I'm really disappointed with 5.0 lollipop update for my LG, just looks the same as kitkat, hardly any material design.
I like what Samsung as done with their lollipop update tho, would nice to see LG do the same

Yeah LG didn't adopt all the great design features of Lollipop making it a lackluster update appearance-wise. Hopefully the system is smoother with better animations and transitions. I prefer stock android look so will be making it look as close to this as possible once a stock rooted ROM pops up on the forums.

We are having a friendly discussion here please don't try to start a war. LG G3 lollipop doesn't have expandable notifications, white app drawer, redesigned quick settings just to name a few.
Yeah I Couldn't completely agree with you as i have both LG G3 and LG G2, but the UI sucks of both kitkat and lolipop, the system is fairly smooth but the greyish color in system apps suck,so i had to theme them to look like 5.0 apps, and the G2 has got the G3 kitkat version, and i cant point out much difference in terms of UI Of both lolipop and kitkat in G3.

Hm, why do you think LG must implement all of stock android features? To them be undistinguishable from dozens of cheap Chinese smartphones that put stock Android because they lack money to develop own skin and launcher?
Have you heard about a new version of LG UX 4.0 to be released before LG G4 presentation?
I don't think they "have" to this is an opinion based thread. My opinion is that stock android or close to it is the way to go. The OP stated how the update did not fully realize the wealth of material design which in essence is true. Besides the transitions and such visually it looks the same. I have no idea how cheap Chinese smartphones made their way into this conversation. I guess you are calling my tastes cheap, dunno if you even understand what exactly it is you're trying to illustrate.
Hi,
Same as Kingfish907, I am also dissapointed how the LG customized, or rather "customized" it's android L version (mean UI). Simply saying, for me, LG's UI is ugly and seems almost like on my old galaxy ace.
I am disapointed also because just before I used miui v6 on my cheap china phone and you know what? Sometimes I really regret the change... Smoothnes, behaviour, configuration possibilities and look of this chinese system are even non comparable to LG's... But it's only an example. Also cm11 looks IMVVVHO better (and seems to be more flexible) than this LG .
So, it's probably depends on user experience and demands....

I've got the LG with the latest V5 software and also got a Nexus 10 with standard 5.1 on it. There isn't a lot of difference as far as usability is concerned. Both work well and both have very good battery life (the Nexus 10 is better, but then it won't make phone calls).
Alan
Why do you want white background ??? Darker colours make battery last longer ... And to be honest I think overall look of lg is more unified ... I like it a lot ... But do hope to some changes that will make it more complete ...

I came from Samsung and I hate thier touchwiz UI. If you ask me the LG UI is much better. Neither are as good as stock android though.
Sent from my LG-D852 using XDA Free mobile app
I recently used se edge in a shop, and just opening and closing the apps was just so smooth, it worked like the same slide up animation but better, instead of like the whole slide up and down animation of lg, the apps kind of like minimised into thr icon if you know what i mean. Also they had the same dialer as stock lollipop and i hope lg brings those floatong icons in there system apps as those look really nice with nice looking animations.
I don't mind the look of LG's UI. It's just the damn lag. I parted with my Nexus 4 only because it was beginning to show its age and start lagging. I got a nasty shock when I discovered that the G3 was just as laggy if not laggier. I mean, I always heard Lollipop would be the savior and would finally get rid of Android's legendary lags. But it seems to have made no improvements on that front. I'm just sick and tired of waiting for that "next" version that would fix everything.
I just love people and the lag .... My g3 3gb version on android v20H has no lag at all ... I don't really understand what are you all talking about ... We are talking here in milli seconds not in minutes ...
Sent from my LG-D855 using XDA Free mobile app
Mine lags at least 1-2 seconds 50% of the time in responding to loading text messaging, switching between Apps, etc. and its doing my head in. I had a Xperia Z2 which had similar specs but never lagged and I didng have root on that either. I have only had the G3 for about 5 days and already updated to Lollipop but that is not helping either. Any suggestions people?

Pls take your sarcasm elsewhere.
Where I live, the 3GB edition isn't available. Also, I am not talking about animation lags (which is of course present as well). I am talking about not being able to multitask properly or browse multiple sites due to the system killing background apps/tabs too aggressively.

About Chinese I mean that they use stock android, because of lack of developers in those firms. LG can develop it's own custom UI, with it's QSlide and such. If you prefer stock much more than we all here on xda,and have an option to flash any ROM we like, don't we? Choose one there http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development flash it and BOOM you don't see LG's lags

mod edit: i don't like the touch wiz UI
Lol at least give it a chance before making such a claim. Use it when it comes out then we can say if it is shyte... There are other launchers like apex and etc..
ok good point, i like the concepts though like if you are messaging then put to your ear and it calls, but im talking about the pure visual aspect of it, the icons look like they come from a 2001 nokia colour phone
Icons are always customisable though with root access. I always wonder why people complain about a UI or skin when it can always be changed or removed.
Ive never used any of the previous versions of touchwiz for more than a few minutes at a time on friends' phones but have always preferred it over the other mfr UIs ive tried. Its actually one of the things im looking forward to with this.

I always use Go Launcher but will run with TW on the S3 to see how I like
What's wrong with TouchWiz, I would rank it second after TimeScape of Sony (dont like HTC Sense)
And I would give TouchWiz 4.0 the crown
vanilla rocks!
i got a warning for swearing, sorry for swearing
Pure ICS is definitely coming to the S3. Some developers have already said it.

Uh, yes, the Nexus lines ARE the first to get updates... Well, the GSM variants anyway. Don't whine about having a Nexus and not getting updates fast when you're on a stupid CDMA network with their closed source radio driver crap.
Look aosp is cool, but i am that type of human that i will hardly live with only one type of ui for more than two months, first there are themes and than its big jump (like tw->cm9 or cm9->MIUI....)....so i expect i will try to stick with stock as long as possible and than go out and try some modifications

No more carrier delays for me... and I really look forward to PURE AOSP! The closest I ever got to that was with CM 7 resp. CM 9 on my S2 and Nook tablets... and I liked it a lot!
Certainly better than st*pid HTC Sense..!
Can't wait for next week to arrive!!!!!!
why would you use a feature`less software like stock ics? i had galaxy nexus and it was boring ... tw may have bloat but it has nice features ... if you want stock buy google phone if you want sense buy htc ... simple...
plus if you look in the app drawer is ics stock like
It's a matter of preference. look at the stock ICS E-mail, Contacts and messaging apps. a combination of a Beautiful, modern design with the maximum possible functionality. It just looks, feels and works so well, exactly how a modern UI should. Google really hit the ball out of the park with holo.
Now look at the TW ones - they're basically the same FroYo ones used in the previous galaxies - they don't have that stremlined, modern look of stock ICS. They look dated and ancient and do not feel like ICS at all. The messaging app especially. Black background with grey borders and ugly buttons - and yellow and cyan chat bubbles.. seriously samsung?
having said that, TW does have a very, very good launcher - very smooth and very flexible - i have no issues with that. The TW UX launcher is even better in that regard. it's the core apps that piss me off because they look ugly and dated.
Tempted to walk into my local 3 shop and pick one up for £399 looks like a great phone and will have better battery than Nexus 5 which is a big thing for me. My issue is the software, is it that bad out of the box say versus a Nexus 4 running on pure Android? Havent played around with custom ROMs but thinking I might have to with this device.

Im coming from the GNex- which was a pure android experience to the LG G2- and in my opinion the software is fine. I had to apply a theme, which was super easy to get it to look the way I like: but the software doesn't get in my way. the phone is SO customizable that you can make it how you like. I was used to running cm 10.2 on my lg g pro (the g2 is so much better imo) and the software is fine. I just flashed clean rom and a mod to get rid of the at&t logo and phone volume slider and I can't be happier. I also got rid of the soft buttons and use GMD, I almost never touch the back buttons with the knock on and made nova launcher double tap to lock. Pretty freaking awesome.

Came from GNex with AOSP ROM and I think LGs ROM is okay. I was expecting worse, but it's not terrible. There is way too much bloat (Verizon), but I will most definitely be install a custom ROM as soon as AOSP ROMs hit the grid. I do like the knock on feature and some other stuff they baked in though.
I have a few apps out of the box that are draining my battery at idle which I will have to figure out.

It's not that bad at all. Certainly better than Touchwiz. I actually like this LG UI more than any I've used outside of some of the modded AOSP ROMS (CM, AOKP, PA etc.). It has a few quirks, but nothing that I would consider to be a deal breaker.
I ran tw I ran aokp, I ran cm plus a multitude of kangs of all three including miui.
I am 5 days in and not once got bored, glitches, battery drains. Its got all the customazions I need, except dpi and permissions. I am cured flashaholic. That says a lot about the software coming from an avid flasher
I have been a big fan of cm for some time now and love the stock android look. I may very well install a theme to get this look at some point but I see no real reason to flash or even root at this point.
The software is smooth and customizable. It is heavily skinned in a love it or hate it kind of way, but themes make it far less of an issue.
Hope this helps!

My only wish is that I want more multitasking stuff (like TW's mutiwindow just without the bloat )
yeah multitasking is android 8ssue they implemented window support on an app per app and not os wide basis, thats why not all aps are launchable that way
The LG skin/software is awesome. I really like it. Its fast, fluid, and has many features. example: theme keyboard, theme ui keys, nav ring shortcuts, pop up windows for text and phone calls, etc..
With the nexus 5 predicted to have a 2300mAh battery and a worse camera at £399 it's a cracking deal for the LG G2. I work at 3 and am tempted to take up the deal.

The skin is more that adequate for anything you want to do. this isnt 2010 where htc sense and samsungs stuff blew ****. everything is great. whether it is motorola or sony's or whoever, they are all fine....
I hate that stock android is taken to the point of god like. its good. just like sense. or touchwiz. stock isnt better than either of them. they will all do the samething. in fact, often these skins on top have more options and are a fresh breath of air from stock
No I love the software on the g2. I had 2 s4's and both lagged and didn't run as well as I wanted it too. Great processor but software bogged it down. Quick Question
Do you think Samsung would provide a major UI overhaul over 4.4 KitKat update due January?
Maybe reduce on the comic styled blocks and chop it down to more mnmlstic style designs and reduce strain on RAM and other features to improve batt life and reduce heat generated on gaming and other functions.
I really want to downgrade from MJ4 to MJ1 but unfortunately, I don't think it will ever be possible. Thus I am looking for bigger and better thing's in the future to ease my pain of these destructive OTA updates.
No.
Bigger and better things: Cm just released sources.
Goodbye tw
Samsung is and will try to not make any major changes to the UI so users become accustomed to and and aren't thrown off by updates and get used to Samsung products. Its ment for the "average" user and generally no anyone on these fourms.

As a Verizon Galaxy Note 4 owner, I feel it is pretty safe to assume that sometime within the next few months or so we should receive the next evolution of Android OS, Lollipop. Checking out videos of stock 5.0 developer preview, it looks pretty sweet. Nice animations, lock screen notifications, and other various improvements/features.
Seeing how Samsung has skinned just about every inch of their phones with touchwiz, I'm wondering what the community thinks will change with the UI with the upcoming update. Do you think there will be visual updates and additional features, or just purely under-the-hood changes.

Based on this preview, it looks like mainly under the hood stuff as TW still seems to be in full force
Do you mean how much will change from vanilla android lollipop versus Samsung lollipop or do you mean from current Samsung UI versus Samsung lollipop?
Because it does appear to be heavily skinned again, but everyone should have known that already. It also appears quite a bit is changing as far as visuals from current touchwiz.

I agree with what most are saying..... However you are crazy if you think we will have it "in the next few months." I'd be willing to bet you don't have it until late next summer....

MEGA UPDATE: G4 Leaked with lot of software information. Check out here:

First we need the g4 to drop... Then we wait for a port...
Not really impressed.
Well, big plus for all of the new material designed system apps!
They still haven't updated those horrible stock icons
Do you think our LG G3 will inherit the new manual camera capabilities?

Lag and stuttering kill the functionality of UX 3.0. I hope that issuses will be solved in 4.0.
A little something I found while going through the /r/lgg3 subreddit:
https://www.reddit.com/r/LGG3/comments/31yxqw/lg_ux_40_before_the_g4/
Note that it's not confirmed.
Defects on the current UI UX3.0
I really don't care of the new features of the UI 4.0 like the double click of the volume down button for capturing an image even when the screen is locked. There are a few bugs or defects in the current UI, For example, animation flow when you press on an contact icon and the image hovers, it just doesn't seem to be correct, there is a lag. and when you select the call launcher it takes time to load all your contacts and even struggles to swipe between your call logs, the dialpad and the contacts, the other is with the message pop up notification it also lags in the animation. It is just not for the design but also for the animation quality i am waiting for.

Well, Android must read contacts data from ROM flash and populate list, it's the cause of lag. No one Android smartphone in entire world can do this without pause, it's impossible
