Right basically I got a g2 a couple of weeks ago and loved it but it started developing call issues where the person on the other end couldn't hear me very well or I sounded muffled (I swapped phones with someone during a call and it did sound awful) now I've tried the tutting noise cancellation thing of in call settings and a blast of compressed air.
but I was wondering if when I changed the battery a few days ago whether I may have dislodged something slightly and was wondering if anyone knew exactly where the mic was and what to look for. Now I don't mind changing the mic and everything else over as it was fairly easy doing the battery but thought I'd ask on here before ordering more parts
Do you have ok google from any screen turned on? I had the same problem, but after I turned off that option my calls are back to normal.

Ah not tried that one will give it a go, cheers
I have the same problem, but it only happens when I'm taking to them while laying down (thus the phone is parallel to the ground).
Are you laying down when this happens?

Thank you that appears to have done the trick might have to look into it though seems a bit daft offering a feature that messes up your calls, and I quite liked having it... Battery replaced, new white back cover on, next up is to try root it again and chuck cyanogen on it

No, but I do like the idea of my phone being lazy though and not working properly because it's lying down
I'd like to see a software patch that disables google now when a call is in progress... Pointless to be talking to someone and they hear you say "ok google" anyway... Maybe the solution is on Google's side of the equation. Shouldn't google be able to make some code telling the service to stop when a call is in progress, then reactivate once the call has ended? The service is pretty much useless during a call anyway, unless you want the other party to hear what you're searching google for.

A word of caution to fellow T-Mobile Wing owners:
I've found out that (occasionally) when my phone is ringing, the microphone is on and the caller can hear everything! My wife mentioned that she notices this when she calls. She can hear the ringer, and can hear me talking to others BEFORE I answer the phone! This can be really bad! The last thing I need is someone calling and hearing me mutter "What the #$%^ does this $%^& want now?" Plus it gives a big feeling of lack of privacy.
I thought surely it was a fluke, so called my self via landline and found it happened about 1 out of 10 or 15 times.
My next thought was it was software - some 3rd party app or tweak had caused it, so I hard reset back to the default stock ROM and still had the same problem. I installed a few different cooked ROMs, and still had the same problem.
The next troubleshooting step is to rule out hardware. My brother and coworker also use a Wing. I tried the same test and found the same issue there, so it wasn't unique to my device.
I called T-Mobile support to see if there was anything they could do, and they gave me a few bonehead suggestions: swap sim cards, hard reset, make sure the battery is fully charged...
Since this issue occurs:
1. With a clean stock ROM
2. With different cooked ROMs
3. On multiple devices
I don't really know what can be done about this. All I can do is watch my mouth while my phone is ringing until the T-MO Diamond or whatever Android phone they release comes out...
Anyone have any ideas? All you other Wing owners may want to try this yourself, or ask someone who calls you often if they've noticed it!
Ryan
oh wow no wonder.
its happend to me before.
but only once so im good.
thanks for clarification
This happens to me quite frequently. If you quickly put the phone to your ear when you answer you can hear your ringtone still playing, but hear the person on the other line as well. I think it's more along the lines of a delay in your ringer shutting off rather than the mic turning on.
Just my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong.

I do experience what you're describing, but this is different. If I leave the phone sitting on the counter, then somebody calls me, they can hear my ringer and anything going on around the phone even if I don't touch it.
It's like the phone mic occasionally turns itself on, and the caller hears the open mic instead of the normal dialing tone.

But that's the thing... the phone isn't picked up. After about 30 seconds, it rolls over to voicemail and shows as a missed call...

I have had my nexus for about a month now and a little while back started having problems with the microphone. People on the other end will say I sound like I am in a "tunnel" or "distant". Seems to get worse during long conversations. Sometimes I can hold a 20 minute conversation and not have one problem other times it gets so bad that they cant even hear me.
I have really good reception and 3g at my house. I called T-mobile to see if it could be something with their network and they said probably not since they had only noticed problems in Texas and some other random state (I live in BK,NY) . Called HTC and they were no help at all (said I should try and reboot my phone thats all they could think of). Called google and they said I sounded just fine. As I said before It doesn't happen during every single call, but I have had about 3 different people tell me the same thing...
Anyways, the bootloader is unlocked so I can't send it in to get it replaced or even have it looked at with out paying an arm and a leg.
Anyone Have any ideas? Anyone? Bueler? Bueler?
Thanks.
Ok this is just a random thought as I have had a similar experience, but only when I hold said phone with my shoulder. Are we perhaps doing something to the noise cancelling mic? Would covering it make a difference during a conversation? Something to do with the proximity sensor? i am just thinking out loud.
I dont think its the proximity sensor because I put tape on it keeping the screen off and it was still doing it. as for covering the mic on the other side I don't know. I guess i could cover it for a while and see what happens. I'm going to send it to HTC and see what they say. Hopefully its a hardware issue that they can fix for nothing.
Guys, since my 6p, almost every call I make or receive, the person on the other end tells me that they are hearing what they said back. It's like an echo of what they said. I head them perfect and no issues on my end.
Anyone else having this issue?
And to add, I'm trying calls with and without case and it doesn't make a difference. Sometimes the echo for the person on the other end goes away after few minutes but most of the time it stays for the entire conversation. I also just today tried whatsapp call but same issue. Very frustrating as everything else on the phone is perfect.
I had this yesterday on WhatsApp
Any ideas? I sure can't be the only one out there with this issue.
It's a typical Google mic cancellation issue like the nexus 5 had. It will never be fixed.

Doesn't look so typical as Internet/forum search brings nothing being reported regarding this on Nexus 6p. Don't care what's on Nexus 5.
The problem is specific to callers on the other end of the phone hearing themselves back when they speak.
I have had the same issues. To fix I lower my volume all the way down then they say it's fine. The other option is to use speakerphone. I did read somewhere people are using their finger to cover the mic hole on the back. I'll try that today.

Here is the best temporary fix. Use a headset with a built in mic.
Also, calls over internet are more likely to get echo. Try a regular phone call, no Google voice and such either, just a regular sim number based call.

Covering the mic hole did help but if my volume was to high it would still do it. It's like the sound vibrations are getting picked up through the phone. Anyways I am rooted and romed. I may look into turning noise cancellation off.
I'm personally having this issue only when the back casing are attached to the phone or when i accidentally cover the back mic with my finger
Posting an update. It seems doing either one of the below fixes the echo callers on the other end are hearing:
1. Cover the mic at the back top of the phone during the call
2. Or Lower the volume to like half or three quarters of the way
I prefer option 2 and all is fine now.

Long term have you had issues in busy places like airports, bars/restaurants? Do people complain of too much noise around you with noise cancelling turned off?
the issue is still persist even after the June OTA. is there any way we can contact Google or Huawei to fix this issue permanently ?
I really love the phone but this issue is frustrating as it is a basic need in any phone. phone calls must be ok. how it can be fixed without root ?
It might be due to phones calls over the internet such as advanced calling on Verizon...I had this issue too a while back but I read somewhere this could be the issue do I turned off of advanced calling(calling over the internet so while I'm on a call I can use the internet over 4g). This is quite annoying since I sometimes do need to use internet while I'm on a call but I think the echo problem is worse.
So far no one has complained about an echo since I turned off advanced calling when before purplpeople would complain or stop talking about every call. Hope this helps
I don't talk a lot on the phone, so it's taken a couple months to find out this issue.... When I'm talking to someone on the phone, I have to hold the phone pressed up against my face and speak a little louder than I normally do.. If I pull it away any at all, people are always saying they can't hear me or I sound really muffled.
I just called my voice mail and left a message, and this is what I've discovered as well. I knew what I said, but had problems understanding myself unless I held it right up to my face and spoke slightly louder than I've had to do with any other phone.
I heard, back in December, this was an issue and was to be fixed on the next update.... I'm now on a M29P (January release) ROM and nothing has changed.
Has anyone found this to be an issue or have you found a work around/fix for this?
I have the same issue.
When I put the phone in my neck so I have my hands free, people tell me I'm very hard to hear, and it's perfect when I hold it in a normal position...
It's quite frustrating, as I sometimes need to have my hands free..
Same here

Same happen here, it's because the noise reduction micro that the nexus 6p has back, check the small hole on the back face of the phone, when you are in a call put your finger there and they will say the same "I cannot hear you well", there are tweaks on the forums, but I have not tested yet, I used to use the speakers instead
If the phone is like 6 inches away they cant hear me, it's a noise cancelling issue, too strict.
Change in build.prop from true to disable noise cancelling.
persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=false
I had this with the very first call I made, but haven't had that complaint since

I can't fathom how this is still an issue. I get constant, i mean CONSTANT echo. People stating they hear themselves when they talk to me. I finally downloaded build prop editor as instructed here and edited persist.audio.fluence.voicecall=false as shown here. I have yet to test but it can't possibly get worse than EVERY DAMN CALL not working. Seriously , this is a phone, the tech for calls was perfected only a decade or more ago ?

Have only had the phone for a few days but have noticed that the call quality on my phone is horrible. Everyone that I call tells me that the quality is horrible, I keep going in and out and it just sounds like I have no service at all even when i have full 4g.
I have tried everything I can think of (Turning HD calling on and off, turning data on and off, factory reset my phone) and nothing has helped. If someone could please help me that would be great! I love the phone, but this could be a reason why I will be returning and getting a replacement or just something else all together.

I would take it to a Verizon store and have them check it out. See if theirs is the same. I don't have that problem and if it was common I'm sure a lot of people would be complaining about.

I'm having the same problem. The other day it was choppy for a call, and today I got a bad echo. Please post the result, I'd like to know if it's the phone.
Unfortunately while waiting for my phone case in the mail and trying to be careful, I managed to drop the phone and there's a very small chip/bubble underneath the left soft-key so I'll be unable to exchange it if it's the phone.
I shall know tomorrow! I need to get to the bottom of it

Have you tried toggling the voice privacy setting in the dialer to see if that helps. I remember that being a quick fix on some random phone from years ago... Don't even know if that would accomplish anything but worth a shot of nothing else is working.
Just to update my problems with the phone, I think it's inherently different from OP's problem. After talking with the people I experienced the issue with, they could here me fine, I would just hear them in poor quality. But the issue hasn't happened for a few days now and the echo I experienced is due to one person's phone, and I think the issue is on their end. Chalking it up to crappy connection for me.
so after a few days of trying to figure out what the problem was and having a guy at Verizon look at it and installing a new SIM, the phone seems to be working fine. Call quality is normal and no one has complained about it sounding choppy or anything out of the norm. g
I had this problem on my note 3 before sometimes it's just lint not the phone there should be little holes one on top one on bottom they are microphones tiny dot of you get it dirty you sound horrible to the other ppl I had that happen on many phones good luck. Oh be careful use something small to clean but try it.

I have an s7 using the ATT network and the complaints about call quality has led me to looking into switching to a Nexus. I will never buy a samsung again after this experience. The entire purpose of a phone is to have calls go through. I can use my tablet or anything else if I wanted to only have good wifi call quality.
I purchased my S7 in April of 2016 and am having the same or similar problem. If someone is talking to me on the phone and I start to speak or if there is noise in the room, the voice of the caller crackles in my ear and then gets muted completely. The voice will not return until I quit speaking or the room noise changes. All of this happens within milliseconds, so you only catch bits and pieces of the conversation. It is very annoying. We have done all kinds of tests and setting changes to the phone with no results. The poor call quality is random but persists when using the phone earpiece, speaker phone or Bluetooth headset.
Verizon has sent me two replacement phones and one SIM card. Now they are saying that they want to send me a third phone and SIM card.
Any suggestions?
Grrr... I feel you on the cracked device. Thanks for the warning/reminder. I switched off the HD call setting altogether. Just got mine and the call quality is awful; cuts in and out and sounds like electrical interference (one of those old kid voice things that make it sound electric). If these tricks don't work, I am returning it before I 'crack' mine.
