[Q] My Nexus is dead - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone,
some days ago i tried to downgrade my nexus 7 (2012) to KitKat because experience with lollipop was terrible.
After reading variuos post i decided to use Nexus Root Toolkit but something goes wrong.
Attached you can find various logs and unfortunately now my nexus does not start anymore, also trying power+volume down or power+volume down+volume uo does not work.....the screen is always dark.
Do you have some magic solution for me ?
Thanks

Did you try to flash a factory image for tilapia (3g - Nexus) onto grouper (WiFi - Nexus)? This will not work and most likely that bricked your device ...

Sorry for late response.
I select the image from dropdown list, attached you can see what i have on my hd
Attached you can find also all the factory images that appear in the menu of Nexus Root Toolkit
Thanks
Bye

If you connect the cable, does it go to charging mode?

@acolaja that's what I expected, sorry for you, but you had choosen the wrong one if you have WiFi only. I doubt that you can revive your tablet now.

ok i was flashing stock 4.1.2 image on my nexus, so i could upgrade to 4.2, but the nexus 7 toolkit (msskip) just stopped, so i pluged out my nexus but now it wouldnt enter the bootloader, but when i plug it in to my computer it ask me about apx drivers, this happend to my lg optimus 2x once but i could flash it back trough nvflash, but is my nexus 7 hardbricked ? do i need to send it back where i bought ? :crying:
RMA time I'm afraid, your bootloader is toast and there's currently no way to recover from that, a compatible process using nvflash isn't available for Nexus 7 (yet).

My device was already bootloader unlocked, and running 4.2 grouper JDQ39

Hi I recently bricked my nexus 7 too and unbricked it myself. there aren't a lot of people willing to help here as I know, and I know I can help you. First thing first, there is noway you can brick your nexus 7, no matter what you have done, so just clam down.
to unbrick your nexus 7, there is what I suggest you to try>
1, download fastboot, adb. make sure they are the newest version.
2, download recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.3-grouper. this is a recovery img that you install into your nexus 7
3, get Google android USB driver!! uninstall every before you install this!!
4, put your neuxs 7 into boot loader mode by holding about 3 buttons.
5, connect your nexus 7 to your PC
6, If you are a windows using, using command prompt "fastboot.exe devices"
7, something should come up. then you are in the right track.
8, type fastboot.exe flash recovery recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.3-grouper
9, you should get a message saying everything is install correctly.
10, using vol down to go the recovery mode on your device. The CWM should be installed!!!
11, Download any android ROM for nexus 7, and simply install it using CWM!!
12, Adb doesn't work on me because I can't get into USB debug mode. You have to use an OTG USB cable. Copy the ROM to an USB driver and connect that USB to your nexus using this OTG USB cable.
13, install!!! done!!!

Could you elaborate a little more on what step you picked from the main menu of that software? I'm not having any luck getting my Nexus fixed.
Posted my thread for help here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2560975
Guess I will try megapig's suggestions next. I've tried so many procedures and none of them are working.

Thanks, I did manage to get it fixed last night. Posted update in my thread.

[Q] Nexus 7 sits on boot screen, but I can still access TWRP recovery

Hello!
Long story short: when I turn on my Nexus 7 flo it hangs at the Google screen after updating Ubuntu Touch. I can access TWRP recovery. I've tried re-flashing the kernel with kernel_kexec_flo_441.zip and multirom with TWRP_multirom_deb_20140204.img and it still doesn't work.
More details;
I installed Ubuntu Touch on my Nexus 7 (2013) 16GB (thus the flo variant). Everything went fine, and I could boot to Ubuntu. Then Ubuntu updated, and it errored when attempted to update something to do with init...I can't remember exactly what package it was, but it was init-related (so I'm quite sure this is the cause of my problems).
Any thoughts on what I should do to try to rescue it? Or any backups I should do before proceeding? Should I flash it with the default Nexus 7 firmware (razor-kot49h)? I'm afraid flashing the stock firmware will just lose access to TWRP and end up worse than before.
Thank you so much. Please let me know what additional details you think might help.
Tim
First of all, the N7 2013 forum is over here.
But I'll help you. So, is your N7 the Wi-Fi or the LTE variant? Because the kernel file you mentioned is for flo (Wi-Fi), but the recovery is for deb (LTE).
If you flash a factory image, you lose all your data (incl. custom recovery), but it's still the best way to save your device.

I apologize, I got that wrong. Let me clarify: I have the WiFi version (flo), and in TWRP I flashed the files: multirom-20140126-v22-flo.zip and kernel_kexec_flo_441.zip (I copied the wrong name in my post above, I never even downloaded the deb file).
So assuming I don't mind losing any of the data I should just flash the stock image? Would it be prudent to make a backup with flatline or anything else first?
Thank You,
Tim
Flatline is only for the 2012 editions. If I were you, I would make a nandroid backup from twrp (just in case) and flash the factory image. (read at least two guides before doing so, because you can hardbrick your device if you do something stupid)

It worked! Thank you! I'm back to the stock firmware. I really appreciate your help.
I'm not awfully familiar with the xda forums, is there any way to thank you besides the "Thanks" button?
You can send your soul via personal message and be my minion for all eternity... But the "Thanks" button is fine too.

[Q] Nexus 7 bootloop

My Nexus 7 (2012) went into a bootloop late last month.
It would not take a factory reset.
I had to go into fastboot mode to turn it off otherwise it would keep on rebooting.
I tried rooting it with the latest lollipop.
It still bootloops.
(I suspect because USB debugging was not on.)
I even resorted to taking it to a cellphone repair shop.
They think it might be corrupted memory.
Is there some way to verify this?
Is there any way to open it up and replace a physical component?
It has never been dropped or other mishaps.
It's been a very good tablet and I really miss it now.

Hi,
Thanks for using XDA Assist I would recommend not to attempt to repair your device on your own without having any technical knowledge about it

hi! have you tried to flash an AOSP stock image? i was having the same problem earlier, and I solved it by using nexus root toolkit to flash stock + unmount. I hope it helps!

Nexus 7 (Stock 4.1.0) - Bricked after reboot

Hi everyone.
After trying multiple custom ROMs for the Google Nexus 7 2012 (nakasi/grouper), I decided to flash the stock 4.1.0 factory image. However, as my Nexus 7 came with 4.1.2, I flashed everything in the 4.1.0 factory image, except for the boot.img, for which I used the 4.1.2 version. I used the bootloader included in the 4.1.0 factory image.
I then locked the bootloader, and booted Android. Everything was working fine, however after rebooting it, the Nexus 7 seemed to be hard-bricked. There were no visible signs of charging, and I couldn't access the bootloader, recovery or system. I was able to access APX mode, which my Windows 10 laptop recognized. Having hard-bricked a Nexus 7 years ago, I took precautions and used NvFlash to backup the proprietary files from my Nexus 7.
I've tried holding the power and volume buttons for several minutes, charging it overnight (with different chargers and via USB and AC), and even disconnecting the battery from the motherboard for a whole hour.
It was working ever since early September 2015, when I purchased it from TradeMe.
Can anyone tell me how to unbrick my Nexus 7? Help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, what's the point of backing up NvFlash files if there's no way to restore the bootloader?
Have you tried using the Nexus Rootkit? I had a similar issue with my Nexus (2012 version) and that cleared it up.

Do you mean the Nexus Root Toolkit? Yes, I'm very familiar with it, but unfortunately as I can only access APX mode, the NRT isn't much use.
Yes, Nexus root toolkit* my bad.
Cursed be yon ancient technology... You say you bricked a year ago?
Have you used CMD and ADB on your PC?

I bought my first Nexus 7 in January 2013 and accidentally bricked it in October 2013. Then, in September 2015 I bought another one. In February 2016, I used NvFlash to backup the proprietary files from the device, which can apparently be used to unbrick it via APX mode. However, I have no idea how to restore the bootloader.
ADB and Fastboot aren't supported in APX mode, as APX operates on an even lower level than the bootloader.

Indeed. This is the place to look I'd say. However, I have no idea how to restore it either. Sorry my friend.
Aye... Thats no good. What purpose does APX serve if it causes the device to be inaccessible? I'm not entirely familiar with APX..

Neither am I. Apparently restoring the bootloader is possible on an ASUS Transformer, but that device has a different partition location, so I'm guessing I'll need the right number for my Nexus 7.
Maybe I should call it quits. I mean, I have a Nexus 4 in poor condition, and a Nexus 7 2013 (and my bricked Nexus 7 2012, of course). I'm thinking of buying a Motorola Moto G 2014 once I've saved up enough.

Yeah... the easiest thing would be to just leave it be... I just bought mine for $30 on ebay. In perfect condition. Do some looking if you really have your heart set on having it.
And I'd say its worth saving the extra bit and going for the Moto X. The specs are much much higher and its still fairly affordable.
Thread closed. After some experimenting, I finally reflashed the bootloader!

I've made a guide on XDA about how to do it, but type "nvflash -r --download 4 x.IMG" replacing "x" with a bootloader from a factory image.
