Cool
If you didn't know how OLED works it might be cool.
But IMHO it is totally useless, why would I want to distort colors for some battery time?
I am sorry i really have the say the screen looks like your phone is going back to factory.
I do not want a AMOLED LED screen look like damaged nokia phone.
Anyway, still thanks for sharing
Maybe this app is useless but screen looks cool when you enable this and you can trick your friends that they broken your phone
The red filter could be useful at night, for preserving night vision as the author mentioned.

First I think some parts of the device won't be usable since graphics might not have any red in it.
Secondly, since when did anyone care about night vision combined with the use of a phone?
Maybe using it as a GPS, but most programs has a night mode anyways.
why all the negative comments.
android is all about options. if you forget your charger and need limited usage of the screen I could see where it would be useful.

Would it not be more useful to make everything dark instead?
Also, I would like to point out:
Even though some comments may be negative that is the whole thing about a discussion forum. People disagree and vent their opinions.
I look at the usability of what presented and thus venting my thougts on that, for instance this post and can see none.
I also already knew that red needs less electricity than blue OLEDs. That is true for LEDs as well I believe, or anything emitting light, since blue light carries more energy than red.
This could definitely be useful when you're desperate for battery but need to use your phone... ie you need to find a place and you're running out of battery.... It might not be revolucionary but it's nice to have the option to save some battery when you really need to...
@aeo087 - You are right. Could use this in case of emergency situation. Specially if u are away from charger or a usb port of pc and wants more juice from battery for like listening to FM or music.
I think this is excellent work.
At the very least it suggests using a simpler theme could have a big difference on battery life. I dont have a Galaxy S yet but when I do I will definitely be experimenting with this. Im hoping I could also use this OpenGL filter to have a low power mode, as suggested by dseo80, for use when you know your going to be away from a charger.
This would be awesome as low battery mode

This would be very useful to astronomers, like myself, who would like to use their phones or tabs under the stars and not ruin their night vision.
It's one option that I would almost KILL to have. Someone please do this.
All the apps claiming that our battery backup will double are nothing but useless piece of crap.

Dear all so I do a bit of reading laying on bed and lower the brightness levels to the lowest level but the nexus remains too bright. What app are you using to lower brightness further, am rooted running a stock 4.2.1rom please
Get a good reader app, like Moon Reader+.
It has a variety of night settings, like brown ink on a black background.

My wife used to complain about the brightness of my tablet while she was trying to sleep. I found a simple solution...I divorced her.
Nah, I'm kidding, we are still happily married. I use Aldiko Book Reader and set it to white text on a black background and that has pretty much resolved the issues.
Some kernels, like metallice's M-kernel and clemsyns battery saving kernel actually allow the brightness of the screen to go lower than on stock. Like, REALLY low

Is there a web browser that allows to set all pages that are normally black letters on white to the opposite (white text on black)?
I don't know of a browser, but I save articles from the browser to Pocket, which is set to white on black for late night reading

I think a screen filter is the way to go. This one lets you adjust rgb, just set r,g,b to their lowest and set the filter to it's highest.

On a weird note, I was seeking this app out because I saw an interesting episode of the nature of things. It's a canadian show so some might not have heard of it. This episode was called lights out, it described the health issues people have by simply being exposed to light (from electricity) that we wouldn't normally have been, because as far as man goes, electricity is a recent phenomenon. Anyway, it seems not all light is bad, for example exposure to light sources from a flame at night (as our ancestors would) does not have this ill effect. They were basically saying it's light in the blue spectrum (similar to the day sky) that affects our production of melatonin and can give rise to cancer and other ill health effects.
It's may sound silly but the episode had me thinking to lower blue light spectrum from electronics at night before going to bed.
The episodes live stream but I wanted to watch them on the subway. They are an rtsp stream for mobile. I was hoping vlc for android had the ability to record an rtsp like it's desktop counterpart but it doesn't. What's the point of vlc on android if it loses the bulk of it's features? Does anyone know a way of capturing an rtsp stream? I know of linux utilities that can but the rtsp stream address comes out fairly convoluted and I think it redirects to the actual stream behind the scenes.
They don't stream to the US, but if anyone wants to check out the episode I'm talking about it's here:
http://www.cbc.ca/natureofthings/episode/lights-out.html
And if anyone has a way of capturing these streams it would be greatly appreciated.

+1 to Lux. Worth the cost, and fixed (masked) the screen flicker issues I was having from the WiFi ground.
Hi All,
Do you have concerns on the auto brightness?
The display change response is relatively slow. Also, when I get a call and take the mobile out of my pocket. the display is dimmed, and the sun light it is hard to see who is calling, it takes like one second or so to have the right brightness then i can see who is calling.
do you have the same issue?, if yes, do you have a solution?
Thanks,
Lux on play store. ..or vellis autobright X da or playstore

I got LUX app. it is good. thanks alot Christiancs. But did you face the same problem?
Thanks,
Auto-brightness is designed to wait for a few seconds to ensure that the change in the environment wasn't a brief blink (such as car lights passingby). Regardless of device, this is normal. I initially found the delay rather annoying. However after some time got quite fond of it, and now I always keep brightness on auto

Thanks alot for your reply.
I download a nice application from the market called (LUX). it gives you the option to make the calls use the maximum brightness. and for the rest it has quicker response.
The bad thing about it is that it is not for free (almost 3 USD) and it consumes around 5 MB from the RAM.
Thanks,

Paying for an app is not necessarily a bad thing. They actually are beneficial to you in several ways. First, they do not serve ads and thus actually reduce resource usage as well as your data usage. Second, you are supporting a great developer in creating such useful applications which may provide encouragement to further create wonderful software. Finally, by paying for apps you are actually minimizing the risk of malware - keep in mind that the majority of malicious code is embedded in free apps in order to maximize the potential harm.
Glad you found a solution to your problem.
Ok so I'm tired of flashing ROM's and have home stock rooted on NC4. I really only do it so I can tether for free. So my question is how do I enable tether without getting the warning that I have to pay for it? I can't find entitlement check in settings database on sqlite. Please help. Thanks

The only method I know of is an Xposed module. I know for certain Wanam Xposed has the option to turn off tether provisioning. There seems to be a disconnect when rooting that causes 3rd party apps like what verizon requires to use hotspot/tethering. Many custom apps take care of the issue for us, but as for how to do this without either of the aforementioned solutions I do not know.

Thanks for trying. All of the ROM devs do it somehow. Even stripped down objective rom is able to do it. I was just wondering how? I made the big mistake of doing a full data wipe on the stock slot and bricked my phone big time. I had to Odin NC4 tar file to bring it back and now am 100% stock rooted and frankly becoming bored with flashing stuff. Almost ready to go to Crapple but there's no working around the tether provision on there I'm sure. I just can't seem to find anything to my liking.
Once again thanks you're the only one that's ever answered me after asking twice.

My pleasure.
Just taking a guess but I think it would be a build.prop edit.
I hear you about flashing roms, I have flashed many times. Of course along the way I have learned a lot, not enough to give in to the desire to learn how to dev yet, lmao. I also know the woes of the "OMG did I brick my phone?" But still I would never go to Apple. I really don't like proprietary companies, as Samsung has become a big one, I may never buy a Samsung again, however the great thing about Android is that we have choices, and as reluctant as I have been and even still am, as a consumer I have the choice to leave Verizon for someone how will give me the freedoms I believe I pay for. So far I just haven't been willing to sacrifice certain benefits, but as they become more and more outweighed by imposed restrictions, capitalism gives me the right to choose what who I give my money to.

I have no idea how to do build.prop edits. Really all I would like is a nice simple ROM with some light theming, "inverted theming actually", that I can add what I want. Objective ROM seems awesome but I can't seem to find a set of inverted apps to my liking. I ran Objective for one night went to bed @ 90% & woke up at 90% 7 hours later although at that point I didn't add anything to it. Really the only app I can't find inverted that will work is Gmail.
I really wish I knew how to do some of this stuff myself I'd make my own ROM but I haven't a clue.
Once again thanks.

I have the same desires for inverted apps, and of course the couple of people that actually work on themed Gapps seem to keep Gmail on the back burner. I used All Backs Black theme which covers most TW stuff (settings, dialer, mms). I was on Objective for a while but then I learned how to debloat myself because some things I wanted to use on Objective were broken because of everything that has been removed from that rom. What I've found is that with a good amount of debloating, battery life can be good on any rom. While never quite as good as on Objective, Eclipse and Alliance have both shown good battery length. For example yesterday after reflashing Alliance to fix something I broke, I started with around 60% at about 2pm, and put it on charge at around 20% at around 9pm. The entire time my screen was on and I was doing stuff on it. 7 hours of on screen time for 40% battery and all before the 48 hour period of rom settlement.
My standby battery drain is almost always as it was on Objective losing no more than 2% over an 8 hour period.

I also tried that All Backs Black theme (kudos to him). I also tried Eclipse (1st ROM I ever flashed on a phone, OG Moto Razr) but it doesn't come stock inverted for the most part and requires you to pay now to get the inverted theming (boo).
I just want something nice and simple like Objective and dark theming (only so it's easier to see when I'm driving especially at night, my eyes are very sensitive to light). I really don't use all of the cool features of this phone because I really only have it for it's screen size & being able to use the pen for swiping (typing). I'm a truck driver in case you can't tell & just need to stay connected while on the road. I've just recently starting using email to communicate with dispatch and the office so I don't need a whole lot of features on my phone. It's why I liked Objective so much.

Completely understandable. Good luck with your tethering situation.
It's amazing how much we actually use our phones in a given day, especially when we watch "videos"! Rate this thread to express how many hours of screen-on time you can get on the Redmi 9 before depleting the battery.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
Somebody please share some screenshots. No good battery tests on YouTube yet. This could be the best budget phone depending on how good battery life is with that mediatek soc and if it ever gets root. Looks like gcam is already available because of camera2api enabled by default. It will be well balanced at everything especially performance at this price but battery life should be the first priority imo
Getting 10 hours screen on time! This is ****in great...
All stock, just debloated with a ADB script to get rid of this xiaomi software like the MIUI browser and stuff like that...
Yeah it lags in demanding situations but it's not to bad, especially when I think about the price - I paid 99 Euros for my Galahad... Crazy times in the mobile tech world!
It's a gorgeous 6,5 screen, well built and definitely usable, even though it's a MTK device...
I'm absolutely surprised about what you get for little money!
Cheers

That's the one I used but I edited as desired to include/exclude certain Apps I specifically use/don't use...
There's an App called "App inspector" on Playstore which allows you to easily lookup the App's package name so you can reference it in the script.
This will only hide the Apps for User 0, the main user, so actually you - the correct ADB command will bring back the App if needed, alternatively a factory reset would let those Apps reappear. To you it seems uninstalled, which is totally sufficient in my opinion, rather than actually uninstalling them (which would need a unlocked bootloader and root).
There are quite a few ADB debloater scripts on XDA which is probably worth looking into because there you can discuss, ask or contribute - not a bad thing when you're new to this!
