I have just bought a new Note 4. It has a really annoying problem.
Basically, it misses touches. I mean, about every ten to twenty taps, I have to tap the screen again because it didn't register the tap. It does it everywhere in the UI and in all apps. I have updated to lollipop and updated the firmware via *#2663#. I have factory reset it. It did it within a few seconds of starting. It's really annoying while playing games. Funnily enough, it doesn't seem to do it while typing on the keyboard. That makes me think it's a software issue...but the fact I have updated the firmware and factory reset makes me wonder.
I haven't rooted it or modified it in anyway.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance.

I'm running Black 2.5 as my ROM, but it's happened on all ROM's, including the Cingular stock WM5 rom. The keyboard just stops working. It comes back sometimes on it's own a few minutes later, and always after a soft reset, but what causes it?
Does this happen to anyone else, and is it a hardware issue, or a software issue?
Does happen to me sometimes. Had one this morning. Not only k/b, but the scroll wheel as well.
Keyborad not responding
Hello,
Have same problem after flashing rom.
I thought that maybe I did it wrongly but also my friend discover this issue.
From time to time external keyboard not responding and on-screen keyboard is working but DEL key is also dead.
Also other buttons like green/red phone keys not respondig.
Sometimes problem disapper automaticaly sometimes I have to reset phone.
Any solution?
Has anyone found information on this problem? I have had my 8525 for about 6 months now and this has happened to me on the original shipped ROM as well as both Black 2.5 and 3.0.1.
It happens usually during texting, and like stated previously, sometimes it comes back on its own, and sometimes it takes a soft-reset to get it working again. I am able to finish the typing using the SIP before soft-resetting.
I haven't paid attention to whether or not the scroll wheel stops working or not. I'll keep an eye out for that. Also I can't figure out what's triggering this problem. It seems very random.
I would start to think it's a hardware problem since I have seen it on 3 different ROMs, but so many of us are experiencing the same issue.
Happens on my Vario 2 sometimes. I've put it down to me using the keyboard whilst the CPU is bogged down too much, and it just doesn't 'see' the interrupts coming from the keyboard I/O controller, and then it loses its sync.
I usually just soft reset at that point, because I can't be bothered to wait and see if it comes back
I have it sometimes when using IM and PIE. Closing PIE and waiting a couple of minutes usually brings it back.
Hi.
I'm using the device for a month now and today a weird thing started to happen. There's a certain area in the screen that's just not responsive.
I haven't dropped the phone ever and I'm not rooted. It happened while I was customizing my homescreen with Nova Launcher.
I've tried a factory reset, I have also pushed the power button for 10 sec.. Nothing helped. The first occurrence of this was that my screen was completely unresponsive, I rebooted and then only the certain area was unresponsive.
Thanks in advance.
Best to request a RMA from Google.
The thing is that it worked perfectly until now. Also, sometimes it works for couple of minutes, then it becomes completely unresponsive, and when I lock->unlock then the certain area is unresponsive.
update
You have a faulty device, you are going to have to do a RMA.
Are you using touch control or similar sweep2wake apps with a custom kernel?
If that's the case you should delete it.
How come it hasn't happened until now? I am not using any custom kernel and I have done factory reset so there aren't any apps on the device.
UPDATE: *Sometimes* when I touch the "dead" area and it works, the whole screen becomes unresponsive immediately. What could have happened?
Hey guys.
My mom uses a Nexus 7 as her tablet, and is having trouble with the screen randomly detecting touches that aren't there. After messing with it, I've noticed it's about an inch from the bezel on the right side of the screen, and touches there randomly whenever you try to touch somewhere on the screen. It's most annoying becuase when she tries to browse her apps, it just keeps hitting email over and over again.
A temporary fix is to simply turn the screen off and on. It comes back at random intervals though. I've gone 30 seconds without it happening, and I've gone days without it happening.
I've done plenty of google searches and never found a solution, just a bunch of threads with replies of "I have the same problem." Even just knowing if it's hardware or software would help me out. She's thinking about getting an iPad (I'm trying to discourage that option. My iOS experience was never that great) If it's hardware, I'll suggest other tablets. If it's software, I'll try to fix it.
Also, she updated whenever an update released. I thought that if it was a software/firmware issue, I could load a custom ROM on it and fix it. so Iloaded the latest CyanogenMod onto it. Still does it,though not as often, and now it closes windows randomly.
I received my 32G model on Nov 28. Firmware MDA89D. Pure stock unmodified in any way. Not even using screen protection or cases. Setup as a new device, not copy from another existing device. I've been getting randon freezes and crashes. When it froze, it did not respond to any touch input or any key input. The only way to get back is to hold down the power button to do a force reboot. It seemed to have settled over the last few days. What I do have on an ongoing basis is crashes. When I use Google map navigation, the phone will work for a few minutes and the screen went black followed by a reboot. It did it on 2 consecutive days already.
Is it just me having this problem therefore a defective unit or is it the OS / Software problem.

That is strange...I haven't had that kind of behavior on my Nexus 6-works without a problem-never freezes or reboots...now I know the Amazon app would do something to my Nexus 6 I don't know what but when I install it-my phone with reboot randomly or shut down...ever since I uninstalled it-no issues-for months.
Try running safe mode and see if it does it again-that way you will know if it is an app that's causing the issues. This is how it's done: http://www.greenbot.com/article/2923927/how-to-restart-your-android-phone-into-safe-mode.html
You can always try a factory reset as well....have you tried updating to the most recent factory image from Google?

I've been experiencing the black screen freeze frequently since getting the phone only a couple days ago. No other lockups however. Also running pure stock.
I too have the same issue. Screen goes blank and lock ups. Also running pure edition...
Same. Interestingly, in my case, it seemed to happen most frequently when using Hangouts.
I have another post that describes random reboot and I believe they are related. Long story short. I believe either the factory reset + software update fixed it, or it's a hardware problem problem. While I wait for the replacement, I only had one random reboot. Of course the new phone is rock solid. It's only been a couple of days. I would have a few by now if I'm still on original phone _ original firmware.

I'm having the same issue. So no random freeze leading to reboot with ur rma device?

What I'm trying to say is don't panic and RMA your device. Do a factory reset and make sure you're on the latest firmware. Mine was OK after the first self-reboot during setup after factory reset but has been good while waiting for the RMA to arrive. To answer your question, the new device has been perfect but it's only been 48 hours.
I am facing a similar issue with my Nexus 6P, can anyone please help me with it?
On any rom, whatsoever, I get reboot when I turn the Google Maps Navigation On.
After few minutes, phone just reboots
I havent yet tried stock, any idea how can I find the root cause? I have cleared data for maps, also I have tried to uninstall maps with TiBackup and installed fresh from Play Store

Yup same stuff going on over here with mine. It locks up and reboots even after clearing cache and rebooting only a few hours earlier. Have done 2 factory resets and am on the latest OTA update. I also noticed that I have to clear the cached data every day, sometimes multiple times a day to keep device running smoothly. This really concerns me with a device that's less than 2 weeks old. I also have only a handful of basic apps( Fb, YouTube, Spotify). Really thinking about returning it. When the phone runs right its great, but all the issues make me nervous. Might be time for a Note 5? I am just getting used to this phone and would hate to leave it though. Interested to see if the first major marshmallow update fixes these problems.

Mine actually had one random freeze and reboot after factory reset then nothing for 48 hours after that. Of course I rma'd mine and I'm glad I did. Screen is on the colder side with even volume speakers on the second unit. Sending my original one back.

I'm just about ready to RMA. I've tried factory resets, cache wipes and just recently updated to the latest stock MDB08M. It was fine for a day or two but now the lockups are increasing.
As others have said, by any other metric this is one of the best phones I've had. This freeze/reboot thing is getting annoying and even if it isn't happening to every user it's happening to enough to be of some concern.
I'm facing app closures, my gmail app keeps crashing, it happened on my graphite nexus 6p, and now same thing on my frosty 6p. Its not just gmail, it's also chrome now. Maybe i should have not restored from my previous device.
what's this?
I came to this thread expecting a lot more of a technical discussion (the site is called xda DEVELOPERS after all).. but instead all i see is "oh my phone is crashing.. i'm gonna RMA this sucks) posts.. moving on to android enthusiasts on stack exchange thank you very much
upgrading to 6.0.1 fixed it!

Hi there,
After my Galaxy S10 Plus was updated to newest June firmware, I have annoying problem with the keyboard (all kind of keyboard: samsung, google, swipe,…). When I unlock the phone, and immediately (within 1 – 2 seconds after unlocking) type words, the keyboard lags and takes 2 – 3 seconds to appear.
For specific situation, when I am on chat screen, the keyboard is showing up, and then I turn off screen. After the phone is unlocked, the screen is still on chat screen, but keyboard doesn’t show up (like it is forced to disappear when the phone is locked). After that, when I immediately click to input words to continue chatting, the keyboard takes times to appear and shows some lagging.
It doesn’t happen when I wait a little bit after unlocking phone, or when I use phone for a while. I didn’t met this problem before.
I tried several methods like hard reset, clear cache data, etc, but it is ineffective.
Please help me to solve this problem.
Thank you so much.
Hi,
I have the same issue on S10.
Does anyone have a way of fixing it? It is driving me insane.
Same problem
I have the same exact problem with my Note 9.
Tried everything, wipe all data, use another keyboard, but still, after unlocking the phone, the keyboard doesn't show up for 4-5 seconds. ??*
