[Q] LG G2 D800 Help needed. possibly bricked. yes really..bricked - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So yesterday my phone worked great. I work outside for the most part. It rained its ass off. Phone did not get wet that im aware of. no water drops or anything on it. Had it inside my waterproof jacket. This was early morning..10am or so. I get home from work around 7pm. Phone still works. battery is getting very low though. At 8pm phone reboots..which it randomly does sometimes. I set it down, come back to it awhile later and realize it never came back on. Figured the battery was completely drained past 5%. plugged it into stock charger (not stock cable though but a highend cable still). Phone wouldnt boot up or power on or even show any signs of life. Tried other cables, charges, USB ports on computer, even car charger. Nothing. Set it on charge over night. Still not even a LED blink. Set it on car charger all day while at work. Not even a blink. I took it apart (taken many phones apart in my time haha) disconnected battery and plugged it in...nothing. tried power/volume down, power/volume up, all 3 buttons. held all button combos for over a minute. Still nothing at all. I have a new battery on order that I can slap in there and see if the battery is just completely shot but does anyone else have any ideas on what i can do to get it up and running again? Already had to buy a new phone G3! because i HAVe to have one for work. So i want to get this one working again so i have a backup in case this ever happens again.
Thanks for any and all help

tried to enter download mode, recovery mode, every mode i know of. with no luck.

and forgot to mention. when plugged into computer the computer does not notice anything has been plugged in at all. no sound at all. nothing under device manager

well i got the new battery in. didnt work. still no power at all. anyone else know of something i can try? i know the screen isnt dead because it would still give out sound when turned on or vibrate. but that doesnt happen either. is there some other thing i could test? how would i test the motherboard? power button?

This sounds like exactly what happened to my phone about two weeks ago. Phone was randomly rebooting one morning in strange intervals. Once or twice an hour at first, then more often as the day progressed. By the end of the day the phone wouldn't even turn on anymore. I had thought it was the battery as well but after bringing in to an electronics repair shop, it was diagnosed as a bad motherboard and the guy quoted me $130 to replace it. Considering you can buy the D800 off contract brand new for about $220 off the internet, I declined. I'm still really upset about it. I had already had it replaced by AT&T while it was under warranty. However, now my warranty has expired. I really liked the phone overall but now I'm not so sure I trust LG's hardware.
I'm using my brother's old iphone 4 now and it drives me flippin' crazy. I want to get a new phone as soon as possible but I don't know what to get. I'm so torn on the whole issue. Was thinking about the S6 but I've had bad luck with samsung in the past as well. I'd get a newer iphone but ios is so lame compared to Android. I hope you find a better solution than I did. :crying:

bricked phone??

hey all, like most people here, i've been flashing my phones like crazy for the past couple days to trying out all the new roms it's been fine for the last couple days and sundenlly it just stop working this morning. It wouldn't turn on or anything, when i plug the usb in, window gives me an error as it cannot connect to the phone. I try the charger and it wouldn't charge(the charging light on the phone wouldn't turn on). I just got my phone replace last week due to theft. So is my phone bricked? I've flashed my phone alot and each time i wipe everything, could that be the problem? if i take it back to sprint store you think they would send me a new one? thanks.
Take it in and find out...
Just curious... what rom were you running when that happened?

Pull out the battery, remove charger.
Put the battery back in and dont press anything. Plug it into the wall and see after ~60 seconds you get a charge light.
I just got my phone replaced with the exact problem. Took it to sprint and they ordered me a new one under the HTC warranty, no problem. I didnt say anything about flashing just that it stopped charging and would not turn on anymore.

Just remember that if they get the phone to boot after you turn it in and they find out its rooted/ROM'd that they can fine you the entire price of the phone. Not trying to scare you but it has happened to people. However, it does seem there have been quite a few complaints about USB "issues".

I too have had the usb charging issue. Try moving the usb cable around in the phone and see if it contacts. Mine does by lifting up on it. I called Sprint to see what they can do and they said that it is caused by the user. I laughed at them and said some not so nice words then hung up on them. Then took it to a Sprint store and they ordered a new one for me without any questions.
as a side note I am glad they are replaceing it cause now the speaker is blown and the paint is peeling from the power button.
Also, FYI, my kid's hero's charger died on him (the one out of the box). We thought his phone was broken because it would not charge or be recognized by the USB. Then we tried out my charger and, boom, all good.
Worth a shot....
alright guys, thx everyone for the reply, status update: I try everything that was mention here, pull bat and putting it back(several times), moving charging cables, letting the charger sit 60sec, none of it work. I know my phone wasn't out of batteries cuz when i went to sleep it was about 86% left, so i thought my bat blew out on me after a week of usage. so i just left my phone in my pocket and after a while it started getting hot, i was like wtf, and took out the bat immediately. i leave the bat out for about 30min, put that sucker in again, and voila, it power up, everything was back to normal...anyone know wth's going on? of course i'm very happy my phone is working again

G2 Powered Itself Off...For Good.

Yesterday I FINALLY received my new G2. Playing around with the device I was very excited at It's functionality and performance. I did get unlucky enough to receive one with loose hinges, but they didn't seem that big of a deal to me.
However, after owning the device for only 8 hours, I tried a little angry birds and setup Galactic Core live wallpaper. I flipped the keyboard open and noticed that the wallpaper disappeared to a black background. Hmmm, fairly odd. Closed the keyboard and still bring it back. Attempted to re-apply the wallpaper which didn't work either. I was getting ready to power cycle the phone when it turned itself off.
Tried pressing the power button and opening the keyboard. Nothing. Tried taking the battery out and then attempting to power the device on. Nothing. Tried plugging in the power cable to both the AC charger and a USB port on my PC. Nothing. Tried swapping the battery with the demo model at work. Nothing. I don't get any sound, vibration or even so much as a charging LED out of the device. I've pressed about every button and the device is non responsive.
So with all of the G2 bugs of this nature I am reading about (People with the same issue except theirs turns back on after a battery pull), is there a trick I'm unaware of or is this thing DOA?
DOA means dead on arrival, yours clearly wasn't dead when you received it , just call tmo and have them exchange you for another one.

Gee, thank you for the sarcastic response.
This is probably a dumb question, but does the battery have any charge left in it? You could try plugging into the charger, waiting a couple of minutes, then trying to turn it on. Past that, I think the only solution would be to have TMO send you a new one.
If you can't even get the charging LED to come up then I would gather you've got a dud phone (hey, it can happen). I assume you'd let it sit there in attempts to charge the phone?
Just for curiosity's sake, have you tried plugging it into a computer?
If all else fails, just go back to T-Mo and exchange it for another one.
Maybe try holding volume down and power for the recovery mode?

[Q] Help with DVP - won't turn on

Hello. I created this account so I can finally ask some of my questions regarding this phone. I've had it since the January 6th shipping, and it's really been fine for the most part. I've the 8 gig version.
Anyway - within the last few weeks my phone has been refusing to charge on random occasions (it's really very random as to when it will charge and when it won't) - both plugged into the wall outlet via the USB power converter that came with my phone and plugged into my computer.
It's been pretty annoying, but nothing I couldn't work around. It would charge eventually.
However, last night I plugged it in to the outlet and it made the noise confirming it was plugged and started charging. This morning, I unplug it and it's non-responsive. It doesn't respond to anything. I have tried:
-turning it on with the power button; holding it down for an extended period and releasing
-taking out the battery
-plugging it in to my computer (which didn't recognize anything being plugged in)
-plugging it in to a different outlet with a different cable (phone came with two)
I've let it sit plugged in for three hours now and retried all of these things and still nothing... it's dead!
I'm not sure where to go from here? I guess I should have my husband call Dell.
Has anyone had any trouble with the sporadic charging?
Are there any solutions I've missed to get my phone to turn on?
You say you've let it sit for a while, was that plugged into a power source? Try that, it sounds like your battery has gone completely flat and probably needs to sit on a power source. Failing that definitely call Dell and get a replacement battery and charger and see if that fixes it, sounds like one of those items is your problem.

Yes, it has been (and still is) plugged in that whole time. I edited my post
Yeah, something is wonky, I just cannot pinpoint it. My husband's will sometimes not charge, too. But, much less often than mine does.
charging issues
In the last 2 days my VP freezes while charging overnight. Restarts when I take out and replace battery. It will also freeze when I try to use any app while charging. I tried to use Dell chat to resolve issue but got bounced around. I even had an agent tell me my service tag wasnt valid. I'll try to call 800# when I have a free hour or so (I'm sure the call will take that long). The first two levels of support at Dell seem to have no clue regarding the VP it's very frustrating. P.S. what happens with all the apps I've purchased if they need to replace my phone?

Have you swapped batteries with your other DVP? Maybe replacement is the only option, hit up @dellcares on twitter, they have helped me in the past and bypass the whole waiting on hold nonsense with dell mobility.
@tbvnz: all your purchased appls will be reinstalled automatically if you installed them via the Zune software on your pc. The ones installed via the phone can be reinstalled from the MP on the phone, just hit the Buy button again and it will tell you its already been purchased and allow you to download it again.
Update:
I snagged my husband's battery and put it in my phone. My phone immediately came on and is now functioning. My computer recognizes it as being plugged in and it's charging.
And, my battery in my husband's phone works fine. It is fully charged and his phone is having no issues.
Certainly this is annoying (and did in fact happen to my husband a few weeks ago where his phone wouldn't respond until MY battery was put in his phone, but we chocked that up to the battery being dead {which it was}.) but at least my husband and I both have DVPs and can interchange batteries... I wonder what someone who didn't have that option would do.
Certainly confusing that removing and replacing my existing battery wouldn't turn the phone on, but my husband's would - even though both batteries are at full charge.
Thanks for the help! I'm not sure if I should contact Dell about it or not. Clearly it's subpar performance, but I've not been completely impressed by this phone in the nearly two months that we've had them, anyway.
Good to hear you are up and running. You could keep an eye on the situation and contact Dell for a replacement battery if it occurs again.
Thanks. Yep, I'll contact them the next time it happens. Anyone else had this problem??

My brother and I have experienced the same behavior on both of our phones. Most recent was his this past week, exactly as you described. It would not turn on via the power button, so I swapped his battery with mine and his booted right up. When I tried his battery in my phone it showed a full charge. That has happened to me one or two times, randomly.

I've seen that behavior in my DVP (picked it up two weekends ago) and I can tell you how to work around it.
What seems to be happening is some kind of bug when you have it connected and charging and try to turn on/off the phone. If you notice, when it seems unresponsive, the hardware keyboard will probably still light up. This is because it's actually on but the screen just doesn't get any output/input.
What I did was this:
1. Disconnect your phone from the charger.
2. Slide the hardware keyboard down so you can see whether it is lit up (on) or not.
3. Hold down the power button until the exact moment you see the keyboard go dark (off). You have to be quick because it will try to turn right back on a few milliseconds later if you still have the power button depressed, leaving it still non-responsive.
4. Wait a few seconds, and press the power button as normal to turn it on. This time you should see the Dell logo, etc. and everything will be fine.
I've gotten into the habit of either leaving it on or turning it off before I connect it to my charger (it's my alarm clock so it's on almost all the time).
Hope that helps.
my DVP won't turn on either...
Hi - i'm glad i found this post because i've had my DVP for 3 days now and its frozen about 5 times and this morning wouldn't turn on or seem to take a charge. it was fully charged when i put it down last night and this morning there was nothing.
i've stuck it into a wall outlet for now and i guess i'll just wait for it. don't know what else to do. don't know anyone else around with the same phone, so that battery swap isn't an option. pretty funny that you realized to do that and that it worked.
anyway, i feel better now that i've complained about it. thanks.
Did you try pulling the battery and then booting it up? If that doesn't work, after a pull just leave the battery in the phone and let it charge. After 20 minutes you should see it power on.
So it's continued to happen with my phone whenever I have it plugged in to the wall with the brick that came with the phone. Annoying! Basically I cannot have it plugged in next to my bed; it can only charge on my computer. So much for using it as an alarm!
I will try the power down and reboot with the keyboard out. I know what you speak of with the flashing keyboard. I hadn't tried to see if mine is flashing while the phone is 'dead'.

Nexus 6P bricked while charging

Unlike my Sammy Tab S, which I use xda to help root and run custom roms and the like.. I have been pure Nexus 6P with Google fi from the start.
So when I had a battery drain issue.. both in cold weather and in heat.. but many months apart, and saw others worried about it, I got a replacement from Google. I do pay the $5 insurance each month in my Google fi plan.
But now this was different. I had recently sent and received texts with my phone by my side on a charging stand. And I hear a sound like a notification sound.. not sure what it was exactly, but I pick up my phone to check it and it is black. I try to swipe.. nothing. I touch the power button.. nothing.
Now I am worried.
I take the case off. Jam my thumb down on that power button until I think I might bleed.. nothing.
I quickly look up the power-reset sequence.. power+voldown... hold it nothing. Try every conceivable combination.. holding for 20 seconds.. nothing.
Normally I might come here looking for help. But I am afraid this is beyond help. Google is sending a replacement.. after I did the try this - try that dance with them. Finding my original USB-C cable for example.
Man.. I don't know if this is a common problem.. or will become one because of some recent update. But I am set to re-setup my phone.. AGAIN... with a new replacement. And I am wondering what my options are going forward.. Google fi means some kind of compatible device.. so.. what.. get a Pixel? Leave fi and get a new Samsung somethingorother? I hate their interface.. love the camera.
So.. this thread is juts a "me too" for some future 6P owner this happens to.
[UPDATE] the thing came back to life!
I swear I tried different USB cables and different ports.. a PC, 2 different USB chargers.. and I got nothing.
Just now, an hour or more later, I tried the cable and charger it was using when it "bricked" and I saw a small red light in the top left corner for a second.. and the dang phone began charging. It showed 3% battery.
So, maybe, what happened was I did not have the cable plugged in correctly.. or maybe it had another mysterious fast drain. The power graph for those is quite ugly.. from 60% or more to nothing! That's why I sent the first one back.
In any case, I am going to now see if this will charge up and be "normal" for me again. I have cancelled the replacement phone order. .. who wants to reinstall all their apps and such if they can avoid it?
I am still very curious as to how nothing I did had any affect... but now it just works. There's something funny going on here. Its not like I was taxing my phone and it got hot or anything.. it was cool to the touch when I got it out of the case. Something is not right about these phones.

Hey... If your device shut down with 60% left you might be victim of the same problem Q's other users I this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/nexus-6p-randomly-shutting-50-youre-t3522911
Unfortunately, it's a common issue with no real solution except a warranty or battery replacement...
Good luck...
I had the same problem, it solved itself in a couple of hours, I was to send it to assistance but it booted up randomly trying after 2-3 hours of rest

Phone just died in my hands after removing the charger.

Hello guys,
This just happened.
I left my phone charging, and when it hit 100%, I disconnected it from the charger and then I was going to put it in airplane mode, so I could go to bed. When I pushed the status bar down, the phone froze, 5 seconds later the screen went black and it wont turn on now.
When I plug the phone on my PC, there's a sound notification from windows, just like when you plug whatever USB device, but the phone is absolutely dead.
Holding the power button doesn't help. It just got out from warranty last month.... Full stock phone.
Does anyone know how to fix this?
50/50 chance a new battery might fix your problem. But if your not gonna do it yourself might be time to throw in the towel.
Similar event happened with me, phone died abruptly service center people told me that pcb has died and needs to be replaced, will cost more than 300$ for a new pcb. This phone has got really poor quality hardware component can die any time. Never gonna buy huawei built phone in future

I haven't had any problems with the battery whatsoever, it was fine since day one, a little but totally normal wear. The phone charged fine everytime also.
I stopped by in a service shop, they don't mess with nexus devices and they don't know anyone who does (Nexus never came to my country, so it's a rare device to see, iPhones, Galaxies and Moto G are kings here)..
Anyway, I tried everything I could. Hair dryer, downloading build with QFIL, holding the power and volume for more than 20 minutes, leaving the charger on for 24h and everything else I found online and the phone didn't even tried to recover, so I pulled the trigger on a OnePlus 5T. I hope this one lasts me for 5 years, like I was planning with the N6P.
