According to this article (http://phandroid.com/2010/10/18/exclusive-first-android-gingerbread-details/) there is an early build of Gingebread in the wild. If this is true, I believe a leaked rom won't be long away.
That image could be anything, not a great article.
aww I was hoping for some serious overhaul of the UI but it looks to be essentially froyo. Loving the hardware acceleration bit though.

My toughts exactly. I bet this explains the rumors of Gingerbread not being the tablet optimized 3.0 OS version we were waiting for. It will be a cleaned up version of Froyo with hardware accerlation. Which sure isn't bad but I'm afraid a lot of users will end up being dissappointed.
Of course the picture can be fake but the source seems pretty solid.
Unless they fix some of the big issues in their current "features", they will have a max exodus to WP7
wow nice article the author is just taking wild pot shots to things that will be on gingerbread.

WP7 will be a damn train wreck. The Kin's production was haulted a month end because it sold only a few thousand devices. They should probably just call it what it really is, Windows Mobile 6.6
Enjoy your decade old technology with a mediocre gui slapped on top. It's the Microsoft way.
As for Gingerbread, I hope there are alot of behind-the-scene updates. Gui updates can wait if you're cranking things up under the hood like they did in Froyo.
I think that the article has some truth.
It mentions that the Android Green is going to be much more prominent throughout the OS which I think is correct. The new Market has much more green and in the latest Gmail app, when an email is deleted the undo bar that appears is the same green as the green used in the Market.
All this talk of there being a totally brand new UI (like WP7) is wrong. There is nothing wrong with the look of the homescreens so that it why the blurry image looks pretty similar to Froyo. The UI is going to be refreshed which means the UI is going to be consistent throughout the entire OS and apps created by Google.
From what I have seen, the new UI is going to be similar to the current Gallery app and the Android Green is going to be much more prominent throughout the OS. At I/O, a music app was shown which had the same UI as the Gallery app. The latest Car Home app also has the look of the current Gallery app.

Nothing wrong with this at all. I always wondered after Eclair why Google didn't make more of the OS elements look more like the genie widget or the gallery with the 3Dish grey look. Now if they can get a decent media player and have studios continue to give Android respect and porting good games to our OS I think I'll just keep my eye off that shiny new Dell Venue Pro

Check out that YouTube video, at about a minute into it, you can see the current music app but with a UI similar to the Gallery app.
I just wish they fix the damn stock dialer to dial by name. Dialer One works but is aggravating trying to bounce back and forth.
Honestly the only 2 things I replace right off the bat is the dialer and Launcher Pro. Everything else is stock... and its great.

He's hardly trolling. Google need to change more than just invisible behind-the-scenes stuff, although adding Flash support was a fairly big deal. Android needs better support for large screens, a much better media/music player (Gapless support is way overdue if nothing else).
I'm perfectly happy with my N1 with 2.2, but Android can't stay still, most of the changes since 1.5 have been background things, tweaking and quite incremental. Hopefully 3.0 has something really good in it to justify my waiting for a decent Android tablet.

That's what I'm sayin. We just need a good music player, like the one in the youtube link a few posts above, and more quality apps. I must admit I was pretty excited about WP7, but I'm in the air bc I'd be losing flash for a few months, as well as all the cool *cliche* customizations. If Gingerbread is as good as expected I'm saying.

if that is indeed the new ui, i can't help but feel a bit underwhelmed. i was expecting something a little more than better icons and an enhanced notification bar lol. can't wait to see this release though

Thank you for the support. I am glad not everybody just drinks the koolaid.
I would say the biggest task is to finally fix the really long list of bugs and annoyances in current version android/google apps. THEN they should tackle the GUI.

I am 100% with you on that.
I really like how MS thought outside the box for WP7/Zune.
Just got my lg gpad 8.3 gpe and had a few questions.
1. Is there a way to remove home screen pages Or do I always have to have 5?
2. I am trying to find a remote app but can't find one. I know on my s4 I have watch on. I was wondering if there is remote app I can download so I can use the ir blaster.
I would really appreciate the help. Thanks
I can answer about the home screen. Unfortunately you can't remove any screens, that's the limitation of the stock Android launcher, you can install the GEL launcher or any other launcher for that matter. I hear Apex is a very good replacement.
I would also be interested to find a working remote app, have tried but haven't found anything useful yet. Hopefully someone knows.

Apparently the IR-blaster in the G Pad is different from the likes found in HTC and the Note's.. Sadly, they only work on stock LG rom atm. For Google and LG to partner up and sell a device that will continue to not support it's own hardware seems retarded, I reckon it's a matter of time before LG does something about it..
Home screen pages, as mentioned above, is simply a limited feature of the new AOSP stock launcher, it sucks and it's ridiculous. I can't stand that launcher. There's not ONE customizable thing about it. Jesus.
.. Customizable isn't a word, is it?..

You could try Nova or Apex. Those are pretty heavy on customization.
I'm sorry, but you heard right. Here on my v500 with CM 11 rom I havn't been able to find any IR apps that works yet. :\ Even tried to flash scripts and QRemote and so on. It just doesn't take fully. No pairing with devices at all.

And really confused why google hasnt put an app out for the ir blaster... I mean they advertise it on their tablet but make it impossible to use?
I just got my GPE too. After pulling the update and unlocking the bootloader , I started to set it up with Action Launcher, but ended up with Nova. Nova supports 4.4 's transparent notification bar--I like the look. I also like no icon labels.
I haven't messed with the IR blaster yet.

I really hope someone finds a way to use it. I'm really sad one Cuz its of the reasons why I got the gpad over nexus 7
The main area of the visible user interface (UI) that controls home screens and such - and it looks nice enough. It's not Nexus Android levels of clear, but you do get some fixes for those minor pure Android annoyances.
I know there are some people afraid of flashing 5.0 for now for reasons like losing unlock or root, but I don't need that so I flashed 5.0.
Here is a video I made. Quick look of the 5.0 interface.
UI is very fast and stable. No force closes so far. I think battery life is better but I tested it only for 1 day.
I also wanted to show you Battery Saver which has been through big change (good change IMO), but I couldn't since phone was plugged in.
I accidentally forgot to show you Recents and lockscreen, dont get mad please

The reason that nobody (including me) show anything else than this is because everything remained the same. There is no point in showing you what you already got on 4.4 roms. Isnt it? Icons at homescreen and month calendar widget are apps from Play Store. All LG's apps mostly remained the same.
There isnt much new magic in Lollipop dude just some visual changes and of course
ART
New Recents
New Notification Bar
Lockscreen Notifications
Really cool animations
I think the best 5.0 changes are the 2000 new APIs we will see some magic in the future you will see bro
Android just got even more awesome with Lollipop
I have a G3 too and I wanted to know if i flash this "test build" can I still get the automatic update from LG when the official will come out ? thanks

Yeah LG didn't adopt all the great design features of Lollipop making it a lackluster update appearance-wise. Hopefully the system is smoother with better animations and transitions. I prefer stock android look so will be making it look as close to this as possible once a stock rooted ROM pops up on the forums.

We are having a friendly discussion here please don't try to start a war. LG G3 lollipop doesn't have expandable notifications, white app drawer, redesigned quick settings just to name a few.
Yeah I Couldn't completely agree with you as i have both LG G3 and LG G2, but the UI sucks of both kitkat and lolipop, the system is fairly smooth but the greyish color in system apps suck,so i had to theme them to look like 5.0 apps, and the G2 has got the G3 kitkat version, and i cant point out much difference in terms of UI Of both lolipop and kitkat in G3.

Hm, why do you think LG must implement all of stock android features? To them be undistinguishable from dozens of cheap Chinese smartphones that put stock Android because they lack money to develop own skin and launcher?
Have you heard about a new version of LG UX 4.0 to be released before LG G4 presentation?
I don't think they "have" to this is an opinion based thread. My opinion is that stock android or close to it is the way to go. The OP stated how the update did not fully realize the wealth of material design which in essence is true. Besides the transitions and such visually it looks the same. I have no idea how cheap Chinese smartphones made their way into this conversation. I guess you are calling my tastes cheap, dunno if you even understand what exactly it is you're trying to illustrate.
Hi,
Same as Kingfish907, I am also dissapointed how the LG customized, or rather "customized" it's android L version (mean UI). Simply saying, for me, LG's UI is ugly and seems almost like on my old galaxy ace.
I am disapointed also because just before I used miui v6 on my cheap china phone and you know what? Sometimes I really regret the change... Smoothnes, behaviour, configuration possibilities and look of this chinese system are even non comparable to LG's... But it's only an example. Also cm11 looks IMVVVHO better (and seems to be more flexible) than this LG .
So, it's probably depends on user experience and demands....
Regards

I've got the LG with the latest V5 software and also got a Nexus 10 with standard 5.1 on it. There isn't a lot of difference as far as usability is concerned. Both work well and both have very good battery life (the Nexus 10 is better, but then it won't make phone calls).
Alan
Why do you want white background ??? Darker colours make battery last longer ... And to be honest I think overall look of lg is more unified ... I like it a lot ... But do hope to some changes that will make it more complete ...

I came from Samsung and I hate thier touchwiz UI. If you ask me the LG UI is much better. Neither are as good as stock android though.
Sent from my LG-D852 using XDA Free mobile app
I recently used se edge in a shop, and just opening and closing the apps was just so smooth, it worked like the same slide up animation but better, instead of like the whole slide up and down animation of lg, the apps kind of like minimised into thr icon if you know what i mean. Also they had the same dialer as stock lollipop and i hope lg brings those floatong icons in there system apps as those look really nice with nice looking animations.
I don't mind the look of LG's UI. It's just the damn lag. I parted with my Nexus 4 only because it was beginning to show its age and start lagging. I got a nasty shock when I discovered that the G3 was just as laggy if not laggier. I mean, I always heard Lollipop would be the savior and would finally get rid of Android's legendary lags. But it seems to have made no improvements on that front. I'm just sick and tired of waiting for that "next" version that would fix everything.
I just love people and the lag .... My g3 3gb version on android v20H has no lag at all ... I don't really understand what are you all talking about ... We are talking here in milli seconds not in minutes ...

Mine lags at least 1-2 seconds 50% of the time in responding to loading text messaging, switching between Apps, etc. and its doing my head in. I had a Xperia Z2 which had similar specs but never lagged and I didng have root on that either. I have only had the G3 for about 5 days and already updated to Lollipop but that is not helping either. Any suggestions people?

Pls take your sarcasm elsewhere.
Where I live, the 3GB edition isn't available. Also, I am not talking about animation lags (which is of course present as well). I am talking about not being able to multitask properly or browse multiple sites due to the system killing background apps/tabs too aggressively.

About Chinese I mean that they use stock android, because of lack of developers in those firms. LG can develop it's own custom UI, with it's QSlide and such. If you prefer stock much more than we all here on xda,and have an option to flash any ROM we like, don't we? Choose one there http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development flash it and BOOM you don't see LG's lags

Hi all!
As probably many of You I love stock android for its stellar performance, smoothness and neat simple design. With that being said I still like some HTC features and stock stability. Maybe we could find a developer to make a google play edition like rom for our M9?
This is how I see it:
2.10.401.1 stock 5.1 rom base
vanilla / google like navbar
vanilla status bar / quick setting
vanilla multitasking cards ( with translucent navbar and with full size google search bar )
vanilla statusbar icons / centered clock / percentage batery indicator (like in htc sense)
extended vanilla settings app
google now launcher / nova / sense home
stock google dialer
messenger sms app
android m calculator
google keyboard app
htc camera app
htc gallery app
htc status bar
htc or google lockscreen
stock 5.1 bootanimation
debloat / performance / battery / camera improvements
I'm new to building roms/porting stuff but i think that most of the things needed already exists. Maybe we could find a developer keen on building this google play edition like rom so that we could have one
Let me know if and of You would be intrested to help me build one or if You like this idea

Pretty sure viper had a desense install option and one of the SD team roms claim to be desensed as well. One of those might be worth a look.
Thats true but unfortunately it's nothing like stock experience. 'Desensed' viper is still sense based, with sense navbar, sense settings, multitasking, quick settings etc. Desense option just delete sense launcher and some bloatware.
I'll collect files needed to build my 'dream' vanilla rom and maybe one day someone will cook it with me.
You can pretty much do all that you want to do with Viper, you can change the navbar to whatever you want with themes, the multitasking is selectable with sense, you can theme the status bar like stock, the quick settings and settings are pretty much stock like already. Once you install Now launcher and the Google apps, you would have a pretty much Nexus looking device with a few extras. Many have done this already. It's not worth trying to get someone to build another ROM while what you want already exists.

well.. I couldn't find even one theme that changes statusbar icons/navbar to stock android.. also there is no theme that could change feel of the quick settings, pure one works quite different. I've also found themes to slow down the phone and it stutters there and there even without them.. Multitasking cards that htc offers are also a bit different than pure google ones - navbar is not completely translucent, cards often dont show app content.. also those horrible settings dots placed next to the google search bar.
I generally believe that there is space for one more rom, especially that there is no oven one google play edition like rom right now.
I've attatched a few screenshots, the difference is.. critical IMO

Did you ever try the viper rom? Doesn't sound like you did. Statusbar icons and stock android navbar can be found on the venom hub. The quick settings can be adjusted to your likes via venom tweaks. Never noticed any stutters on viper and card view always showed app content, too.
Edit: Or you combine CM with this xposed module. But as jollywhitefoot already said the camera doesn't work at the moment.
@jollywhitefoot - yes I'm basicly looking for a CM with a working camera, or to be exact for AOSP like rom.
@Flippy498 - I did.. viper was the first rom i flashed on my M9 , but i quickly switched to maximus because I ws looking for sth performing better. *note* I'm performance freak, I'm very picky, You might don't care about few droped frames - I do, and I see droped frames while opening multitasking on both viper and maximus ( only on card view ) It would this rom could have performance of the s6.
Anyway I'll give Viper a second chance and try Your tips, thanks

Man, for a "noob" you sure are specific! Haha.
What do you mean by dropped frames in recents? I'm on ice and it's full sense, but I don't notice anything laggy or stuttery in recents there is a slight delay when opening recents (fractions of a second while the cards populate). I'm also getting over 60k antutu out of the box at room temp.
@jollywhitefoot
I'm talking about that slight delay when opening multitasking window. Also I'm noob while it comes to building roms, I'm not new to android/xda/flashing roms.
+ I don't care abous benchmarks, but I'm freak while it comes to fluidity and real world performance. I also pay attention to little things like animations and those little things.

Well I find ice very smooth. Apparently you have an aosp device...there is no delay when opening recents on it??

Edit, actually I only get that slight delay when I'm on the home screen. If I press recent from inside any app, it's smooth as silk.
I had nexus 5 and on 5.0 (and under) there is delay but on 5.1 its like butter, also quick settings works differently ( than sense settings) they are nicely animated and so on..

Lol. Quite an arsenal. Where's your G4 and S6???
@jollywhitefoot
I hate design of G4 outside and inside, not a big fan of samsung as well. would rather have z3+ ( z3+ over m9 any day, but the price gap between them in poland is well, huge. 475USD for m9 and 795 for z3+ )
Going back to the main subject I'll talk with some guys and maybe will build with them the rom I'm waiting for. ( It will be like elix-r / elixium for nexus5 / m8 )
To be honest, if you want this best experience with vanilla android, it is best to get a device with it preinstalled and then even if you want to run custom roms, there are no issues. Personally, I was looking to get the Nexus 6, but didn't like the overly large screen. Now, I'm waiting to see what the Moto X 2015 brings to the table. Although, after having my M9 for a while now, I'm not sure I would switch. I'm loving being back on Sense. I also love the build quality of this device, but there is nothing special about the hardware. The one thing that is the best about this device is what you are wanting to remove, HTC Sense 7.
@ fernandezhjr
Thats quite obvious that its best to buy device with vanilla android preinstaled. I just don't like nexus 6 ( size, and looks) and I needed a phone so i bought one m9 for many reasons. I like its build quality, speakers and metal unibody and after updates the camera is not that bad ( although slow motion and video in general sucks )
With the right software I could be very satisfied , now I'm looking for that software. I like some elements of sense ( like its camera ui) or its lockscreen clock. But there are things like its quick settings that are just plain fugly ( to me of course)
I find the quick settings panel to be somewhat similar to the one I had on my Nexus 4. You can download the Google camera from the playstore. Try some different lauchers to find something you may like. The clock is just a widget. There are plenty of clocks available in the Playstore.

Already posted screenshots showing the difference, it may be simmilar but its far from being the same. As mentioned before I'm running nova launcher and i like htc stock camera interface. + I know it just a clock and there are thousands of clocks on the playstore and around the internet I was just saying that I like some parts of htc sense.
