Hi,
is there anyway to disable the storage card being turned off when the battery falls below the critical level (about 19%), to avoid the Storage Card 2 problems/Critical Memory Level notices, I would prefer once the power has gone the unit stays off untill recharged.
Thanks
STI555
SD Card, Wi-Fi, and few others is switch of at 10%, not 19%
But that wasn't the answer, i am searching a method to disable that on a magician
Hello,
years later and i am searching for an answer to that "Problem" too. I'm not amused about that handling, that the sd-card is disabled when the battery has only 10% capacity remaining.
Is there a reg-key, where we can change the level, when this behaviour occurs?
Anyone knows any tweaks that can adjust the battery level to disconnect SD card. It's really annoying as I installed a lot of softs on Storage Card. Thank you.
I think I have a problem with the battery drain of my HD2 wjen in standby mode: as you can see from the attached log it never goes lower than -75mA, even with pushmail off...
It started like this with CHT 2.0 installed... could it be?
Yeah, CHT could be a reason, some stock ROMs seem to be a bit critical for this great piece of software.
Plus, it can also depend on what extensions and widgets you added to CHT...
After all, not so easy to find out. My HD2 runs like 2 days at normal usage (some phone usage, some texting, some mail sync over wlan, sometimes even with some navigation).
Please also make sure to try different Radio ROMs... or re-flash, or whatever. You´ll find several threads here with similar issues and various solutions and ideas.

yeah but why would CHT affect battery life when in standby? I am worried about the -75mA drainage in standby mode...

CHT in itself does not consume much power (if at all), I have CHT 2.0, and idle consumption is in 2-8 mA range (with GPRS and pushmail working).
Maybe you have some of the CHT monitoring widgets active?
If so, I'd suggest checking power consumption with those widgets turned off,
or even checking what is the power consumption without Sense

I have no monitoring widgets..
Could it be that I turned on the bluetooth discovering mode in cht editor? What does this option do exactly?

rather not, discoverable mode means normal bluetooth operation, except that your presence is not hidden from other devices (more info in wiki here)
as for the power consumption, it's definitely too high,
you seem to use some battery logging app, does it also show the current in real time?
if not, you could install BattClock, to check what the mA level after you wake the device from idle state (just to have second opinion/confirmation)
besides that you can either search this forum for some hints (the problem was raised several times), and/or start searching for the reason by elimination (check mA usage w/o Sense, try turning off the auto update of services like weather, contacts, FX etc.), check list of running processes with the Dotfred's Task Manager - trying to find which may be unnecessary

Hi,
when was the last time you formatted your SD card? A malfunctioning/severely defragmented SD card can cause a huge battery drainage. I'm pretty sure that this is your main problem. To solve it, follow this way:
1. Shut down device and remove SD Card
2. Insert SD Card into Card reader and insert to PC. Wait untill you see the Windows screen that says: automatically play/open this device and choose open folders.
3. Backup the content of your Card to a self named folder on your PC
4. Click another station than the SD card
5. Go back to SC card and right click it and choose formatting (slow mode)
6. After finishing this formatting, safely remove the Card from your PC and reinsert into device.
7. Boot device and format SD Card again with SD formatting tool (Windows - Tools - SD Formatting Tool).
8. Take out SD card and reinsert in PC and restore data fromm the self named folder.
9. Reinsert SD card in device and soft reset.
Done

Hi,
I have alreday tried that with no benefit... Only difference was that I formatted it diurectly into phone, skipping step 5: why do I need to format SD card on pc as well, before formatting on phone?
BTW, why would the SD card drain the phone while in standby?
I have also tried disabling sense and monitoring again, and still I have a fixed -75mA drain in standby...
Here's a list of running processes:
manila
tmail
JBlendDaemon > what is this?
CommManager
battclock > this was installed already before having batt problems
BTTrayCE
alarmPal > this was installed already before having batt problems
poutlook
cprog
connmgr
services
shell32
gwes > what is this?
device
filesys
NK > what is this?

A SD Card uses enery/battery power, when SD card dysfunctions or contains errors or is heavily defragmented, they all can lead to several severe problems, f.i. a huge battery drain even in standby.
The reason why you have to format your SD card first in PC, is that the Windows PC formatting tool does a very much more thorough job than then device's one (only compare the time they need to finish this process!!) and erases the Card totally whilst also repairing posssible errors or skipping and excluding bad sectors. So skipping this and only using device tool might not solve you're problem. The formatting afterwards with device's tool is only meant to prepare the card for the device's system. So, if I were you I would format SD Card with PC first and monitor battery usage. Be not surprised when the usage diminishes a lot.

then just to verify that I use it in the proper way:
- I launch batlog
- I set interval to 10 seconds
- I set the log name
- I start the log
- I minimize batlog
- I turn off the screen
is this correct?

I am still doing a few tests: ALL ON, ALL OFF, DATA OFF, DATA ON BUT PUSHMAIL OFF.
Then i wanna try with SD out, just to exclude SD.
My real problem is that overnight, with data on but pushmail off, it drain 20% in 8 hours... way too much...

You are absolutely right on that, this drainage is far too much. My overnight drainage in standby mode (so connection data on) is max 3-4%. If drainage without SD card is far less then now, I would advice you to buy a new one because either it's severely damaged or corrupt, even after formatting.
BTW, do not worry too much about Battlog, just look at your battery% that you have left over after a certain amount of time.
Good luck and regards, Kuzibri

OK,
after two tests (but I'd like to do a few more)...
-1- GSM ON, DATA ON, PUSMAIL OFF, SD IN, NO ACTIVITY AT ALL
23:00 @ 50%
07:30 @ 15%
lost 35% in 8.5h that is 4.1% per h
-2- GSM ON, DATA ON, PUSMAIL OFF, SD IN, 2 CALLS and 10 MINS BROWSING in 3G
10:00 @ 100%
19:00 @ 80%
lost 20% in 9h that is 2.2% per h
So for the moment it looks like it's the SD, but I'll try again tonight removing the SD while the phone is in stand by with no activity (same conditions as test 1)

Bad news... 28% in 10 hours overnight, with SD out and pushmail off.
Cannot be sd at this point... Could it be that after 1 year and 3 months the battery is already dying? This would explain the -75mA drain when in standby.
What's strange is that now I'm charging the batt and ir went from 41% to 57% in 15 minutes...

so, 10h overnight, SD IN but DATA CONNECTION DISABLED and it went from 100% to 95%...
I guess this means only two things: it's not the SD, teher must be something which uses the data connection constantly... how can I find it out?
PS: weather is set every 3 hours, facebook every 2 hours, nothing else...
I don't understand why mediaserver drains my battery everyday. I have cleared cache and cleaned data for mediaserver, factory resetted my phone and cleared davlik cache. I have also disabled mediaserver and all samsung bloatware and also turned off all syncing. Can anyone explain why it still turns on and starts draining my battery?
Had same Problem (without external sd). Try the following:
- Delete Every Picture and music from phone (copy it to your pc)
-delete data from musik, gallery and mediascanner
-shutdown phone an remove battery for ~30min
-start phone and charge to 100%
-if phone ist charged, take a screenshot an look into gallery, if the screenshot is there.
-put phone in deep sleep for ~30min to ~1h.
-check battery stats if mediascanner is still on top. If not, copy your data back.
Other possible reasons for mediascanner problem:
-corrupt sd card
-corrupt media files
Maybe this procedure will help you. I tried also everything, but only this steps helped me to stop the drain of the mediascanner.

I'm my case my problem is with external SD, when I unmount it mediaserver draining stops, so I guess deleting data from apps won't make any difference. When I mount it mediaserver comes back
So maybe your sd card is defect or there is corrupt data on it. Backup your sd card and format it with the phone.

I've had this. I just restarted the phone
