Hi,
I've seen that the recommended way to root the 9500 is to flash the Adam kernel, then install CWM to get the SU application only properly and working. Once CWM is on the phone, is it possible to restore the original kernel and still keep root? I'd like to be able to keep the ability to get OTA updates and stay as close to stock as possible (apart from root of course!).
Regards,
Ian

Chainfire root method is available u can use that below is the link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292615
[GT-I9500] CF-Auto-Root
I guess u need to have root to make CWM work
Also if u want to have OTA I guess u can try installing pre rooted firmware available some where in this forum itself
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
Thanks for that, I'll try it tonight when I get time.
Can you point me to pre-rooted firmware in this forum? I looked at every thread in the Dev and Original Dev forums and all of them seem customised in some way. All I want at the end of this process (if possible) is a stock, rooted phone. Maybe that might be a better way to go - I'll decide tonight - but I have to find the link first!

Ian

You don't need to root or install custom recovery first. Just choose the custom ROM you would like to flash and do it. After this you can root and change recovery. Suggestions... i don't know, you choose from what is available for your device 9500 or 9505.
EDIT:
Sorry just now i realised you want to install cfw Yes then your steps are right.

Your best bet is to go into download mode and flash the official stock
firmware for your phone which you can find at http://sammobile.com
There are other ways of doing it but the other ways may not work for you.
After doing that you will need to root your phone if you want it rooted.
Good luck!
thanks you
how can i choose the firmware...i think i have something with mj7 .can you help me with the steps tha i have to do?
i had before the s3 and it was so easy to root i confuse with s4 a little bit couse i'm not expert

Flash the original ROM. You can find it at sammobile.
Hi everyone,
Just spent the best part of 2 hours wondering how I go about installing some kind of custom recovery on my wife's Note 3 (SN9005) so I can run SlimKat on it.
It's currently running MJ7 firmware.
Question: Can this phone have a custom recovery installed so I can flash a different ROM?
I understand that the bootloader is "locked", but it seems that I can still go on my merry way and install a custom recovery and ROM, but Knox will flag that I've changed it.
Can someone please explain to me my options if that's ok?
Thanks very much
No one? :/
Any info would be great
Install ROM Toolbox Pro from the Google play store. You can get recovery installation within that.

How do you manage to think that?
Doesn't that just install a ROM? I didn't think it'd somehow install a different Recovery partition or anything. You'd need Root before installing Rom Toolbox Pro first though, so I'd need to find the best/easiest way to gain Root Access on this handset first.
Thanks

Bootloader is not locked. Just install CWM/TWRP using Odin, then boot into recovery and flash your ROM.
Knox will be broken, but otherwise you should be fine.
