G4 should crush the S5 except water resistance

I did it after one month with s6 edge, battery in s6 edge is so bad, other things are ok and almost identical, no lags on both phones. Camera is identical.

I came from the S5 to the G4 and haven't even had a second thought on going back
Camera is amazing. UX 4.0 beats Touchwiz (in my opinion better than S6 as well, my wife has that). Just takes some getting used to the no "hard" home buttons and the power/volume buttons on the back rather than the side but once you do it's actually more convenient knowing a case can protect them even more and are less susceptible to being damaged

Note 4 to G4 here. So far, seems better in all aspects. Only one it might not beat the Note 4 in is battery, but I haven't had for long enough to really see how it averages. Camera is better. UI seems cleaner and easier to use. Love double tap on, as I was used to it with the HTC M8 and missed it on the Note 4. Only weird thing I had to get used to was in the cam app, the 3 software buttons don't show up (have to hit the back button in the camera view).
LG really did well with this phone

I made same switch. And yeah, the G4 does seem to have just slightly better performance.

I'll post more as I get to use phone more. Just got yesterday. So far, it's really nice. I had almost written LG off after the Optimus G. Glad I didn't. So far:
PROs for G4 vs Note 4
Lighter. Also noticeably smaller despite screen being almost same size.
Better Camera
UI - UX 4.0 really is nice and light
No Keyboard FCs! Man that was annoying in Lollipop Note 4...keyboard FC but stayed on screen, had to reboot to get rid of
Double tap on and Knock unlock code
Themes
Settings app broken down into proper sections (Note 4 Settings scrolls all day with all settings on a single scrolling list)
Can get a real Glass Screen Protector without the dreaded Halo effect around all edges (Note 4 curved edge to screen caused this no matter which glass protector I used (tried 6).
64 bit processor
Faster in real world use
Cool offers of free stuff from LG
About $200 cheaper

Stylus (I only used a handful of times....was more of a gimmick to me)

Switched over from a Samsung Galaxy S4...I traded it in for $100 to At&T so my G4 only cost me $99 + tax on my upgrade option. Loving it so far, praying for root to get rid of the bloatware. :fingers-crossed:

I did. I have the S6e at home and I intend to switch back and fourth. The G4 feels so much bigger. The camera quality is NOT the same and I have tested them both in the same scenarios. The s6 is brighter and crisper than the G4. Stock launchers is far better and faster than TW. TW began to lag on my S6, so I installed Nova Prime and it was super fast again. Battery on the G4 is 10 times better than the S6. I got 36 hrs on my G4 and still had 25% left.

I came from a rooted Note 3. First non-phone-specific: I REALLY REALLY miss root. The ability to block ads is missed and I have to wait to restore all of my titanium backups that I have sitting till the G4 is rooted.
As far as performance goes, my Note 3 was pretty snappy. I haven't noticed very many differences in performance yet. But I've been waiting for the battery to get a few cycles before I really start pushing performance with games and stuff.
Other than that, I don;t really miss my Note 3. The G4 is smaller, looks nicer has a better (but only slightly smaller) screen. I kind of miss AMOLED screen tech for battery and contrast, but everything else makes up for it. Do not regret it.:good:

I have an S6e as well and agree with you. I had a Note 4 before the S6e and now the G4 and it feels downright massive compared to the S6e. The Note 4 felt smaller to me because it was thinner but it was a big device as well. I got rid of my Note 4 because of it's size, I ride motorcycles almost daily and the damned thing was never comfortable in my pocket, it was just too big and rectangle and flat. The S6e is perfect size for me in that regard but I really miss having a larger display (had a Nexus 6 before the Note). Because of the slight curvature of the back of the G4 it makes just enough of a difference in my jeans that it doesn't dig the corners of the phone into my leg when I squeeze the tank in turns, etc.
Cameras between S6e and G4 seem pretty similar to me but there is a difference but I attribute that to Samsung doing a better job of processing the jpg file that's output than LG with the G4 having the ace in the hole of giving you the raw file you can subsequently edit yourself. I know that's not what most people want to do (myself included for phone snaps), but I think the LG camera is better for that reason alone as you can certainly make a better image in the end. All that said, I believe the S6e will do the same once it gets official 5.1.1 and then a proper camera comparo can be done, though in all honesty it's still a phone camera and they are both outstanding for what they are.
Same thoughts on launchers too, the iteration of TW on the S6e is much better than anything they've done before but it still suffers from the same old problems of lag ultimately. I too use Nova (on both phones) and it solves the issue. If forced to use stock, I would probably pick the LG but I do hate the DPI of 640 and everything is so damned big and there's so much wasted screen real estate. The S6e out of the box with it's adjustable grid sizes and what not better utilizes the screen.
Agree on battery life also. On the stock ROM I could make it through a day (I work 18-20h shifts at times) on a single charge but I would cut it close some days. The built in Qi charging is really nice and I have a charger at work and I can just drop the phone on it when I can make it to my office and the quick charge via the INCLUDED wall charger is awesome. So even though the battery life wasn't great, it's quite easy to top it off. I did run the leaked TMo 5.1.1 software for a week or so and the battery life on it is a completely different animal. I could make it nearly 48 hours without a top off, so again, with 5.1.1 I think the S6e will be a lot better device than it currently is. The battery life on my G4 seems great so far. I've run it down to 10% twice now and it was at about 40h off charger each time. The phone itself supports quick charge 2.0 but the included wall charger doesn't. The wall charger charges it incredibly slow so I've been using my S6e charger which charges it in about 1/3 the time. I ordered a proper quick charge 2.0 certified charger that should be here tomorrow along with a Qi sticker for the stock back. All things considered, the G4 battery is certainly longer lasting but more of a pain in the ass to recharge for now (until my free spare battery from the promo shows up lol!) and for the way/scenarios I use my phone I prefer the S6e here. My Note 4 easily crushed them both in this category, it could go just over 3 days before dying.

Coming from S5 (Verizon) to the G4 (Verizon) ...
The S6 with no SD support was a no-go for me.
Battery life seems a little shorter than the S5. I suspect it is due to the beefier processor on the G4 even though the G4 has a bigger battery. The battery on the G4 seems to drop a LOT less when unused however.
I am kinda missing my fingerprint scanner on the S5, but the knock code and "locked files" in gallery help me keep certain pictures away from prying eyes.
Speaking of pictures, this camera is awesome. Period. Check out the "My LG G4 Photography" thread by alexfoxy. The front camera is pretty good too. A lady friend took a few selfies with my phone and said "damn, your phone makes me look good!"
I don't really notice the difference in the screen (size or resolution). S5 looked good and a the size is right for my big hands. G4 is the same.
This is the first phone that I didn't immediately wish for a ROM. I am missing my ad-blocking that requires root, but the default ROM is clean and fast (maybe kudos the the processor). I did have to change home back to Apex, tho.
All in all, very happy with the upgrade.

I'm coming from the Note 4 and I'm pretty sure the G4 is here to stay with me.
I can basically echo what others are saying;
- the ui is cleaner and smoother
- overall phone seems a lot smoother/quicker I haven't had much stuttering. The Note had its moments where it'd freeze or stutter really badly, even on a custom rom
- maybe it's just me but the pictures from the camera seem sharper.
- It feels better in hand aswell.
- The double tap on screen to unlock is nice to have
- the clip tray being an option when I long press where I would usually paste is nice to see as with the Note, the clipboard only showed up in select places
It just seems nicer overall. I do hope root comes soon as I'd want to disable some stuff.
In terms of battery, I feel like the Note might of done better but then again I had certain crap apps disabled *cough* tmo my account *cough*
I can't exactly judge though since my service at work sucks so whatever phone I use drains quickly. For some reason when I had the OnePlus it did a ton better in the poor coverage areas (in terms of battery drain) but it didn't have WiFi calling which is a big deal to me.
I didn't use the spen as much as I initially thought I would. When it came to taking notes I always went back to typing them rather than writing with the stylus. Although it did come in handy for selecting certain parts of a pic online and whatnot and quickly sharing it to something like hangouts.
Fingerprint and shealth I never cared for.
I haven't "missed" my Note 4 yet. I like having new devices and I'm sure I don't use them to their potential as some others do here but for my purposes the phone is great

Even though I have the HTC One M9 Dev Edition, I consider myself coming from the T-Mobile S5 to the T-Mobile G4. The dealmaker for me were the replaceable battery and removable storage. I'm still keeping my S5 of course. I still need a root-capable device.

Regarding the Note 4I got irritated with it to the point where I paid off half the phone's price to get rid of it. Lollipop was an absolute mess. First, we waited forever. Then when we get it, it really messed up the phone. Issues I had:
1) Constant keyboard FC (where keyboard stays on screen permanent until reboot)...this would happen about once an hour, but only when using special characters ( . , * $ etc).
2) Upon unlocking, I would go to a black screen occasionally, requiring me to press the power button to shut off phone, then turn back on.
3) Trying to open an e-mail from notifications would take me to e-mail APP, but to a blank page with a back button.
4) Sometimes, cellular radio would choose to ignore wireless data altogether despite being in a strong LTE area.
5) Wifi calling would hardly connect, and was as likely to drop mid-call as it was to stay connected
6) Battery life went from 2 days with my usage to about 18 hours.
On top of those Lolli issues, the settings menu was a mess...scroll all day to find the menu I wanted. Missed double tap to wake too.
While I LOVED the look of the M9 and I love HTC in general, I eliminated HTC M9 due to 2 reasons:
1) The camera wasn't a contender with the current flagships and I use it as my primary camera to take pics of my kids.
2) No dual apps on same screen. It's a feature I used on the Note 4, and M9 didn't have it.
The S6 got eliminated due to 3 main reasons:
1) Looks too much like IPhone...sorry, just not my style
2) Touchwiz...granted my opinion is based on the Note 4, but I found it to be overly heavy and loaded with things I don't really use.
3) No expandable storage. I read their point of using high speed EMMC and wanting to keep system fast. What I read in that was "Blah blah blah we want you to pay MORE to get more storage". Again, goes back to too much like IPhone.
I'm not saying the G4 is perfect...I'd love it to have an 8 core processor, but it's really powerful enough as is. It's not overloaded with apps I won't really used or features I don't use. I'm sure I'll find things I don't LOVE as I use it more, but nothing is jumping out at me so far, and considering this has only been out for what...2 weeks, it's still early release, so bugs could be expected somewhat even though I've had none thusfar. I also liked the promotions LG was putting with it considering it's the least expensive of all the flagships out there (at least for us T-Mobile customers...it's $50 less than the M9, $80 less than S6, $180 less than S6E, hell, it's even cheaper than a 16GB IPhone 6).

I'll make this short, I got the OPO back in late Summer 2014, after replacing my damaged HTC One M8 ( which I LOVED, and converted to GPE ) The Kit Kat ROM's were awesome on the OPO, giving me like crazy 7h Screen On time, I liked the shape and design of the phone, it sort of seemed like a Nexus 5-1/2, the Nexus phone Google would have made after the Nexus 5, if they didn't go Motorola. The OPO has a sort of Galaxy Nexus + Nexus 5 combo design going on, in a good way.
Yeah I hate OPO's invite system, and all the BS within the company, and to be honest the OnePlus Two does ZERO for me, I have no interest in that phone whatsoever. Seems like a side grade at best to the OPO. Plus not a fan of the SD810, so put me down as a OnePlus Two hater
Since I bought the OPO I have had the iPhone 6 Plus ( Jailbreaked, just to try out a big iPhone and the JB scene, but iOS blows IMO, ran back to Android less than a month later ) Then I bought the Nexus 6 which I liked a lot, especially stock Android and AOSP ROM's, but the Nexus 6 was really crossing that border for me size wise, just too wide. And now I currently have the Note 5, running a good custom ROM. The Note 5 surprised me, as I typically don't like Touchwiz, but with a good ROM, it really is fast and smooth, and of course the screen and camera are #1.
My point here is, I still kept my OnePlus One as a back up phone, but for a long while was left in a drawer for months, so I dusted it off, and installed Sultan's CM13 ROM, and holy ****, I forgot how much I liked this phone, and the stockish vanilla Android type OS of CM13 vs. Touchwiz is so nice. I am SIM swapping between my OPO and Note 5 every few days, I really like the OPO still, even compared to my Note 5. Yes of course the Note 5 is a better phone no doubt. But here's something special about this OPO, like the old EVO 4G thanks to XDA that lived on a very long time, this OPO is one of those few special phones, with the help of the great development community will live a long life. Plus the hardware is still pretty fast in the OPO, it's not like a slow turtle or something.
I hated the OnePlus Two, but the One X really surprised, looks like a great phone. I am very optimistic on the OnePlus Three now, if they can design it sort of after the One X, similar build quality and design, but with the SD820 + 4GB RAM, with a 5.5" screen, and keep the price around the $400 range or so, it could be another killer phone.

Since 2007 I have owned 4 phones (N95, HTC Desire, Galaxy Nexus, OnePlus One), you have managed that in the time i've had my OnePlus One lol.
Not enough changes even every two years to really justify a new phone these days, I still consider the OnePlus to be one of the best phones out today. Sure some phones are a bit better, however for me the battery life is amazing, the phone is really fast, has a nice camera and plenty of storage. I personally don't need anything else!
I'd personally be happy using the OnePlus as my main phone for another couple of years yet!

I used to say the same thing until i moved to a Nexus 6 some time ago. Only then i could see what an average phone the OPO is.
I still have my OPO but i see no point in using it.

Yes. In normal day usage its average per comparison.
The screen is worst, i have actually better battery on the Nexus, better feel on the hand, larger screen, better official support, better community, better roms, better hardware, fast charging, wireless charging, dude the list goes on.
The opo is an average phone in comparison with the Nexus.
That's why mine is on the drawer, getting dust. If it was a better phone i would be using it and not the Nexus.

Then you suddenly remember, (for me in Australia anyway) my OPO was $413 shipped, a Nexus 6 (not 6P) now is $849, and when they were the "latest Nexus" they were $949. And in the US the OPO is $299 and the N6 is $699... So looking at that, the Nexus 6 has a bigger screen (higher resolution, but bigger, so doesn't really matter anyway..), fast charging (eh can charge my OPO from 0-90% in just under 60 minutes anyway so..), clearly didn't have the bamboo back in regards to better feeling in the hand, better community is completely subjective to the user, as is better ROM's, better hardware is again subjective. The OPO has a better camera (5mp front vs 2mp) and can record in up to 1440p on the front camera, and 4K DCI on the back, not just 4K UHD. Battery life is again, subjective, but with a slightly bigger battery but a larger screen I expect the difference to be negligible at best. The OPO and N6 have the same amount of RAM. The processor, is better, but more importantly the GPU, but then with the 1440p screen the GPU needs to be considerably better.
I'd say average is an overstatement.

In the US the Nexus 6 is going for between $300 - $350 for the 64GB at the moment, the prices have really gone down cause of the 6P. Just a correction with the pricing. In my country it goes for $500 for 32GB Nexus 6 cause they're really rare

Nowdays, didn't said when the opo got released. Ofc the Nexus 6 was a very expensive device, it is also a more premium device.
Nowdays the opo is average and the Nexus is way, and i put WAY better and fairly the same price. I saw no point in paying full price when the Nexus 6 got out but nowdays you can have a top notch phone for less than 300 bucks.
And all the rest is just you making peanuts based on nothing, the Nexus as far as my experience goes is way better. You are trying to justify based on nothing.
As i have both i can opinate. Battery life is better on the Nexus, you can read reviews and shiz but they cant properly compare devices. I was getting under 5 hours of sot with my opo and i get over 5 hours now with just a kernel flashed. So, no, its not just negligible because you saw the battery numbers.
I dont like wood backs, and i do not need that for a phone to feel better. I have that stock on the Nexus 6. The metallic ring does wonders, no wood back can do that.
Also the camera, i'm sorry but everyone who says the opo camera is better is out if his mind. They both have average cameras but the Nexus is better, i can take better low light photos and HDR+ makes all the diference when capturing this, also ois helps, things that, wait, do not compute hardware side on the opo. The front facing camera performs equally better for the tasks i use it for, unlocking and some hangouts. Hell i can say the Nexus front camera doesnt do so much miss and run unlocking, but can be software side changes also. And im not even going to talk about the horrible halo effect due to the flash over exposing on the opo camera, i tried every single camera app/rom to avoid this but every one failed, the one that the halo was less noticeable was sultans ROM due to the changes be made to the hal. But even then i could notice some over exposure when using flash on dark places.
Moving on..
The screen isnt just bigger its BETTER. Better and noticeable contrast ratio, collors, deep darks, higher res that is noticeable, and yes, bigger.
The gpu isnt marginaly better, its awsomely better on the Nexus. The same games i used to get sutters on the opo doesnt sutter on the Nexus, its not just bechmarks, even pushing a way lot more pixels.
Also the sound, i forgot to mention. No point arguing here, the Nexus isnt boomsound but its a world better than the opo. Front fireing speaks are way better than bottom ones. You dont even know what you are loosing until you try it.
So, yes, nowdays the opo is average. Im sorry if you have to justify you have a top notch phone because you havnt. There are way better alternatives nowdays.
PS: Fast charging does make diference, i dont know you try to dismiss that as a very positive point. And i can also wireless charge it, but i guess thats just comodities that i like to have.

"top notch" is definitely an arguable claim, the camera was, less than stellar on the Nexus 6 and the hardware has aged with 64-bit now in play, alongside the new Snapdragon 808 and 810.

? I do have the Nexus 6 and OPO? So, I can and will justify what I said on the fact that I have both devices.
As I have both I can opinionate, on KitKat I got 6-7h SOT consistently on LTE, and 8-9h SOT Wi-Fi without a problem, Lollipop in it's early days decreased that number to 3.5-4.5h LTE, 4-5 Wi-Fi however on my current ROM (Sultan's CM12.1 stable) I consistently get 5-6h SOT easy every day on 3G (at home so I don't have Wi-Fi and can't test). So yeah, battery life is much better compared to my 6, which gets maybe 3.5-4.5h SOT on stock rooted with FK on LTE, and max 5.5H SOT with Wi-Fi low brightness etc.

Again, I think that feeling completely comes down to personal preference. To be honest I don't particularly like metal phones, I own a slew of devices (Z3 Compact, Z5 (gave to Dad), Galaxy S4, Galaxy S5, Galaxy Alpha, Galaxy Note 2, Moto X 2013, Moto X 2014, Nexus 6, OPO, Nexus 5, HTC One M8 (sold to brother), HTC One M9(gave to Mum)) and I hands down prefer a plastic phone to metal, I don't know why but I just don't like the feel of metal, the S6 is okay, but phones like the M8 and M9 I can't handle, and the N6 was borderline for me.
But I do understand that I am in the minority so whatever.

They both have average cameras but the Nexus is better, i can take better low light photos and HDR+ makes all the diference when capturing this, also ois helps, things that, wait, do not compute hardware side on the opo. The front facing camera performs equally better for the tasks i use it for, unlocking and some hangouts. Hell i can say the Nexus onde doesnt do so much miss and run unlocking, but can be software side changes also. And im not even going to talk about the horrible halo effect due to the flash over exposing on the opo camera, i tried every single camera app/rom to avoid this but every one failed, the one that the halo was less noticeable was sultans ROM due to the changes be made to the hal. But even then i could notice some over exposure when using flash on dark places.

The OPO on Sultan's ROM has an incredible camera, using the Snapdragon Camera app or Camera FV-5 (fixes the "horrible halo" in manual mode, however I really don't use the flash anyway..) I can consistently take a photo that I am happy with, I mean it's no S6, but it by no means takes bad photos either. Why the Nexus 6 does have a good camera, the Moto G this year is using the same sensor, basically sums it up, within 12 months the camera had moved from a $700 phone to a $200 phone.

The screen on the 6 is nicer than the OPO, however I find the cool colours of the OPO actually nicer than the panel on the 6. I also have a slightly modified screen profile on my phone so that might make all the difference. Deep blacks are due to the AMOLED, and owning both AMOLED and IPS phones I do prefer IPS, however again, that is totally a personal preference thing and I understand you may think differently.

The GPU is better yes, but I don't use my phone for games, at all, never have and probably never will. So if you want to wear the better GPU crown, you totally can.

This is true as well, front facing speakers are great, but then again, I don't really use the speakers on my device, I either use my earphones, my computer which has much superior sound anyway, or Bluetooth Audio in my car, there is never really a time when I want to use the speaker on my phone. But I will say I've never had a "problem" with the sound on the OPO.

I don't need to justify that I have a top notch phone, I very well know that I have a phone that was released almost 2 years ago, and I also know that I have the means to buy any phone of my choice right now, however, the OPO is still working for me so I'd rather buy something that I am actually going to use. I'll buy the OnePlus 3 on launch, and if that treats me well then great, and if it doesn't I'll probably buy next years Nexus devices. But in the same breath, the Nexus 6 is nothing amazing, it is well over a year old now, lacks some "crucial" things for a current top-notch smartphone, being a fingerprint scanner, 64-bit to name a few.

PS: I know fast charging makes a difference, but to me, I charge my phone at night, and take it off at 7am, and put it back on at 12pm, and don't look at the battery percentage otherwise. I've used wireless charging once and thought eh and never used it again, but again, something some people want to use so whatever.

Lucky I don't live in the US. Here it is still going for $849. I also can't get the Nexus 6 from the current deals as they refuse to ship to Australia. However, looking on Swappa I can get a OnePlus One, $150-180, saw one for $180 brand new in box. I do get that for the price the Nexus 6 is a killer deal, however it's not to say that you should throw whatever you have out the window, and there are just as good a deals around for other products, like the OnePlus One.

Stock, just a kernel i get over 5 hours sot, with the same usage on the opo not even close to that. So, in my opinion way, WAY better. Adaptative brightness on the Nexus with adaptative display always on. And i can't see how your results may vary but anyway, im a believer.
Premium materiais =/= your opinion. If you think having a metal ring arround the phone doesn't make it premium keeping it light than every manufacturer must have gone to the idiot side for using those.

If you never had problems with the speakers on the opo you cearly do not use your phone. When im showing something to friends, and this happens allot, and we need sound for example, not giving out a pair if bt headsets to all of them. If im watching a tv show i rather have sound come from the phone, stereo sound.
I used to cover them all the time with the opo because if their bad placement. Not that it isnt better than the ones located on the back, but clearly problematic and worse.
The fast charging is needed for those who use their phones all the time. Sometimes i get home from work, i get my phone on the charger to boost its battery before going out for a coffee. Ofc if i do not use my phone, if i stay home i do not need fast charging because im close to a charger. But then again thats your problemas for not using the phone an not needing a well needed feature like fast charging. Also i installed a wireless charging pad on my car so no cables, couldnt have that before.
The rest is just peanuts, even your phone collection that you may or may not have had is peanuts to me. Im not bragging about the phones i had because when i move i move to a better one, i do not move to a crappier one.
What i have to say about that is, im happy with my Nexus 6 and its a well better device than the opo. It was a well needed upgrade on all meanings. Google device everyday over the opo at the moment. Oneplus is a crappy company with no support, they made a successull phone due to Cyanogen. Most devs are running away from this phone which will end up with a bad version of android, a version full of problems. So im not even interested in their Oneplus X A B or 3. I did not look at the Oneplus 2 because of that same reason, its a ****ty device with the lack of a proper os.
The fingerprint reader and the 64bit are arguably good features if you need them. The 64 bit is a double sided blade, instructions on the VM can be bigger but you need more RAM to take advantage of that, maybe in some years you can see a practical bebefit for that. But even then you wont run high memory desktop apps on your phone. The fingerprint reader i would like to havê as a gimmick, does nothing on my country (no Android pay for example) and like i said i relly on having a pebble and face unlocking. Doesnt make a phone to be less of a top notch, pick your poison over the thousands of chinese phones that have those and suck ass (elephones and other crap).
Ofc you can have a different opinion but hardware/software comparison you cant deny its better. Or maybe you can trying to smooth things up with facts that are not facts with surreal opinions like saying: "oh yea i had this, that and that, and i know its supperior but im the minority thinking like this, oh well" (the i dont use the flash made me lol so hard).
The Nexus 6 as the price of today is more of device than the opo, better hardware and support. If you cant even acept this its your problem. But as you would say "meh meh i dont need good hardware/software support i dont use it".

Strangely enough you are the fanboy. He just stated his opinions without necessarily attacking you and you feel the need to belittle him to make your argument sound better. I don't doubt the Nexus 6 is a great phone but claiming the OPO is average makes me believe you are really poor when it comes to judgement and based on this long ass post you made you proved this to be a fact.

Yep, he's a fanboy, saw that from post #1. I've worked with both phones, and even though the N6 is really good, the OPO is still an amazing device for it's age, calling it average is just plain dumb.

I don't even care to argue about the cameras in word form, but I'll just show you some of the photos that I have taken in the last few weeks on my OPO; these images have been compressed twice, just as a side note (through Facebook Messenger because I don't have a microUSB cord on me at this moment, and then through imager.) I'd like to see if anyone is just looking at this, their thoughts on these photos, but I mean that's not required I quite like them and that's all that really matters.

I bought new OPO even when I'm owning s6, and I had one OPO already I just love this device!! I gave my old OPO to dad! even he loves it .. ( first touchscreen phone he has ever used! )

I can do nothing more than agree! I bought the phone one and a half years ago and it still feels very nice. I don't even think about getting a new phone for now.
The OPO will also have a long support life, thanks to XDA

Have to agree with this thread. Using the OPO for about a year now. I've been bitten by the upgrade bug, but don't really have a phone which has seriously drawn me to it within a decent price range. Maybe the 6P, but it's so expensive and I don't really gain that much in terms of tangible benefit.

At least according to this review's measurements, the OPO's screen is better in color accuracy than the Nexus 6

And when I compare it with the same picture on my PC's IPS screen, it is pretty much comparable(the LG IPS236v produces slightly punchier reds than the OPO's screen).

Today, I will update my phone to CM13 by Sultan so I have the latest software! As a developer it's awesome to be able to get the state of the art software without restrictions.

The LG G5 is VERY underrated and underappreciated

Sup y'all, I really wanted to post this because I feel like the G5 is not getting the credit it deserves. But first let me give you a little bit of my smartphone background.
For the past 2 years, I have not kept a single phone for more than a month. The phone that I kept one month was the Galaxy S7 which was as recent as 3 weeks ago. Before that it was the HTC One M8 that I kept for 3 weeks. I constantly chang smartphones and I definitely have a condition . Im stating that because I have tried every phone you can possibly think of that came out from early 2014 till now. Prior to 2014 I wasnt going as crazy as I did the last couple of years. I'm slowing down now so that's good lol.
Just to name a few, I had the S7, Note 5, 6P, V10, G4, S6, S6 edge, S6 edge plus, Moto X, Xperias, Iphone 6s and 6s plus...not going to name them all but you get the point. So I'm very familiar with smartphones and I got a pretty damn good idea how they rank imo and in some areas objectively. The LG G5 is top 5 phones I have ever used EASILY. Is it the very best? No. I'll personally give that to the S7 (exynos variant) but it's right up there.
I got my G5 a few days ago and I'm already in love with it. It's not perfect by any means, but its a damn good phone and when I like or love something I feel the need to speak on behalf of it or defend it....whatever you wanna call it.
The phone has been out for over a month now so I got lucky and I didn't get any build quality issues. My module at the bottom Is perfectly lined up, no warping on the back of the phone, I don't notice any light bleed....my unit is as perfect as can be.
This phone has a fantastic display. I can see it very clearly in sunlight. No it's not as bright as the S7 but it's perfectly fine for me and it is super duper sharp. The wide angle camera is probably the best feature this phone has, it's too dope. I wonder why OEMs didn't think of doing that before, it's really really straight ????.
The performance is OUTSTANDING!!!!! This phone absolutely flies without slowing down ever. No lag, no stutter, it just slices through everything. Battery life is good. Not great, not bad, but it's good. I'd say it's slightly above average. I have only had my phone for 3 days but I get 4 1/2 of screen on time every day. In fact I'm on pace to reach over 5 hours of sot today. Plus I have the extra battery and cradle so I just swap batteries. I have yet to charge my phone, So convenient. Also, this is the thing that inspired me to start this post the most, it's the standby time of this phone. I have never ever ever ever seen anything like this before. Whether in wifi or mobile network data, whether the phone is laying down or is in your pocket, if you don't use the phone it does not drop one percent for HOURS. Im so impressed by that because coming from a Samsung phone, Samsung devices have atrocious standby time. But this is even better than an iPhone. It's absolutely insane.
Which leads me to say this. People bash LG for the G5 design, it's ugly, it feels cheap blah blah blah.....I understand all that. But there's another way to look at it. This is the only flagship to offer a removable battery. Whether you care for that or not you still gotta respect it. And the way it's done is pretty stylish to me, I have fun Everytime I switch the battery. Also they are pretty much the only OEM to still offer the IR blaster. Again, even if you don't use it it's there and it's the fact that LG gives us that option that is cool. Same thing with the coating on the back of the phone that ppl say feels plasticky, but it was done to hide the antenna bands. It seems to me that LG did what they did, having the best interest of the consumers in mind. Of course they wanna make money and all that but they could have easily ditched the removable battery, made a full metal unibody non removable battery device a la Samsung and call it a day. Instead they took the risk with the modularity. Today it's not respected but in the future when we look back at that, we will pay homage to LG for that. Great phone and I would recommend anyone to give it a try, it is totally worth it. I love the LG G5 and I'm very proud of it.
I still think the Exynos Galaxy S7 is overall the better phone, just because of the crazy battery life. In terms of performance they both cancel each other out. In day to day operation, fluidity and seem less operation I have to give it to the G5. In terms of loading apps, especially games and game play I have to give it to the S7. Both leads are minor but I do notice a difference.
The LG G5 is an incredible phone, I'm confident that if you take a 100 ppl on XDA who don't care for this device and let them test the phone for a few days, most of them will have a different opinion about it. I'm glad LG came out with this phone, much respect to them. Cheers!

I'm curious how you did this, were you buying on eBay slightly used or what? If you were buying new I feel like you'd be spending a pretty penny each time you switched. Also all the phone setting up, oy vey! I guess that's the exciting time for phone ownership, the first few weeks, but its also the biggest headache . not sure I could do that.

Lg have balls to make something new this year.
I don't understand why it is underappreciated.
Modules are just a +, wide angle is pretty fun and removable battery is a need.
I saw benchmarks where g5 is better, like read speed memory and in the comments nothing about the g5, just like it doesn't exist.. all are speaking about s7, htc 10, iphone etc..
I'm not saying this is the best phone, but it doesn't deserve these bad comments.
Anyway I don't care, this is my first lg and I don't regret this choice.

My main gripes with the phone are inital launch bugs such as the auto brightness issue, the FFC bug, and the shorter battety life. Build quality isn't the greatest but its the finish they used that makes it feel worse. I have had 0 slow downs, lags, or any other SW issue that makes the phone unusable. Coming from the Note 5, this phone runs rock solid.
If LG pays attention to this device and regularly updates it. It just might become a 2 year phone for me.

Exactly. You just have to sell at the right time, and keep the phone in great condition. I've done the same over the years.

I agree 100% as well except i'd call the battery life exceptional. I am getting up to 6.5 hours SOT, over a days battery life and that's with wifi and or 4g on permanently, Facebook, Messenger, Whatsapp, Instagram, and screen brightness never lower than 70%, mostly around 90%.
There's only one other phone which can beat it for battery life (S6 and S7 will die very fast at 75 to 100% screen brightness), and that is the HTC one m8. My GF has it, and always has screen at 100% brightness and gets 7 hours SOT regularly.
I would say the G5 is a keeper for me... until a new phone with dual lenses as they are really important to me now.

I am hearing so many bad comments about the HTC 10 on their forums about their phones lagging, saying that their nexus or M8's are way smoother. Also hearing that people who have the 10 that have messed with the G5 say the G5 is one of the fastest phones they have ever used. I'm not liking this, I might not get the 10 anymore and might just wait for the htc nexus or note 6.

The G5 is super well optimized, and it's funny cause usually they suck at that. But They started with the V10 and carried that on to the G5.

To those like me who find themselves dismayed all alarmist posts, where there are countless jumble defects: catastrophic battery, dead pixels, stains on the screen, bars on the screen, GPS problems, bluetooth problems, catastrophic hardware finishes, crackling headphones, too low light, fingerprint sensor problem, not good pictures etc, etc ...
In these readings, I almost canceled my preorder.
Coming from a Note 3 that still works perfectly optimized by the root, very powerful, I do not really "need" to change (except for Note foist said to my half awaits impatiently ^^)
But I decided to wait and see: possible return within 15 days.
I received April 29 (Darty) and discovered the LG interface after 5 years spent with Samsung.
Balance sheet after two weeks where my point of comparison is the Samsung Note 3:
Connectivity: I have no problem with the Bluetooth (pairing is no problem with my car radio, other smartphones ...), GPS (waze no problems), the sound works well, whether media , headphones, telephony.
My battery holds without problem two examples:
17h22. to reach 26% 41% Desktop / 21% inactive phone / waze 9% / 6% Playstore / facebook 6% / 4% sleep / mood 3% / 1% OS
33h15 to arrive at 18%: 37% inactive phone / 28% screen / 7% waze / 6% cellular sleep / 5% facebook / 5% lge exchange / 3% OS / 2% mood (sms)
Charging is fast (i confess that I did not time it, but it is faster than the Samsung)
I let the still active bluetooth, GPS only with Waze (40 to 50 min / day) network that oscillates much between 4G, 3G and even Edge (travel between city and countryside -network Bouygues), always on the still active there including the night (I should point out that I lose with 0% at night.)
No physical problems: no scratches, bad finishing module that bad snaps from day between the bottom of the phone and body.
I was a little afraid of the boss of the sensors on the back of the device but frankly, I am pleased to see that it does not appear that much, and it is not unsightly.
The battery system is surprising: it is always afraid of the clip / unclip, but no concern to undo and return on the basis or the CamPlus.
No not with accessories problem earphones and CamPlus + official hull that were offered with the pre-order: the CamPlus fits well, is taken well in hand, but is certainly not very "pretty "globally on the phone, but it is not just that.
The shell fits perfectly to the body of the phone works perfectly for the always on, and all notifications which are inter-act: calls, alarms, always on, and it closes well, contrary to what I read.
Side screen and picture, no problem of light leakage spots, bars other dead pixels, or brightness: neither always on (which I find even too bright at night) or read (I often find very / too bright, which I blamed the Samsungs, consistently lowering the brightness).
The colors are true, I was afraid to "come down" to the LCD after enjoying the AMOLED. I actually detects nothing shocking about this change.
The pictures are good, more natural than photoshopped and instagrammé effect affixed by Samsung. The details are present, bright colors without being flashy, the wide mode with the dual sensor is a real plus, not too distorting effects.
I'm always trying to domesticate the manual mode, which offers many possibilities of shots, it's a bit complicated when not used, and there is no manual or explanatory guide.
system side: I'm V10c-EUR-XX is fluid, no lag. I returned to routinely Next launcher, I was pleased that LG will not rot their device with a multitude of useless apps, LG or Google or other partners. I easily off those that do not interest me, very few.
I installed Greenify, following me since its appearance, especially for apps such FB, twitter and G + that tend to reactivate and drain the battery.
No problem with the SD CARD, I can transfer what I want it, no recognition problem with my PC when I connect them together.
Small negatives: the USB3 cable is not plugged really well; it is not set as a USB 2 or 3. If the moves being transferred, it disconnects.
The app LG Health is a little less complete than the S Health (maybe time to get used to it), I especially regret not being able to return data on previous days.
Why the shell has thee an open window? I fear that the screen is scratched. The S view from Samsung was entirely covering the screen, and it worked well....
I do not yet fully tested CamPlus am, I hope to have good weather (and time) to do so soon.
That, I think I have everything reviewed ^^
I am fully satisfied with my choice and happy to have left the Samsung microcosm.
And for those who hesitate, I tell them: go ahead, throw yourself in the water !!

Now, im going to comment in favor of the lg g5 even if i dont have it yet. Every phone has its flaws. There is not perfect phone yet because every customer has something they would like to add or remove. I currently own an S5 and im desperate to buy the lg g5, and not the s7 nor htc 10. And for me, huge flaws are the following ones: lack of slot for external sd card, no removable battery, burn in screen, and back easily breakable.
I dare you to leave your s7 with screen on and full brightness with an image with very saturaded color, and status bar on for half a day. That would be your biggest mistake(burn in image) . Here i am with my s5 with amoled screen and burn in image. Now, personally, the s5 is way better than the s7 in many aspects. And the s7 to me was like 1 steps forward 4 steps back for samsung. I was a fan of samsung but not anymore.
People who talk bad about the appearance, seems to be obsessed with just that. And i was wondering, do people always carry their phones without the cover? I really doubt that most of them do, and despite covers offer protection, they also cover the (what so many people call premium design and feeling). So, why to argue about the appearance when you will put it inside a cover anyway? Grow up and get over it.
Also, there is the problem with people complaining about the modules. Understand people, that's just an additional feature, and whether you want to buy more modules or batteries or not is not an obligation, it is an option. Thats way better than what samsung has done previously. Which is limiting your options. When you buy an any item, do you buy an item which is very limited on its functionality? Or do you buy an item that do more than it has to offer... I dont know you but LG has just opened a new gate on the era of smartphones. And probably samsung will end up copying it, and all other phones as well. Sure i heard that google was developing a new modular smartphone but they have taken so long, and whoever release their product first thats the one who desetve the 1st place that honors the feature. And that resulted to be LG.

Have to agree with the OP. I absolutely love my G5!
As you can see from my Signature pic I have been through many manufacturers (including Samsung) and ended up sticking with LG for a while now. Loved my G3 (the 2gb/32gb version of course), the G4 was a step up in all aspects (once I got LG to replace the early motherboard with a new one that doesn't get bootloop), and now the G5 is just WOW. So fluid and smooth and the wide angle lens is brilliant. I have just come back from holiday with my partner who has an iPhone 6 Plus - arguably the best iPhone so far. Usually they take all the 'good' shots outside (my G4 beat indoors easily), but this time it was ... ' oh can you take that as I can't fit it all in'... even on the NORMAL angle I fitted more in, and widescreen well... no need to even comment! The picture quality is really good, colours look natural, and even though my Cam Plus module didn't turn up before I went away (grrr) the phone was a godsend!
I have no issues with bluetooth, the GPS works fine (with NavFree, Navigator and Google Maps), all my social apps work great, and thanks to Three UK and their free country roaming I had H+ throughout most of my Scandinavian trip!!
I know it has it's flaws. The screen has very slight 'bend' in the lower corners, and I hope this will be OK with my new glass protector when it arrives, but if not I will simply get it swapped out for one that doesn't have the bend issue. Compared to some issues I've had that is so minor it's not worth mentioning. Compare it to my friends who spend £700+ on top end iPhones who had them go all 'curved' simply by having them in their pockets!

I've had my G5 for a little over 3 weeks now and I must say that I am seriously digging this phone. I was team HTC up until the M9 which wasn't a bad phone...just very mediocre in most regards. One thing I LOVE about this phone is the camera, man this thing takes amazing pictures and the wide angle lense is a very welcomed plus. Battery life for me has been good but not great, standby is great but it drains a little on the fast side under moderate usage, overall not bad. The build has some minor detail issues that I no longer see because I put the phone in a case.
A lot of phones receive negative press and do not fully deserve it. I believe the G5 and HTC 10 both have received tough reviews, but both seem to be damn good phones. A lot of people subconsciously base their opinion off of the opinions of reviews and it seems to muddy the waters.

Yep, all the reviews keep saying S7 Edge... so I went to buy an S7 Edge. Luckily, last minute I followed my guts and got the G5. Boy I'm happy with this phone!
I had it with me in Europe and it is amazing. :good::good::good:

hahahah that's what i thought at first. That the notification bar was the one burned in the screen, but it is the opposite, because the notification bar is pure black, it doesnt degrade the pixels from is true colors. The areas of pure blackness in the phone with amoled screen doesnt use the pixels, instead it turn them off. You just have to search on google for a white image and put it in a full screen mode. You will see that there are 2 whites. One one kind of yellowish turning brown, and the other one is the best one an amoled screen can achieve. Therefore, your situation is just like mine. We have our screen about 95 percent completely burn, the other 5 percent is not burn. And if you leave an image with multiple colors and some sections with pure black then only the color parts will burn in. Then black part wont.

These amoled now operate differently than it used too, the black is still on now, they are slightly lit, unlike the very early version, just go into a totally dark room and use a pixel tester for a total black screen, you can see the black is still lit.

HA! to make it worst hahaha. well, i think im ready to change to the lg g5 as soon as the root for the h830 is released. Just imagine that i bought my father an LG g3 and i almost told him to exchange it with me lol! It is way faster than the s5, sure, the picture of the lg g3 is not as good as the s5, however, i bet the lg g5 can beat the s5 camera even if they have the same amount of mega pixels. It's not that im against samsung, but a dont feel like buying a new screen everytime i leave the screen on, or that every 6 month to 1 1/2 i have to buy a new screen. The day that AMOLED screens solve this issue then i might consider to go back to them. Otherwise, im out of AMOLEDs . I dont really care about pure black colors in a phone, in the end when you pass the photos to computer they all have the same black lol. By the way. thanks for letting me know about how AMOLED works now.

That's why they suggest to use dark wallpapers, because by using it you will use less battery, but that only qualifies for AMOLED screen, However i put IPS and AMOLED Phones in a balance and (i will take samsung again as an example because i have followed the flagship of samsung since the S2 and Note 1 and all of then got burn in screen) i just see that there is not significant improvement in AMOLED devices now. In fact, for me the samsung galaxy s5 is better than the S7 or the S6. The S6 removed the waterproof, the S7 added back the waterproof, the S6 added the IR back, the S7 Removed it. Both S6 and S7 removed the ability to change the battery (unless opened the phone=remove warranty), The S6 had 16 MP of camera, the S7 lowered the pixels of the camera. As you can see i dont really see any real improvement in the s7 or S6 . Removing and putting back, then removing again. In exchange, the LG has show improvement (sure in a slow way, taking its time but the have done it). they even kept the ability of IR which S7 removed. sure, it is not important for many people, however it is there. What makes a phone great or interesting is that even if you dont use a feature at all, the feature is there for if any day something happens, or your interest to use it awakes all of the sudden. It's the same thing people dont understand about the modules, they say that modules are crap , but they don't see the real point of those modules. They are not a need, they are a want (You use it if you want them, not if you need them). And also there are rumors that LG is open for developers who wants to create new modules and they will earn a significant percent of the income generated. So,,,, who knows if there will be even more interesting things than we are currently seen on the LG G5. (I have always appreciate the smartphone developers who give us the option in case we need them :good::good::good::good::good

opinions now that it's been out a while?

How are you V20 owners feeling about the phone now that it's been out a while? I'm looking for a new phone and the options with Sprint suck, so it seems like it's either the S7 Edge or the V20. Both have good reviews, but those reviews are always done after maybe a few days or a week of use, and right at the phone's release, so I wanted to get some real world opinions from every day users.
I have an LG G3 right now (came to this from a Note 2) and I've been pretty unhappy with it for a while. It was okay (but nothing special) for the first year, then really went to crap--laggy, restarting itself, losing data connection. So I'm a little leery of going with another LG product, but this phone does have my interest.

I had a Note 2 and 4 prior to the V20 here and I love this phone. Even before root, I thought it was excellent. I find it fast and snappy, it doesn't seem to carry the lag that Samsung phones do. And the second screen is pretty awesome, I use it way more than I ever used the s-pen (never had an edge phone, so I can't compare it with thag).
Having said that, there are a couple downsides. I don't like the lcd screen - Samsung's amoleds are far better looking. And I feel like the camera on the Note 4 was better. But otherwise I'm really pleased with this phone. It's a great phone in and of itself, but it's the stuff that differentiated it from Samsung, the removable battery and ir blaster, that put me over the top.
And now that we have root? Oh yeah, I would definitely recommend this phone.

I too shared the concern of lag after using a G3, but this V20 is one of the fastest phones I've ever used (owned it since release). It's still snappy, no weird crashes or restarts, battery still lasts 2 solid days, wifi is still stronger than my Note 7 was. The more I use it the less things like the lack of notification LED bother me, and I'm more and more impressed with the audio that this phone delivers. However I still miss AMOLED, if this V20 had an OLED display it would be 10/10 for me.

Personally, both my dad and I want to throw our devices out a window. Mine regularly locks up, and both of our devices occasionally heat up, and drop 20% or more battery life in 5 minutes. I'd like this phone a lot if these issues didn't exist but as it stands they outweigh the incredible audio quality that this phone provides

I got the V20 when I had to give up my Note7. The note 7 was hands down my favorite phone I've ever owned, but the V20 is good. I also owned the V10, which was okay, the V20 is a vast improvement though. Good performance, decent battery life (not getting a secondary with charging kit would defeat the purpose), and the camera is pretty good (but not on par with Samsung as far as I'm concerned). I like the second screen, but it's a trade for the edge screen function. Honestly I would have gotten the S7 edge, but after the note 7 debacle, I refused to support Samsung this year. Will upgrade to the next note though as soon as I can.

That's interesting - did you use dirtysanta on your phone? If so, use the Konverged kernel. It helps significantly (using it on my H910).
If not, you can also do these couple of things to help you out - turn off/disable Lookout. That is terrible to have on the phone and drains battery like no other. Go into your developer options menu in Settings, change all the different scales like animation scales, etc. to 0.5x. There's a couple of other small things you can do - like disabling the bloatware installed on your phone. But those will help out the most I believe.

Nope I already always disable all possible bloatware and my phone is stock. Changing the window speed also will not help because my problem isn't sluggishness, it's the fact that the phone becomes unresponsive.

Overall I would have to say I'm kinda disappointed with the lg v20. Coming from the note 3, I don't know if I expected too much, or was looking to be blown away, but for the price, I expected so much more. If the phone would've been like $400-500 maybe I wouldn't be so disappointed. I had to send my v20 to lg because of the speaker problem, so I have been using a ZTE z958, a $50 go phone from att. Honestly I can't really tell the difference between the v20 and the ZTE. Not enough to justify the $800 difference. The only two things I miss from the v20 are the finger print sensor and FM radio. Think I'm going to stick with my ZTE. Luckily my wife got an iPhone 7 plus and she didn't like it very much and wants to switch back to Android, so I think I'm just going to give her the v20 and sell the iPhone 7 plus. Much more easier to sell iPhone and not loose that much money, than to try and sell v20.

I know this is the LG section so I might get a biased answer, but if I could get the V20 and the Galaxy S7 for the same price, which one should I go for?
Sprint has a deal on the S7 right now until 12/28, and I was told by a rep in the forums that the same deal is going live for the V20 on 12/29. Both will come down to about $6.50/month after the sale plus my loyalty credit.

Coming from note 3, 4 and 7 - I am very pleased with the V20. Not rooted yet as I'm not sold that root will gain me much of anything and the more I read, the less I am interested in rooting. Bad battery life, no fm radio, worse signal, loss of sound improvement from quad dac and no means of reverting to stock unrooted.
I miss the look of the super amo-led a little bit, but I don't miss the screen burn on every samsung amoled screen I have owned or seen with many family members samsungs.
Love the second screen, sound quality with and without headphones. Happy with the camera using manual mode. Love the removable battery, sd slot, ir blaster, fm radio. The fact that I can disassemble and repair the phone if the need arises. Something the samsungs can be hard or even impossible to do.

Advice wanted from experienced LG V20 users

Hi folks. I've been on a T-mobile Note 4 for a long time now, and love it- no problems yet and an 8000 maH battery keeping me quite happy.
Thinking forward to buying a new phone soon. Lots of new stuff coming out soon, but the V20 still looks attractive to me (being able to get a 10,000 maH zerolemon battery is a BIG factor). IR blaster and SD card availability is big to me too.
Couple of questions:
1) Thinking about what's coming out, and having lived with the V20, would you wait for what's coming out this spring, or even sit back until the "V30"?
2) I love taking pictures with the Note 4, and they turn out well. Low light, well, not so much. Flowers on a sunny day are great. Are you happy with the main and selfie cameras, or do you find yourself wanting "just a bit more" (for the average user... I'm not a full time amateur photographer).
Your comments would be much appreciated. I just retired, so I have more time to play with things these days- so I'm sure I'll be using the next beast I buy extensively especially for reading, nice photos, and the ir remote (oh, I got a great e-z chair for tv time ).

I like my V20 but unfortunately I do not "love" it like I did with my OG Motorola Nexus 6.
The stock battery is utter crap and I am on my 2nd LG battery after having to recall the 1st one. The 2nd one greatly improved but not by much. Rooting this phone has saved me from returning it. If it wasn't for Root I would of returned the phone.
1. Other than the G6 or the S8 coming out - what other phones are coming out (T-Mobile Wise)? Nothing right now seems to give me that "wow" factor like the Pure Android experience from the Nexus 6 did (yes, as you can tell, I loved that phone) The Pixel phones are a complete joke to me...horrible design....
2. The camera is okay for an average user. I do find myself liking the fact I have two lenses to choose from. Wide angle and normal angle. Very helpful in the Security field that I am in. But be warned the pictures are not amazing like Samsung devices.
If I were you, kinda wish I was right now. I would wait for the Note 8!
But other than that the 2nd Screen is incredibly helpful, to me. The removable battery and SD card is a great addition. The IR Blaster is cool but I do not use it at all. I have enough "Universal" remotes. LG's UI is pretty neat I like it a lot better than Samsungs ugly TouchWiz UI.
To each their own, I suppose.

I think the phone is awesome, the smart phone market has peaked advancements aren't going to be as neat as they used to be.
The snapdragon 820 is about 3 times faster than the 805 in your note 4 (assuming you've got the snapdragon variant).
The camera is snappier than the note 4 and takes pretty good photos (better than the note 4).
If you like the stylus though I'd wait it out 6 months for the note 8.
It's a worthy upgrade and it'll probably be a phone that would carry you through two years if not longer.

Absolutely the best phone I've ever had.
Very well built, great reception, zero lag, large screen....and I have to disagree about the battery. I've had nothing but FANTASTIC life, and this is with two different batteries, one just for backup just in case. Fast charging works great...volume is perfect, removable battery, rootable and TWRP-able...honestly, I wouldn't even think about "upgrading" from this phone right now. Samsung who?

I came from the note 4 also. This phone is much faster (no Lag). I didn't think there was any lag with my note until I got this phone. With that said, I am rooted with a custom rom and that did speed things up a little. My note was also rooted with a very nice custom rom.
When the note 7 came out, the were a lot of people on XDA saying they wished there was a flat screen version, i.e. not the curved screen. You can bet the note 8 will have a curved screen which makes finding quality screen protection tough. The v20 does have slight curving at the top and bottom, but people here have found tempered glass solutions that work.
You can also bet the note 8 won't have a removable back, so replacing the back plate with a bigger battery and cover won't be an option.
The camera takes very good pictures and if you understand the options in manual, you can really optimize it. Is it as good as the note 8 will be? No.
Sammy screens are also the best looking. The V20 screen while it has the specs, just doesn't look as good as a sammy. If you use a kernel with kcal support, you can get close.

I also came from a Note 4.
I personally never used the stylus for anything except taking screen grabs. I fount it easier than remembering the button combo for a screenshot.
My gps stopped working due to a known defect in the note 4. I broke the display trying to take it apart to fix it.
I love my V20 so much more than my note 3 or 4 or 7 even.
I won't buy note 8 as like all Samsungs -
1. The sound will most likely be horrible.
2. You probably will never be able to root it.
3. As nice as the amoled looks - everyone I've owned as well as my wifes, bil's, sisters all suffer bad screen burn in.
4. If they force that curved edge screen again. I hated that on the Note 7.

I'm done with Sammy. LG V20 is the best I've ever had so far

I also came from the Note 4. I got the s7 edge which i gave to my wife. The buttons(or lack of) take a little getting used to, but the ability to root determined my buying the V20 and I think it is on par with my note feature wise(minus stylus\plus FM radio) just faster and maybe a bit lighter. If Note 8 is rootable, i might jump but i doubt it. I could keep this phone for awhile.

Another perk with LG is that the amount of garbage software that it comes with is minimal when compared to Samsung. I know the note 3 and note 4 were filled with Samsung garbage apps.
The other consideration is there is no know so warranty shouldn't be a issue since there is no knox switch that gets flipped when you root it, you can (in most cases) reverse the rooting without any problems.
Of course I turned in my v10 rooted and they didn't even care (T-Mobile) so I am not sure if this is a real issue with warranty or not.
I say go for it, its going to beat the note 4 in just about everything. The only perk for the note 4 is the amoled display which saves quite a bit of battery. Of course you can always get aftermarket battery packs to off set it with the LG v20.
The v20 battery life is much improved over the v10, I typically have about 30 percent battery by the end of the day (this is with spotify and Bluetooth running during the work day).

I really do like it a lot, although it had to grow on me a little bit. In term of pictures, I think it takes rather nice pictures (at least for me). The wide angle lens is pretty cool too. My note 5 broke so this is why I have this phone. The second screen is really useful and I like that it doesn't have a notification light. The screen is nice and big for reading also. I don't use the IR blaster at all so i can't really tell you what its like.

The v20 is OK but my note 7 was far superior. Better camera, screen, battery life, only thing the v20 had over the note 7 was the DAC. Personally I would wait until newer phones comes out. I'm looking FWD to the note 8.

As someone who have had a wide variety of samsungs and LG .... I believe i will be keeping this phone for at least 4 years easily. There are just not way too many cons and there are way to many pros. The battery can sometime be a pain but that's just like any other phone since nothing last forever. But hey, the dozen mode!!! OUTSTANDING! my V20 consumes 1% of battery in 8 hours with screen off and 2nd screen on. so, it might not last more than 5:30-50's+ hours with screen on, full brightness, wifi on, gps on, and a video in 1440p. But,,,, as far as dozen mode goes.... It is outstanding! And if the promotion stills on, you can get the phone for 600+ instead of the 800+ by exchanging any 4g crap phone ($19 dollars at walmart should do lol). Im happy with the phone (sometimes pictures if zoomed in can look like waterpaint style but it doesnt happen that often (At least to me)). And as far as waiting for the V30 or note 8 ... Well, that is truly up to you. However, if you are hoping for root , there is just not guarantee given the fact that they are truly patching up every door from nougat 7.0 and up. So... you could wait for the V30 or note 8 but if you wish for root or developments.... i dont recommend to buy them before someone finds the way to root it.

I was one of the ones that was coming from an S6 edge instead of something newer, so obviously it's a bigger upgrade for me than it was for most others. I am pretty happy with the camera. I miss having the double-tap home button from the Samsung for the camera launch, but that's about it. I took it with me to Colorado and took some quite lovely pictures in the sunshine. Most people will concede that the low light performance leaves some to be desired, but I usually don't take any in conditions that are that bad, where that I would complain afterwards. I kind of figure that in sub-optimal conditions, I'll have sub-optimal results.
My battery seems to be quite fine, BUT, I'm also rooted and running a debloated ROM (the US996 stock deodexed, on my 995 Verizon model). The battery under whatever kernel it's running, is quite fine, and it is removable for people needing more length. I wish it had wireless charging, but that's just how it is. But for example, 8 hours on standby, and I was still at well over 75% today at work. And I can usually get through a good 3 hours of straight video playback at least. But the way people use their phones varies so much, it's hard to say. I do get better life rooted than when it was stock.
It also is plenty snappy, and I've had no issues, no overheating, no weird battery drain, no lag, or the like. I would say that coming from what you have now, it might be a step up but you might feel it won't be a big enough one yet. But the LG G6 being rumored out might be worth holding out, assuming you aren't looking to root. That might get tricky as Nougat (mentioned above) starts getting locked down. I have faith in the community - after all, it didn't take long for the V20 to get opened up, though there are some that worry that it'll continue to get harder as exploits get patched.
For what it's worth, I love mine. I miss a couple weird tricks from other phones, but on the whole, I am very satisfied with my decision.

Random FYI... Double press down volume when screen is off opens camera. (options in settings to open and immediately take pic or just open)
I figure you already know and just miss the convenience of the home button location but... Just in case...

Yup, there is that one. But it's also a little more awkward that way. It's just as easy to double-tap the screen and swipe into the camera app. The home key on the Samsung was perfect, because I could bring the phone to landscape orientation, double tap, and bam, ready to go. It's rare that I need to get a picture THAT fast that I need to, but it was really convenient.

I love almost everything about it, but If this thing had a brighter or amoled screen I would never get another phone.

Do not bring AMOLED INTO IPS!!! Every single phone i had with AMOLED screen (10 to be precise), all of them developed burn in image. LOL I will never buy another phone with AMOLED screen. Unless..... They A) fix the issue with the burn in image, and B) they manage to make it last at its full potential for at least 5 years and then after 5 years the pixels can start dying. Not to mention that many of the AMOLED screens from nowadays have removed soooooooo many important features in a phone such as removable battery and sd card slots. That alone makes me move within an instant to LG G or V series (AKA Large Giraffe as some people call it LOL)

Hahaha Yeah it would have to be a revised version of that hardware. I just find that the screen is way too dim outside. I even used that adaptive display mod which does help, but washes out the colors.

I literally just went from a note 4 to v20 and its amazing. The phone is so much more intuitive . tap screen to wake .fingerprint scanner unlocks phone faster than I can swipe. So much more. All around it just works better. I feel like all Samsung phones are the same. Bc I've had only Sammy past 8 years. I love this v20
