Gallery update - Verizon Motorola Droid Turbo General

I don't know how many of you guys are had the Droid Maxx before getting your Turbo. Last year a week or 2 before KitKat came out Moto updated the Camera and or the gallery app. Well it not only took root from you but it prevented you from getting root as well. With Lollipop just around the corner I'm thinking I'm not going to take this update. This is just a parinoid heads up for you others out there who are suffering along side me with no root. Tell me I'm wrong and the app is fine .. I have NO development skills whatsoever.. Just a good memory.

Idk if it would matter in a situation like that or not but I just looked and it has the option to uninstall the updates like all the other stock apps

Are we ever going to get 2.2

I love my phone but it's frustrating seeing other galaxy devices getting updates left and right while we get left in the dark
I posted a comment on samsung forum saying that this phone is great but it's already outdated when it hit the stores and they denied my comment
Honestly I'm losing hope due to the fact my girlfriend had a Droid Incredible with 2.2 even my old G1 has 2.2 it may be to much for it to handle it but it still has 2.2
Btw. If it wasn't for you developers I would have left a long time ago Thank You Guys
Sent from my Rooted space time Continuum w/ 2600mAh battery
It will get 2.2 eventually, but only time will tell how long. If we can get kernel source for the I500 phones, we should be able to get you a working kernel, and you may be able to use one of the Fascinate Froyo ROMs then. The biggest problem you'll have is getting the kernel until Samsung releases the OTA or source because of the different video driver used for the screen/ticker/soft keys.

I'm with you on this update lincoln3823. Very frustrating hearing other phones have froyo while a phone released in November is unable to get an update.
I love my phone but I'm going crazy with my RSS not working at all and SNS not working correctly (facebook-yes; twitter-no).
I've even reset my phone and it worked for maybe a couple of days.
Why won't they push an update to froyo??

Well it was said that samsung was charging carriers to release ota firmware updates. I don't know how much it is true but I'm starting to believe the rumors.
Sent from my Rooted space time Continuum w/ 2600mAh battery
If that's true, that really stinks.
Sure wish I new someone who knows the answer to this question.
Heck, I might even pay for it, if the cost (ROI) was worth it. Sure would like to see flash on my phone. Besides froyo has 57% of the market vs. eclair at 31%.
That's crazy considering the Continuum came out in November.
On another note:
I haven't rooted my phone and I noticed your signature as Rooted.
Question? Is it worth rooting? I've read Pros on it but haven't seen any Cons. What's the drawback on it? Updates? Can you revert back to stock if I choose too.

There is only 1 con of rooting. Having to re-root after an OTA update

Yea are no cons every since I rooted my phone. I was able to freeze all of verizon garbage freeing up memory thats usually taken by crap that I don't use eg. skype and you can root and unroot as many times as you like

I hear you dfgged.
So like I've been looking around at forums to root my phone but I have no idea what I'm doing. Really none. Just got my continuum in Jan. I read about OneClick and SuperOneClick (think that's right) and sometimes it works and sometime not.
Can you point me to the "Root for Dummies" section?
Also, what software do I need to backup my phone incase of trouble so I can revert back to stock?

BTW, I rooted my phone using SuperOneClick. It worked perfectly and I've verified it using Root Checker. Now my next step is I want to remove or freeze the bloatware.
I'll direct future non Subject (Are we ever going to get 2.2) related questions to appropriate Threads posting.
I really didn't have an idea about rooting either....seems like I was looking everywhere for rooting information. I tried z4 multiple times with no effect. superoneclick worked. I am running a windows 7 laptop. The phone drivers updated (downloaded from the net) when I plugged in my phone. Then I followed the video instructions on superoneclick site and everything worked fine. continuum w/ verizon. Now I just need to figure out how update to 2.2 I"m on the way!

There is no leaks available yet so the only way to get to 2.2 is to wait, or hope that Adrynalyne can get a leak.
But both imnuts and Adrynalyne are both working on custom roms so there will be some love for the continuum

It's now March 29, still no 2.2. Any info?

samsung submitted ec17 for the fascinate to verizon...and apparently that is still in testing...im just gonna assume it ll fail testing like most of their updates and never come out
the fascinate root crowd no longer really cares though as the mesmerize 2.2 officially came out w/ source....
but it seems like continuum updates follow quickly behind fascinate updates...so if hypothetically a fascinate ota occured like this week then it would probably be soon after for the i400
Ok, I was just fine tweaking 2.1 for now until something happened and we finaly got 2.2+, since Eclair isn't really that bad. Now I am starting to see 2.2+ only apps (ones that I want to try mostly) and it's starting to make me less patient. It saddens me since this phone had so much potential with the decent hardware and interesting ticker feature, but it is quickly being left in the dust as the little android that couldn't... /sadpanda
Looks like Samsung has released the Froyo source code for the Fascinate... that could be a good sign... Of course, isn't there a Fascinate on Rogers (Canada) that has had Froyo for awhile?
I know I saw it on android central and I got excited but then again we did get left behind once before

Any reason NOT to take the KitKat update?

Hey guys and gals, I just got my Moto X yesterday, and I'm liking it so far. I have a Note 3 but I got a $150 promo code so thought I would give it a shot.
With that being said, I got a prompt for the KitKat update last night but I delayed it for now. I have read some horror stories about bad battery life. Is it true? Other than that, is there any major reason that I shouldn't update to KitKat?
Thanks!
I haven't had any problem with battery life on mine. I don't see a huge reason to upgrade but I like the latest so I took the update. I also don't see a huge reason not to upgrade either. I guess if you like the blue of jb or if you plan on rooting you have a few more options for the xposed modules on jb, but other than that, I can think of no good reason to keep jb. As always YMMV.
You can always RSD back to 4.2.2 if you don't like kitkat, but you lose all data and have to start from scratch.

I think it's easier to root on jelly bean. Otherwise I'm having great battery life on kit Kat, no issues here.
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk
Kitkat is wonderful. My battery life is the same if not marginally better. Don't listen to the horror stories, they probably have everything set to sync every second and suck at phoneing.
If you want to root, root now on JB. Otherwise you'll have to flash back after the update.
Good to see you around. Great phone.

We could reverse this question and ask: Is there any reason TO upgrade to KitKat? What's new/great with 4.4 ?
I feel like we all should have unlocked bootloaders so root wouldn't be an issue. I'm on USC unlocked and rooted on KitKat running xposed framework and gravity box, I love it. Battery last at least 24 hours of moderate usage. The last three days my battery stats have been SOLID! I had 1 day nine hours 2 days ago, 1 day 7 hours yesterday and am at almost 12 hours and at 64%...Wolfepack said it, don't listen to horror stories, those select few can't handle heat in the kitchen obviously lol.

Unrooted kit Kat isn't an option for me.... No Gsam.
And anything after 4.2.2 has buggy flash or it doesn't work at all.
Mixed reviews on 4.4 battery life.
And basically nothing new since 4.2.2 that matters to me personally.
So I'll just hang out on 4.2.2. Same for my N7.

exchange email doesnt work well on 4.4 for me, i have 3 accounts, and when i set them, some show calendar, some dont, some push emails , some dont.
no issues on 4.2.2 with that.
Kit Kat has been great for me. Battery life seems about the same.
All of Motorola's recent system app updates that they have done (and will continue to do) through the play store are for 4.4 devices only, so that should be a very compelling reason to update.

Yay Lollipop for Droid turbo... it sucks, tons of issues

I can't figure out how to edit the top post on this
Got the update this morning and hardly noticed. One thing to note is the Verizon messaging application crashes when trying to send and receive MMS forcing me to use the new version. I only noticed because of this glitch. It has other instabilities as well and my battery suffered a loss, I only get about a full days use where I used to have almost 2. Also the phone keeps going into Airplane mode. The camera can't record in 4k mode either...
The first is the phone before the update, the latter two are after... Still near stock with circles widget. I can take it in to get it replaced, but I don't want the Verizon tramp stamp...

Sorry Droid Turbo, and no I don't do soak tests. I rely too heavily on the device for business. I have a feeling the update may get delayed due to this. Trust me there are issues, and it is the only reason I noticed I got the update at all. The Maxx is the non-Verizon version.
Can you post some screenshot of the 'about phone'?

If you've got lollipop, then why is the usb debugging icon from kitkat? :/
It's an alternative launcher....
So you got the update this morning? And yet you already know how the battery life is? Yeah nothing to see here, move along. Let's lock this before it gets out of hand
The op is also the guy that claims to have got root working.. Then provided Nada...
There's actually no indicative that it's lollipop. It's just the Google Now launcher before and after the update (app update)
Everything looks as kitkat as it could. Sorry, pal. You didn't fool us
Hey look, I got the update too!!
Its called an updated Google Now Launcher (or any other up to date third party launcher for that matter), not Lollipop.

I thought I would, but everything I used to use root for I can do non-rooted now. This has all that I want and more, only a few minor setbacks.
USB OTG for storage, and USB gamepad, keyboards etc...
Wireless HDMI
USB Tethering I use PDA Net
Sideloading applications, provided they are signed, and signing an unsigned application isn't that hard...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can hide the apps (only drawback) but not uninstall them
I can't load kernel modules
Buttons are hardware so changing them is a non-issue
I can't change the battery icon
In fact up until the Lollipop update, the device has been fast, smooth, stable, and did everything I wanted. I think rooting and romming aside, and of course my next phone will be a developer phone, but I can live without root for a little while, this works well. I am off to the Verizon store to replace this so I can get a working Kit-Kat version, if I can get one without the Verizon trampstamp. If not I will just wait for a fix which will be coming shortly.

That's touchwiz you're talking about. It doesn't look like stock android anyway. The Turbo (like most Moto phones) is meant to be as close to stock as possible. I'd be willing to bet quite a bit that our wifi icon will be solid white when we get the update.

We've got the g4 but no party along with it?

I just got my g4 in the mail and I'm loving it. First phone I ordered brand new so it's my first time seeing an empty forum. No root, no twrp, no xposed. Nothing!
Do you guys have non-root alternatives to our favorite root apps and mods?

WHO ELSE IS LOVING THEIR G4?!?!
yea, it's been weird for me too. I've had HTC flagships the last 5-6 years. Always got it and already had unlock, root, recovery and some ROMs. This is a whole new feeling for me. We have root for the 815, which I have. So I'll grab that tonight.
LOVING the device too - exceeds my expectations for sure. Gorgeous display, fast, loud speaker, no complaints at all. But yea, missing the activity in the forum to go along with it!
TWRP is available now!

unfortunately it looks like the party is only going to be for the ones who got the international version. the models for the US phone carriers do not look like they'll be rooted. kinda sucks
Just be patient, LG will provide unlock for other models soon.
You can change your dpi without root using adb. I already had adb set up, so I just used the commands from here: http://android.wonderhowto.com/how-...creen-resolution-without-root-access-0160439/

I am hoping for this too. But the fact is there is absolutely nothing official from Motorola regarding version or time frame at this time. All we know is that they plan to update the Moto X Pure/Style. Anything else is just speculation.
Posted in the wrong thread sorry. I have corrected the error.

While not sure if this happened to DU but I do know that for awhile mods and admins here were allowing people to take credit for work they did not do. A number of Devs got very angry when little jerks were taking their work and renaming Roms and using tools they had built without giving credit. This blew up into a big tiff and a number of very good devs left XDA and even some major project players like DU left and have not been back. I have no idea why this was allowed to transpire but it was ugly for about a year. I suspect there were other behind the scenes issues that I as a non dev was not aware of as well.

The wait for Nougat update is killing!
BTW have the X Pure users in US or X Style users anywhere received the Nougat update?

No... No one has gotten it or seen any news on it at all, in fact it is entirely possible it won't happen at all.
If it occurs, the soonest we would see a mass roll-out is early March knowing Moto's 45-60 day soak test policy.
Patience...
Meh. I really want to upgrade, but I'm still on LP! It's gonna suck going to MM then N. Not looking forward to it!
any news ?
I am kind of worried about this. I have my SD card formatted as "internal storage". If I update to 7.0 will this interfere and make me lose all my data like photos and videos?
Don't forget, anyone participating in a soak test is NDA'd from even discussing that they're participating in a soak test .... so there's really no way to even know if it's under test somewhere.

What kind of card are you using? I have messed up a SanDisk ultra a lexar and a Samsung card using it as internal. It stopped reading it and then everything in my cards was lost.
I just received a security update today for my Moto X Pure. Is that a precursor for Android 7?
No not really just a regular security update roll up. Moto has been sending them out every 3 to 4 months and they are usually several months behind when they come out.
