Yes it's true.. Moto has finally announced the Lollipop soak test for it's most renowned and old device MOTO X
Motorola has finally announced the Lollipop 5.0.1 soak test for Moto X(2013). Motorola gained a lot of good will by updating its latter phones to the newest version of Android, starting with the Moto X. But for some reason, the 2013 Moto X has lagged far behind for updates to Lollipop. Now, five months after Android 5.0 first started rolling out to Nexus devices, the OG Moto X is finally getting its Lollipop update. Well, sort of: it's getting a soak test.
A soak test is basically Motorola's beta test for device firmware. Participants of soak tests are usually limited to the members of Motorola's support forum, and the program is rarely commented on in any official capacity. Moto is breaking that trend for the Moto X's Lollipop release: Motorola employee Luciano Carvalho has confirmed that the test is going out and answered a few questions on his Google+ profile.
https://plus.google.com/+LucianoCarvalho/posts/HcUKVhLh84P
Moto usually sends out an over-the-air update for the device in question anywhere from one to six weeks after the soak test, so 2013 Moto X users shouldn't have to wait too much for an official Lollipop build.
SORRY IT'S 5.0.2 not 5.0.1
The version you would be getting is 5.0.2 not 5.0.1 . Sorry for it :good:

When is avaiable for Nexus?
How long for us?
The first rumor.....

Early 2015 Android L for Moto X.
Two months.. :/
Android 5.0 L Eligible And Ineligible Smartphones: Motorola, Samsung Galaxy And Sony Xperia

Until 2015.......
Motorola have been pretty good about providing timely updates, even beating out some Nexus devices. Punit Soni himself confirmed the 2013 X will get Android L, so there's that. However, with the 2014 X out now, it could get pushed back. I think January 2015 is a solid target month to expect the 2013 X to get updated.
I wouldn't be surprised of Motorola decides to just cancel the update they've done it before with the photon 4g

Even if we do get L, it would take long time
I doubt it will take anywhere near that long, that sounds more like a timeline for heavily skinned device. The moto x is pretty barebones with only a few apps so i'd say it'll be a relatively quick update. I'd guess mid November with mid December being the latest.
It’s Official: Android 5.0 Lollipop Coming to Moto X, Moto G, Moto E and More
Keeping in mind that Motorola made the brand new Nexus 6, I am pretty sure it must be an easy task to push L very soon to all its devices. But this was the same with the previous update. Moto promised that they will push the 4.4.4 update very soon but they took quite some time due to carrier issues and quite a few other stuff to all its devices.
I just hope we all also get the L soon so that we can lick our LOLLIPOPs :victory:
It shouldn't be long for us, remember how fast the update for 4.4 came
I'm pretty sure 5.0 will be fast to port and release. After all, Moto probably got 5.0 before anyone else due to the Nexus 6. I wouldn't be amused if it's almost done for Moto X 2014.

Android Lollipop features
I've been following Android Police's covering of all the Android Lollipop Dev Preview (which is basically as close to the finished OS as you can get before the final release) features. It seems that the Nexus 6 (and also Android 5.0) will be coming with an always listening feature for hotword detection of "OK Google" and something akin to Moto Display called "Ambient screen". It seems that Google is really utilizing those patents it acquired from Motorola before selling it to Lenovo. I would love to try these features out! Maybe someone will make a basic ROM of 5.0 (here's to hoping!)... At any rate it seems more and more that the Moto X 2013 was really a beta test of some of Google's 5.0 features. Can't wait for the official release!!!

No, they're still owned by Google. Lenovo still hopes to have their acquisition of Motorola Mobility close by end of 2014. It's taking longer than many expected, but it's not done just yet.

I just found out, http://www.cnet.com/news/lenovo-closes-acquisition-of-motorola-mobility-from-google/
How is possible that Moto G 2nd generation have lollipop before that moto x 2013?????
It’s no secret we love Android. That’s why every one of our Moto phones is built on a foundation of pure Android - it’s easier to use, delivers amazing performance and lets you choose how you want to use your phone. So we have more sweet Android news to share...
When a new version of Android is announced, one of the first questions on everyone's mind is "when will my device be getting updated?" Fortunately, Motorola has moved towards complete transparency and providing timely updates over the past couple of years, and with the announcement of Lollipop it is providing details on what Moto owners can expect in the coming weeks.
That the Moto X, G, and E are all getting Lollipop is probably a good sign. Here's what the Official Statement Reveals :
Once Android 5.0 L is officially released, we intend to bring this latest upgrade to many of our other Motorola devices, as well. This includes Moto X (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G (1st and 2nd Gen), Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E(yaay !! ), Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini.
Motorola is fantastic.... it updates even a very much low end Phone i.e Moto E to Lollipop. Cheers Moto !!

Happy to hear that. Thanks for the information. Now the question is when do we expect it?

Among the few chosen flagship smartphones to receive it first was the Motorola devices. While these seem like great ideas, the catch is that the devices might be the first ones to be affected by bugs and other issues. Hopefully, we'll have less of that this time.
Android users are curious if the same courtesy will be extended to Motorola series this year with the subtly-launched, Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Here's the latest Android 5.1 Moto G, Moto X, Moto E Release Date and Features.
AndroidOne was the first to reveal that Google already unveiled and unleashed the Android 5.1 Lollipop. While media outlets have initially suggested that it will only be available to Asian markets, since the service-based corporation has been planning to expand in that area, others don't have to worry because the update will arrive very soon.
And it looks like the newest OS has started to surface in Moto G now. According to Master Herald, a leaked image online revealed the device to be running on the Android 5.1 Lollipop.
With a build number, LXY22E dated on February 2, Google has fulfilled its tradition of launching it to Motorola first- on Moto G, Moto X, Moto E- first ahead of other manufacturers; except for Google Nexus 6.
What can you expect from the upgrade? A feature that will make a triumphant resurrection is the silent version of the smartphones, which was removed with the Android 5.0 Lollipop. Aside from that, a boost in the behavior of Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, a better RAM for optimized memory, and greater battery performance are to arrive with the latest software.
Android 5.1 Lollipop is expected to roll out on an end of February release date for other smartphones.

Motorola recently announced that it will be updating the G4 Plus to Android Or as well. But it also stated that it usually updates the G line to only one major Android version. Does this mean that the they'll hang the G5 Plus at Oreo? Or does the marketing material say otherwise, and we could use it to get P for us as well?

Bro lets just see how much time does it time takes for moto (lenovo) to give us official Android O update:cyclops:
till december we will get oren and forget about P...that s for sure as of now, according to the above statement from moto!
I read on Lenovo forum a comment from Motorola employee that they have policy of one major os update in Moto G line. So android P for G5 is unlikely.
G4 plus is getting Oreo because Motorola advertised (by mistake, as they say now) it like that at the time of G4 release
1 major update policy for Moto G line is lies!
The original Moto G got updated from Jellybean to Kikat and Lollipop
The 2nd gen Moto G for updated from Kikat to Lollipop and Marshmallow
So? That was in the past.
I have hope in getting Android P in MoTo G5 PLUS
All hope is in us. I'm afraid that we will have to fight on social media and forums (Lenovo profiles, forums, etc.) to get Android P in future.
I wouldn't be surprised if we never see Android p on g5 through Lenovo. My Moto X Pure Edition (Clark) was promised nougat for a long time and when I switched to g5 a few weeks ago I still hadn't received the OTA

We just have to tell them that every other budget phone gets two upgrades so it is stupid that Motos can only get 1

If Lenovo's history continues... later this year (November or December) at the earliest, possibly beginning of next year.
Remember, even they don't even have Nougat out to all models that are getting yet... US users with the Moto X Pure are still waiting and that was a flagship for like 16 months.
Why do you want Oreo so much anyway? I don't see anything worthy waiting
Hi all,
I am excited for the oreo ota which the moto g5 plus is going to receive. I have a few questions. Will Oreo drain more battery and how would it benefit the moto g5 plus. Also will we get an ota to 8.0 or 8.1 and should we expect an OTA to 9.0 in the future because the moto g3 and g4 only received one update.

Looking at how we haven't received any OTA for 7.1 let alone 7.1.2, I'd say it is very much likely that Moto will release an OTA for 8.0 and not 8.1 and definitely not 9.0 because we won't be getting the second major android update coz Moto only promised one major android update than the one that came with the phone. We might have a good run with the custom ROMs though
it's not moto anymore who decides it's ****in LENOVO
Ikr. God the CEO of Motorola and people from Google must be crying. Lenovo has turned Motorola into a cheap Chinese company, so many phones, terrible after market support and no updates. What have they done to Motorola. From two major software updates to just one update and no security patches for the moto g and turning the moto x from a flagship to a mid ranger.
