Since the update to Lollipop I have terrible cell signal and constantly drop calls. My data is fine. I want to flash back to the KK modem but in reading I saw something mentioning the Kernel controls the cell signal. Is that correct and flashing the modem will be pointless?
Thanks

Are you with Verizon? If not, have you checked with your carrier to update your APN?
If you are with Verizon, I would address the problem with them. Just dial *611 if you don't want to go there.
I have already spoken to Verizon. They checked and said I'm on the outskirts of coverage and tried to cell me the range extender.

I seem to be having the strangest LTE / 4G signal issues with the S4. I get 4G fine but when i leave a 4G area it drops to H+ or if the signal on 4G is weak it drops to H / H+ during this transition i am left without any signal for seconds to minutes as it switches.
Is there any way to find out what my LTE modem version is as i know my GSM one?
I am not too sure if this switch is normal to be lost without signal as GSM > H > H+ works fine and i still have signal

Check your baseband version and try to flash through ODIN the right one for your location

how do i do this? i can only see GSM modem not LTE. i know both versions maybe different
Mate the baseband of your phone is the same for both the gsm and lte configurations of your phone. If that won't work you can still check your carriers vpn configurations to see if there are correct

i just searched forums :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2525084
respider posted this:
**If you are having the old bootloader XXUB flash GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ5_and_LTE_Modem_XXUBMH1.tar file with odin by selecting phone.
**If you are having the new bootloader XXUD flash GSM_Modem_XXUEMJ5_and_LTE_Modem_XXUEMJ5.tar file with odin by selecting phone.
So this means that even if it says the LTE modem is different to the GSM modem you are saying that the help about the modem for GSM and LTE is in fact the same?

From my knowledge you cant flash anything you like. You need to flash the correct modem for your region.Whats the version of your bootloader and your country so i can link you the correct file
I am experiencing the same thing, the switch from H+ to 4G doesn't drop the actual signal from the network whereas from 4G to H+ the signal drops leaving me no service at all for a few seconds.
I am starting to think that this is the normal behavior because it's like this since I got the S4. Oh and I have the latest modem for my country as well if that helps.
Perhaps someone with knowledge on how the modem works can chime in?

Thanks chickentuna for your reply
Ok the 4G works perfectly fine in Hong Kong, London but as soon as i leave london and go to areas with 4G but low signal, i get the horrible loss of network until the phone does a search. I think its more network / phone related but would just need to learn to disable 4G out of the main cities.
asbanoglou thanks for trying you can flash any modem but whether or not it will work is another matter. I understand bootloader, different modems and csc i am looking for something a little more non generic. I first assumed this was the firmware / modem combo but after trying multiple ones this does not seem to be the case unless there is a long standing issue with the S4 and LTE.
As a future note to get the modem versions you dial *#1234# . More > About does not give you the full picture but thanks for those who tried to help
Does anyone own Airave? It seems that I get a strong 3g signal when idle or browsing the internet when airave, but for some strange reason, when I make calls the signal drops down to low-to no signal and it couldn't detect airave.
For people that own Airave, is anyone have this kind of issue for NAE modem?
Thanks
EDIT: NVM It works again by resetting Airave.
I also have an Airave but have notice no change in signal. It's always good to do a power down reset every so often as it also forces a software update if needed.

I had been running a GSM unlocked XT907 for service through Net10. After installing KitKat over-the-air, I've not been able to get any cell reception (WiFi works fine). Factory reboot, reflashing 4.4.3 had no effect; I generally can't detect any available GSM or CDMA networks. I've tried a few locations in downtown DC, and briefly got one bar long enough to download a few text messages, so the settings still seem correct. Any ideas what could have ruined my reception?

I've heard of situations where the radio image is damaged or something of that sort. It is possible to reflash that using many tools and whatnot. But I'm no expert. ATTACK and RikRong are two Android-educated fellows. Maybe you could ask them. But all I know is that it could be a problem with the radio

anyone have any updates on this issue. Issue being the reception is really really poor. I am getting 3g when i should be getting Lte. As soon as i revert back to touchwiz, i get great lte. I know its not an area issue. Flashed the latest modem. double and triple checked apn settings. Currently set to lteapn

What modem are you running? Are you on NB7 modem? If not look in my signature for the guide.
yup running the latest modem
Hi, I'm very new to this site. Sorry if this has been asked before. I have an At&t S5, and it only connects to 4g and only in places where service is REALLY good. Anywhere else I will have bars but no 4g, 3g, etc. and is not connected to at&t. Ive made sure its set to gsm/lte. Any thoughts? ?
has your phone been rooted and have had a custom rom flashed? Sometimes the custom rom could have a different modem which causes these problems, you could flash a SM-G900A modem with odin and it might solve it, or just flash the stock rom which is a little easier but you lose your data
Hi, sorry for the late reply. I've been out of service area for awhile. The phone has been rooted before, but I've been having this problem since before the root.
hmm thats pretty strange, maybe it's only a 4g simcard or your phone isnt finding or there isnt any different type of networks in that area?
It just doesn't make sense that I would have bars but not have any connection to the network.
So youre connected but you cant access it? Send messages or use mobile data? That happened to me multiple times when I had a incompatible modem..
I will have bars but it doesn't say 3g/2g/H/H+/E. The only time I can text/call/etc. unless I have 4g, which is the only one it ever shows. And in places where my friends have 4g, mine shows nothing. Has to be like a big city.

When you have bars but no 4g can you still text and call?

No. It says not registered on network. I've tried all of the "Not Registered on Network" solutions all over the Internet and none of them work...for me anyway.
