I have a G2 running Cyanogen 6.1.1 with pershoots latest kernel and when I enter a AT&T roaming area my phone crashes and reboots itself. God forbid I try and use google maps or places. I noticed if I uncheck the "national data roaming" the phone operates as normal but ofcourse I don't have any kind of data access.
Has anyone else noticed this behavior?
Does this happen with the stock rom? I wouldn't know because I been running cyanogen from day 1.
The phone has some serious issues when roaming. Even after I came back to the home service area I had no signal at all until I reboot the phone.
Due to buisiness I am going to be in that area a lot and really need my phone to work.

I live in Maine, and this is a valuable feature when we travel inland. Has always worked flawlessly on BB, MT3G and HD2. My boyfriend's Vibrant picks up ATT and Unicel without issue. Unfortunately, I was unable to connect to another network (voice and data were nil) on the stock rom, and I had to go airplane mode to get signal back when I knew I was back in the TMo area. Haven't tried it on CM yet, but pisses me off to no end that a Vibrant gets better signal and service than my G2. (And that a necessary service for our area doesn't work as it should)

I have been having substantial problems with my Spring GS4 connecting to mobile networks. I am in an area where I should have LTE, but most of the time my device constantly switches between 1xRTT and eHRPD (and NO network connection). Occasionally it will connect to the mobile networks 3G on 1X and 4G on LTE, but that usually requires restarting the device/ turning on/off airplane mode.
Any thoughts that you have would be greatly appreciated. I am happy to supply additional information upon request.
When you say 'should' have lte, do you mean Sprint had officially announced lte live in your area?
If not it's likely your issues are associated with lte deployment and are fairly common until upgrades are finished.
If so, if try prl and profile update

My area has an active LTE tower. I sometimes do connect, but soon after it goes back to no data.
I have tried a prl and profile update, although I will try again right now
Update: I did a prl update, but the profile didn't work (my device won't stay connected long enough for it to finish. Multiple attempts)

So what do you mean there is 1 tower in your area that has LTE? If that's the case it will be a while to get a consistent stable LTE connection because they would be doing NV upgrades in your area. And how far are you exactly from the tower that has LTE. It is probably just out of range or can't penetrate the walls or something. You should probably just go to s4gru.com and find your market thread and read. Also are you on a custom ROM. We can't really help without more info.

try a ##72786# reset(may need msl/spc) to reprovision your data profiles. I'd suggest being on wifi before you do this so that the profiles update over wifi after the reset. Do your PRL update over wifi as well.
It's possible that Sprint is in an upgrade phase which is causing issues. Here in philly we have many LTE towers yet my connection with eHRPD/LTE SUCKS!!! I know what bad is... this is worse than that.
You can get around this(YMMV) by setting the mobile network to cdma(cdma/evdo) instead of cdma/lte(cdma/evdo/lte) in settings. Doing this will make your phone ignore eHRPD/LTE and just stay on EVDO.
I read that ##72786# really screws up this phone on another thread
OP If you have NV upgrades going on in your area, give up on depending on your phone. I had to switch to Google voice just so I could find out if someone tried calling me because I would miss everyone's calls in addition to having almost no Internet.

Thanks for the replies u guys. Im guessing that in my case its an upgrade phase. I still get connections all over but it switches back to EVDO all the time. Ill keep u guys updated.

2 Devices. One seems to connect to LTE better than the other. Same Place, Same Tower. One is stuck on 3g (or worse) as you detail above while the other is solid 4g. Data on/off cycle doesn't help. I was using RF Signal tracker to see tower, and network information. I have also had many dropped calls, as well as Bluetooth troubles.
Hi
I have rooted RAZR M with the bootloader unlocked currently running Carbon ROM. I just moved to New Zealand and I thought I would be able to use this phone on Vodafone's GSM network. So, I got a prepaid plan and popped the SIM card in. I switched the network to GSM only (I've also tried GSM/WCDMA and maybe another option).
Vodafone NZ shows up in the status bar toggle with zero bars. I haven't tried calling anyone besides Vodafone's 777 number so I'm not sure if that actually works. I can't seem to get data or send texts (except receiving texts from vodafone). So how do I get data to work? I've seen online that people select GSM/UMTS for network mode. That isn't an option though. Should I install another ROM so I can select UMTS? Do I need to use Radiocomm? Thanks in advance!
OK...
First, do this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166542
It may not be required, but it's not a bad idea and won't hurt anything. Most likely, that's the cause of the lack of signal. That won't get you all the way there though.
Next, you need to enable GSM options (commonly called a "gsm fix" ) so you can set the APNs required for MMS and data. There's discussion on that on the Carbon thread, look back a few pages.
If neither of those works, it's possible you happen to live in a location outside the VZW RAZR M's band. If that's the case, you are unfortunately SOL

I didn't do the radiocomm thing but I flashed the gsm fix. now I have 5 bars and I can send texts but still no data. I was under the impression that radiocomm was only necessary to use US GSM carriers.

Sweet! Good to know it worked!
FWIW, it's probably a better idea to build your own GSM fix from the RC2 build.prop... The flashable one is using a very old build.prop that may cause issues - in fact that's probably why carbon didn't work. I know there's a post in the CM10.1 thread about it...
You don't need to, but if you start getting odd bugs, that might be the cause...
Speaking of which, I probably should make a tutorial on that...
And yes, radiocomm is usually required for US only, but some countries use the same GSM bands (I think... Not exactly a gsm expert so I may be completely wrong here...) and they need it to get data. Since you have it though, looks like you're good to go!

I Have a brand new SIM from WIND mobile in Ontario that came in another phone. I have this Nexus 4 kicking around so I popped in the WIND sim, but it does not connect. When I go to search for mobile networks in settings, it finds all the non AWS carriers (including the 'WIND away' network) but does not show Wind 3G (this is what the correct network lists as on my phone supplied by them). I have played around a bit in the *#*#4636#*#* menu, but nothing seems to make it work. Is the AWS band disabled in some Nexus 4s, and is there a way to enable it?
Welcome to XDA
Okay, first of all to avoid duplicate threads please use the search function of XDA to find your answer, or do a little Googling...
Anyways to answer you question, the AWS band of the Nexus 4 is disabled by Google to lower costs. That may sound crazy, but the story goes something like this:
If you didn't already know, The Nexus 4 is based off of the LG Optimus G, and has a lot of the same insides...
The same board was used for the nexus 4 and Optimus G, and on some of the G models they had LTE on band 4 and 17.
The nexus 4 never went through the FCC for LTE so Google disabled it because it wasn't worth the trouble of supporting 1 band.
Now, your answer: Depending on the Android Version, it maybe as simple as tinkering with the Info menu you were in. (4.2.1)
Newer versions were harder to enable LTE
You need to figure out what you need to do depending on the newer version.
You may need something as simple as an older radio
You might need to unlock your phone's boot loader, (which requires a factory reset), or maybe even have to flash a custom recovery (like CWM or TWRP) and custom rom.
It would really help I knew more info about the device likel what Android version,if its rooted, or has an unlocked bootloader, etc.
If you don't know what any of this means DON'T WORRY, there is an entire community of people willing to help
Sorry I should have gone into more detail. I have done the various tricks to try to enable LTE, but is that the same as enabling the AWS network? I was under the impression from the WIND folks that the Nexus4 worked for them stock.
As for the firmware version, I have tried on 4.2, 4.2.2, KitKat (4.4 I think?). I have tried after flashing the stock roms of each of these versions as well as after rooting. I have also tried flashing different radio versions to no success.
I should also mention that under the "4636" menus I have tried to click "select radio band" from the menu, but this just crashes the process and goes back to the first menu.
So does no LTE mean no AWS?
Hmmm...
First of all, NEVER click Select Radio Band, like you said, it crashes both the menu and resets your connection. Bug? Unfinished feature? No one knows.
You are supposed to click on GSM/LTE button instead of WCDMA preferred.
If that sticks then you might be done on (4.2.1)
If on higher version, then get the older .33 or .27 radio or a hybrid radio
AWS is the band the nexus 4 has unofficial support for, so its actually the opposite:
No AWS=No LTE
So try getting 4.2.1 via factory images and try getting that working okay (WCDMA→GSM/LTE)?
If not then tell me
How about 4.2 (JOP40C)? I have that currently but I can go back and get 4.2.1 if necessary.
And just to put the AWS/LTE bit to rest, can I have (on this or any other phone) AWS without LTE, or are they synonymous?
I am playing with it right now without the sim becaue it is busy in the other phone. When I switch to GSM/LTE AUTO, I find AT&T as well as the big three Canadian networks, but still don't see WIND. I did not see the AT&T on WCDMA, but its spotty near the border here anyways.

Sorry for the late reply but,
In 4.2 all you have to do is switch to GSM/LTE and switch to correct APN's in the phone settings
You can AWS on 3G as far as I know but it won't make a difference...
The only reason we are using AWS band for LTE is because its the only one the Nexus 4 can see.
As for the last paragraph what do you mean you cant see WIND? What do you mean by "seeing"?
Can you clarify?

Could you try this small app (should trigger the radio band select menu) to see what options do you have?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mangelow.network
For the Wind Mobile AWS, you will need the WCDMA option. This is what Wind Mobile use, not LTE.
If you will be able to select the WCDMA option and still no Wind 3G/HSPA, then we will tinker with the APN settings.

By 'seeing' I mean when I go to the network selection / search function in settings. When I click to search for network providers, I do not see WIND3G as an option (or any WIND branded network). On the phone they provided me, when I search for networks I have several options that are labelled as WIND. If I recall correctly, I think I have about 12 choices between various providers, whereas with the Nexus 4 I just show three selections.
@DupleX01, Thanks. I will give that a shot when I get a few minutes to play with this at home. It has been a couple of weeks since I have worked with the Nexus.

It's a slow day at work, so I am back on this. I have tried setting the radio to WCDMA only, but this does not make a difference. The only network I can see with the SIM in is "WIND away", which I believe is Rogers. So I am on roaming. Should I flash a different radio to the phone? Anybody got suggestions on which radio is the best version for use on WIND?
With the SIM in, the APN settings are already correct for WIND, but I am not finding their network.
Also just for kicks I flashed kitkat (stock) again, including the radio that comes with the ZIP. No changes in network availability.. Gonna leave it on this for now unless someone suggests that it might be better to revert to 4.2.1 or another version.

Based on your findings, I would say everything is alright on hardware side (APN is good, radio ok for WCDMA). So, it could be a glitch with Wind micro sim card. Still bonded to the previous phone IMEI what not. Make sure you now the serial of the micro sim, your imei of the new phone and give them (Wind Mobile tech support) a call.

Edit: Problem has been resolved. See thread linked below in this first post.
Original Post:
Please confirm whether or not 3G data works on your MXPE and report which carrier you are using. If an MVNO, please
report the network affiliation.
I am using Ting on Sprint network and my 3G data does not work.
I described the problem In this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-x-style/help/3g-data-t3233752
I'm working with Ting and Motorola to troubleshoot the problem. I am aware of 3 phones counting mine that do not get 3G data. Trying to ascertain whether this is a fairly isolated problem, if all MXPE phones have the issue, if this is a Sprint issue, or if it is a Ting or other MVNO issue on Sprint.
To summarize: Voice, text, LTE and 1X data all work. 3G data does not work although twice I was able to get it to work for less than 1 minute. It makes no difference if I am in an LTE area or not. SignalCheck Pro mostly reports the 3G data connection as "unregistered" although sometimes it reports it as "inactive". A SIM swap from a Sprint SIM to a Ting SIM made no difference (exact same part number). Various factory resets and carrier wipes also made no difference.
Another symptom is that my phone will not activate unless I have a Wi-Fi connection. Apparently the 3G data connection is needed to properly activate the phone.
Thanks much,
DC
Yes, on Verizon
I'm on Sprint, and when I'm in a low signal area (home), my 3G cycles on and off constantly. I came from a 2013 Moto X and did NOT have this issue. If Marshmallow update doesn't fix it, I will likely sell it and go Nexus 5x.

Al three, LTE, 3G and 2G work on AT&T.
Looks like I am not alone here.
Mine is Moto X Pure Edition 32GB from Amazon.
I am in Singapore using Starhub.
I have LTE/4G or 3G, but it is like on and off.
Especially when I am on the train and the train goes underground, mostly i am not connected to internet.
It may show LTE or H, when I load FB, it will show me loading icon. That's it.
Hopefully this is a software bug.
It really pissed me off since my old phone Xperia Z Ultra has no issue at all in that area.
Anyone find anyway to fix it?
Thanks.
Thanks for the help. I also posted this request on a couple of other forums and even though the response was limited, there does not appear to be an issue with Sprint which leaves my phone or Ting as the problem.

It works fine for me I'm on T-Mobile. Have you tried going into the settings and searching for cellular network? Because I had a strange issue where my LTE wasn't coming on. I'll post a screen shot of what I'm talking about.
This is in the settings where it says more.
As soon as I push cellular network it starts to scan then a list of providers pop up then I select my provider.

Turning off LTE in mobile network setting. That solve my problem for me. Personally I like to control network mobile manually. My old phone used to be completely manual means I can force my old phone to connect U.S. Cellular(3G) or Verizon(3G) while im in the 1x area.

Yes, I'm very familiar with that menu but it must be different for CDMA carriers. I get a new menu after choosing cellular network and one of the options (Preferred Network Type) is where I can choose LTE, 3G, 1X or Global. Makes no difference which I choose, 3G still doesn't work.
I've returned the phone to Motorola for a replacement.

The new phone did not fix the issue. Still no 3G data. What carrier are you with? So far, other than a couple of overseas users, the only people I've found with the problem were customers of a Sprint MVNO.
Since I sent the first MXPE back, I've acquired an Airave because the Sprint signals at my house are a bit weak. Strange thing is that I do get 3G data when connected to the Airave but nowhere else.
DC
Update. After two Moto X PE phones, numerous factory resets, much research and testing, there is now a work around to this problem. The problem does not appear to impact any phones on the big 4 networks. It only impacts phones on a Sprint MVNO.
Thanks to all who participated in this thread.
There are now known eHRPD issues with Sprint and their MVNOs. The work around solution is to disable eHRPD. Sprint is working on changes to eHRPD that may resolve the issue permanently. Thanks to Ting for their persistence in helping get to the bottom of this problem.
