This is going to make the custom ROM scene for this line of phones, if it ever exists, a nightmare. And it's the exact reason why I just may not purchase this phone now. Who in their right mind is going to make ROMs to support the 8000000 versions of the Zenfone 2 (if the right things even happen to allow it)?
I know right. Some many Models its hard to keep up with them. I'm sticking with the Intel version, because its just a repeat of the first generation of the ZenFones and the Intel version overpowers the Snapdragon 410 and 615. I just hope we get an unlocked bootloader and Official Root.

this is madness..and yet they still didnt unlock bootloader for ze551ml and keep releasing newer model..but the i am most disappointed by asus for they support on lollipop, android OS is acting like crazy on this android 5.0r2..they should focus on improving this intel version first before they get blamed by older users..

Intel powered Zenfone 2's will still continue to be Flagships. The newer Versions, i.e. Selfie, Zenfone 3 and these New Snapdragons are no competition to our device. Asus is lagging in updates. It should have fixed the battery issues by now. Asus must give users an option to Install stock AOSP on our devices. ZenUi might be great, it is also heavy on system resources and battery.
its simply like the exynos vs snapdragon time of the samsung series.. no biggie.

Well actually from what I seen.. all four ZE551ML variants (2gb z3560, 4gb z3560, 4gb z3580 32gb, 4gb z3580 4gb) have single rom and ZE550ML have separate rom...so i dont think there will be a problem...
The model numbers surely will confuse lots of users, ZE500ML is Intel and ZE500KL is Snapdragon, I predict lots of hard bricks...

Well that's good to know. I am still now leaning towards getting a used LG G3. A lot less confusion there to say the least, and I will get it for less than $300, so win-win in those two aspects.

hello .. m planning to buy a fone n this Asus Zenfone 5 A501CG came to my mind but like wanted to know the opinion of the users of this fone so asking here like wat are the flaws in this and should i buy this or there is some better one u could suggest ?
dont wana spend much coz have samsung note 4 already . but still want atleast 2gb ram fone
Zenfone 2 Laser will be better choice
Just stay away from any phone with Intel chip.
thanks a lot
@SunnyGrewal11 I would recomend you to buy other phones, intel is not the best choice, only if you want to play in emulators, zenfone 5 does an awesome job at psp and other's emulators, I recomend you zenfone 2 laser, or redmi note 3
Yes, but Redmi Note 3's software is a piece of crap. Lots of bloatware and unnecessary options are present. Just wait for Moto G4 Play to arrive at the same price as this. It'll be the best choice. It's going to be launched in a few days (In India).
Never buy a phone with intel processor in it cuz they drain battery faster . Go for moto g4 and dont do the same mistake which i did

Consider buying some other phone. This is already an old model.
No development towards this device.. it is a mediatek device..
You have to be bit patient as I think it takes time to work out something for this device.
Thanks

roftl, i just bought this device but not research it first, and what i found is the motorola it self seems not intend to work any update os, shame i buy this device, i only buying this device cuz of 4gb of ram, no custom rom developer, or any major mods to upgrade this device performance, i guess i will stick to this device as 2nd daily driver, i will still use my old redmi 4x
Got my hands on the unreleased lemax 3 (don't ask how) but the eui sucks and the phone has too many bugs, I just wanted to know that is there any rom in which I could use it
PICS AND SCREENSHOT:-https://imgur.com/gallery/c8RiH
Specs :- sd 821, 13mp dual cam nd 16 front, 6gb ram 64 gb storage, 2k display
You got that phone...? How?! It's unreleased! Please give me detailed specifications of the device. If not here, then PM me.
Also, as for the answer to your question, you won't find any ROMs for that device right now cause.. well, it's unreleased
Well i was just thinking that I can install the rom of lemax 2 or pro 3,
as for the device I got it from a company worker as u can see in the pics it has some serial no printed in the whole phone
It's specs are :- 2560*1440 resolution 5.7 inch screen, Android 60.1, snapdragon 821 with 6 gb ram 64 gb storage, 4000 mah battery 13 mp dual cam secondary is black and white cam front 16mp.
How will you install the ROM? Since it's unreleased, there's no recovery. Moving on, you can try installing a ROM from the Le Pro 3 forums, but it'll surely be extremely unstable and buggy. Probably even more so than your EUI. Still, if you're determined.. try this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/development/rom-paranoid-android-t3635168
And finally, I had been planning to buy a Le Pro 3 this Christmas, but now if the Le Max 3 is coming.. Do you know when will the phone release and what will be the expected price??
Lastly, if I helped you in any way, please press my thanks button. It slightly helps
@anmolsraj Where did you purchase the phone, from what reseller? Please don't say TinyDeal.. I was about to order one there, it might have saved me from a doomed day.
Please let us know from what source you got your device. It looks like a weird model because those models normally have one camera sensor and not two (in the rear)? Yeah the cool dual has two cams but the x7xx models should not have them?

I looked at TinyDeal on uhm trustpilot. Not going to buy it there haha..
Looks like they buy and ship after buying stock hence the price they also declare the item as its real value. Meaning that customs will rape ya.
Too bad.. I was hoping that this phone would work with Android Nougat, so that we could extract the ROM from it.
We could then have port it on the Max2 or Pro3.

So my LG is dead, and I came across this phone.
What attracted me was the looks of it, it really looks nice! (and then it had some nice specs as well )
*But, it only has 3000 mAh battery, so I wonder how this phone does on a daily usage? I came from an LG G2 D802 with 3000 mAH as well, but smaller screen. So what do you think about the battery life, and if you have any other device to compare it with ?
I am planning to buy it on Aliexpress, but before I buy, I want to know if this phone has - like many other devices a "Chinese" version that the sellers on Aliexpress flash ROM on before shipping? Or this device has actually only 1 model? I also saw that Asus has an official store on Aliexpress so I am less worried, but still
Thanks!

Hi verynoob,
ZenFone 3's CPU is Snapdragon 625 (14nm FinFET) which has good battery life & good performance thanks to Adreno 506 GPU. Well ZenFone 3 has 2 versions (ZE520KL & ZE552KL). Both has same CPU but the difference is the RAM and storage. I have listed the specifications below:
ZE520KL: 3GB RAM + 32GB ROM, 5.2 inch Full HD screen with 2650mAh battery capacity
ZE552KL: 4GB RAM + 64 GB ROM, 5.5 inch Full HD screen with 3000mAh battery capacity
*Note: Different market/region, different RAM/ROM configurations & different LTE speeds & bands
If you buy ZenFone 3 from China/Taiwan/Japan, most probably the seller will change SKU to WW (which means no OTA upgrades and you can only update your device manually)
And ASUS just released Android Oreo for our device
Hope this helps
Thank you, I see you also have the same name as the phone haha, nice
So There is no way to make it OTA update, by flashing an official ROM somehow? Or that's not possible, and it's hardware thing

Haha. Usually, ZenFone 3 that comes from China will use CN SKU and Japan will use JP SKU. On the other hand, the serial number is attached with the SKU. Once the seller changed to WW SKU, ASUS can't provide you updates. So, manual update is only way to upgrade firmware.

Thank you, it does seem worth to buy, that's why I'm so skeptic before buying it, because from some reason I never heard of it before, until I accidentally encountered it on Aliexpress. And I dont know anyone who do know about it
It seem too good, even has USB-C, Gorlla glass, it's IPS+, and a great camera, and it's not too expensive. (Although 3000mAH isn't the best comparing to Xiaomi Redmi Note 4).
It has to have some flaws! Come on guys
So, would it make sense to buy it right now? Here in Italy I could get the ZE520KL from amazon at 220€ ( 273$ )

One thing you should take a look into, if you're planning to use Custom ROMs on this phone you will be disappointed, since not many ROMs available for this phone and not so many devs are working on it either (no offcial ROMs for it if I'm not mistaken).

The better version (5.5 inch with 3000 mAH is on 250-260$) right now on Aliexpress if you wish
And for that little price difference, perhaps you should consider the Samsung Galaxy A5 2017, which some of my friends have, and it looks great, great screen, great battery life. I had a Full HD Lg G2 on a 5.2 inch display, And the A5 is also FHD on a 5.2 display, yet it looks better in my opinion, and battery life is better. I dont know how Samsung does it, much better battery life with the same capacity

Hi Guys,
i'm thinking between mi a1 and nokia 6.1 (2018), mi a1 has 1 gb more ram na dual camera but nokia 6.1 have snapdragon 630 which is almost 25% better that 625, also build design is almost premium on the nokia.
Can u please tell me what are u thinking?

I would start with SW part. Do you need/want to unlock bootloader (easy root, custom kernels, custom ROMs, ..)? If yes, forget Nokia.

Maybe Mi A1 also? :cyclops:
- Mi A1 is released Sep. 2017
- "with Android One, your phone will receive at least two years of OS upgrades to the latest version of Android"
- Nougat and Oreo were released in August, it seems P will be too
...which means, the Xiaomi Mi A1 will get Android Q for shure - if Q is officially released by Google till 31st August 2019.
It´s in the two-years-time-frame

Yes, we will receive Android Q...unofficially, Xiaomi can provide Android P (Maybe, i'm not really sure) then only security patches, nothing more, and for a 200€ phone i'm already Happy with Oreo 8.1 ?
Android One includes:
- 18 months of software support
- One major update
- Several small security updates.
We already received:
- One major update
- One minor update
- Monthly security updates
And we were promised Android P when the device launched (a second major update). I'd say we're getting our money's worth with this device

I´m with you all that there will be no official "Q" for Mi A1
But Xiaomi says "Mi A1 ships with Android Nougat, and will receive 2 years minimum of OS upgrades."

Just asking, why those things aren't possible in Nokia 6.1? Is there no official kernel source of that phone?

I prefer more RAM than slightly better chipset. From my experience, more RAM has bigger positive impact on usage than a bit faster/more effective chipset.
As mi a1 user I wouldn't recommend this **** to anyone. Newest downgrade (8.1) brought SMS wipe and throttling. I'm pretty sure this **** is like the only phone on Snapdragon 625 throttling. I tried to play music through Bluetooth speaker and used Facebook messenger and device was almost unusable, typing was laggy like hell.
Xiaomi is disappointment, I don't get why is this brand shilled so much over internet. I just wanted a phone with android one, and I got piece of **** that gets worse and worse every ****ing "update".

Maybe ur right but u must consider that snapdragon 630 have LPDDR4 dual channel on 1333MHz and SD 625 is single channel LPDDR3 on 933 Mhz, this means SD 630 have faster ram and lower power consumption (better battery). Also here is X12 LTE vs X9 LTE, Quick charge 4.0 vs 3.0, and more important Adreno 508 vs 506 which 508 have 30% better performances.
How u can see SD 630 have a lot of advantage, i think if u have SD 625 VS 626 then maybe is smarter to get +1 ram unlike chipset, but how i said SD 630 is one generation at front 625 in all aspects.
Thank u for ur help and suggestions.

While memory interface is faster, there is no reason why the power consumption should be better, in fact the Nokia 6.1 has poorer battery performance in the gsmarena review. There is no practical benefit from X12 lte vs X9 or faster QC 3.0 vs 4.0. The real world differences is very slight or zero. The MiA1 does not have QC at all which I do not see as a downside since QC degrades the battery faster especially lower capacity ones like the MiA1.
The big plus of the A1 is the larger and more involved modding community compared to the nearly zero Nokia forum activity which was probably why you chose to post here. There is help for many issues like low light camera performance whereas Nokia doesn't even have an official (almost zero unofficial, probably buggy) TWRP.
And since you aren't interested in modding or rooting and going to upgrade the phone in 1yr, why is the raw performance of the SOC so important? You shouldn't be bothered if its a 625 or 630 at all in that case since the difference is so slight. You sound like you are keeping it for 10yrs by fussing over the small differences in GPU/LTE etc.
