Flash stock rom without cable? - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm still on 5.0, but I really want 5.1.
The problem though, is that my usb input connector got damaged, and the PC doesn't connect correctly to the phone. Software update by phone doesn't work, since it is rooted and it tells me the software isn't legit, even though it's on stock (+root).
Is there a way to get it to update without my PC? I also want stock before I send in my phone to repair (I also got another problem, and I still have my warranty, which I might lose if it's still rooted).
edit: also, ODIN mobile is not available for the Note 4 iirc

I can't help with transferring the stock rom, but if you are rooted, the update fails as you are now on custom software. Also, unrooting will not reset your Knox counter so your warranty is still void even if you did reflash 5.0.1 or 5.1.1.

root means no warranty, you need to repair your USB in order to reflash no other way possible just repair it.

Check whether the micro USB port or the USB Cable are damage
Check if your Computer USB port is damage
Avoid using USB HUB when you flash your phone
FYI, by ROOTing your phone, your warranty is officially void.
You can try claiming the warranty as some people still can get it with rooted device.
Other way to flash Stock ROM is try to repackage the ROM in a flashable ZIP format.

Revert it back to stock for a start means using Odin to flash the stock rom. Do you know what rom it was on when it was stock? Or did it have Bell Branding on it?

Good Luck
I would remove root, but as long as you didnt flash the phone you should be fine.
I say flash because the system has an internal flash counter, samsung can tell if you've been flashing your phone
what do u guys mean flash? and it did not have a bell branding
Flash means install a firmware or part of a firmware.
Rooting voids warranty so you need to remove root by flashing a stock rom .
Reset the custom rom counter with USB jig .

I had a similar problem, I'd rooted the phone and had the yellow warning triangle when turning the phone on.
So I flashed a stock rom (the original one that was installed when I bought the phone) using odin and this solved the problem, the warning triangle had gone, the phone was like new.
I too had to send one back for Warranty repair, it had been rooted and custom roms installed a number of times. I reset the counter using a USB jig (Download mode jig which resets the rom counter), and reinstalled the Stock Vodafone ROM. They did what they did and sent the phone back to me, no questions asked. If you have had custom roms on there rather than stock ones with non-stock kernels I would advise getting the jig.

I removed the Yellow triangle, is it still recommended for me to use the jig

Don't bother resetting Custom Binary counter!
I have done warranty replacement and was never asked a question why I had flashed custom ROM 7 times!
You just flash official ROM back and you should be good to go folks. Infact NOWHERE in Samsung's documentation it says you can't root or install custom ROM on the phone or it would void the warranty! Even when we get the warning while entering download mode, it never tells you that it will void the warranty!
So essentially there should be no worry for warranty claims even when you accidentally left custom ROM with root on the phone while doing warranty claims. Let me know if ANYONE out here had a different experience and I have NEVER seen claims getting rejected for these reasons!!!

Agreed! I got my screen replaced even i was on custom rom. They flashed the stock rom back thou
But i quess you can't do warranty claims if you take your bootlooping phone to repair centre caused by flashing custom roms.

Bravo going back for warranty repair-unroot? UPDATE.

Hey all-
My Bravo's USB port is borked, won't hold a connection any longer, so I've got an RMA for repair. My understanding is that if the phone is rooted, the warranty is void. So, I'm assuming I have to unroot (used SuperOneClick to root, and will use it to unroot) it before shipping it back to Motorola. My questions are:
Do I need to uninstall any apps I installed while the phone was rooted?
Is there anything else I need to do to the phone before returning it?
Many thanks for any and all advice.

Took me a while to find it, but I finally figured out how to get into recovery. Thanks.
FWIW, I did the stock ROM recovery wipe, but superuser was still in my app drawer on reboot, so apparently this doesn't unroot the phone. Sent it out anyway, with a security lock. If they can get past this (and I bet they can, but hopefully won't bother) and decide I've voided the warranty, guess I'll just live with crappy USB port.

Well, since the USB port was non-functional, flashing with anything was out. I'm hoping they just see the port is useless and send me a new one or refurb. I really like the phone and, if Motorola discovers it's rooted and voids my warranty, I'll have to start over with a new model. Just got off chat with an AT&T sales rep and there was nothing they were willing to do for me, except steer me to a local store.
I was using my wife's Captivate last night. Not bad, but more of a handful than the Bravo.
So, for those of you sitting on the edge of your seats wondering how this warranty return went, I got the phone back the other day, no problemo. Same phone, so somehow the repair wizards were able to put a new USB port in. Groovy.
I am still wondering why, when I did a factory restore, Superuser remained installed. My being able to root the device and use ADB to install .apk packages from the command line is the limit of my knowledge (now using Side Load Wonder Machine instead). My attempts at getting SuperOneCLick to unroot the phone all met with failure, so I sent the phone in with fingers crossed; now I would very much like to use BandroidX's BravoX ROM, but am not sure how to proceed at this point. Any help is much appreciated.
First off... Motorola has released an official app that allows installing of apks from unknown sources so you don't have to use SLWM. The exact name slips my mind, bravo non market enabler maybe? Do a little searching in the market and you'll find it.
As for flashing bandroidx's rom... he has instructions in his release thread. If you need more detailed instructions, post back and i can help you out more.
Remember to be cautious and be prepared to flash the 2.2.1 sbf if something goes wrong.
Ah, yes, thanks. Bravo Sideload Enabler. Who knew? I'll read up on the BravoX ROM again, but that thread does go on.
Hey can somebody upload the apk file of motorola sideloader enabler for bravo?
I cant download it here in my country, I live outside US.
Please!!!

[Q] Need instructions to return to stock without USB

The USB port on my Nexus 7 has failed. It will not charge and none of my PC's, all of which have the correct drivers installed and have always worked perfectly, will recognize the Tablet. I contacted Google Play and they said because it was rooted they wouldn't look at it, but if it was returned to stock they would be happy to inspect and repair any defects.
Is there any way to return it to stock without a USB connection? I called Asus and they estimated the repair at $231, more than the price of a new tablet.
If not, does anyone know of a repair facility that might repair it for less than the cost of a new tablet?
I have never used it, but ADB Wireless might be your solution.

Also if it's just a matter of unrooting, SuperSU has the ability to do a complete unroot.
Leaves everything else intact.
Or you can flash a stock rooted ROM via recovery (transfer using Box, Copy, Dropbox, or WiFi Explorer)
Then, providing it has SuperSU, do the unroot deal.
Only remnants will the custom recovery.

Nexus 7 Suddenly Dead Touch Screen

Hi! I was using my N7 3G reading the news and suddenly it became unresponsive. It took about 2 seconds to recognize my touch. So i decided to turn it off and turn it back on. But after it turned back on the touch screen is completely dead. I can't even unlock it. Power and volume buttons still work. I'm on CM 10.1.3
I even forced reboot it many times by holding the power button for about 20s but that didn't help. Anyone ever had this issue too? It seems like a hardware problem. If that's the case i would have it repaired by ASUS but I'm afraid that I won't get warranty because I'm not on stock ROM+rooted+unlocked bootloader
Can you get into recovery? If so, try wiping the cache partition first to see if that helps.
If that doesn't help, do you have usb debugging enabled? If so,
should be able to use the Nexus 7 toolkit. Just boot your tablet, plug it in your machine, fire up the Nexus 7 toolkit and have it unroot and relock your BL.
You might also want to try and see if you can backup your data partition and your internal storage with the N7 toolkit. If you can do that, then you won't lose any of your data or application settings.
You should also be able to flash it back to stock as well via the toolkit and have it erase the user data.
If usb debugging is NOT enabled, then you might be hosed. You could at least do a factory reset in the main recovery.
Other than that, not much else can probably be done unless you want to open your tablet yourself and ensure all the connections are tight. There might be a lose connection for the digitizer and that's all you would need to do to fix it. Of course, that voids your warranty if you open it yourself. I don't know exactly where the hook up is. I'm sure a quick Google will tell you how to fix this if it's possible.
It definitely sounds like either your digitizer is bad or it's got a lose connection.
Good luck!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 4
thanks for your help. I was going to plug it in my PC BUT IT'S WORKING AGAIN. I was like WTF lol  . So it must be a lose connection i guess .
By the way, I'm planning to go back to stock in case it happen again so that i can get my warranty at ASUS. And I don't know much about rooting/ flashing so I want to ask some questions .
1. Can I flash google's stock ROM just like flashing other ROMs like CM with bootloader unlocked?
2. Have you tried KitKat. If so have you experienced battery drain? The only reason I rooted and installed CM is that I hate the battery draining issue. I had it since I updated my N7 3G to 4.2.2 and it kept happenings in 4.3
Anyway thanks a lot :good:
So far no major issue with battery and yes flashing process is the same just be careful u need to update ur bootloader to go to 4.4 and flashing wrong bootloader will brick ur device to be careful and read every thing.
Please ignore my spelling mistakes. English is not my native language.

Well, I used wug's nexus root toolkit to root and unlock bootloader. If I use the option:"go back to stock lock bootloader and flash stock", can I install update from OTA like normal again?

Unlocked Version not getting Android 10 update

Hi all,
I tried searching for it here and in other sources but couldn't find anything that would help since this is an unlocked version.
I am not getting any updates or the Android 10 update and its already end of February, is this normal?
FYI the phone was purchased unlocked in the US but I'm living in Jordan.
Give it a check whether your device does actually get any updates using Frija here:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/tool-frija-samsung-firmware-downloader-t3910594/
Just need to find the correct CSC.
If there is a new firmware it means your device some how couldnt get OTA to work properly. you may wanna check whether your device's knox is void.
All how-to mentioned above can be found in xda.

So I checked it on Frija as you said and it turns out there is a software update (Android 10) for my phone. The problem is that I got some updates after purchasing but now it is stuck on November security update. Do you recommend I wait for an OTA or maybe flash it manually?

Lets go with some more checks to make sure your phone is still OTA-able
1. Manually check for update: go to Settings -> Software Update -> Download and install see if you can get any updates. If you are on a VPN or proxy, try without it just in case the update server somehow gets blocked (doubt that. but... lets give it a try)
2. Go to download mode: Vol down + Bixby + Power combination and check the Knox status. if your knox is intact you should see something like Warranty void 0x0. If its 0x1 then your Knox is void and this is permanent Samsung makes sure of that. Unless you get a mainboard replaced, i dont think you are able to get OTA working again.
3. Use Samsung SmartSwitch on PC (with your phone connected) see if it can update your phone, the "official" way.
3b. Or try flashing a latest stock firmware, again, stock firmware, with Odin. you must use the HOME_CSC... not CSC... to keep existing apps and data. Then wait for the next update see if OTA works.
Flashing a stock firmware should not void your Knox nor cause any problems. Just be careful of the risk of losing exising data.

Hmmm then maybe i was guessing wrong the whole time. maybe theres nothing wrong with your phone. its your unlocked (unbrand) us. normally carriers (brand ones) would be pushing updates faster. maybe you will need to wait for samsung to push the updates for unbrand phones, which could be usually slower. am not sure.
maybe you might wanna go with the flashing option. you using stock firmware so there shouldnt be any risks and would be pretty easy do to just follow the steps.
sorry i wasnt helpful enough mate
Edit: just wanna share 1 more thing i been suffering with latest update. if you upgrade to 10 and one ui 2.0, android (and/or samsung) has completely blocked using custom fonts. gxfonts wings or other theming apps no longer works with changing fonts. so if you re using custom fonts it will survive the update just make sure you dont change it or you will lose it. am almost abt to give up knox to go root now.

Thanks a lot mate, you've helped by showing me that there's nothing wrong.
As with any update there are always problems, so considering to just keep waiting for the OTA for now, it's not like there are new features in it, Samsung already have everything you could ever think of.
