Null IMEI, Unknown Baseband - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Please don't be upset with me and Please bare my little experience, Thank you very much.
I noticed that such issue was discussed before in this section of the forum, The problem is too many referral threads I don't know which one to follow, I'm honesty lost! , Right now while I'm posting this issue there's six threads in front of me relevant with this but as I said don't know which one to follow and where to start from.
I was't satisfied with the performance of the new version of Android (Lollipop), so I decided to downgrade to JellyBean 4.4.2 , since then I had Null IMEI, Unknown Baseband & unstable system (restars and apps crahses).
The device is Galaxy Note 3 LTE Qualcomm version.
Again, Thank you in advance for your help.

You simply restore your backed up EFS folder .
Flash OB6 lolli[pop rom .
You need to read the faqs and guides before flashing its not risk free .

All good problem is solved. Thank you very much you did help indeed.

Then you cannot restore it .
Try flashing the OB6 lollipop firmware if that fails its a paid for service centre repair .

It's possible to fix... but the main issue is, you can't go down from Lollipop to 4.4 without issues. Some say they can do it, but I think it depends a lot on what bootloader and kernel you're using.
You can try to fix it like this:
First - you have to go back to Lollipop and flash official samsung firmware for your device and country/region.
If you go back to stock, hopefully everything is restored. Latest firmware for your country might be different. Mine is OC3 (similar to OB6 but not the same)... but you can try OB6 first to see if it worked.
**Just remember, it has to be the same region as yours was before.
Here is link where you should download from. If you register there, the download speed will be faster than 15kb/s ... it will be more like 100-300 (either way, just wait for it to download).
hxxp: etc sammobile.com and go to firmware page and select your model and country

Thank you very much.
I live in Australia and my carrier is Optus, however official Lollipop stock firmware for Australia hasn't come yet. I have used UK - O2 stock firmware which came out recently, everything is okay: Baseband, IMEI etc.. all came back and available now but phone signal still weak (two bars or no signal blank triangle most of the time). I will wait for that one and when available I will flash it and see.. if signal is still not good then I'll proceed to buy signal antenna replacement from Ebay.
Thanks again.

Its probably the UK modem is your problem .

What JJEgan said... maybe you can try UK (H3G) stock... as modem previous matches your Australian NG1 then goes to OB1 (instead of OC1). Either way, it can't be worse to try... just make a backup of current installation so you can revert back if H3G isn't better.
(otherwise, just have to wait for Oz to get their version). Good luck!

Solution for soft-bricked N9005 after flashing Hong Kong's TGY firmware

I am posting this to help people who ran across the same problem I did the past 24 hours, which drove me crazy and it was quite difficult to find any info on it.
I bought my N9005 on eBay from a Hong Kong seller. I just updated it with Kies and noticed that sammobile.com has a newer MJ8 firmware, so I figured I'd just download it and flash it via Odin.
Kies shows my mobile as XME (Malaysia region), but I guessed it should work just fine, and boy was I wrong.
Moments after trying to flash it, it failed, but it did manage to flash the beginning of the firmware, which was the new MJ bootloader. That newer bootloader does not allow any other firmware with older bootloader be flashed on the phone. Not even Kies's emergency recovery was able to revive my phone which was stuck in emergency download mode.
When trying to flash I got all sorts of errors, such as:
invalid ext4 image
and
CHECK FAIL : fused : 2 , Binary : 1. (when trying to install the older XME Malaysian Firmware on top of the new bootloader)
To make a very long story short, after almost giving up and start waiting for a Malaysian firmware with the new bootloader to be released, I ran across the UK MJ6 BTU rom which does have the new bootloader too and decided to try flashing it. To my amazement - this worked and my phone is back to life! phewwwww!
This is a download link to the BTU MJ6 firmware:

my brick story in short is------ brought note 3 sm-n9005 from ebay from a Hong Kong based seller. pics of ap, cp and csc are attached. rooted with chainfire's and installed cwm6 by chenglu. A few days back, flashed bobcat rom version 2(mj7) and later 3( mk2 ) without problems. Was looking for different themes .yesterday flashed balckchrome from s4 forum that also went smooth. Unfortunatly flashed another theme for s4 which was not meant for andriod version 4.3. Pretty stupid .went into bootloop. Had nandroid backup tried to restore but couldn't.
Flashed another rom mk2 from cwm. again bootloop .took the odin route and flashed stock deodesk mj7 by Djembey from this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2461929
Failed again. Then downloaded latest mk2 from sammobile website. The same error (invalid ext4 img) in short failed on all ccounts. Have run out of options. The last thing in mind is to wait for some new bootloader after mk2 which might rescue me as mentioned in this thread that new bootloaders might help... Any guidance will be appreciated. Thanks
@pyarajaani
Try this:
1) Get X-Note v6 custom rom.
2) Use Odin to install CWM recovery.
3) boot the phone into CWM recovery and copy the X-NOTE rom (MK2 based) to your phone or card.
4) Do a complete wipe/factory-reset from CWM
5) Install the X-NOTE rom from CWM
And let me know how it went

Why did you suggest X-Note but not another ROM?
3 reasons:
- It's MK2 based
- I am using it
- It's excellent
And besides, if the method I suggested works, he can always replace a ROM later on if he wishes.

Nope, I didnt mean what is the best rom to use.
The problem is that how to bypass the bootloop issue.

yes...I did that n installed X note rom from cwm. BUT I suspect that cwm is not fully functional. Why I m saying this is that I have a nandroid backup of bobcat mj7 rom...which cwm isn't able to detect even. ..nevertheless. .cwm is installed.
1) Which CWM version do you have installed?
2) Did you do a full wipe/factory-reset?
3) Did you try also advanced formatting (of system partition together with the full wipe) and then install the ROM?
4) Did you try all the above with the latest TWRP recovery instead of CWM?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2467255
Try to flash this file by cwm first and then flash any rom after you want

After flashing the sm-n9005 to N9005DXUENE4 the phone is not function at all. Though I can still boot into the system it becomes very laggy, baseband unknown, imei null sound and camera not working. Did try to flash Sweetrom V7 still the same. Anyway if there's a way I can bring it back to life?
Try to flash back stock rom..or restore thru kies 3 will be much better..

IMEI NULL/NULL is modem or hardware problem
My guess is that it is due to a modem/firmware mismatch. Start flashing a modem for same fw version.
did that already, one more thing the phone keyboard and the swipe to unlock is not responsive at all.repair.

When arrive the problem and which rom and modem do you have before?
You need to go back on this... you Don t have efs backup?????
Otherwise try to put NF2 modem with NF4 rom. Bootloader is not important.
But check if modem well installed because odin says PASS but still on old modem
Try to flash latest NG2 firmware after whipe cache and factory reset. It did the job for me.

And another question my first N9005 slept in water during almost whole night. When i wake up in the morning i found my phone in water since many hours. I give it repair shop to check also but seems to main board needs to be replaced. Connection sockets damaged badly like melted half of them. is it possible to only change the connection sockets instead of whole mainboard ? Any idea ? and Where can i get only the connection sockets ? from samy ? ))
And i am starting the googled to find N9005 mainboard sockets
You re the terminator of N9005.? ....... no idea about motherboard or connector sorry....
I am having the same issue,
I'm new to the site been cool so far learned a lot and done a lot with my Note 3 since being here.
I recently rooted and install a custom rom (N900_NF3_INU_Dr.Ketan Custom ROM K11) that works great, I tried flashing back to stock but encountered a major problem. after flashing to stock my IMEI is unknown and also my base-band from reading it seem as if my EFS got corrupted tried a ton of different thing and still I cant get this to work on stock. Only way my IMEI and base-band comes back is whenever I reinstall the custom rom (N900_NF3_INU_Dr.Ketan Custom ROM K11) and restore the EFS that was backed up during the first installation of this rom
Thanks in advance all help is greatly appreciated. :good::good:

Baseband Unknown and no IMEI number

Hi All
I have the following error on my Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Exynos (N900).
My phone was rooted and Ive been running a custom ROM. Now I want to go back to stock but when I load any stock rom I get the Baseband Unknown and no IMEI number problem.
I have tried
* 4 different stock roms - same issue
* flashed separate modem driver - same issue
* restored EFS folder/partition - same issue
The only way I can get it to work again is by loading the custom ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2503206).
Seeing as the custom ROM works and everyone says the problem is with the EFS folder. I backed up the EFS folder with Custom Rom loaded and restored the EFS folder with stock ROM loaded. Still the same issue - Baseband Unknown and no IMEI number.
I know there are a lot of posts regarding this issue and all seem to point to the EFS folder. Mine however doesnt seem to be a EFS folder issue.
Any other ideas?
Just FYI I also ran the KNOX warranty reset (not sure if this is relevant)
Thank you
Morne
Only thing that fixed my phone with that same issue was SPT box. Ask your local repair shop
I had unknown baseband and null imei yesterday on my N9005 after flashing stock rom using Odin. After 5 hours trying to find a solution I almost lost hope but then I tried flashing a other modem and it worked Phone works now and I have been using it all day.
The modem I flashed is CP_N9005XXUFNG2
I flashed it on N9005XXUEND5 (Nordic)
So my tip for you is to try find a different modem for your phone and flash it using Odin
Hope it helps

I could not select to thick phone bootloader update, during stock rom installation.
We have to find necessary files sperately to correct what we did wrong, and during normal stock installation damaged side does not rewritten that results still imei null and basband unkown (
1-) i try stock rom with pit files 718 and 805 eur open 32GB for N9005 but not fixed..
2-) Tried different modems on different stock or custom roms ...
Now time to find BOOTLOADER FILES TO INSTALL WITH ODIN )
Not sure this would help but have you tried a Factory Reset with clearing all cache's? If it works then try reflashing your stock saved ROM over it to regain all your apps.
Here is what happend.
The rom I was using before I got unknown baseband and null imei was N9005XXUFNF4. Note, this is the latest UK rom. I then flashed a Nordic rom that was available at that time which was N9005XXUEND5. Note, this rom is older and uses an older modem than N9005XXUFNF4. This caused unknown baseband and null imei for me.
The reason why I flashed in the first place was because I'm from Sweden and the new update that N9005XXUFNF4 had was available OTA on N9005XXUEND5 rom.
The latest Nordic rom that I downloaded from sammobile is N9005XXUFNG2. Note, this rom uses N9005XXUFNG2 modem, the same modem I flashed on N9005XXUEND5.
Problem now is that I can't receive OTA because it now thinks that I got the latest update already because I got the latest modem installed.
I flashed latest Nordic rom N9005XXUFNG2 today and everything is working fine now.

Thanks man.
I went from the stock rom that the phone came out with in South Africa to a Russian Rom (latest version) to a custom ROM. I came right by installing N900XXUENG1_N900ODDENF1_INS (India), it is the latest version available and it worked !!!!

You're welcome
My N9005 32GB story little bit unkown.
It is Stupid Story but i did not check original rom was 4.3 or 4.4.2 ??? Because i got 2 new phones from my friends to make root and install custom ROM. One of them was 4.4.2 rom that i was sucessfully root and install omega20 ROM. I suppose both phone was same and did not checked second one then when i was installing 4.4.2 CWM KK files with ODIN phone was freeze and fail !!!
I tried many stock roms and custom roms some recovery fix scripts etc. etc. Finally i start to use Mirek's method till adb commands... Last thing that i could not success to check Mirek's method is good for my phone... Last step was writing serial number IMEI no to dev block but i could not do it...Because of my adb knowledge nothing. I did many things blindly ) let me do try and see the results...
Let's forget about past. Please advice me what should i do now to try to fix the phone.
Final status is ROM installed stock SEE ROM and my CSC now EUR but still imei null and unknown baseband... AP:N9005XXUFNG2 , CSC:N9005OXXFNG2
I am sure that the phone info shows original CSC EUR, this phone was XSI. During the custom rom installation CSC was changed. ( sweet rom can change CSC code, during aroma installation asking to select CSC ).
Any advice ?
Thanks and Regards.

Have you tried flashing a different modem?
Here is my previous post.

I have 6 different N9005 LTE modems 5 of them failed. now i am trying last one.
installing with odin two times with unthicked autobootloader as mentioned read one of the xda forum tread.
A question how can i know modem installed succsesfully because of unkown baseband phone info shows nothing !!!
is there another way to understand installed modem ?
i plan to install last E3 modem which was latest. i started from oldest to newest. on XXuFNG2 rom and csc EUR. if last one fail then i plan to follow mireks methods with adb commands. i was reading adb commands on android.com and viewed many videos on youtube about adb..
i am still working reading trying but still imei null and unknown baseband.
Same boat
I'm in the same boat as you guys!
No network, baseband, imei, nothing
I was on 4.3 MK2 XSI and flashed KK netherlands PHN stock ND3.
On first flashing, I got error "invalid ext4" on odin 3.09
Then I flashed the same ND3 with pit file and it passed.
Then this happened. no network, imei.
BTW I have EFS backup in .IMG backup which has that mc11.something file. But replacing that is of no use.
What do you guys suggest ? Can I flash NG2 stock on this XSI region stock ?
Will I require to use PIT file ?
Thanks

[Q] Problems with ROM install

Hello I would like to ask you... I have SM-N9005 (baseband) - N9005XXUBMH9 and I cant find any ROM for it, can you tell me whats the problem? Do I have any kind of testing model or what? Thank you for your answers... I really would like to install Lollipop on it, but I am afraid, because of my baseband... Thanks.
Baseband is the Modem its not the firmware .
Development is full of N9005 custom roms as is sammobile with stock roms .

Ahh sorry, so do you think that I can install any firmware on that XXUBMH9?, because i didnt find any on sammobile. I have found that XXUBMH9 was something like pre-release version or something like that...
Download and run Phone Info from play store .

And what do you need from this app ?
List everything in these tabs: General, CSC Code, Firmware
(actually, don't need all, but simpler to just tell you that than each specific thing). Easier still, take a snapshot of your screen and post them on here.
General will tell us your exact phone model, and CSC will let us know which country specific firmware you need. Firmware will let us know which version you have, so you don't downgrade bootloader and mess things up.
Many thanks to everyone who contributed

A word of caution. It may not be so but your confusion about baseband says you don't know much about ROM's, flashing and software components. I'd suggest have a read of the stickies (at top of each section such as Android Development) and learn what gives. You need to know the difference between Recovery and Download modes among other things.
Chances are you will want to root you phone so you can play more, but if all you want is LP, you can DL the Stock firmware for your phone (which is why the guys want the details from Phone INFO) and then flash it using Odin - a program you run on your PC that runs the firmware onto your phone.
N9005XXUBMH9
Feedback on that is that it was Jelly Bean Test firmware .In which case it may not be a genuine Note 3 but a sample .
SM-N9005: Android 4.3 Jellybean
(Current test firmware: N9005XXEBMH9/N9005OXABMH9/N9005XXUBMH9)

SM-N910F Baseband/Modem firmware for Android 5.1

Hi all, just updated the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 to CyanogenMod 5.1.1 ROM. Phone doesn't recognize SIM card (I live in UK) anymore, baseband is showing as "unknown" under the About Phone section. Please can someone let me know where I can download the Baseband/Modem firmware for SM-N910F?
Many thanks!
You could attempt to download the full stock firmware by either using 'Samfirm' or the website 'Sammobile'
Unbranded Note 4 CSC is BTU but it is currently still on Android 5.0.1 but the modem and bootloader will still work fine with Cyanogenmod ROMs.
Right, I did download the official Samsung firmware N910FXXU1BOC5 from a website, but when flashing with Odin 3.09 I was getting a error. So I ended up using the customized ROM which didn't seem to have the baseband/model inside. How could I extract the baseband from the official firmware in MD5 format?

Bootloader
Modem
Put your phone in download mode manually (Pull the battery out and put it back in after 10 seconds and then hold volume down + Home button and power on the device) Then connect it to your PC and run Odin as Admin and flash the bootloader and modem.
Make sure you uninstall Kies if you have it installed.

Hi mate,
I have a quick question with which I hope you can help (if you have the time of course ). There is a newer firmware version for UK, which is COK3 (and O2, which is what I have), and I'd like to update to this one, but the only way I know would be to update the phone entirely and then root it again and install whatever mod rom I'm using from there. However, this would be a painful lot of work. Do you know (or mind sharing) how to extract the baseband from an official md5 release so as to update this only or as well as the bootloader? Is there any way to put the entire firmware md5 file on Odin and tell the software to update just one thing?
I saw that you did just that above and I'm having some trouble with the phone connection being lost quite often, so it would be of great help.
Many thanks in advance for your help mate!
Cheers

Thanks for the quick response mate! You are the man! I still have a couple of questions though. Firstly, what's the difference between the cp and bl files in the link in your signature? I take it that bl stands for bootloader, but not sure of what cp stands for then. In any case, the most important bit I need/want is the baseband, and since I'm in the UK and my network carrier is O2, I believe the XXU1COK3 (as per Sammobile) would be my best bet, is that right? Will it make much of a difference with the XXU1COJ3 that I have installed right now? In any case, is the bl-cok3.tar file in your link the same XXI1COK3 baseband?
Secondly, that other post that you included is for a galaxy s3 and within that topic they link to a galaxy s4 topic, will those files and guidelines also work for our note 4?
Finally, I have TWRP recovery and within advanced backup I can individually backup the boot (which I imagine is the bootloader) and the modem (which I suppose is the baseband as such). Do you know if I could I install a new firmware through Odin and, backup the modem and boot, and then restore everything but those two things from an different rom backup? Have you ever tried?
Thank you for your time bro! I know that these might be a little bit of a newbie's questions but for more thar I search, I can't find anything close enough to answer what I'm asking.

In the bootloader and modem folders I have included the latest Odin, if you use that the 'CP' and 'BL' will make sense.
CP= Modem
BL=Bootloader
The steps should still work for the Note4.
I don't back-up and restore bootloaders or modems using TWRP.

Aah OK, that makes sense. But then the modem I am talking about is not in that list, is it? However, the bootloader is I think. Is there any chance you could extract the xxu1cok3 modem for the UK and O2 to add it to your list? ?? Pretty sure other people would appreciate it too, I know I would :good:

The modem isn't COK3, only the bootloader was.
The modem was COJ3.

Yep, that's what I thought. And the coj3 is the modem I have now (not working so well ). As I said, Any chance you could extract the cok3 modem from the full firmware to add it to your list?
Thanks in any case mate!

I don't see a point in doing that, it won't make a difference. The firmware does not have a 'COK3' modem. So I can't extract it if it doesn't exist. The O2U firmware had a bootloader of COK3, CSC of COJ1 and modem of COJ3.
If the modem isn't working well then you should flash a stock firmware for your region and apply the appropriate CSC.

In any event, thanks mate as you saved me a lot of time wasting with that last attachment
