I have just ordered my 5X after a long debate, let's get some friends in here to do some testing when the device gets in their hands and Google drops source.
I just got the phone today, it is a wonderful device so far, I think when we optimize it a bit and get ubermallow on it, it will fly and outperform the N6 quite easily.

I am actually working on getting us a device tree, since google hasn't started one, and then vendor blobs. I will try to have something up and running by the weekend if I don't smash my skull in lol.
Definitely happy to test your kernel. Expecting the device tomorrow and the USB c to a cable next week.

I am sure you read about the chirping sound of the vibration motor. Once kernel source drops, would it be possible to create a stock kernel that has a lower vibration intensity value, between 60 and 70? Is the intensity value being too high the reason why it makes a chirping sound?

Got my Nexus 4 today.
Half an hour ago I realized some constant noise coming out of the top speaker, all the time.
It's very quiet but it's definitely there. Sometimes it sounds like if you have your phone near a radio or anything else with speakers.
Anyone else got the same problem? Might this drain battery?
No issue like that here.
Edit: After further investigation in a quieter place. I do hear a slight sound. As if the top speaker is on.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
I just checked. It is really barely noticeable, but it is there!
Let's try to narrow this down...
If you have the issue, write down if it's dependent upon anything.
Does disabling "touch sounds" fix it?
How about disabling noise cancellation?
If you blast some quick bursts of compressed air at it, does it fix it?
If you mute all the volumes, does it help/fix it?
Could you freeze the audio controller app (don't recall the name atm) in system/app?
I got mine today and don't have that issue

I hope someone with the time and dedication will create a thread with a checklist of all the problems, so new owners can check if they have any of those problem and decide whether or not to return the unit.
Also have it here, I'll be surprised if this isn't a common issue.

Me too, just made my first call and noticed it. Its the same if the volume is on or off.

^^ This. I just checked my Sony Xperia ion and it seems to be going "click..click..click..click..click..." over and over, with nothing going on. I bet a huge number of phones have this normally. How many of the "issues" we're seeing are actually just normal phone things, and people are just being overly picky just because it's THIS phone?
No issue here, at least not a constant buzzing.

This has a high chance to come from the last kernel version ! Anyone using linux may have noticed this from the last kernel update of the sound driver , i think somehow related to the powersaving . It's surely annoying but not a big deal, more software related than a hardware defect.

That noise is the combined anguished screams of those who couldn't get through on order day or who got back ordered.
Google records them on all android fans and then plays them back over the Nexus 4 at low volume.
Andy Rubin says it makes him smile and helps him sleep.

Does anyone else have a really mushy vibrate in there nexus 4, I can here it spinning. It's not crisp like my old Galaxy S.

Yep. My most irritating (and only real) issue. Something tells me they're all like that. You can only hear it when it's really quiet but it's super annoying.
I would recommend downloading FauxClock from the market. It is the app everyone is using to change then screen colors. It has an option to change the vibration setting. Default is 70% and you can see if it can be fixed.

RMA it OP..tell em the vibrator is not good and makes weird noises
There was another read I read a week ago stating that the vibration on the N4 is different from the other phones. I don't remember what it is exactly that I read but it was somewhere close to the lines that it feels more realistic or something. I probably don't make any sense right now, but it's working as intended not a defect.
I just increased the strength and it feels so much better now.

OP can flash a custom kernel such as Franco to change the vibration control.
Use their respective app to change vibration or use the free alternative, Trickster Mod (Play Store)

The Nexus 4 use a linear motor instead of the more common rotational, counterbalanced variety. It is quieter and much more controlled. I very much prefer it.

^^ What he said, pretty much sounds like the same thing I read. If I'm not mistaken, it might of been you who I read that from in another thread.
I prefer it as well, day one I used my N4 I was like wow this feels different but in a good way. I've been in situations where my vibration of my phone is so loud and I can hear it outside of my pocket. Sitting in class and not being able to deny the call or whatever.
I can't grasp how Google thought that a fricking fart under your fingertips is a good thing. Using faux now with vibration set back to 58%, it's far from the short burst I'm used to from the gnex but bearable. It could heal the washed out colors as well. Dunno why Google doesn't calibrate, it diminishes the value of their devices.

Agreed. I notice the difference with the haptic feedback on all the key presses. I prefer it as well.
Actually, the first thing I commented on about the phone was how nice the haptic feedback felt when I first opened it up. I much prefer the linear motor in the Nexus 4, as opposed to the unbalanced rotational vibrator in anything else I've played with. It is tough to explain, but it just feels more controlled and clean.
Maybe mine is faulty then because it feels anything but clean. It doesn't feel like one pulse, there are lots of little after shocks.

If you get franco Kernel you can change the feedback strength (franco is 100 ... stock is 70).

Honestly, I'd like to see some kernel development.
And now I feel like a jerk. :/
Yeah I'm patiently waiting but there's not a lot of action going on. We need more devs on board to help each other out. Wish I could code to help.
Losing the stock apps is a problem for most people that bought this tablet though
If I ever get the time (unlikely...) I might take a crack at Omni.
I'm kind of waiting to see how the new Nexus rumors pan out. If the next Nexus tablet has a K1, that'll make Android L a lot easier.
There's also, as some people said, the fact that there are quite a lot of stock features of the device that are actually quite nice. There's also the fact that the stock firmware is quite clean, reducing the need to tweak it.
Some of the stock apps really don't want to play nicely, I've tried installing the controller app though adb with necessary lib for the controller recently but had an issue with an incompatible user. I looked through the file that has all of that info Haven't had a ton of time to flip between stock/cm and progress any more than that.

Tbh, I think we're lucky to have the roms that are currently being developed. The SHIELD isn't exactly the most popular tablet and with the Nexus coming everyones gonna jump on that. The roms we have now are pretty darn decent and the dev's are doin good work. We shouldn't rush them or ask more from them, and the tablets still fairly new. I'm sure by the end of the year we'll have plenty of things to play with, hopefully a good kernel as well!
What ROM's are you interested in?
Close to stock but ability to over clock, some more mods, improvement in audio. Maybe a way to improve GPU performance.

That's a problem even on stock.
There's a slight chance I might take a crack at a kernel with some small fixes (such as my micro idle accounting patch for conservative...), but I can assure you, you'll never see overclock coming from me. Current devices are all thermally limited as it is, overclock is pointless, it just makes you hit the thermal barriers faster. It's also the #1 reason why many OEMs try to voice your warranty the moment you unlock the bootloader.

Have to agree too. Overclocking is pointless. Last time I needed it was for my S2 years ago.
I'm buying the controller this weekend and reverting to a stock ROM, I'm guessing at this point I'm in the same position as most owners where unless stock apps can run on AOSP ROMs, I'll be sticking with stock.
Which means my only want then would be a nicely optimised stock ROM, maybe a theme or two and a tweakable (not overclocking) kernel.
And before anyone says it, I do not EXPECT this or demand this, it'd just be nice

You guys are the experts! I'll be happy with whatever I can get.
I just hope that either Nvidia will support the device for a LONG time or we can have some devs that keep supporting the device long into the future. Just in case you guys havnt heard it, Nvidia have said that this device defiantly will be getting android L.
Am I the only one whose gps does not work on custom Roms?!?!!!! All of em gmaps says no gps hardware found. I could probably live with the screen touch issue if GPS worked. Need it for Ingress ?

I agree as well Overclocking is really pointless. A kernel with fastcharge would be nice though.
It's so bad i can hear it vibrating/echoing. Is everyone else's this strong? And if you have/had a 3/3T do you think it is a lot stronger?
There's an option to decrease the vibration and intensity and even the vibration pattern. You could try that.
Oh boy.
Yes. As the other guy mentioned. You can decrease the intensity in setting.
But also: I am coming from a htc10. The OP5 is way more quiet / weaker than my 10. If you think the OP5 is loud, the htc 10 would be an earthquake to you ;D

Coming from the s7, the haptic feedback is so strong, even on Light intensity... It would have been nice if it was more refined The s7 is far superior in this aspect.
Regarding htc10, when I first got that in hand, the haptic feedback was a instant no go for me :-s

Coming from the Galaxy S4, the vibration on the OP5 is much too weak for my tastes.
Is it still too strong? I recall reading that an update lowered the intensity overall. Does anyone know what was changed? I'd like to be able to increase it back (if safe to do so). Hoping it's rom based and not kernel. Or if it's kernel, maybe a custom kernel already has it increased
In the past I've used Mokee in my HTC Desire HD I was really happy
Thought of trying in my 1+1 ..well if you don't care about charging led when the phone is turned off and no percentage(just a simple animation) ..I didn't find any big issues
