Ok i've recently bought a new samsung galaxy tab GT-P1000 in england, its unlocked to all networks, running froyo xwjj3, i absolutely love it, it meets all my needs perfectly,
now i'm fairly new to the android world, ive been a devout iphone owner for years but figured it was time for a change, i had a good understanding of the "jailbreaking" world of the iphone but i'll be honest and say the android world of ROMs totally throws me off, like for instance is there a ROM which will make tab any better or faster? themes that maybe make use of its larger screen?
basically what i'm asking for is any type of help that u think would be useful to a rookie, apps and games, anything that can make full use of my lovely new machine?
also on a side note, i have an Orange Livebox router in my house and my samsung connects with it fine only after i press the wifi button on the box and then suddenly drops the signal at any specific time, what could be the cause of this?
thanks so much for any help
Congatulations and welcome to the family
A lot of us share your love to the Tab and motivated to make it even better.
If Tab meets your current needs you might not need any modifications. The easy way is just following Samsung notifications about available updates and simply enjoy your Tab.
If you want to be on the edge of XDA development and ready to take risk of testing latest releases of firmware you need to go through reading of the Development forum.
It might be a lot of reading but it would save your from frustration when something goes wrong.
Luckly, development is in very good state right now and your can choose fast firmware that is tested enough for everyday use.
to update the tab you will need kies (which sucks)

Just read a few threads in the development section here , I was a complete novice not long ago , I now have a custom kernal + rom and my device is rooted. Some of the roms are better but jj7 is just fine - you can update officially from jj3 using kies as its genuine samsung software
For nice themes grab adw launcher from the market and then add some themes for it... google is your friend

thats the thing tho, i have been reading up and looking, from what i can gather 90% of the customs roms on the samung galaxy tab are for non UK users who want to make phone calls from there device, we can already do that in the UK so what types of ROMs are beneficial to us?
also ive heard launcher pro is better for the galaxy tab rather adw launcher, is that true?
thanks for the help by the way
Hi,
In case it helps, I have an up-to-date Galaxy Note 2 ROM list kept here, which includes the GT-N7100, N7105 models.
Someone was asking for a list in the AT&T section, so I thought I'd post this info in each section to tell people.
It's kind of a hobby, but it's kept up-to-date pretty much every day.
Some of you might find it useful.
That's some serious consolidation done there m8! Great job, surely helps!
Thanks.
Just a quick bump in case it can help anyone out who doesn't know about it.
Super awesome. If you could just sort it base wise like touchwiz and aosp.
this is XXXDDDAAA
Hi,
It came to my attention that I'd forgotten to add a few roms from the `Original Android Development' sections for the different carriers.
Sorry about that. Those roms have now been added.
Just a quick bump. The Galaxy Note 2 ROMs list is still regularly updated.
I hope it continues to help people out. As usual most of the ROMs are here at XDA.
Thanks.
Note 2 ROMs
cool thanks
I'm still using my Note 2 (believe it or not). The Galaxy Note 2 ROMs list is still going strong, too - although it has gotten easier with less ROM development.
(This is kind of a thread bump. I'm looking to switch to a Galaxy S8 Edge in the near future, if they are any good.)

Sorry for the boring reply, but I would recommend whichever one you try and like.
MIUI is nice for a change sometimes. Here in Japan, we were limited as to which ROMs we could flash, so I eventually went back to the latest ROMs from the carrier (DoCoMo).
The Galaxy Note 2 is still a nice phone. I'm looking forward to changing devices in the coming months, after having stayed with the Note 2 since it came out.
I pay quite a bit each month here for my phone, so it makes sense to benefit from a newer device if I'm still paying quite a bit each month.
The Note 2 still does everything I need it to do. But after trying other devices in the stores, I realize that they are quicker, lighter, and it's important to freshen up life with new experiences. (I'm kind of old fashioned, so I have to remind myself to change every few years.)
(It can also be tricky getting a 24 month contract when you live abroad and rely on renewing your visa annually.)
.. Go with whichever ROM you like, and read the threads and see how much enthusiasm there is for each one.

Do you know the main ROM thread for that? (It doesn't have to be XDA.)
For example: This thread links to these files.
That ROM you posted the link to is dated as more recent, so it would be nice to know the thread it belongs to.
Thanks.
I dont think theres even a thread but therom works fine. I flashed it some days back @Grant Barker
Only the buttons backlight doesn't work. Other than that everything works fine.

Hello, I've been using PACMAN ROM for a good like 6 months now and I love how it makes my huge Note 2 into a tablet looking thing. I haven't been able to pull the trigger on getting a Galaxy Gear watch yet because I didn't know if it worked with the rom and I'd rather keep the rom than have the limited functions that the watch currently has right now.
I was wondering if the PACMAN rom worked with Galaxy Gear or if there's a way that I can add Galaxy Gear functionality into the rom somehow.
Thanks in advance.
I dont think there would be any way... these things (like snote and other features) depend on the samsung firmware... you'll probably need to revert to a sammy rom to use galaxy gear... make a backup to make it easy for u to revert...

Hello friends
Many note 10.1 owners were waiting for kitkat update
Now its available...
But its a total junk
I would recommend pls don't update it
Its trim down many of its essential features for nothing
1. Lock screen is ugly now there is no option to reduce size of giant missed notifications,
app shortcuts is on right side only not in canter like before,
only right hand can be use to swipe unlock, swiping on left side can't unlock
2. S pen detach menu options has been gone... now there is no options when you pull out s pen... its a total shame Samsung
3. OS UI is just like phone not like tablet... there are only 3 soft buttons on bottom now just like nexus phone and upper part is just like mobile notification bar and also very tiny its very hard to use it like a tablet...
4. Air view in gallery is very tiny... don't know what the f**k they hv done to it...
Same problem also with video air preview and massages n emails app ... very tiny..
5. Almost All apps are same **** like before no update at all
only very few apps like calculator dealing app etc. are slightly changed
But worth update in my opinion....... NOOOOOOOOOOOO
And if you just want kitkat which is another junk from Google
I think jelly bean was also very stable n yes its work on tablet UI...
but now I hv 10.1 screen n hv to tap here n there just to operate this....
Thanks
Sorry for my bad English
N someone pls tell me how to revert back to jellybean official Indian firmware
Thanks
One more new problem I found today: keyboard has lost its gesture control to change keyboard's layouts
you hv to set it up manually...
update : no more floting windows option in multi windows just 2 fixed windows..... helllllllll
I agree with you that Samsung's implementation of 4.4 and Android in general sucks. But that is where agreement stops. Original Google 4.4 and actually 4.3 as well as 4.2 are very usable and nice looking operational system. And pretty functional too. I feel sorry for all of this millions of Samsung's that stuck with what ever company put on their tablets and phones that are very nicely designed hardware but software Samsung is using not a much for hardware. If you are brave root your device and install one of the non- official close to real Google KitKat firmware and you will be shocked how much better it is. Just mine 2cc. Note 10.1 Original 2012 with OmniROM.

1. I would disagree with you, I think it's an improvement over the old lockscreen: https://hostr.co/file/bRNkmTritpRP/1401072520160.png
2. You can use GMD S Pen to get back the menu that shows up when you pull out the s pen. For me, I found it pointless because it wasn't very customizable nor convenient for me.
3. That's Android's fault, buttons are center now, even on stock AOSP rom.
4. I agree with you that the air view is not that great, but for me this isn't a deal breaker.
5. Not necessarily a bad thing, people have already ported many apps from the Note 10.1 (2014) and other newer devices onto our note.
Google isn't to blame for the issues you have, Samsung is. KitKat actually has many great improvements on our Note 10.1 (being able to move apps to SD Card, more apps are compatible, and overall better performance.
If you insist on going back, you need to flash the old rom via Mobile Odin, but you won't be able to flash the bootloader because of KNOX.
Works Great for me..... :good:
I'm just waiting to see he they make an update that posts out the mess or if one of the many custom roms comes up to the mark soon ie. With all the features working and the original interface.

In my own personal experience I've seen that the performance improvement is leaps and bounds over the 4.1.2 any day and that's all I really care about.

Hallo,
That my mine.
KitKat Update for the Flagship Device, Note 10.1 (2012), is a Shame, a Quick and dirty Update, only they can say we update to Kitkat.
No new Feature (Air Command), Old Software (Weather) convert to new ROM.
The Center Buttons and the Lockscreen come from Google.
In the Future i don't buy any Flagship Device from Samsung, i buy any Budget Device and after 12 Month i drop it into the Trash and buy a newer, but not from Samsung.

This is exactly what they want you to do. Buy and consume... unfotunately we have money to consume and pollute environment for nothing.
I have begun thinking to get Surface for my next tablet when my N8000 is end of its life. Allthought three things was necessary to me - a tablet, phone and a pen - to have in one package, i need to think it all over again. And probably need to have a phone and a tablet in the future (which i dont like, but Samsung cant offer reliable support for its devices).
Sent from my phone - Note 10.1 (N8000)
Agreed with OP with some points
Go for omni if you don't need camera and screen recording features
Omni offers latest kitkat 4.4.3 and gets updated everyday (Delta updates), super smooth, customisable etc.
I installed Touchwiz because i need to use video and screen recording otherwise i would have never updated to touchwiz again, but one good news for touchwiz kitkat is that someday in future out tablet has touch to wake functionality through boeffla kernal..... :good:
I've been waiting and waiting for kitkat but as I have N8010 is gonna be a long time yet I guess......
I wanted to try gnarbo rom but I don't want the phone stuff as I have no need for them.
I'll just have to wait for the official kitkat for my tablet, but then am still unsure whether I'll update as I want the goodies of what my 2014 has so will probably wait for someone to release a good custom rom for my device.
I got my 2014 note 10.1 as a present but had always said it wasn't worth the extra as it wasn't that much better than my n8010. That was before but now I'm changing my mind, I think it is alot better.
Still might ditch them both just to get a galaxy tab S........
My biggest problem is the notification window (when u pull down)
its so freaking big n ugly
anyway does anyone knows when nordic countries will get it?
well, i do want to go back to jelly bean 4.1.2
because its very easy to use by 2 thumbs only
so plz tell me...
does i need to root my tab to use mobile odin?
or just install mobile odin and install firmware through it...???
any possible problems which can occur?
i dont care about boot loader i just need clean os
just like before...
thanks in advanced

I'm in the same situation... But I think I will update first to the stock 4.4.2 (whenever that happens) and only after I'll put some custom rom... The "problem" is that I use SPen a lot (that was the reason to buy this tablet), so support for the samsung framework is essencial in whatever rom I'll end up installing...
I have no plan to update Note 10.1 Classic to 4.4.x so I can keep using flash player.
If I want 4.4.x, I just buy Tab Pro 10.1 or use Note 8 (updated to 4.4.x).
I suppose that we should give it some time until it get's really usable. As far as I remember there was a mod or something to remove the ugly and uselesss bottom 3 button bar and restore more or less the 4.1.2 look? Might be mistaken, though....
Anyone actually tried the cracked Phone Screen Sharing program? Does it work on KitKat?

Hi there! Im a new user posting in the xda community but in the past I always came here to find fixes for my phones. This time I found some solutions but they did not solve my problem and I saw many people with the same problem here on xda and in other places. So, I decided to experiment and do "MY OWN FIX". After 3 days with my phone constantly crashing, turning off by itself, stuck in Galaxy Note 4 Powered By Android screen, and so on. I found that the problem could be the latest android update that Samsung threw in May (N910PVPS4DQE1). My phone is a Sprint version so the model is SM-N910P. I decided to install with Odin the previous STOCK ROM (N910PVPS4DQC1) from April. I did it, I flashed the previous ROM but to my surprise this did not solve my problem.
This has been the best phone that I've ever had. I do not want to lose it. I do not think it is a hardware problem because sometimes it will get past the Galaxy Note 4 Powered By Android screen and even get to home screen and use my phone "working perfectly" just for a few minutes.
ANY HELP WILL BE APPRECIATED PLEASE!!!
