Why does my nexus player only run at 50Hz? Every review i've read states it runs at [email protected] yet when I press info on my TV it states [email protected] and i can definitely notice this. This is noticeable in Netflix and Kodi and makes the motion a bit jumpy and not smooth when panning etc.
Is there anything I can do about this? I thought 60Hz would be default!
Anyone? Do i have a faulty device? I can only get 50hz out of it? It starts at 60 when the Google logo comes up then switches to 50 when the gui kicks in.
Even my chromecast outputs at 60hz
Sorry to be a pain and bump this again but I'm tearing my hair out on this one and need some advice. I tested my nexus player out on 2 different TV's (an LCD and an LG plasma) and it runs in 60Hz on both tellys! I can't understand this, i've looked through the settings on my TV and IFC is off and any other options i can find that may seem relevant don't seem to do anything, the nexus player starts up as 60Hz when the google logo shows up then just switches to 50Hz. What's also equally as puzzling as my mate brought his amazon fire TV box round and this runs 60Hz straight from the box. Also my chromecast, my 360 and my PS3 all run natively at 60hz. Can anyone suggest any settings I can change on my Panasonic V20 Plasma TV or anything else I can do? :crying:
hey, I happen to have the same issue and it is also driving me mad. Even the chromecast performs better when outputting 60hz at this rate and my original intention was to replace it with my nexus player! Did you manage to come to a solution by any chance?
Have you tried out this app to see if it can solve your problem?

Hey thanks for replying. I've actually tried that app already but it didn't seem to help. Although the app did switch the output to 60hz, it still jutters particularly in panning scenes.

Yup, I tried that app and mine was exactly the same mate. I gave up in the end, i sold it, i was tearing my hair out, went back to using my chromecast. Such a shame cos i loved the nexus player
I wonder if the razer forged or the nvidia shield TV will have the same issue ?
BTW what TV do you have?
Same problem 50hz
Using a panasonic tv eta5
Sharp LC-50LB370U, runs 1080p @ 60Hz. Sounds like either your TVs are not working properly at 60Hz or maybe you have a bum cable.

Yeah, such a shame.. I love mine too despite this problem.
I have a Sharp LC60LE960X.
Tempted to get a Nvidia Shield TV but I have no guarantee that will work perfectly either.

So I'm waiting for my hdmi cable to come from monoprice, and I'm getting kind of anxious. I was just curious if anybody converted 720p videos and played them on a large hdtv, and how it worked out. Was there smooth playback, was there an audio delay, is the quality what you expected? Also, how are games displayed? I saw a video of someone playing angry birds on the Evo but the frame rate was pretty bad.
I got my HDMI cable yesterday. I haven't tried converting any videos and playing them on my 46 inch HD TV, but I did stream a TWiT TV video on the Xoom and mirrored it on the TV. It looked really good. The sound synced up fine, but it carries the audio on the HDMI so I had to turn up the volume on my TV to hear it. I think I'll either have to route the audio out on my TV to my stereo or I'll have to send the headphone jack of the Xoom to my stereo.
Since the Xoom screen has a vertical resolution of 800 pixels and the HDMI out is running at 720, some of the top and bottom of the screen gets cut off. If you are playing a 720 video that shouldn't be an issue though.
I'll try playing Angry Birds on it and see how the frame rate looks. I didn't notice any degredation in the frame rate though while I was playing around with it yesterday.
After playing with it for an hour or so I was pretty happy with the way it looked. I'm waiting for Flash so I can see how Netflix mirrored to my TV looks. Now you've got me wondering though. I'm going to RIP a DVD and see how it looks mirrored to my TV from the Xoom.

Netflix doesn't use flash though so it won't do you any good unless you're using an app like Playon.
I used it last night. (no 720p source)
Mainly on the Youtube app and got some issues.
Now the cable I got was 15' from amazon, but who knows how good it is.
I'm connecting it to a 27" PC monitor that has been wonky with my cable box (I think its the cable box's issue)
But that said, it restarted my Xoom 3 times. Videos would play fine and then freeze, with the tap to restart message. Audio would be out of sync for awhile, and then catch up, or freeze. Im thinking it might be the app though, I don't have any other media on it to play though. When it was working, the quality was great (other than the HQ youtube) menus looked sharp, sound was perfect.
Ill try and move some 720p Community episodes over tonight and see how they look.
+1 for community.
Hopefully it is just the youtube app, it seems a lot of people either hit or miss with that. I don't know, since day one, I have had what I would consider a relatively low amount of force closes (maybe 1-2 per day) with random stuff here or there, but some people talk about it like they can't use it at all. The 1-2 is with several hours of various usage per day, and the force close is usually when trying to open an app, not even when I'm doing anything important. I never had any wiggling on the upper half of the Palm Pre from a release day launch, never had any issues with the Evo Maybe I'm just lucky.
I bet my Xoom explodes tonight.
converting a 720p movie on my xoom tonight and trying it out..
also youtube has massive problems to begin with soo, naturally the mirroring was horrible

I have Despicable Me, 720p version, on my Xoom, plugged it in with the Micro HDMI to My 50" Samsung - looked great I thought. Mouthing I slightly off, but thats how it is on my Xoom to so no changes with that. I also played Mario Cart with the N64 App and the Wiimote hooked up. Worked great!
I have Avatar, Startrek & Transformers 2 on my device played them all via HDMI using the Rock Player app and it was perfect sound was in sync and no lag.
Played Nes & Snes and both were great too. Web browsing was also very solid.
Only one issue and that was the YouTube app. Its an app issue not tablet or HDMI... that app is unstable at best usually anyways and Google needs to update it.

I have the same problem with the YouTube app when on wifi and no hdmi. I have not tried too much on wireless since I don't want to burn through my cap but the few I tried worked better. Regardless I am inclined to say it is the app and not the HDMI out.

Some additional info here too: http://blog.gsmarena.com/watch-sams...o-hdtv-through-its-mhl-port-video/#more-13930
Turns out its a sucess in my opinion. The only thing is that the cable is not included.
I want to know if u guys are getting one and on which website/prices.
Definitely getting one but most sites like Expansys, Clove etc say early June for getting stock.
Is the output signal upscaled?

I thought the Lady Gaga video at the beginning was 1080p...
It was, or at least its file name indicated that (they should have brought up the media details while it was playing to show that).
I was quite tickled to have beaten them to demo'ing USB OTG!
(I wonder if they are the one person to dislike my video so far?!)
Shame it only works when the power is connected
Kinda removes alot of the wow factor when you have to plug in all the cables to make it work.
We need a power cable ?
So stupid, is it confirmed ? No way to use MHL without power ?

I htink you can if the TV supports that, otherwise you need to power the sucker up.
I think video output is limited to 800x480 regardless of video source because it's display mirroring, it does not switch off the lcd when playing video. That's my opinion.

You only need the power cable if you want to charge the phone while it's connected. The HDMI output will work regardless.

Are you sure about this?
Would be very bad..
If it was so, we can't experience full HD movies?! or it just rearranges screen after playback the movie?
Would like to know that..
According to the article, the display won't work without being plugged in:
It took us a few minute to get the thing going – it turns out, the adapter won’t work unless you connect a charger too. After that, the content on the screen is automatically mirrored on the HDTV.

I'm completely confused!
Are we saying that if you want to connect the phone to a tv in order to play a video, you MUST have either (a) an MHL-capable tv or (b) the charger also plugged in?
If so, that's completely ridiculous. Who the hell wants to carry their charger all the time?
If only someone could confirm this. Except none of us have the damn cable!
I'm seriously reconsidering this phone. What with the complaints about the audio, the complaints about the GPS, and now this.

In the MHL consortium video from MWC it shows the display on the phone turning off on video playback (with onscreen media controls showing). For video I am quite sure its output is 1080p (Samsung have an official walkthrough video on youtube today which specifically states this also).
Yeah, I think It's 1080p too. What tv does even support 800x480 resolution? Ofcourse its upscaled somehow. And what idea would it be to support playing full hd if you can't see that its hd?
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
Personally I'd rather have the option for both, but having to require the charger being plugged in seems to be the lesser of two evils. At least this way you can have the phone continually on if you're using it for extended periods of time on a large screen.

Tv out plus Sky Go
This works perfect i use it to watch sky go on my tv my parents have sky tv so i put sky go on my phone and plug it in and away i go. No subs for me lol its just a pain when people try to ring or i get a text.
This is really annoying. You can play a video using HDMI out to a TV and it plays full screen, as long as it is from Google movies. However if you try and play a video of your own it isn't full screen. It is missing about 3cm each side. I can't work out why or how to change it as it has the ability to. Any ideas?
Thanks

Does it downscale the image to 1080p when you are in the UI? If not it might be that whatever app you are using is not yet set up for the N10.

Yeah it cuts the side bits off. Only time you get full screen is via Google movie store

Yup. Huge bars on the side and can't get rid of the bottom bar like the tf700 can. I hope this is fixed. However, I messed with my bravia TV a little it is much better now. I'll post pics.

I'd also like to know.
I get sound, but both the sound and video stutter in Google play movies. Tried ice age and planet earth, both stuttered badly. Hoping this is just one of those things that will be fixed in an update.
I have had my Nexus 10 for about a week now and really like it. This YouTube issue is something that needs to be addressed. Ice Age plays full screen perfect 1080p smooth as silk. YouTube plays at lower quality in a black frame. It also plays on the tablet screen when plugged into HDMI to TV. Make the YouTube app perform like the Google Play app please
Any news on that?
I find that the youtube app won't go full screen when HDMI is plugged in, any solution?
I'm reading everywhere that ppl say it's not outputting fullscreen.
At the chance of being simply wrong: did you ever take into account that the usual TV with its 1080p resolution (1920x1080) has a 16:9 screen ratio but the tablet with its 2560x1600 resolution clearly has a 16:10 screen reatio.
So it simply does not match. If just mirroring what is seen on the tablet... it will always have those black bars on the TV screen.
Or am I just not understanding what everyone barks about?
The transformer it's also 16:10. It removes the bars and (no need for them on the TV) and voila. It also blanks the screen when watching videos. That's one area where the tramsformer is a lot better, but it's a simple fix. You know, I'm not picky but it really annoys ke that such a simple thing to fix has not been addressed. How can you test the HDMI and not notice that and at least give some basic options. That type of thing is inexcusable. Watch them never give us any options.

Movies
Is there anyone on 4.2.1 who can actually play Google play movies with hdmi out onto their TV?
Mine just stops at the "HDMI Screen" when I try to play the free ice age with a progress spinner in the middle, and other logs in logcat either that might explain the issue ( no logs at all). It's connected to my Samsung D8000 which is definitely HDCP compliant. I've never had it working. The film will play fine though when HDMI is not plugged in. It's really annoying cause I refuse to buy or rent films if I can't hook up to my TV.

I have no problem watching movies or TV shows with the Google Play Movies app, connected to a 46" Sharp TV. Audio & video are fine. There is the occasional stutter, but nothing too bad. I've only played shows off battery - I haven't tried it while charging yet, though I can't believe that would make a difference.

Just tried again on my TV and on my computer monitors, all are fully HDCP compliant. It's either the tablet or the cable cause it doesn't work with any of those screens, just stops at spinner on HDMI Screen every time.
Unfortunately I don't have another device or another cable to rule out which is not the cause.

hi folks,
i've seen on the forum here that the new mhl 2.0 adapter outputs video at 60fps. can this be changed or is it fixed? i output mkv HD movies hdmi from my laptop and need to set it to output 24p to get smooth playback on my TV. if i set it to 60 the playback is not as smooth. so can these new adapters do 24p? or maybe at the default 60fps movie playback is smooth anyway?
thanks!
60>24 so 60 fps is smoother. 24p is the original frame used for films,if you need the original/untouched effect you need 24fps. Otherwise the 60 is smoother. Btw, your TV knows 24 p?

I set my laptop to output 24p which is actually 23.976. most mkv movie files are 23.976 fps. My lg tv recognises this and plays it back flawlessly. I'm looking for a solution for the s4 that works as well as the laptop. So hoping that the mhl adaptor will allow me to set the output to 24p (23.976) as well. Anybody got any experience with this yet?
judder
well i finally got the samsung mhl 2.0 adapter today. unfortunately it was as i feared. 24p and 25p playback is juddery. its not terrible but its there. the s4 is sending 24p movies out at 60hz leading to frame rate mismatch. you'll notice this most on panning shots and such-like. does anyone know of a way to get the s4 to output 24p with this adapter? the tv tells me its receiving 1080p 60 from the s4 no matter what.

This is the only comment I can find in this subject anywhere. I have the exact same problem. My s4 is trying to play a 24fps movie on an mhl lead with a 60 output and it judders badly on panning scenes. I find it amazing that no one has even commented properly on this let alone suggest any solution. Does every single smartphone user simply not really care about the judder?

This isn't a solution more of a realisation that I think the problem is with the s4 not the mhl lead. If you play the video on the phone and look a little closer at it you see the same motion judder. On a large tv this judder is magnified and is more noticeable. But the judder playing HD or mkv files is something that is there in the s4 itself. It seems there's virtually no one that's bothered by it so a fix is highly unlikely.
The stock youtube app displays no items only a empty menu, so I have to download the latest ome from google play. My mojo is rooted.
However, the maximum quality of any video is only 720p, even if my mojo is set to 4k output to a 4k tv. Some of the videos I knew for a fact were 4k since I watched them on my shield tv.
I then thought this was the fault of stock rom, so I went all the way to flash the remix os 2 rom as well. But I could still only got 720p.
What is wrong with my unit? I thought madcatz mentioned 4k youtube.

I followed your suggestion and tried a few others browsers. However, it seems only Firefox and Chrome will get 1080p and 2160p from youtube's desktop sites - Firefox is very slow for 4k while chrome is giving me black screen no matter what resolution was chose.
For the other browsers, including Boat, the highest resolution is only 720 in desktop site.
At this stage, and after trying to play a 4K clip locally, I gave up. 4k on the mojo simply is not practical. I go back to my shield TV and the mojo will go the to TV in the basement.
720p is probably a pre-set from google itself. 1080p on mobile wouldn't even make sense for most users. google still allows to go to Desktop versions of its websites to stream better qualities.
Playing 4k on browser can be more difficult than localy in general. specially when playing anything else than AVC.
Mojo is VERY WELL capable of 4k locally. Im watching such contend nearly every time i start this little beast.
But it depends on the file itself. MP4 3840x2160 with AVC is a piece of cake, even beyond UHD its capable.
VP9 4k will not run fine at all. 1080p is fine but higher is tough.
Even HEVC at 1080p and a bit above is possible with Mojo.
Im using KODI btw.
The issue i have with Kodi and YT is a bit different. Sometimes the Plug-in, by that KODI itslef, stops and freezes the System. Same problem since day one on Mojo.
Conveniently, I've found a solution for you guys while solving a problem of my own with the YouTube app. That problem being the fact that I hate using my mouse to navigate. So upon finding out that there is a "lean back friendly" (ie: you can use the arrow keys to navigate) version of the YouTube app specific to Android TV, I installed it, it's much nicer to use than the mobile YouTube app for starters. And lastly but most importantly to you guys: you can enable 1080p.
You won't find it on the Play Store, at least I wasn't able to. I went to APK Mirror and got the latest version which I believe was from Dec 2015. I hope this helps everyone interested.
