Poll: Do you have a scratched display? - Galaxy S6 Edge General

Who has experienced scratches on their new S6 Edge? I know this has been discussed on various threads, but no one has seemed to have actually gathered statistics about how widespread this might be/is.
EDIT: This probably might belong in the Q&A section and not here, if it does a mod can feel free to move it!

Here's a poll on Google Plus

Forum poll would be preferred. I don't have a google+ account, and would be easier to just keep everything on here.
Edit: Nevermind see it

Forum poll already exists im this thread. Look at first post - use web view (not working in Tapatalk)

It looks like a third of owners from TMO have a scratched screen. This is a big deal. People may want to wait and buy one at the store to make sure it is scratched free.

Definitely. Hopefully though when orders from AT&T/Verizon/Spring/others start coming in we'll be able to get a bigger picture of this whole situation. Maybe it's just a T-Mobile thing... wishful thinking?

Lol

Can any non-TMobile users chime in here? I know all the other major carriers are starting to or have already shipped units out.

i would say this is likely to be skewed results, the people with scratches screens, at least on google+, are prolly more likely to respond to this than ppl without scratched screens. Either way though, 30% on that poll saying scratched screens is a tad disconcerting..

I'd beg to argue the complete opposite - this poll is posted in the general forum, so any S6 Edge owner will come across it. Compared to the g+ poll, where you'd have to search pretty heavily to find it (at least in my case) which would generally imply you have that issue yourself - I don't spend my free time searching the internet for problems with the Flex 2 or Moto x Hopefully when more and more people get their devices we can start to paint a bigger picture about this whole situation.

The poll is critically flawed however.
It presumes those voting actually have an S6 Edge.
The fact anyone can tick yes or no without validating they actually have an S6 Edge makes any result scientifically untenable.
Anything so open to abuse without validation of proof will never be capable of truly being representative, or accurate. In a court of law, your evidence would be inadmissible.
Additionally it assumes that equal amount of people who get good and bad devices would be looking at a thread for pre-scratched screens when history as proved that those people with issues are far more likely to search and find threads than those which do not have issues with their device. It's called the distortion field of truth.
So as interesting as poll results like this are - they sadly will never ever be really indicative of a whole.

You may be right but I find it interesting it has been a steady 70 to 30 ratio since the first 10 votes. I did not expect such a steady result.

I never said these polls are completely accurate and I completely agree with what you're saying. But since there's no easy way to ensure people who are voting actually have the device, I feel like it's better to have some poll going than have nothing at all, because I highly doubt Samsung will have users "take a survey".
And maybe it's just me, but I still seem to have just *a little* faith in humanity - I like to think that people aren't being complete a-holes and ruining the polls just for fun -_-

Sadly one more for the yes choice.
Make sure you guys look at the screen under sunlight. I thought mine was perfectly fine in-store.

My phone, as well as my father's phone, both SM-G925i 64gb one black and one white, purchased in New Zealand, are fine and have no scratches on the screen out of the box.

I cast my eye on the first page of the "general" forum. Approximately 40% are dreary, negative topics that this is an indirect response to. As for nexus loving posts....they are well buried.

Do you not think that's a little insulting to customers who have jsut forked out £429 for a phone that does not make calls properly?
Please refrain from being an idiot, unfounded moans are exactly that, but do not dumb down perfectly rightful and sane concerns regarding trading standards of BIG companies!

I have never had a single issue with my nexus, except self inflicted custom rom problems, and if I did have a major problem I would take it up with my phone supplier and not bore the pants off you lot on here with it. I merely make the point that there is a large amount of posts that in one way or another, ooze negativity and this is my counterbalance, because if a curious non nexus owner read these forums they would get the impression that Nexus S is a flawed and dodgy device. The XDA powers that be should consider opening another section for Nexus S "General complaints and moans". I think it would be the most popular forum and I could avoid it.

Overall great thread. My wife and I both love our nexus s'. I owned an epic for months and that was a horrible device. Ay least with the nexus s Google is working on fixing the problems. People just need to either sell the phone their unhappy with or shut the hell up. Last i checked this wasn't xda-whingers.com it was xda-developers.com

Then why don't they just return the phone, get their money back, and buy something they are happy with?
Instead they seem to use the ownership of a "defective" item as a license to ***** and moan like it's December 21st, 2012.
-Make a purchase we're not happy with: we all do that.
-Return it, or sell it on eBay: signs of intelligence.
-Keep it, and complain bitterly about it: now that's just stupid.

I have been feeling the same way lately. Every other thread is "waah my phone won't do this" or "Rawr I'm so angry that my phone does that". Its silly. If you're not happy about something chatting on the internet won't fix that. Either just shut the hell up about the issues your having because they will get fixed or sell it and get the hell out of here.
In answer to the above, is that i hope and pray that google sort the issues out and i get to keep this lovely device?
And i apologise to the guy above (willcpfc), not for sure saying "you were an idiot" ...more trying to stop you going down a path where you don't consider perfectly rightful concers as warranted.
I will take this back, if they do not sort it within the 30 day no quibble thing. If they iron out the bugs i have then i can keep this sweet lil number ...i do want this thing or i would not have walked into carphone warehouse and spend £429 right?
Was just trying to say, be carfeul calling complainers unfounded, especially when they have warranted concerns
much <3 to all
is it really that hard to consider the fustrations of people who want this thing, but cannto makes calls on it without fault? surely not right?

My point is that if you really want you bugs fixed, this is not the place. Google doesn't troll XDA for bugs it needs to work out, it has its own system in place that actually is pretty nice. All of the bugs I've heard of are on Google's bug reporting forum and if you have the issue go star it and comment. That's how you get the problem fixed not just constantly whinging on a developers forum.
Jamiemac1977, I admit it was wrong of me to launch an oblique attack on posters who I am sure have legitimate grievances. It is not my place to criticize. I just want a bit of happy shiny nexus owners to celebrate

First time i've had an issue with a device and wanted to keep it, so that says something eh ...looking forward to a happy phone
holy smokes! that's like close to 2Ghz
it'll be nice if it didn't consume so much battery power and be able to maintain those higher clock rates
That's better. Some good, positive responses. we have some great and dedicated devs. We have the latest android. Its a good looking machine. I am sure it will grow and flourish like a flower in summer. We will see great things and be able to complete with dual core competition. Its a Google, its magnificent and we are privileged to possess one. And oneday I may even find a use for the "tag" feature!

ASUS complaint forums

Rather than continuously spamming our forums with all of your complaints I created this thread for you guys. Should you feel the need to *****, cry, moan, nag, nitpick or anything else similar please post here.
It's better to have one unproductive thread with a bunch of unproductive posts rather than a flood of "I'm returning my tf and feel the need to tell you guys because I have no friends in real life" threads.
While we're at it, we might as well make this a sticky.

Haha. The smooching never would have started if it wasn't for all the complaining...
I've had my tf for about a month now and whether it's luck or just the norm, I haven't had any issues thus far.
Some may arise in the future but as of right now I am happy. But that's besides the point.
The issue here is that people are abusing xda. If you have issues with your deivce that aren't related to "hacking" then this is not the place to cry about. Either contact Asus support or deal with it. Xda has the greatest devs in the world, unfortunately not even they can help people who are incompetent.

Don't like it take it back.
Asus might monitor the forums but not much they can do about you returning a retail product.
Wanna call them instead or send it to them? Go for it.
If you have a bad problem call them. File a class action suit ...I don't know...but I do know they are about the only ones that can really do anything about it....or not.

Is this a bad joke? Those threads have been around way before any smooching started, I guarantee it. To think that smooching threads started as a counter to disapproval threads is laughable. The two are a constant on any forum for a device and nothing you say can argue otherwise.

Wrong, this is so patently absurd I can't even accept it at face value. Maybe you took a wrong turn, for the rest of us we went to the section that is clearly labeled:

Disapproval threads as well as smooching threads fall within this category. It's general discussion, not hacking. I can understand your argument if these threads were in the Development forum that's not the case though. If someone can't keep their rabid fanboy retaliation instincts out of it that's their problem. There are those who want to make threads and talk about how much they love their TF and there are those who want to make threads and talk about the problems they have with it.

You are correct about this being the general forum, I understand were you are coming from on that...
But you contradict yourself when you say that smooching is the same as complaining because you make it seem like smooching is more prevailent when it clearly is not. You can lookvat the first 5 pages of the general tf forum and the ratio of complaints to smooching is like 5 to 1. Once again, the complaints themselves aren't what people are having problems with, it's the flood of them and the continued spamming of the same damn threads. I have been on this forum since before the tf came out and smooching has never been an issue because those threads are few and in all reality are more of "reviews" than complaints or praises...
If you're trying to justify all of these stupid ass threads then you are ridiculous. Not much more to it than that.

That's not the definition of contradiction.
The two are the same. Quantity is a different issue entirely and in this case why don't you stop and think about why there is such a large difference in that 5 to 1 ratio of yours. It's not because the ones who have a problem with it are drinking a different kool-aid than the ones who love the TF.
That "large difference" speaks volumes about the disapproval rate of the overall community. Asus needs to see that, informed customers need to see that. Any attempt at cutting that out is a biased, artificial attempt at engineering a facade not unlike North Korea. Asus and informed customers need to see that their TF can fall apart and what happens when it does and why people leave and how many leave.

and yet you seem to feel the need to comment. i take back my earlier comparison. xda is obviously just as full of fanboys as archosfans.
btw i love my tf, have very little problem, but its not perfect and obviously asus has some qc issues. nothing compared to archos, but still unarguable.
i find threads detailing issues and comparisons very useful and tend to have more objective information than the "share your love" topics with the "ooohhhh its so fast" commennts. issue threads and devicce comparison reviews are a buyers tools.
"if you dont like your tf take it back".... agreed, also feel free to share your experience.

Take a step back from the internet and get yourself a breather buddy. Try talking to some people in real life and interacting with others that you can physically see. The road your headed on can't be too healthy.

i dont think anyone is debating that there are issues with the TF. What i think is important is that if you google 'xoom dust under screen' or 'ipad 2 dust under screen' or 'samsung tab 10.1 dust under screen' ... or the same with light bleed ..... you will find that every manufacturer has similar issues. i dont think its unique to the TF.

Thank Goodness For Polls

Polls here show that the vast majority of owners do not find the Note faulty. However, there are threads here which seem in denial of these polls and are still claiming that the Note is faulty. Thank goodness for the polls so that we know that these faulty claims are not supported by the vast majority of owners.

So you really had to make a new thread for this?
"So what you are saying that those who had issues with the notes and had it replaced are making it up ?"
Of course not. All I am saying is that the evidence from polls here does not support the claims that all Notes are faulty.

Yes, because when there are threads claiming that all Notes are faulty then it is only fair to the Note to point out that polls here suggest otherwise.
Can you link us to the claims that all the notes are faulty, im wondering my self.
I dont see how that poll can change the fact that i got 3 notes in the row, all with 2+ dead pixels
10% faulty rate from that poll is not high?
Plus, how accurate do you think a simple poll can show? I mean, instead of voting 3 times for my 3 faulty phones...i can only vote once!!
My believe is...if you are lucky enoug to get a perfect phone...please be kinder to us unlucky ones who REALLY had a stressful times with this problem, and stop starting new threads like this to try and make us feel worse. Please try and put yourselves in our shoes

There are many ways of claiming something is faulty without saying it explicitly such as thread titles like "WI-FI Issues", "Screen Issues" etc which are easily spotted.

With all my 3 phones, i have posted pictures on this forum and also sent them to handtec...
So...im not too sure how more specific you want? Maybe send all three of my phones to you to have a look before i send them back to handtec?
Come on...have we all lost the simple human quality of TRUST in this society now?!!
You have a point. People post gripes. Going by that alone, it would discourage anyone. The polls give a better picture.
You also might want to post a "Who has a fault free Note" thread.

I saw a ton of reviews and everyone loved their units. I came to the forum and I saw tons of complaints. I didn't think it was right. I started the poll to see of everyone hated their device.
You guys might be getting all the duds from a single batch from a single seller or single batch directly from Samsung. I feel and see now that most people don't have any issues which is the most logical thing. But this forum only had negative posts.
I think the poll helped me decide to buy the phone. while all the other threads discouraged me from it. That's not normal. So I took the plunge.

Thanks to your poll we know the vast majority of owners are not experiencing the faults suggested by the loads of complaints on this forum. It won't stop loads more complaints but at least owners and prospective buyers now know that the complaints do not represent the experience of the vast majority of owners.
Thread closed
Forums generally attract people who are looking for solutions to problems they are experiencing. That is why you see a higher number of complaints. Arguing with people who have had issues is extremely counterproductive and only leads to contention. Ignore the poster who don't post according to your own desires.

[Q] Temperature Shift Breaks Nexus 4?

Hello,
first of all I'm sorry If you have seen a thread like this before but I want to try and take a different approach.
I wanted to buy this phone but I read countless posts reporting they have hairline scratches without even dropping their phone.
There was even one or two that got them even though their phone was in a case!
Also:
http://www.droid-life.com/2012/11/2...-idea-since-the-last-phone-with-a-glass-back/
It kind of really seems to be an issue...
What I wanted to ask did anyone try to deliberately reproduce this? Or can anyone prove that this really happens?
I mean if the phone breaks with regular use without even dropping it it would be one hell of a dealbreaker...
Any rich guy/reviewer wants to run a few benchmarks/games and put it on a cold surface in a room and see what happens?
And please refrain from comparing to iPhone 4/4s I think people have seen enough droptests it would be really interesting to see if this actually happens or not...
1. why would someone try to reproduce it until it's a demo unit given to them by Google which I guess will be a rarity considering they are on back order
2. it happened to my friend and as of now he is waiting for the replacements back to arrive on fleebay
3. you posted in the wrong section

Wow simple to the point. I like it
it wouldnt be a temperature shift from cold to hot, it would be from getting too hot and expanding when the glass was put in too tightly
I hit my Nexus 4 with a hammer and the screen broke. LG better fix it as this is a defect.

Sorry I don't post very often so I'm not so familiar to the sections, if a moderator reads it please move it.
As to your questions maybe you didn't read my post or are simply uninformed. There were already enough Droptests, there are already people who have a defect phone some of them deemed unreparable. Also a lot of people got a review units. Heck there is even a guy on youtube who buys devices with his own money and breaks them in durability tests. If you question why people would do it don't ask me but I reckon someone who would do a droptest or whack their phone with a sledgehammer might be willing to try this.
Sorry for being so dumb to think people who deliberately destroy a phone would maybe be willing to deliberatly get a hairline crack.
Long story short there are plenty of people who could try it out.
meh nvm why are ppl always so offensive...

drop tests are easy to do, recreating something like this won't be easy at all dude and not sure if someone on xda will risk his device like that as the replacement backs are not yet available anywhere. also there is enough proof already that this happens and has happened to a lot of peoplel. so it happens but no one knows why.

only bad thing about 4.4.2....

increases the screen brightness even at the lowest setting...... when it updated and reset to auto brightness (at the higher level compared to 4.3).. the terrible backlight bleed round the edge of my display was visible... I hadn't noticed it before... this is the only bad thing about 4.4.2 haha..

There's already threads about it,if you had posted there, it would save cluttering up the forum with duplicate posts.
Cause yanno some of us actually don't relish going through posts trying to find the information we need and having to carve through a ton of needless crap to find it.
Maybe next time you fancy making a post, you'd be so good as to see if the thread already exists, and if so, then post on that?

The Euro OTA thread for example has 100s of replies talking about many different iterations of the OTA update. I posted a specific to UK Retail OTA. I would argue that well titled, specific threads is the real answer. This will allow people to search effectively for what they want.
Anyone who has spent a large amount of time using the search facility on forums, knows the 'post' search within threads never works well. However the title search for threads works great.
It is definitely a bigger problem when people waste peoples time 'complaining' about non issues without really thinking them through.
When there are truly pointless or duplicate threads I totally agree and I've been guilty of this myself at times. I found the thread in the Q&A Section but it was talking about a different part of the audio problem so a new thread was valid. However, as I say, rather than arguing for the sake of it, posting p**sy remarks to people, why not try to find solutions for people who post questions?
I love XDA because it's not one of these forums where people scream 'noobs noobs.. use search,.. do you know nothing?' 'if you have to ask that, then xda and modding isn't for you' etc etc etc. Your attitudes is the beginning of a slippery slope toward this, so I hope it doesn't happen.
I hope you take my comments in good humour and 'get' my point.
thanks
Just use a screen filter app to reduce overal brightness by a percentage of your choice
OP, can you explain clearly what you think has changed between 4.3 to 4.4.2 on the moto G with regard to brightness? I am interested, but I do not understand in what mode you think it is brighter. Are you saying that in auto mode you think it is overall brighter? Are you saying that in manual mode when at the most left position on the slider in kitkat it is brighter than it was when at most left position on version 4.3? I cannot detect a difference. How did you measure this...purely on your perception?

In the interest of saving battery, I pretty much always have it on manual, set to minimum. If im in bad lighting or in the car, I set it to auto.
So, I had it set to minimum on manual under 4.3. At this level there was almost no perceivable backlight bleed when the screen was showing a black/dark screen (such as settings menu). I had never noted a problem as such with backlight bleed on this phone really.
I updated to 4.4.2. It was set to Auto brightness when it booted for first time. Back light bleed was striking and clearly a lot worse. I set brightness to manual, minimum. Backlight bleed was still very noticeable at the corners and at one edge of screen.
It's slightly subjective, but I'm in no doubt that 'minimum manual brightness' is not as low under 4.4.2 as it was under 4.3. I 'assume' that auto brightness doesn't go as low either, because:
If you are in a pitch dark room, and you change from minimum manual bright, to auto, the screen gets brighter, not the same or darker under 4.4.2..
I was searching other peoples findings and the link someone posted earlier in this thread shows the same thing more empirically..

I think the issue is that the moto g forums have a lot of LAZY noobs. Being a noob is fine as long as people search before asking questions or making new threads. Everyone starts somewhere.
At the moment the LAZY people really are cluttering up the forums and threads. Look at how many posted just say they did NOT yet have the UK OTA. Complete waste of time and this is what is annoying the people who are trying to answer questions.
Being technically unaware is fine. Just being LAZY is not.
This is not directed at you, just trying to explain why people may be getting a bit annoyed.
Just get Lux. Problem solved.
Sent from my Moto X cellular telephone...
actually in my moto g auto brightness is very low, if i install lux and put in auto modo i can see the the dusplay is brighter, do this happen to anybody else?
---------- Post added at 10:03 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:48 AM ----------
ive also installed a backlid test and at 100% brightness theres no bleed at all, it looks pretty much darker, could be a problem of mine?
My moto g has 2% in minimal bright by Installing Xposed + gravitybox
Yes it's true
