Insurance replacing Note 3's with 4's - AT&T Galaxy Note 3 General

I have yet to leave the N3 as there's no root for the 4. However, a few of my friends with Note 3s have gotten insurance replacements in the past few months. All of them have received Note 4's as their Note 3's are "Outdated".
Also, they all seem to have been cut a break and only had to pay $100 deductible if it was a first claim.
Not that I'm encouraging purposely breaking your Note 3 or anything of the sort... I'm just sayin...

I assume you're talking about the AT&T insurance? Since they're offering open enrollment thru 3/31, I'm VERY tempted to enroll, since my GPS is now COMPLETELY failed, and I rely pretty heavily on it. Definitely worth paying the deductible if they truly are replacing with Note 4's.

Typically, we'll try to replace with a like-for-like device. If that model is unavailable at the time of the claim then we may send a comparable model. In some cases this could mean a newer phone. However, typically we'll replace with the same make and model.

We got ours replaced about two weeks ago through AT&T and received the same phone in return.

Note 3 dropped stopped working - warranty case?

For sale is not working note 3, minamal signs of usage on corners. Seller says that the phone has stopped working after being dropped by kid.
What do i think. Since it has got warranty, what if i take it to the samsung warranty center?
I have already had positive experience with hard bricked note 1, they just replaced motherboard in a few days.
So is it worth the risk?
One con of this phone that it was already taken to the service (not really qualified) and they said they don't know how to fix it lol :silly: But also they probably tried to disassemble it.. And since they are not so good at fixing this kind of phones they could mess up something. Or just remove warranty void stickers. And yeah, maybe you could find me pictures of them?
BTW this phone is twice cheaper than than the used screen for note 3 So in worst scenario i can sell it for parts

[Q] broken screen

A 2 year old grabbed my phone and well now my Note 3 has a very bad shattered screen.
Are those cell phone repair places any good w/ the Note 3 or should I just pay the $100 deductible for insurance and get another phone?

Pay asurion. I know someone who claimed their broken phone as stolen, so got to keep and sell the broken phone for I think 250 at the time, and get a new phone.
Well I submitted a claim and they are out of stock for the Note 3 White and they have it on backorder... how nice

That's what we call insurance fraud.
Got my new Note 3 today. NC4 4.4.2 and had to root it right away. I have HyperDrive on it now and loving it. This actually seems faster than my old Note 3 that got shattered.

Galaxy S4 Screen breakage - Should I avoid the S4?

I was planning on buying an unlocked S4 (for $379, Instead of going with AT&T NEXT installment plan and paying more over 24 months)
However I read about all the screen/glass cracking issues. Is a risk even if I put a good screen protector & case like otter-box commuter?
The store B&H also offers Squaretrade drop & spill warrant for $49 with $50 deductible. But if breakage is a very common issue, I don't want to buy the S4.
(Also what other phones comparable to the S4 would y'all recommend. For use on AT&T). Only android and should have a good camera.

never heard of this issue as s4 comes with corning gorilla glass 3 just google it and you will know how strong and worth it is.
And btw s4 is a pretty nice phone you can go ahead with buying it.

The Screen of my S4 only broke once and trust me, every other phone's Screen would've cracked in the same situation mine got destroyed. What I want to add is: After replacing the cracked screen by myself I'm even more amazed by the S4. If your screen cracks you can buy a new one and replace the screen by yourself. It is super easy.

Verizon Insurance Trick

First let me say this wasn't intentional. I had a note 4 that I purchased from Craigslist about 2 months ago. Recently, the screen stopped turning on. Its a long story but the warranty was voided. Since I needed a phone, I added a line and got an S6 intending to just pay the ETF on the new line and cancel it. So I put the note 4 on the new line and put the S6 on my primary line. When I called to add insurance, the rep put the insurance on the new line which has the note 4. Did I just luck out and can I file a claim and get this note 4 replaced?
I just didn't understood what you said (my bad english)... the only thing I know is that "Craiglist" is not a good page to buy high end phones like the Note 4. All I heard about people who bought phones via that page were complains about chinese clones, dummies (fake phones for showcase) or, like you, phones that suddenly stopped working. I just bought mine in amazon. A friend of mine travelled to NYC and recived the package. Zero Problems.

Nexus 6P Square trade, Asurion, Looking for advice from anyone that has made claims.

So I have read a ton of conflicting information on insurance for the Nexus 6p ( only looking at Square Trade and Asurion not Nexus Protect)
So here are my questions if anyone that has actually made a claim with Asurion or Square Trade (most interested in Square trade at this point) please let me know, thanks!!
1- If a claim is made with Square trade and the phone is not repairable, do they have Nexus 6p's as replacements? Or is it going to be like Asurion where they will send you a "like" device?
2- If the phone is repairable through Square trade, do they support repairs for this device? Or will they just send me a monetary value?
3- Is it confirmed that Asurion will in fact drop your insurance (Verizon) if you activate the Nexus 6p on your line? (I have not activated it on Verizon yet, using google fi right now, I know they have a protection plan but I will be using this plan only when I run out of minutes on Verizon line, grandfathered in so not going to be able to use google fi insurance either)
I have Asurion on my line, I want to purchase Square Trade for my Nexus 6P since Asurion will not replace it if necessary but I want to make sure that Square Trade will fix my device if I need it to be fixed or replace with a Nexus 6P. Thanks everyone!!
(Nexus Protect is not an option for me, I purchased on Swappa but since I have Asurion I can submit for Square Trade)
The one time I ever had to use my SquareTrade warranties they actually gifted me the money to buy a new item. This was not for a phone so that may be different.
I have had both and have filed. Claims through both. For both my Nexus 5 and my Nexus 6 I was either able to send the phone in for repair or fix locally and send in the reciept for a full refund of the price of the repairs. In the case of the Nexus 6 screen I had to send it in due to the screen being so new that my local repair shop couldn't get a screen in stock. (Ran over by several cars). Square trade ended up sending me another phone as mine wasn't repairable. My Nexus 5 was also sent to Square trade and was sent back a new phone as the board where the charging port connected to was damaged along with a bad screen. Both times phones had custom RoMs on them and yet they were totally painless experiences and I would highly recommend them. I went with Nexus protect on my 6P and I am hoping I didn't make a mistake doing so. I can't answer the Asurion question as the times I have had Asurion, I was insuring phones purchased through my provider.

It should be noted that both phones were refurbished units however all the phones you get from Asurion will also be refurbished units so if this is a issue then you might want to research other options. I personally have only had one issue out of 8 refurbished phones so I'm not one to complain like many users.

I actually work for Verizon and I can confirm that Asurion sends refurbished devices. It's a fairly simple process. However, Verizon's policy towards non-Verizon devices is that the insurance would not cover it. The device has to be purchased from Verizon or an authorized retailer. One other thing is that when you switch over the device (usually by switching the sim card from another device) the insurance would stay on your line and you would continue to be billed for it (Seriously -_-). So you would have to take it off of your line either by calling, stopping into a store, or by going into your My Verizon account and managing the features on your line.
One other thing to note is that once you remove the insurance from your line, you cannot add it back unless it's an open enrollment period and you meet the requirements or you purchase a new device on that line.

That is my overall goal in this situation, I just want to keep asurion and get square trade for the Nexus 6p as Asurion does not cover it. Thanks!!!

Hmm.
I have bought devices from third parties and they were covered for warranty and theft.
I've filed both types of claims on devices that I ddid not buy from Verizon.
Could be that since they were Verizon branded, it didn't matter.

Well I did report my Note 5 (1.5 month old) to Asurion and they sent me a brand new phone. There was no refurb at the time.

That should work. I don't want to guarantee anything as far as the Note 5 but as long as that device is the active device on your line at the time of the claim. Asurion's website might not let you make a claim if you just switch over the device (I've never tried it so I couldn't tell you) so you might just have to call insead.

Like you said, those devices would have been Verizon branded. In this case the Nexus 6p isn't Verizon branded. It's technically not even certified to work with Verizon's network by Verizon...

With Asurion it seems like it's hit or miss with whether or not it's a new phone or a refurb. I've seen both ways. It also depends on how new to the market the phone you're claiming is. For example, my mom dropped her brand new iPhone 6S in the toilet the day after she got it (*facepalm* -_-, it's actually quite a funny story tbh) and Asurion sent a brand new phone still in the original packaging because at this point the 6S had only been out for a month or something like that when she got it so Asurion hadn't had any refubs to send out.

The only way that I know how to do this is if you have asurion on your line already.
Some say they will drop you, some say they won't so I don't know for sure as I have not gone ahead with the Square Trade warranty yet, (waiting to see if I can find a coupon code or a sale).
What I did since I have coverage on my line was requested a letter from Asurion stating that I am covered for my line (asurion covers the line so whatever device you have on there is what is covered at the time, that's what they told me). My plan is when I am ready to use Squaretrade to submit my coverage letter to them and let them know what my phone has current coverage. I have put my sim in the Nexus 6P and I switch between phones. As per one of the last comments, I would have to call Asurion to cancel my coverage, (which I don't want to do because I want to keep it for my other phone on my line.). When I looked at my plan, I saw that coverage was till there however, I mainly use my note 5 so that is the phone that is more often on the line. So now I just have to work on the Square Trade side of this so I can get coverage for my Nexus 6P as Asurion does not cover this device. I did speak with Squretrade about this and they said that a letter showing proof of insurance from your insurance company is valid which is what I got from Asurion.

I’m not sure if this applies to me then. I’m on T-Mobile and don’t purchase insurance. I did purchase Square trade for my note 4 but it was new from T-Mobile. I emailed them just in case but not sure if they cover used devices. Anyone know if they cover new devices sold on Swappa? Would I just send the PayPal Invoice? From the contract from my note 4 I got this extract so wondering if they do covered used devices. Hopefully I wouldn’t have to wait and use the manufacturer warranty before I could use SquareTrade.
Excerpt: HOW LONG OUR COVERAGE LASTS:
• If your item is NEW, this Protection Plan begins on the day you purchased the item, and lasts for the number of years you chose at purchase time.
• If your item is USED/REFURBISHED, this Protection Plan begins on the 31st day after your item purchase or after your manufacturer's warranty expires, whichever is longer. The agreement also lasts for the number of years you chose at purchase time.

You can normally get them from someone that has Squaretrade.
