Lollipop arrives on our beloved Moto X!! - Moto X General

HI guys, I am not sure if you know about it... but I checked motorola's website, and found this
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/105221
We are excited to announce a new software update for Moto X (1st Gen.) by Motorola. This update brings Androidâ„¢ 5.1 Lollipop to your phone along with other improvements.

This shows that the update should be rolling out now?

Man, you just gave me a heart attack!
By the way, that page has been online for over three weeks now! Nothing to be excited about.

Ya please delete this thread. You are going to get people's hopes up for no reason. Those are just the official release notes that have been live for a while now.
Please check my thread for some more info --> http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x/general/info-testdrive-vs-soak-test-vs-t3120933

Jesus effing hell.

I just got an update, but it wasn't 5.1. It still shows 4.4.4. Anyone know what this is ?

Anyone else still waiting for the OTA?

Pure edition here. Using old SIM from original first generation Moto X.
Pure edition on At&t go phone plan still waiting for OTA. I actually had to get a new sim as the one from my original moto x 2013 was causing fits. I hope we are not the forgotten ones!
Anyone know how long it should take on the average to push these OTA's?
I don't think anyone has got it other than the people on the soak test. I know the LG G3 got it today and the Nexus 5 did as well. So looks like Moto X will be 3rd in line....
Same boat here. PE on AT&T, mobile share plan with new SIM.

Soak is actually done and final images are indeed being pushed out. OTAs are pushed in stages though and it can take up to a few weeks to get it. You can always download the ota zip from the thread here and install it. it is motorola oficial file so, assuming you have a pure edition phone you should be good to go!

I can't comment if it has rolled out or not but the ota zip that has been captured is from the soak test. We are yet to capture the one from the official ota, even if it is supposedly the same build.

I believe that final version is 22.11.6 and that is the same that is hosted on graffixnyc's thread. I think that soak files were up to .5.
Then again, i may be wrong but this is what I gather from around the web.

A friend of mine has a LG G3 and nothing so far.
Pure Edition on T-Mobile with SIM that shipped with phone and nothing yet for me.
32GB Pure Edition here, no OTA.
It's really starting to look like they pulled it. I haven't heard of anyone getting it in the last few days.
I have two going theories right now:
1) The OTA push was a mistake and they simply meant to expand the soak, but messed up. Once they caught it, they stopped the OTA from going any further.
2) They were spooked by the L specific bugs that have been reported, and pulled the OTA. Also maybe having something to do with moto specific customizations. Such as the conflict between the new Google Search always listening feature and Moto Voice? Etc etc.
I have another theory : this was just a rush between lg, moto and others for marketing purposes. Just bad announcement and paper launch but nothing is ready yet.

LOL that's entirely possible. Over promise and under deliver can only get you temporary good press, though
If true, it will eventually come to bite Moto on the ass.

The otas for the n5 and 4 have been pulled because of an sms bug, the n6 is also affected and so seems the moto x from my own experience, although this bug only seems to affect vodafone.nl users
I just received my Pure Edition today, and I haven't seen anything regarding the update yet. I was contemplating flashing the soak zip, but I think I'll wait until the update actually hits. 4.4.4 is good enough for me right now, anyway... especially since it doesn't have all the crap that my Note 3 had on it.
Apparently a couple of the HTC phone are being updated in Friday Nov 21.....
I had direct correspondence with an engineer from Motorola regarding some of the bugs. He has gone silent in the last week.
I would also find it plausible that they have stopped the roll out and will be pushing a new update when bugs are ironed out. He and I were talking about the Bluetooth streaming issues.

The official build is .6 doesn't matter if it came from that last soak test or not. A build is a build. The .6 from the soak test turned out to be the official build. Now if the build number had been different that's one story.. And also just FYI.. The .6 zip in my thread.. Was taken from a guy not even part of the soak test, he never signed up. The .5 zip was taken from someone in the soak test but not the .6 one. I wish people would know what they are talking about before they just say things.
I'm sure its still in the soak test phase. I bet we are still a couple of weeks off from getting the official update for everyone...

[INFO] TestDrive vs. Soak Test vs. Full Deployment + News Update [2015-06-23]

Thanks to David Schuster, we have a nice clear and concise distinction. (https://plus.google.com/+DavidSchuster/posts/7gyi8NQZTZB)
TestDrive --> Early validation to a small group (20-200) of individuals that can last weeks to months.
Soak Test --> Next stage, using the final release candidate lasting usually 2-7 days.
Full deployment --> Last stage, full roll out of update.
Moto X 1st Gen 5.1 Update (2015-06-23):
--> Looks like the final release version will be 222.21.15 for those who didn't know already. (https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/105221)
--> Full soak tests for France and Germany Retail. (https://plus.google.com/+DavidSchuster/posts/ETpoNrkmmrA)
--> Started soak tests for the following retail devices: Belgium, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Australia, Hong Kong, India, Kuwait, Malaysia, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore and United Arab Emirates. (https://plus.google.com/+DavidSchuster/posts/ci1UAEv2oYB)
--> Full deployment for US Retail, Rogers Canada and Brazil Retail. (https://plus.google.com/+DavidSchuster/posts/bEVD4De32Uo)

I've been part of all the prior soak tests but no invite for me yet.
Just FYI, that's speaker phone problem is not an issue in the .15 for US.
Not all , I think will get 5.1.1.1 no 5.1 between to late this month.

Saw a post of a chat to Moto support somewhere on the forums where the Moto employee answering said we will get M. But we all know to take this kind of thing with lots of pinches of salt.

Motorola support employees know nothing about updates. They are reading from a script, and they don't really know what to say about future updates. So, yeah, no pinches of salt, just ignore whatever they say.

Yeah, I saw the screenshot too, but it was painfully vague and only mentioned that the 2013 X may be eligible. So, yeah, double suspect there. We'll probably get more half baked Cyanogen forks of M and that's it.

Yeah you probably right. I can't see them doing all of this over again to give us M. They might just can everything after 5.1, which will be a shame considering its such an awesome handset.
Check the first post for some more updated info. Soak tests happening all over now. Just no full roll outs...
Does anyone have news about GB Retail? I know David hasn't listed it but maybe theres been some leaks?

While I honestly don't care for official updates, I would be gladly surprised if LG did give this device a 5.1 (hopefully 5.1.1) update.
On the other hand, the website seems like a clickbait site, so see if you can find a more reliable source.
Why shouldn't lg give 5.1? 5.1 falls in 2 year support cycle

This phone was born with JB, we got KK and now LP
I think we wont get nothing else from official stock lg.
But Cyanogen,Paranoid,Aosp,Resurretion remix,Aicp,Slim,blisspop... And all stock modded and ports still under develop for years
In my opinion, the Lollipop 5.0.2 update brings some issues (like memory leaks, call problems) that can't be solved until the 5.1.1 update, so LG will probably be forced to push the 5.1.1 at some point in time. They can't leave their smartphones in a bad state for a last update.

We need somebody here to report they in fact received this update.
LG needs to push a new set of code for us to look at.
This probably isn't true, otherwise the forums would be buzzing right now.

T-Mobile says Note 4 MM released

Here's the answer I just got on Twitter, copied below.
*******************************************************
Hey there Steven! I completely understand where you're coming from there, because the Marshmallow update hugely improves android phones! Believe it or not, the Android 6.0 has already started rolling out to customers with the Note 4! The thing I've noticed though so far is that there is no way to force the update onto the phone. I do suggest following the update document for your Note 4, and follow the portion for updating via Samsung Smart Switch on a PC. I've personally seen a few people able to update to Android 6.0 on the Note 4 by doing this, but in some situations we do have to wait for the update to push out in an OTA update (over the air update). Here's a link for how to update your phone in multiple ways: http://t-mo.co/1Brc5CC and here's the phone list of phones currently pushing out the Android 6.0 update: http://t-mo.co/17OlLdK If you have any questions let me know! *KennethD

Here is everything we know for certain about the update: the X Pure/Style is on the upgrade list.
That's it.
Wonder if it'll be 7.0 or 7.1.1. Somehow I get the feeling we're going to get the shaft and end up with 7.0.
Well i probably guess it could be 7.1.1 even nexus 6 got 7.1.1 so we could also get the same

I am hoping for this too. But the fact is there is absolutely nothing official from Motorola regarding version or time frame at this time. All we know is that they plan to update the Moto X Pure/Style. Anything else is just speculation.
Posted in the wrong thread sorry. I have corrected the error.

While not sure if this happened to DU but I do know that for awhile mods and admins here were allowing people to take credit for work they did not do. A number of Devs got very angry when little jerks were taking their work and renaming Roms and using tools they had built without giving credit. This blew up into a big tiff and a number of very good devs left XDA and even some major project players like DU left and have not been back. I have no idea why this was allowed to transpire but it was ugly for about a year. I suspect there were other behind the scenes issues that I as a non dev was not aware of as well.

No... No one has gotten it or seen any news on it at all, in fact it is entirely possible it won't happen at all.
If it occurs, the soonest we would see a mass roll-out is early March knowing Moto's 45-60 day soak test policy.
Patience...
Meh. I really want to upgrade, but I'm still on LP! It's gonna suck going to MM then N. Not looking forward to it!
any news ?
I am kind of worried about this. I have my SD card formatted as "internal storage". If I update to 7.0 will this interfere and make me lose all my data like photos and videos?
Don't forget, anyone participating in a soak test is NDA'd from even discussing that they're participating in a soak test .... so there's really no way to even know if it's under test somewhere.

What kind of card are you using? I have messed up a SanDisk ultra a lexar and a Samsung card using it as internal. It stopped reading it and then everything in my cards was lost.
I just received a security update today for my Moto X Pure. Is that a precursor for Android 7?
No not really just a regular security update roll up. Moto has been sending them out every 3 to 4 months and they are usually several months behind when they come out.
