try running for a day without the SD card. Some people report that the card formatted not by the phone itself causes excessive Media Server power consumption.

My personal battery killer is..

the micro SD card!
i checked it twice overnight and during the day.. so i can say that for sure!
I own a Samsung micro SD 8gb class 6..
Night 1: lost 35 % in 7 hours with SD in it, constant data connection with hourly updates
Day 1: lost about 54 % in 8 with SD in it, constant data con. , hourly updates, some calls, texts & browsing in Opera
Night 2: same conditions as night 1 but without SD card.. lost 7 %
Day 2: nearly same conditions as day 1 but without SD card.. lost 27 %
Now a question: are sandisk cards better? i really need a new 1 cause my samsung's ****ed up!
Hope i could help someone with this..
Use BsB Tweaker which can enable power saver for SD Card.
And keep in mind that Battery lose first half capacity very fast and then stay on long time on the level 30-40-50.

In my case it's the exact opposite, power loss from 100%-50% is slow, below 50% it can go empty within 7 hours in STANDBY (reproducible). Thanks for the advice with BsB Tweaker.
PS: I have a sandisk 16gb class 2.
you mean the power saving option? it's enanled since the first day..
i know that with the first half but the sd card is really killing me! currently working outside so im in need of the radio.. with sd card in it and running fm radio, battery drainage is about 19 % per hour.. thats not even a bad joke anymore, its realy frustrating!
thank god that i have electricity here
That can't be right. Must be a rogue application. I have a 16 GB card and the phone never loses more than 1-2% (radio off) during the night.
must be my samsung card.. apps are all closed over night!
i got tomtom, navigon, some music & games on my card.. no idea
Formaty sd card and try again.
Must be some application installed on sd or some problem with the sd card itself
Ill try it when im at home!
is there an alternative for the built in fm radio? tried listening without sd.. same result 3 % loss in 10 mins! how can a dumb radio use so much battery?
i remember listening radio with my nokia e90.. listend for hours with minimal battery loss
It makes sense to me, thats why I was saying this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5230146&postcount=10
Any fellows here are using the A-data class 6 16gb and dose not affect the battery life? I'd like to ask this again.
Thanks in advance.

I tried mine too, and I lost 4% in 10 minutes, but that was with the screen on. I then turned off the radio and lost 3% in 10 minutes with the screen on, but not doing anything (other than usual-for-my-phone background tasks). I then turned the radio back on and turned the screen off, and it used less than 1% in 10 minutes (I say less than 1% because the indicator had not changed.)
To me, that says that (in my case) the battery killer is the screen, which I can accept because I have it lit very high (I just don't like it dim.)

The only major thing I'm considering changing, to see if it has any effect, is my windows live config. I currently have my sync frequency set to "as soon as it arrives", which requires a constant data connection (before that starts a flame war, please read this.) I'm gonna turn that off and see if it improves, but I still think the screen is my big problem.

Sounds like you need to recalibrate the "remaining-charge-estimate-circuit-thingy" in your HD2's battery. Drain battery to as near as nothing as possible and fully charge it without unplugging it (I have heard its suggested to do this with the device off). Might work straight off the first time, might take a couple goes.
Do not leave the device below 20% charge for any long period of time as it can cause problems with the Li-Ion battery.

I'm gonna try it on mine and see if I have any improvement anyway. I'm sure we have different things running on our devices. I'm just trying to narrow things down before removing the SD card to see if that does anything.
SD Card is one of the factor
To my sense, if a lot of softwares in installed in your SD Card, then definitely the battery will deplete rapidly.
I install all 3G-constant-data-softwares in the system memory, not card. Those not required CONSTANT 3G data connection and not to be running 24/7 will be installed in SD card (eg. 1-Calc, TCPMP, Lexisgoo, Resco Explorer).
So far, with the stock ROM and related softwares (installed at "right" locations) gives me average 1 full day battery juice having 25% balance. And again, battery consumption is a very very subjective topic. SD card IS definitely one of the battery earter.
I have not tested the following in a very detailed way but I think it worth while trying it:
Even so I have used the power saving tweak from BsB Tweak I found in sk Tools in tuneup that all Power Saving features are switched off.
So I switched On all Power saving features in sk Tools and I have the feeling that the battery usage is less now.
For example:
From midnight full 100% charge till 8am in the morning I had 89% left which is a little bit more than 1% loss per hour and this is not bad.
But with the new Radio 2.06 I have the feeling that battery power is getting more drained during a talk or during interent connection.
On the other side the reception is quite good and I have also the feeling that data connection is better - receiving data faster after a connection is established.
Again: This are all "soft" fatcs I have not done a sientific evaluation
I have a San Disk 16GByte Class 6 storage card.
Best regards,
dingolino
Hi, are you sure that your micro sd is a sandisk class 6? cuz I've never found Sandisk has released a class 6 16GB microcard..thats why I had to buy the A-data one.
The only software I have installed in the storge card is a GPS software IGO8.
This battery issue is driving me crazy, I begin to miss my HTC HD(original 1.43 ROM) which drops only 2%(My hd2 loses about 40% power) every night, even I always have kept my data connection on.

MicroSD preventing idle

MicroSD: Genuine Sandisk 32GB card from a reputable retailer.
ROM: Stock 1.72.831.1 Hong Kong.
I loaded all my music and some games onto the card and found that using Battery Log which I found on here that my phone was going from 100% > 87% overnight with everything off which translates to 16ma idle with Battery Log. With the card on the table overnight that the phone went from 100% > 97% or the same numbers when I put in a 2GB and 16GB cards that I have lying around. I've had the phone for 6 months and these are my consistent figures. With these cards inserted, Battery Log registers approximately 4ma consumption at idle.
I then formatted the 32GB Sandisk card using windows 7 (I'd been using the phone's utility until now) and did a full format at FAT32 with default cluster allocation as a last resort and left it empty without any files whatsoever. Well, Battery Log is still reporting the same 16ma consumption at idle and I'm out of options here so I've come to the masters here at XDA for their thoughts.
I never get any errors from the card, have filled it. The only unusual behaviour is from the idle.

I want to solve a technical problem for myself and other users about correct idling and memory card problems not just get by on a charger.
My phone used to give me 2 days moderate usage on a single change. With your solution I would get 2 days on standby with zero usage. Or that's 40% drain over 24 hours instead of the previous 10% drain while idling - big difference and reason I want to get to the bottom of it.

I don't see it as a problem, it's a known fact that the phone uses more charge when the SD card is in use.

Your post states the phone goes into idle, with a higher mA consumption. So it is idling, it's just drawing more current, maybe it's a design flaw of that certain class/size of SanDisk card?

Issues with battery drain in standby

I think I have a problem with the battery drain of my HD2 wjen in standby mode: as you can see from the attached log it never goes lower than -75mA, even with pushmail off...
It started like this with CHT 2.0 installed... could it be?
Yeah, CHT could be a reason, some stock ROMs seem to be a bit critical for this great piece of software.
Plus, it can also depend on what extensions and widgets you added to CHT...
After all, not so easy to find out. My HD2 runs like 2 days at normal usage (some phone usage, some texting, some mail sync over wlan, sometimes even with some navigation).
Please also make sure to try different Radio ROMs... or re-flash, or whatever. You´ll find several threads here with similar issues and various solutions and ideas.

CHT in itself does not consume much power (if at all), I have CHT 2.0, and idle consumption is in 2-8 mA range (with GPRS and pushmail working).
Maybe you have some of the CHT monitoring widgets active?
If so, I'd suggest checking power consumption with those widgets turned off,
or even checking what is the power consumption without Sense

rather not, discoverable mode means normal bluetooth operation, except that your presence is not hidden from other devices (more info in wiki here)
as for the power consumption, it's definitely too high,
you seem to use some battery logging app, does it also show the current in real time?
if not, you could install BattClock, to check what the mA level after you wake the device from idle state (just to have second opinion/confirmation)
besides that you can either search this forum for some hints (the problem was raised several times), and/or start searching for the reason by elimination (check mA usage w/o Sense, try turning off the auto update of services like weather, contacts, FX etc.), check list of running processes with the Dotfred's Task Manager - trying to find which may be unnecessary

Hi,
when was the last time you formatted your SD card? A malfunctioning/severely defragmented SD card can cause a huge battery drainage. I'm pretty sure that this is your main problem. To solve it, follow this way:
1. Shut down device and remove SD Card
2. Insert SD Card into Card reader and insert to PC. Wait untill you see the Windows screen that says: automatically play/open this device and choose open folders.
3. Backup the content of your Card to a self named folder on your PC
4. Click another station than the SD card
5. Go back to SC card and right click it and choose formatting (slow mode)
6. After finishing this formatting, safely remove the Card from your PC and reinsert into device.
7. Boot device and format SD Card again with SD formatting tool (Windows - Tools - SD Formatting Tool).
8. Take out SD card and reinsert in PC and restore data fromm the self named folder.
9. Reinsert SD card in device and soft reset.
Done

Hi,
I have alreday tried that with no benefit... Only difference was that I formatted it diurectly into phone, skipping step 5: why do I need to format SD card on pc as well, before formatting on phone?
BTW, why would the SD card drain the phone while in standby?
I have also tried disabling sense and monitoring again, and still I have a fixed -75mA drain in standby...
Here's a list of running processes:

A SD Card uses enery/battery power, when SD card dysfunctions or contains errors or is heavily defragmented, they all can lead to several severe problems, f.i. a huge battery drain even in standby.
The reason why you have to format your SD card first in PC, is that the Windows PC formatting tool does a very much more thorough job than then device's one (only compare the time they need to finish this process!!) and erases the Card totally whilst also repairing posssible errors or skipping and excluding bad sectors. So skipping this and only using device tool might not solve you're problem. The formatting afterwards with device's tool is only meant to prepare the card for the device's system. So, if I were you I would format SD Card with PC first and monitor battery usage. Be not surprised when the usage diminishes a lot.

You are absolutely right on that, this drainage is far too much. My overnight drainage in standby mode (so connection data on) is max 3-4%. If drainage without SD card is far less then now, I would advice you to buy a new one because either it's severely damaged or corrupt, even after formatting.
BTW, do not worry too much about Battlog, just look at your battery% that you have left over after a certain amount of time.
Good luck and regards, Kuzibri

OK,
after two tests (but I'd like to do a few more)...
-1- GSM ON, DATA ON, PUSMAIL OFF, SD IN, NO ACTIVITY AT ALL
23:00 @ 50%
07:30 @ 15%
lost 35% in 8.5h that is 4.1% per h
-2- GSM ON, DATA ON, PUSMAIL OFF, SD IN, 2 CALLS and 10 MINS BROWSING in 3G
10:00 @ 100%
19:00 @ 80%
lost 20% in 9h that is 2.2% per h
So for the moment it looks like it's the SD, but I'll try again tonight removing the SD while the phone is in stand by with no activity (same conditions as test 1)

Bad news... 28% in 10 hours overnight, with SD out and pushmail off.
Cannot be sd at this point... Could it be that after 1 year and 3 months the battery is already dying? This would explain the -75mA drain when in standby.
What's strange is that now I'm charging the batt and ir went from 41% to 57% in 15 minutes...

I have a 64gb card -- no noticeable extra drain. Actually I'm on day 2 without a charge, about 45 minutes screen time, and still at 60%.
I actually do, I'm using a note 3 and i didn't have this problem before. I had a water damage and after drying, changing the charging port everything is working fine except my battery would die within hours; even if i Do Not use the phone it would drain within 6-8 hours. I just tried it without the sd card today and so far in 4 hours i have 80+ % and i have over an hour of screen time. Im not sure what the causes this problem, i'm thinking of cleaning the motherboard with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol Antispetic Solution to make sure the is no power leakage.
No... memory card does not cause battery drain, brightness setting needs to be lowered to compensate excessive battery drain. Mine is very low. As far as the phone beung dropped in water, replace the battery before overthinking on cleaning the board..etc..etc...etc

Battery drain issue (media strorage and google services)

Hi there! I have always got problems everytime I charnge the contents of my external SD card. Both media storage and google services will heat up the device and drain the battery very fast. All I can do is to reboot the phone and force stop the media storage.
Are there any other things I can do to stop the drain and overheating? Thanks
Try formatting your sd card and/or try a different sd card.
