Im currently using a Galaxy S 3 with Cyanogen mod. I have been using it for about a 3 months now and I have really grown attached to it. But im getting a note 3 in a few days and apparently some features of the phone aren't going to work. Well im not the biggest fan of touch wiz. Basically all i'm looking for is a rom that looks Nice and Has all the features. Any suggestions?

Stock rom + custom launcher perhaps?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
X-Note is great. Has every feature any custom ROM can build into. Not a fan of TW? Install a theme or change launchers. The SPen only works on Samsung framework, so it's got to be a TW based ROM if you want to exploit the full functionality of the phone.
Omega Rom + Smart Debloater = best Rom for Note 3
No such thing as a good ROM, they're all great. Individual preference is key. Plus thread breaks xda rules.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The features you will be giving up to get a CM based ROM aren't worth the gains in my opinion. The TW based debloated ROMs are great for the Note 3, and with Xposed Modules you can do almost everything you can do on AOSP ROMs (Halo etc). However that's not the case if you get an AOSP rom, there is no way to get the S-Pen features back (there are alternatives but they don't work nearly as well nor can they do as much).
As a previous user said, try the X-NOTE rom...super customizable.

I just found the miui launcher the other day and after trying it realized there is VERY little I could remember about the rom that was different besides the launcher itself(which the independent app really did a good job of) and the status bar pulldown options. It had a few differences in settings like cm7 does.. but outside those little differences miui seems more launcher than rom.
I never gave revamped much of a try because I didn't like miui(for above reasons) and didn't see much difference..
Revamped has tweaks and things the devs do to make their version of miui the best it can be. Flash miui.us first and after a week flash revamped. See if you notice a difference in the level of awesomeness.
Vibrant+MIUI
I would also like to hear some user feedback of MIUI Revamped.
I came from CM7 and gave MIUI.US a shot, and haven't gone back since. I love the smoothness and the interface of the ROM. With Neo 17 my battery life is ridiculously good... and GPS works great with the CM7 GPS fix posted in the development section. I just don't know if I could want any more out of this phone currently. Its fast, battery efficient, everything works as it should...
I want to try revamped, and I surely will... but I am interested in some user feedback.
Sent from my T959 using XDA Premium App
Im running miui revamped and i must say ill never go back to 2.2 or gb.....its extremely fast, has added tweaks for modems and kernels,it is100%customizeable from status bar to dialer, message, dock, lock bar to lock screen, everything is customizeable.
Main diff. between the 2 is revamped comes packed with a powered well built kernel, script tweaks, and some apps that you may or may not find useful.
I did find that for me the kb5 modem works better for me than the ka7 modem it comes with.
Never tried stock miui before.now running on miui revamped ss + Bali 1.2.1 kernel. so far so smooth .battery life is good so far.
Go for miui revamped ss.... this rom made me stick with cm7 based gingerbread.

Circle launcher is pretty bad ass...it has lots of customization to it.

Here's a short post to tell y'all that I believe I have found the perfect phone. Its name is the Galaxy S II...
I've owned it since the first day my French carrier released it in June.
Like all of us, I've tweaked it in any conceivable way and tried quite a few exotic things (including pre-pre alpha ics builds) and now, I feel I don't really need to tweak it anymore because my combo feels just about perfect:
Revolution Rom 4 + Siyah kernel 2.4.2 + newly updated adw launcher ex with neon theme.
Fast, reliable, perfect.

Same setup here, it's extremely snappy. I prefer Launcher Pro I find it smoother, but yeah that's a great setup.
Make sure you get the second version of 2.4.2 which includes sched_mc=1 which saves battery, I find it smoother too.

Agree that no phone is perfect. You should say this is the best phone you have ever used instead. I was going to try same setup as you do and now I'm convinced.
It would be great IF it had a better audio chip. That is my only knock against it. The music quality is very poor even with my good earbuds. Bummer...
The perfect phone is one that elates me to planes equivalent to where vegetable matter would take me. Other than that, the sgs 2 is close.
Nothing is perfect but some things are closer to perfection than others, the sgs2 being one of them.

did u guys try MiUi by any chance ????????? its just awsome.
after i flashed miui i can't think of another way to make this phone even more perfect (except flashing miui 4.0 which is coming soon)
The perfect ultimate phone will have a feature that allows you to have 2 SIM cards which simultaneously work, this will probably be a long time coming but im sure it will happen, how cool would it be to have just 1 phone (i have 2 mobiles a SGSII and a Samsung Tocco - 1 Irish SIM and 1 UK SIM) where you can make a receive calls and use all the features, or just switch one off and have the other one on,etc, etc i do know there are dual SIM adapters but as far as im aware this doesn't allow you to have both SIM cards on at the same time you need to switch from one to the next.

MIUI ROM's for me is more style over substance, im not saying it's not good but there are far better ROM's out there.
It's not even perfect yet. ICS has yet to come out both unofficially and officially.
Still, the audio chip is still ****. No big deal anyway, I've learned to bear with it.
The perfect phone is different for everyone. But I agree with ccl. That combo is pretty damn close for me. I also undervolted mine btw and clocked up to 1400. Same battery time as before. Even better performance.

Native Dual SIM Android have been around for some time ... just not a SGS II.
One of it is LG Optimus Star.
Hey everyone,
I didn't want to be disrespectful and post in a developers thread specific to a custom firmware, nor CM, so I wanted to start this thread to get some input. There are a lot of great roms out, ARHD among others, which are modifications of the default stock Samsung firmware.
There is also the possibility to run the latest version of Android in stock AOSP by using Cyanogenmod 10.1.
Historically I have always used CM10.1 or AOKP on my devices as I switch frequently, and they have become the "brands" I know, and I like how it is not bloated. However, on buying my Note I thought it might be worth checking out stock based firmwares, especially for the IR blaster which doesn't work in CM10.1.
Has anyone here alternated between them? What made you switch to one or the other? I'm curious to get some input from others on why they made the decision they did specifically for this device.
Thanks!
EDIT: It seems most of the note features work fine in CM10.1 as well - are there any other things I am missing out on if I go CM10.1, other than the IR Blaster? I'm sure it is just a novelty that will get old quick, but still. Given I haven't used stock extensively I am not sure if I am missing out on anything else.
There are plenty of threads like this around.. I prefer stock because of the IR blast and mulit window feature.. also stock is louder with the noozxoide mod.. The reasons for CM10 is More customization, its faster than stock, Themes, and its 4.2...
Thanks - if you have links to the others I would like to give them a read, but I couldn't find any direct comparisons on XDA, especially for this tablet. The most I found was a "what firmware do you use" for the SGS2.
Im not about to look for them but here is 1...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2226379
Im not sure if cyanogenmod support the small apps ( dual or cascade ) . Im using custom stock fimware on my sgn10.1 such as Android Revolution HD, to fully use the advantage of multitasking.
But for my old handphone, I prefer cyanogenmod. You know why.
I would stick with stock. I think the cm team does agreat job but when it comes to my note 10.1 they lack ,there is something very buggy about them when it comes to 2d and 3d rendering this is the one thing I have noticed that are not based off stock roms. Things like sketch book video playback and gaming seem to fluctuate in fps but try it out and see for your self, other then that cm is a great

same, rooted stock for me. CM10 is nice, but the lack of multi window is the killer for me. For me, modified roms dont have anything special to make me want to switch to them.

This is what makes the Note 10.1 so special... Even the ICS rom it came with out of the box was close to what I wanted and needed. People only started complaining when others were getting JB and they weren't.
Add root access Samsung and it would be (almost) perfect - there's always something you want or need that won't be in the stock rom.
So saying, I'm still gonna play around with custom roms too... Never being satisfied and chasing perfection is part of being human, that's why XDA was created....
Stock is the best... !

I am quite pleased with it once I ran the compatibility pack and battery mod (%). It runs quite well and I have no complaints, other than a rather bulky notification pull-up bar. Performance is pretty good. As another poster indicated, though, there is a slight delay when switching between apps using the pop-up menu. Battery life seems a bit better after a few days usage too.

I own many different tabblets, on this one its perfect out of the box, no wifi, no sod, no market or any other weird problems. when you do get one that runs fine then your battery drains fast. Always a trade off, so I go with stock and no root. Seems root is causing problems and now no root and no problems.

well, i'd rather use the stock rom than the CM, i have tried the CM10.1 but you know, the Multi Windows and hand writing and the IR blaster had been missed, so, after all, i have to go back to stock rom, ít' simply, a bit slower but, well, it come with full features

Why am I not impressed at all with any of the android L implementations?
It's nothing really innovative that I can see, just different shapes... honestly like touchwiz 42.2, 4.3, 4.4.4 looks better... wouldn't mind seeing their overlay on things...
The Android L that Samsung puts out will not be the same.
It will have all of the Samsung Bloatware and cartoony images.
I have the Android Lollipop update installed on my Nexus 5 and it's beautiful, mostly because it's pure Android and not this TW crap.
With Samsung, it's going to be Android 5.0 Lollipop Touchwiz.
Not to worry, there will be a port as soon as we get custom recovery and custom roms coming out.

I always taking note using the s pen and action memo, if cyanogenmod or aokp roms don't support s pen, do you have any alternatives or other options?
Thank you for your help.
There are many alternatives to Samsung apps and some people can live with them. But to keep it short: yes, anything other then a TW ROM will turn the spen useless.
For the simple fact that I don't have air comands I don't use aosp roms. The battery life is also very bad on them.
I was in CM11 for nearly 6 months. It was like using a normal smartphone, not much Note features there.
So I switched back to Touchwiz based ROM after Lollipop.
AryaMod now ?
And yes battery life is better in TW based ROM and also you have variety of Kernels to flash for saving power like Arter etc
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Yes, pretty much the S Pen is useless with any CM/ AOSP based ROMs. You will have to use Papyrus or something like that instead of S Note, you will then have to install an app so that pop up thing might come (or might not) up when you pull out the S Pen. Awful experience anyway, as good as not having an S Pen like someone already mentioned above.
And to add further my personal findings, more or less everything is better in TouchWiz based ROMs, and no I don't give a damn about anyone saying otherwise.
Cm is not for tw lovers. Nor for noobs

There IS a way to use the S-Pen on AOSP ROMs, but it's not free. There's a paid app called SPenCommand, and you won't find it on the Play Store because Google purged any app that is toying with SELinux. The app itself emulates the behavior if TouchWiz, as well as Air Command's visual style.
But yes, consider again that AOSP ROMs don't have the battery life of TouchWiz, and regarding the S-Pen, they're somewhat limiting.

I don't know, because I rarely get to the point where I am left without battery.
When I was on tesla a few weeks ago, it was absolutely horrible.
Basically, yes. CM/AOSP doesn't come with Wacom drivers.
I think there are some third party options, but as for how or how well they work, I don't know.
Installing CM/AOSP turns your Note into a generic smartphone.

Unfortunately a simple App (like SPenCommand I've created) cannot do all what a dedicated environment (a modified Android version) can do.
For example AirScroll feature is not replicabile without changing Android Core files.
I think 80% of TW (at least the stylus part) could be replicabile creating an Xposed Module, but it takes a lot of time.
Samsung has got many developers, money and experience so it's a bit harder for an independent developer to compete with it.
I create SPenCommand with all my idea but any other idea/suggestion is well accepted if it is implementable in the App, I'm always open to all suggestions
