Help with rooting Samsung Galaxy note 3 (new thread) - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I currently have a Samsung note 3 running Android version 5.0. It has previously been rooted before and then unrooted (because i accidentally bricked it), my question is that. My phone is no longer rooted so can i now re root my phone.
By the way I've tripped knox...
I am from the UK and my phones carrier is EE
Build number: N005XXUGBOA1
Can this actually be done and if so, how would i go about doing this?

CF-Autoroot should work.

I looked at that option but it's saying that my phones bootloader needs to be unlocked otherwise my phone will probably get bricked.
How can I check if my phones bootloader is unlocked or not?

N9005 is always unlocked. Only N900A and N900V are locked.

Okay thanks. So i can re root my phone without bricking it as a result?

No brick. If you do get into trouble, you can always get into b Download Mode and restore to stock with Odin. Samsung phones ate pretty robust.

If i were to brick my phone how would i restore to stock with odin? Sorry I'm kinda new at this

There's s bunch of videos on YouTube which show you the process. It's quite simple, and I suggest you watch through these to get a better idea of how it works.

[Q] KNOX and binary counter

Hi! I know if I flash a firmware or a root file,it will set KNOX to 0x1.Ok,but I will buy the phone without warranty.I just want to know one thing
Will flashing a firmware bring up a yellow triangle? And can it be removed via Triangle Away? Or will it show anything else beside the 0x1 KNOX?
Please, take anything you want just don't give me the triangle, the dreaded triangle of death.... haha
I don't know if the n3 has a triangle but I do know that chainfire the author said his tools do not work on knox devices. So no triangle away.
I just rooted my Note 3, no triangle

Sorry for stupid question guys but as far as I know if KNOX is set to 0x1 it can't be restored and your warranty is void for all the time, right?

Yup, speculation is that there is a type of efuse that once blown is irreversible. And yes the KNOX warranty is void. Now whether or not a carrier representative (if carrier branded) will know to check this flag and deny you is another matter.
Thanks @Pliind
This knox warranty.
Is it triggered if a official firmware is flashed via odin?
Like i have an 02UK n3.
With my s4 i just changed CSC flashed BTU rom and viola.
Doing this on n3 voids that warranty?
So I wanna get this straight! When I get my Note 3 from Verizon, if I deny Knox on my first boot I will lose my warranty. Which I am OK with, but can I flash a custom recovery and ROM and root with no issues??

No. Denying a Knox prompt is the least of our problems with Verizon. In order to flash a custom ROM, we have to unlock the bootloader or get around it with Loki or SafeStrap in order to install a custom recovery.
It is possible to root a phone with a fully locked bootloader and without a custom recovery, however (like the S4)

Hmm really considering just keeping my S3 now. So if I purchased a international note 3 from eBay I would have a unlocked bootloader but wouldn't be able to receive 4G data from Verizon in the USA? Right?

Correct, If having an unlocked bootloader is crucial to you, I'd wait until you see what the development community comes up with on the initial release of Note 3's or just wait to buy the Developer Edition 3-8 weeks later. You know that variant will have an unlocked bootloader, but you'll also have to pay full price.

Not with locked bootloader, no. But there's a chance it could be modified if we get that magic key.
I will pretty much go with the stock ROM and a kernel with CWM and root.I do not want to install CM or AOKP,because I will loose the function, like S Pen menu,etc...Maybe I will install a custom ROM based on stock

[Q] Possible Locked Boot Loader on Rogers S4?

I was wondering, is there a locked boot loader on the Rogers Samsung Galaxy S4 (Canadian Version)?
I am wondering this because if I go to root my phone, it could brick it, and I wouldn't like that....
So, please help. Thanks.

to the best of my knowledge, it is the ATT version that has the locked bootie. You should be able to easily root your device using this file.
good luck!

Okay, I was just wondering because if i do root my phone, and it has a boot loader, then it will possibly brick it.
I also just want to make sure that there isn't a boot loader, so if anyone else has any knowledge, please post below. Thanks!

Well all phones have to have a bootloader. But I337m, which is the Canadian version, definitely has an unlocked bootloader. So you will not get any issues with CF Auto Root or anything.

[Q] Need Help Please

Hey I need some help with my Samsung Galaxy S4 from Cricket (sch r970c). I would like to root my phone but don't know if I have to unlock the bootloader first. If I have to unlock it first, how tf would I do that? Is Knox a problem (I don't know if I have it and I don't know how to check)? Once that is done what is the safest way to root my s4? Any help would be appreciated. My s4 is running 4.4.2 btw in case the helps with the Knox thing.
Oh and where do I go on XDA for this model?

No unlocked bootloader needed for this guide? I'm worried because the CF Auto Root website has the info in the images attatched. How do I found out if I have the Knox thing? And, still the same question, how to I unlock the bootloader?

[Q] New to rooting

I have a Galaxy S5 SM-G900V Version 5.0 I am wondering if it is possible to root it any help would be greatly appreciated
If you read the post above yours, or any of the posts in this forum, you will probably figure out how to root your device. Pro tip!
I have read them and have tried several different ways but I must be missing something because when I flash my device it keeps going into boot recovery and I cant get it to go any further

You soft bricked it. I recommend using Kies 3 to repair and initialize the phone again to stock, unless you made a nandroid backup. Then, you'll have to flash a NK2 retail stock, since no one has been able to find a method to root AO8 Lollipop 5.0 without tripping knox. If you don't mind tripping knox, which voids your warranty.

you are wrong lmao.. we have root for the g900v (he must be having user errors if he cant get it to work) but there is NO process for the g900v that will trip Knox at all because we cant touch the BL due to it being locked.. Knox has nothing to do with anything at this point. His warranty is still good but yes, his phone is soft bricked if he cant boot up

Have you tried finding a full ncg tar file (full meaning it includes the kernel), Odin that to put you on ncg. Download towelroot and install it. Run towelroot and that should root you. Download latest safestrap and install it. Then download any other the rooted lollipop roms and the lollipop kernel(kernel will be downloaded on computer) . Install it via safestrap, boot directly into download mode and Odin the lollipop kernel. Reboot. Should be rooted lollipop and good to.
New too rooting
ok I managed to figure this all out i think I got it to restore back to 5.0 using odin by flashing the stock files I found on the forums then I found another tutorial on rooting and followed it and managed to figure it out so now I am running
Android Version
4.4.4
Baseband Version
G900VVRU1ANHA
Kernel Version
3.4.0
[email protected]#1
Build Number
KTU84P.G900VVRU1ANHA
I don't know if that means any thing to you guys but my next task is to find a rom that ultimately will get rid of allot of the boat from verizon and ideally I would like to have the multi user feature but I am not sure that is availible for android 4.4.4

[Q] Downgrade from OE1?

I just switched back to my GS5 because I broke my iPhone 6. I am currently running 5.0 Baseband G900VVRU2BOE1. I've been trying to Odin back to KItKat. I get a fail in Odin every time. Is there something going on with the bootloader that prevents downgrading?

It sounds to me like the aboot qfuse counter changed which would mean that there's no going back to any previous FW. It was only a matter of time before they did it since the VZW S4 lollipop update did that.
We won't know until we get ahold of either the update.zip or the odin tar. I have 2 VZW S5's and both refuse to tell me there's an update available even when I Odin back to a stock FW.
Nice. That's what I hated about Apple. You own the phone, yet, still can't do what you want with it. Well, thanks for checking it out.

It's most likely more of a Verizon thing than a Samsung thing. Although with the 5.1.1 S5 update on T-Mobile, the kernel prevents rooting and T-Mobile phones are on unlocked bootloaders which means they don't care if you root or install a custom rom so maybe it is becoming more of a Samsung thing now.

Want free advice, next time you see an update dont install it it will better if went to the xda forums for more info
As of now there is no way to downgrade. Someone already looked at the update zip. I guess it night be possible once the full OE1 tar is out..something about downgrading everything except the bootloader

the thing is, with Verizon, you can choose to not accept the upgrade a few times, but ultimately, it is forced on you...which is why I rooted my S5 the same week I bought it (to avoid unwanted 'upgrades')
