I always taking note using the s pen and action memo, if cyanogenmod or aokp roms don't support s pen, do you have any alternatives or other options?
Thank you for your help.
There are many alternatives to Samsung apps and some people can live with them. But to keep it short: yes, anything other then a TW ROM will turn the spen useless.
For the simple fact that I don't have air comands I don't use aosp roms. The battery life is also very bad on them.
I was in CM11 for nearly 6 months. It was like using a normal smartphone, not much Note features there.
So I switched back to Touchwiz based ROM after Lollipop.
AryaMod now ?
And yes battery life is better in TW based ROM and also you have variety of Kernels to flash for saving power like Arter etc
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Yes, pretty much the S Pen is useless with any CM/ AOSP based ROMs. You will have to use Papyrus or something like that instead of S Note, you will then have to install an app so that pop up thing might come (or might not) up when you pull out the S Pen. Awful experience anyway, as good as not having an S Pen like someone already mentioned above.
And to add further my personal findings, more or less everything is better in TouchWiz based ROMs, and no I don't give a damn about anyone saying otherwise.
Cm is not for tw lovers. Nor for noobs

There IS a way to use the S-Pen on AOSP ROMs, but it's not free. There's a paid app called SPenCommand, and you won't find it on the Play Store because Google purged any app that is toying with SELinux. The app itself emulates the behavior if TouchWiz, as well as Air Command's visual style.
But yes, consider again that AOSP ROMs don't have the battery life of TouchWiz, and regarding the S-Pen, they're somewhat limiting.

I don't know, because I rarely get to the point where I am left without battery.
When I was on tesla a few weeks ago, it was absolutely horrible.
Basically, yes. CM/AOSP doesn't come with Wacom drivers.
I think there are some third party options, but as for how or how well they work, I don't know.
Installing CM/AOSP turns your Note into a generic smartphone.

(And no, I have no idea why my phone is obsessed with the number 47.)

Unfortunately a simple App (like SPenCommand I've created) cannot do all what a dedicated environment (a modified Android version) can do.
For example AirScroll feature is not replicabile without changing Android Core files.
I think 80% of TW (at least the stylus part) could be replicabile creating an Xposed Module, but it takes a lot of time.
Samsung has got many developers, money and experience so it's a bit harder for an independent developer to compete with it.
I create SPenCommand with all my idea but any other idea/suggestion is well accepted if it is implementable in the App, I'm always open to all suggestions

Hey Guys
So I am coming up from an HTC Evo 4G..(not LTE) so you already know this phone is a come up for me. I noticed, however, that the phone is running a tad slowly. Here are a few examples, maybe you all could help me out.
First - when I put in my password pin the phone will lag and catch up when I press OK. Now, technically, this is not that much of an issue because the phone opens up when I press OK...but to see that lag is a little disconcerting.
Second - if I am typing some messages the keyboard will miss certain inputs in my typing. Now maybe I am typing a little too fast, but, come on? I know I am touching those keys... I am using SmartKeyboard but I figure that could be an issue too.
I notice that my ram climbs up pretty high. I clear all my programs...but still. Anyway to remove this bloatware?
Finally is there a root out yet?
Thanks guys. Sorry for the litany of questions

Either debloat for yourself or flash a custom ROM.

There is a root available for the phone as well as a stock ROM that is entirely free of bloatware located here.
The lag may, in fact, be the keyboard you're using. The most popular keyboard of choice - and for good reason - is SwiftKey; have you given this keyboard a shot? I use it myself and type extremely fast and it keeps up better than my iPhone 4S ever did.

You can try to uninstall most of the bloatware apps but a lot of them aren't able to be uninstalled which is why people root and head to a custom ROM.
Sooner or later you'll find yourself flashing AOSP ROMs for a complete Vanilla stock Android experience and a performance increase and flashing often.
It's an addiction, I caution you my friend!

o yes, i understood that. but I just don't want to brick this thing...I'm a little nervous about that
its kinda hard to brick any samsung galaxy phone.. u would have to do thing really stupid for a brick
100% stock here and using the stock samsung keyboard I also can validate the lag and skippy issues. The chief editor over at phone dog goes over and over about this. So its kind of a known issue. I am coming from the s3 and it was smoother when it came to typing and multitasking. I end freezing and dropping frames a lot I am hoping samsung comes up with a fix.

I dont see a bug thread so this is the closet thing. Anyone have problems with youtube top bar? Its starts normal then I switch from landscape to portrait and the top bar seems to reflect different parts of the app. Since you guys dont like bloatware are there any sprint apps you actually like?

Only 6 months after it's release? Wow thanks samsung!
Ok, sarcasm aside, i guess giving the amount of devices that aren't even being updated at all, this is good news. But still, we know independent developers do nothing short of small miracles a few days after the official google release. Though i'm still imensly grateful to every dev and they're the only reason for me still having this phone, a proper samsung developing team with the proper resources has the obligation to do better and faster, so i can't help but to feel a bit screwed over by them. They surely aren't doing it because they care about the client, else their attitude would be different so there must be a different agenda in the background. On my expense. I shouldn't need to feel grateful when they release an update. Not when what i bought never worked properly to begin with with samsung's development nor it never will even with 3rd party development while samsung doesn't will it.
So, I'm not planning on still having my S3 by then. They didn't really do much during my phone's lifetime to keep me for a client. They still don't. To be rather honest all i found on samsung was disapointment. So, as soon as i'll have the chance, i'll try to replace it. I'm here to be proven wrong but my expectations for anything coming from samsung are really low at this point.
The way Omnirom is developing, they're soon going to make the stock ROM's obsolete. Stable nightly's coupled with "as good as stock" battery life, I'm definitely never going back to samsung base roms
I just installed OmniROM and it is already awesome, after adding customizable tiles in the quick select menu it will be perfect. The only thing that I miss from the stock rom is camera software and camera drivers and overall working. Everything else is better in OmniROM.

they'll tell us that touchwiz doesnt run on 4.4. thats why they cant release it
no more touchwiz devices for me.

That picture looks like the beginning of the reason why they're suddenly "delaying" the official 4.3 rollout.
Im currently using a Galaxy S 3 with Cyanogen mod. I have been using it for about a 3 months now and I have really grown attached to it. Stock rom + custom launcher perhaps?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
X-Note is great. Has every feature any custom ROM can build into. Not a fan of TW? Install a theme or change launchers. The SPen only works on Samsung framework, so it's got to be a TW based ROM if you want to exploit the full functionality of the phone.
Omega Rom + Smart Debloater = best Rom for Note 3
No such thing as a good ROM, they're all great. Individual preference is key. Plus thread breaks xda rules.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The features you will be giving up to get a CM based ROM aren't worth the gains in my opinion. The TW based debloated ROMs are great for the Note 3, and with Xposed Modules you can do almost everything you can do on AOSP ROMs (Halo etc). However that's not the case if you get an AOSP rom, there is no way to get the S-Pen features back (there are alternatives but they don't work nearly as well nor can they do as much).
As a previous user said, try the X-NOTE rom...super customizable.

Sent from my fingers to your face using my custom Note 3 with 0x0 KNOX!
Hello, I have a GN10.1 2014 and I was an ex owner of a GN10.1 2012, my question is quite simple, does the custom roms actually get rid of the lag when you draw ? I will be more specific, I didn't had any kind of lag on my old GN and now with the new screen (double the pixels) I have to use the 2x mode to draw smoothly... which mean that it's like drawing with the old one.
That occur with Layerpaint and Layerpaint HD, I own these 2 on the old one and I have to say I barely use them now because of that responsiveness. Sketchbook is cooler but of course (and I guess you noticed) it's zoomed in.
Can anyone confirm that it's getting better by installing a custom rom specifically to draw ? I don't want to lose the warranty (knox), because here now they check if you installed a custom rom or not...
Thanks in advance !

if it helps, i am on a custom rom and no lag with snote that i have experienced (have only had this a few weeks). I was recently makin a list of the plugins and various settings for my n64 emulator, for each game i have, and i had both snote and the emulator multiwindowed to make the task easier. Both apps ran well and no lag. Games were still playable and snote very responsive.

For drawing on Note 10.1 2014 edition, I recommend Artflow studio. I get no lag whatsoever using that.

But first... Can you please tell me if I should install the kernel first and then the ROM, or is it the other way around?
I don't want to make any mistakes.

You have to turn off the force gpu rendering, ull see a notable change in how smooth it is. Custom rom would help, gets rid of the crapware which eats up system resources and slowing down processor speed overall.

Flash rom see how you like then test out kernels you might want. You want to know the rom is working for you first then you can jump into adding other stuff, you know.
I'm trying to build a complete objective list of the things you will gain/lose when rooting and installing an AOSP rom. If you can think of any more to add, post away, I'll update the list.
Pros & Cons: Rooting GS5
Cons:
*The loss of
-Knox warranty
-S Health
-Camera App Functions
-Fingerprint Scanner
-One Handed Mode
-Heartrate Monitor
-Motions and Gestures
-Infrared
*AOSP tends to be buggier than TW
Pros:
*Unlock Wifi Tether
*Remove bloat
*No childish UI [this is an objective fact]
*Root apps, etc
I thought you could download a 3rd party infrared app (unless you meant native). BTW what are the camera app functions you were talking about specifically? *Also, in its early stages, AOSP tends to have more bugs than a TW ROM.

The opposite, it depends on the rom, but MOAR is both debloated and wifi tethering works, as well as a ton of other features and mods. If you want to read up on it, check out these two threads:

I like going AOSP for many reasons, 250MB roms vs 1.5GB roms., smoother transitions, even more customization (I use the home button to access quicksettings), quiet hours for class, consistent and quick update to latest version of android. There are lots of reasons to love AOSP.
I do miss the stability of touchwiz, plus camera features like slo-mo and 4k, but often they just have way too much bloat where it is often not worth the desired features.
