hey everyone , i am having a problem my first recharge session for the xperia when the batter was fully drained was about 9 hours? is this normal ? for the first couple of times , i am recharging my phone through the usb cable from my computer directly ?

I've never charged mine through my computer, only synced. I will say it took very long to charge at first. I'd recommend using the wall charger and charging every night instead of letting it drain all the way.
Wall charger is the best choice, unless u have got a battery charger & patience to take off & put on the battery cover every time.
I doubt whether it is necessary to charge x1 every night?
I also find that using a wall charger gives a much quicker charge time and to my eyes a longer lasting charge... I only charge when it gets down to 20-40% so it could last as long as 4 days... (usually 2)
wallcharger takes about 2 hours till its full.
USB however takes far longer. not sure why but i guess the ma/h used for USB is probably far lower then a wallcharger
Yes, USB charging is slower than normal charging as the USB port can provide max 500 mAh, my old K800i on usb charging can arrive max 92% even after 6 hours connected, while on wall charging it is full in less than 2 hours.
And regarding this question, i have another question:
Will usb charging work with any usb wall charger? i leave the wall charger at home, and at work i use USB charging, but a co-worker has a motorola phone with a wall USB charging charger, can i use it safely on my Xperia?

Yes, if you check that Motorola output parameters are the same of our SE wall charger.

Guys i did charge it from the wall charger and it took less then an hour to charge the remaining 50% which is great guessing so its going to take around 2 hours to full charge it from zero , , thanks for the help
I've got a split cable (two usb ports into one) that came with a portable USB HDD. It works faster when charging off USB.
also if you want faster charge time then make sure the X1 is switched off completely.

what i understand the the slower you charge the battery the longer the battery life ;it could stay with you for more then a year with good battery life
on the other hand quick charging the battery will decrease the overall age of battery you are going to change it with in a year or two
i am not sure of this info for cellphone batteries but 100% sure regarding the laptop lithium batteries
please correct me if i am wrong

As far as I know, the asnwer is yes for the first part. The slower the charging time, the longer the battery will last (theorically).
But, the time horizon is not 1-2 years. It is actually longer than that, 2-3 years for cellphones and 4-5 for laptop (own an HP from June 2005, still getting 3h of battery life out of it!).

Hmmm... great idea man... but I am wondering if it could affect the battery. Which is the total mah supplied?! is it less than the wall charger one? that info could definitively chamge my mind about the split cable
1) USB charge is way slower
2) Wall is about 2 -3 hrs
3) GSM plus average usage, 1.5 days of use
4) 3G plus average usage 1 days
what my laptop battery care program does to prolong live is that it maintains a max 80% charge. perhaps this is same for all battery?

Sincerely, it doesn't matter for me. 4 year is way too long and I never had a phone for that period, so I really do not care about it. The only thing I pay attention is to always fully charge and discharge the battery, every time.
Consider that the first bound to a battery life is its recharge cycles. Probably 90% of batteries dies/loose power because of too many charge/discharge cycles, the 10% left for other reasons (fast charge, totally drained power, heat, etc.)

Yes, I use my old Motorola V3i charger to charge the Xperia, no problems.

the website doesn't say much about Lithium-Polymer batteries as opposed to Lithium-Ion which is all over the site. Li-Poly is what Xperia is using. I think you shouldn't overheat the battery when charging because heat will drasticaly degrade the battery life.

Yeh, as a note to some former replied.
Li-Po (Lithium Polymer) batteries need to be kept in check, overheating can make them dangerous and explosive as well as reducing their life cycle.
Which point you charge the battery from with Li-Po does not mattery as long as the correct "conditioning" cycles are completed when new.
Also, as a note, I have once or twice attempted to charge my Xperia from the USB port on my laptop(plugged in) over night, only to find the battery of the Xperia was totally dead the next morning.
The USB ports of my laptop provide 500mA (standard) and the charger for the Xperia is 700mA so not a significant difference, but I guess other things affect the the USB ports on laptop (including Windows 7 having the ability to disable US ports to "save power").
It most probably assume the "device" connected is wasting power and so disables it. Although we want it to charge. Same goes for Windows Vista. This option can be disabled though.

Yes, but wall charging while using connected wifi does heat the battery relatively quickly (my Polaris, Li ion, gets vaguely warm, not as obviously heated as the X1 battery)
I've tested this with a new replacement battery - careful overnight charging when new - and similar behaviour still results
This has convinced me that the X1 has a serious weakness, as charging while wifi connected is a long-standing work habit. If the wifi is connected without charging, a usable time of 2-3 hours is all you get (no good )

X10 is my first touch cell phone.
When battery is 30% i put it on charging it start Discharging till 0% and then phone go to shutdown. After sometime it start but take too long to charge 30% of the battery.
Is it normal for X10..???

from my experience with mine is up to 10% or 15% im not sure. theres a blinking red then after that its solid green..but charging is really slow on this
im usb charging at play around with it and its actually draining battery
not sure if this is normal but thats what im experience and most of the aftermarket charger out there doesnt work very well with this device
You need a charger with at least 850mA capacity to be able to charge the phone normally. USB charging from computer is slow as it is just 500mA and if you are using the phone for heavy stuff like watching video it may actually lower battery percentage instead topping it up.
Most aftermarket generic USB chargers are 500-550mA especially car adapters, some are even lower.. Make sure you get properly rated charger for this phone to avoid any issues.
So I realized that if I charge my phone using the USB ports on my laptop, the phones batter lasts much longer than if I charged it through the power outlet in the wall.
I didn't take any screenshots because I didn't think of it at the time, but through the laptop I got about 2 days and 14 hours with moderate use and I had 18% battery left.
Through the wall charger, I get about 18 hours with moderate use.
Can anyone else confirm?
Not sure, but i do feel that it charge slower on the USB port of my laptop. Maybe it have something to do with your theory.

USB port can give max 500mA but the wall charger can supply with 700mA (+40%!!!)
I have a charge-only cable that charges over my MBP's USB faster than any AC adapter I've tried. Charges last about the same regardless of power source though...

USB 2.0 will provide up to 500mA while USB 3.0 can provide 800mA. Stock Atrix wall charger I have is 850mA.
How do you verify what mA you're using? Is there a good tool for that?

IIRC, these are minimum specs for the standards. Could be wrong, but I believe that true output varies card to card/port to port.

I've heard this theory before, but didn't see noticeable difference on my phone to back this claim.
I do agree with OP that charging the phone connected to a laptop USB port would give longer battery life. I have noticed this on several occasions already. I also agree the charge process would be much slower. With my phone, with 5% charge or less, the battery icon randomly doesn't animate while being charged.
That a side, I'm also sure something is broken in Atrix design, be it hardware, battery, or both but something is not right. I can't even charge my phone from a power point with the supplied cable and the plug [UK].
I know Motorola won't admit neither fix this problem in Gingerbread but might do, quietly, in ICS. One other possibility I can think of is that the supplied plugs are the culprit.
Today i charged the phone from my laptop, and im not feeling any difference at all. Its discharging at my usual pace. :/

Furthermore to my previous post, I have finally found the opportunity to test my phone with a Blackberry charger and it started charging the phone from the power point. That means the Motorola UK plugs I have are broken.
I'm arranging to purchase a Blackberry charger now. Don't want waste my time and money with Motorola anymore.

Well, since I purchased my Note 2, I kept facing this slow charging problem. Now what is slow charging some of you will ask? Well, it's simple. The device is taking more than normal time for charging. Now how do you know the default/should be rate for charging? Simple again. The AC adapter clearly says output rate as 2000 mA or 2.0 A. So with that calculation Note 2's monstrous 3100 mAh should be fully charged with 2 hours. But as we've seen steady 2.0A is not the output case in some/many scenario, so add another 30 mins to it. So whatever it is, from 0-100%, the device shouldn't take more than 2 hours 30 minutes.
And for me, it was taking around 5 hours! Sometimes 4 hours 30 minutes, and if it's very fast then 4 hours. Well I was never gonna wait 4 damn hours before going to my office and irritate myself, and I don't have the habit of charging overnight, unless I absolutely need it.
So I kept calling my retailer, asked for replacement, and they did, well, you won't believe, they replaced three times actually, so I had three different Note 2, with three different charger. Well, each of them acted absolutely fine at first 3-4 charge, then the problem was back again and again. I in fact turned off the device and put it into trash once.
Then I thought let's try some different USB cables, I tried my friend's Galaxy Ace cable. Charging current kept fluctuating between 1000-1200 mA. Which was better than those faulty stock cables, which provided steady 900 mA. Sometimes it even was detecting the AC current as USB, which would provide a mere 460 mA and would take God knows how long! Then I found my piece. I went to my retailer, frustrated and angry, asked them to give me the thickest and shortest possible cable, and they provide me one from a Samsung phone's box, but I can't recall which device was that! And then I sat there for half an hour, kept plugging and unplugging, and the current rate was rock steady at 1800 mA. I took it, paid just 10$ and came back.
Since then I have charged my phone almost 10 times and the current rate never went below 1800 mA / 1.8 A.
This is the cable I am using, do notice that it has 5 pin set up against stock cable's 4 pi, if that matters in any way, and it's about 10% thicker than the stock cable and also about 9" shorter.
And how will you monitor the charging current, three ways are there,
1- Battery Monitor (yet I don't know how to exactly use it)
2- If you are rooted (which is a must anyway), then just go to, /sys/class/power_supply/battery/current_avg
3- Use the app from the link below. It basically reads the current value just exactly as above but it saves the time to go into that file every time. A big thanks to Deadvirus.

Same here, it's done within about 2 hours every time, from ~1%. Something definitely must have gone wrong with yours :s

You are amazingly right. Every charger/cable combo I test seems to deliver different currents, according to the app you posted, ranging from 600 to 1300 (mA?).
Didn't know that could happen. Now I am looking for the Holy Grail of chargers, too.
After some tests: original chargers of Note 2 and Tab provide 1800 mA; no-brand Chinese labeled 1500 gives 1400; one Nokia labeled 1200 gives 1300, another, labeled 1200, gives 1200. Puro brand, labeled 2100, gives 1100. Another Chinese, no-brand, labeled 2000, double usb, gives 1100 per socket. Other no-brand samples give 600 or 300 mA.
Enormous variability.
Think I'll use the 1800 mA Samsung for when I'm out, and the good Nokia's for overnight charging when home.

For me...
Stock charger + stock short cable (0,9 m) = ~2+ hours
Stock charger + some other cable (1,8 m) = ~4+ hours
,don't know about thicknes. Mb stock cable is thicker, or at least harder to bend.

Thanks for the APK, I found a huge variance in charging rates based on a combination of chargers and cables. Goes to show that the cable makes a huge difference. Here's my findings:
** Stock Charger (2A):
w/Stock Cable (4-pin) - 1698
w/Cable from another phone (5-pin) - 1698
w/Cable from battery pack (5-pin)- 1698
w/generic eBay cable (4-pin)- 100! - It didn't charge at all, even with screen off.
** iPhone Charger (1A):
w/Stock Cable (4-pin) - 1300
w/Cable from another phone (5-pin) - 1100
w/Cable from battery pack (5-pin) - 1300
w/generic eBay cable (4-pin) - 100!
** Car Charger (1A):
w/another generic eBay cable - 490
(Was running Redpill kernel, not sure if that has fast charging built in which might affect results).
The app is really helpful. Been wondering what the charging current was on different chargers.
I measured it using the app based on current AVG and not current NOW. This is because I used a 800ma blackberry charger and yet current now shows 1698 which is impossible.
The app will tell you which cables and chargers are good. I was shocked that out of my 8 cables only 3 gave an average of more than 1000, the rest give around 800 or less.

So, the AC adaptater mentionne 2A but it doesn't mean that your devuce consume 2A... It means that the AC adaptater can provide 2A under 5V.
If a load need to consume 500mA the adaptater can provide enough power. But if it needs more than 2A, the ouput current will be at the 2A max but your voltage will decrease (it means that you have a device problem!).
The only thing to do is to refer to the user manual of device.
One thing more, the USB protocole fix the maximun current to 1A!
An other thing, if you want to have a better battery life it recommended to charge your battery slowly. Just have the habit to charge it during the night.

I also got an lg very thick cable..which is also 5 pin and let me tell it charges REEEEAAAALLLLYYYY FAST..when seen in application posted in op(thanx) it shows 1800..but the problem is if I detach charging before battery full notification then the battery is consumed at very high rate..I.e battery life decreased or maybe shows fake battery percentage. .and if I go for full charge it takes half hour more after 100% to show battery full in notification. .

Yes, the stock charger doesn't provide full 2A current.

On my old cable, the damaged stock one, it'd take half an hour to reach 100% from 99. With this one it takes 5-6 mins.
This whole charging process is complicated that much I can say.

Unfortunately I got a grey import so my stock charger was for a different country.
I'm having to use a 1.0A charger instead.
It still only takes a few hours to charge though. I sleep for 4-5 hours and it's always fully charged when I wake up.

Hmm is this a accurate way of measuring amp?
I was using same cord and the apk provided above, using the default 2amp charger says 1697 and using a bellkin in charger rated at 1amp,says the same thing?

As I stated in the screenshot, you shouldn't look at current_now, it'll always be same, 1698, you should look at current_avg.

Just switched to a very old 0.7 A output charger my father uses on his primitive samsung device. It gives better results than my stock charger/USB cable, provided by samsung. 800 mA on a 700 mA charger. How is that even possible?

Yeah I am. The stock charger says 2A, 5V. When used with the stock cable it charges at a mere 200-400 mA. I used the wall charger of an old samsung phone (doesn't have a usb cable, just a wall charger) and current rises to 800mA. Where can I buy a good USB cable at in the UK?

But in fact it's not my stock charger who is defected but it's just the cable!!!

I've been charging mine with the turbo charger since day one, it's been fine. There is technology built in to monitor the battery temps and ramp down the charge speed as the battery gets full. I've had my phone for 16 months now.
Max temp I get is 42-44c

same here : 15 months with my MXF the 25w turbo2 charger.
Battery never go over 45° in charge, battery life still as good as the first day
In my car I have the Moto 25w charger. With navigation and other apps running the temperature rises to about 46 degrees. At this point the charge rate drops. Only if my telephone is at the cool air and out of its cover does the charging rate remain at the full turbo charge rate

Not so much that the battery fails. The connector (which is kind of crucial for QC 2.0/3.0) or the charge controller craps out. Battery's fine. Was fine when I did my swap out for charge failure. It's not the battery, which people incorrectly presume is the problem- the charge system is a feedback loop process running in the background while the OS is running. When you're dead, down, no charge in the battery, the device only draws USB 2.0 power levels, 500mA, until the OS can come up enough to manage the charging. Part of the reason they do this is because you're using a USB connection to charge with and unless you've got the 1.5 A USB charge slot or an AC charger with the ability to source up to 2.4 A of juice, trying to pull that much current will wipe your USB port on a PC/Laptop/etc OUT. This is just with traditional charging. Turbo/QuickCharge charging is about raising the voltages over the USB 2.0 lines on a cable to up to 12v as opposed to 5, to allow you to jam a bit more current through the lines and to the device, effectively doubling the power being fed to the charge system. Problem with that is that you REALLY need the OS up and running to manage that. It requires info from the Charge Controller chip that is handshook from the charger.
If your charge controller is damaged, or if the cable doesn't have clean data and power lines, it just simply WON'T WORK. It will just USB mode charge until you fix the "problem"- either of which requires Lenovo to re-work the board...if it's even possible to fix. USB charging takes forever with this class of device- because the battery is a huge tank of juice compared to the devices of old. So it "looks" like the battery got "broke".
Having said this, there's about 20-40% of the units out there, depending on the crowd you listen to, that have a defective charge controller system and the phone flat-out won't ever go into any mode other than USB.
