XT1095 (Pure Edition) future updates - X 2014 General

Supposedly the Pure Edition of the Moto X gets the updates earlier, and we're seeing other versions of the Moto X gets 5.0.2 and we're still in 5.0. Does anybody have some news on a new update? A soak test of 5.1 would be awesome now.
I started this thread because there's no other thread of this particular situation.
Sorry for my english.

I'm still on 4.4.4 be patient

I'm also on 5.0 isnt 5.1 already out?

I think that they are waiting for 5.1 release as it will come in March.

I hope so! Maybe we can use this thread to comment this!

I keep getting notifications about the lollipop update(I'm on 4.4.4) on my phone I got a few days ago, going to root it in the next couple of days so I can stop the notifications.
I'm not touching lollipop until the problems are sorted out plus I hate the WiFi and signal icons in lollipop.

I like the new icons, but the RAM management it's getting kind of annoying.

Just force stop Moto OTA in apps. Gets rid of that notification until you reboot the device.

I agree. That and the horrible battery life associated with the way Lollipop currently is.

Uhhhhh, problems with 5.0? I don't get it. I've been running 5.0 since I got this thing, 2 weeks now, and its been amazing. Coming from a 2013 X, this thing flies. No ram issues that I have seen. Battery life, same as 2013 X for me, actually a little better with over 10hrs on Bluetooth headset. But then I was running Xposed so that might have caused some issues with my Old X.

The battery life could be better. The RAM management causes that some apps -like the launcher- keeps closing while you're using other apps.

The battery life is about what I expected for a screen the size it is with such a small battery, a decent improvement over my smaller N5 with same size battery, albeit over a year old. As for memory management, I had occasional launcher redraws and apps not staying in memory when when N5 updated to lollipop, but have not experienced this at all on my Moto X. I also essentially started fresh on 5.0, powered my moto x up, went through setup, updated immediately to lollipop, and went ahead and did a factory reset. So maybe the fact my phone wasn't used on KitKat at all before updating saved me some problems, don't know. All I know is I don't have memory issues, had my phone a little over 2 weeks now, and today was the first reboot (to apply a screen protector) I've done since day 1.

I agree with you, Battery life is ok and memory management also is ok, I also used my phone with Lollipop directly.
Battery performance was enhanced after checking which apps caused high battery drain and disabled it.

Thanks for the tip, I don't reboot my phone very often so it is perfect for me.
Next thing for me is to unlock the bootloader and root for exposed, really liking this phone more every day although I have had it less than a week yet.

The first update released was 5.0 for pure edition. Then Motorola's developers went to work on bringing the update to other variants, and by that time 5.0.1 and 5.0.2 came out. Now that they're working on the xt1095 again, they'll be pushing the 5.1 update.
Basically, they're not going to halt all progress on bringing other updates just to keep pure edition on the cutting edge. It got the first spot on line, but once they finalized its 5.0 release it had to wait for its next turn in line. Also, it doesn't make sense to release a 5.0 update for the others when 5.0.1 exists just to make pure edition owners feel special about being the most up to date.
Full disclosure: I have the pure edition.

RAM issue is a major problem! This phone won't allow you to drop below 450MB free of RAM i've noticed since going to lollipop. Quite an issue causing constant reloading of apps. the opposite really of whats supposed to happen with android. Its really making the CPU work a lot harder more often to completely reopen apps. With KitKat, never had this issue. Everything stayed in RAM and used no where near this amount actually, i typically had 750-800 free., but even if i dropped to 200 free it wasn't exiting apps and causing everything to reload. And its not like i've installed any new apps since.
Lets not even get me started on battery life as thats horrendous since going to lollipop.

I mean, I don't have a source, I figured that's what makes sense. It would be unreasonable to expect Motorola to not update ANYTHING until the Pure Edition is up to date, and it also doesn't make sense for them to push an update that's outdated on release.
Motorola promised "fast" updates for the Pure Edition but it's not the only job their developers have. It was indeed the first they updated, but they also have to update the rest of their lineup, and they can't leave everyone on KitKat while continuing to give exclusive updates to the xt1095.

Considering how small of changes they'd have to do for all the other devices, I really don't think it's unreasonable to expect the pure edition to always get the updates first though and then the others. Really, you can install the pure editions software on other devices without issues other than the radio.

Some small comfort in regards to 5.0

So I like many of you have been jonesing for some sweet lollipop action. It's frustrating to have a top end device and to have to wait. But for those of you who have not had the opportunity to play with lollipop let me just tell you, it ain't ready for prime time. I was excited to get it on my nvidia shield tablet, and in the end unlocked the bootloader and went backt to 4.2 because it was so buggy. I know the user experience varies some from device to device, and the new features are cool. But it will be much better to get our droids updated with a solid release, esp. since we won't have the option to turn back the clock with our locked boot loaders. I know it's not what most want to hear, but It's made me a lot more patient with regards to our Turbos getting updated.

I keep seeing people saying things like this. I came from a nexus 5 with lollipop and never had any issues. 5.0 is a stable release. What was "buggy" for you?
For the nvidia shield, it just dogged down the tablet. Chrome froze often in browsing situations, FB had a major memory leak problem, and as a whole the tablet just slowed down and began to hang frequently. I factory reset after the OTA and was running totally stock and it down graded the user experience significantly. Many others reported very similar experiences on that device. I just read today they've released a 5.0.1 update, so I'm definately going to watch that closely because lollipop is definately cool. Esp. the smart lock, screen pinning, and new material design look. But it is all pretty useless if it dogs your hardware. I'm sure they will get it fixed, but all I'm saying is I'd rather have it running right on the turbo, than running like it was on the nvidia shield, esp. since our turbos are locked down and their is no way going back.
Nvidia shield has an Nvidia processor, this is the problem
I put lolliop on my nexus 7(2012) and i was amazed at the improvrment. Seemed like it freed up memory and it was buttery snooth. My only complant would be the white backgrounds and keyboards. Haven't seen it on phone yet. Can't wait
I also saw a lot of bugs on both a moto g 2014 and the nexus 6. There are always people who do not have the same experiences, but for me it was nowhere near what I consider stable.
Still no issues on the 2013 nexus 7 or 1st gen moto g. I also don't see the point of these "keep calm" threads. It's about as useful as the "unlock our bootloader" threads

Garbage NAND, a known issue slightly patched. That was the curse of the 2012 N7.

Can we talk about how crappy lollipop's memory management is

I love everything about lollipop except one thing, the memory manager. it's way too aggressive and is keeping way too much memory free. i'm getting constant home screen redraws, app closures (especially music related apps).
on 4.4.4 i was seeing about 200mb of free memory which seemed to work just fine. lollipop is keeping no less then 500mb free!!! why did they set the free memory so high? it's closing apps to free up memory that's never getting used!!
Is this a google problem or is this something motorola messed up?
I agree, not sure what Motorola was thinking(or possibly google) but when I unlock my phone and get a black screen for a second before it redraws the home screen I'm not too impressed. It doesn't always happen though and so far I can't pin down what might be causing it.
It's Google's fault. They botched up RAM management. However, I read that the supposed upcoming 5.0.2 update for this device has it fixed

It's google. Lollipop sucks no matter what device it's on.
It honestly drove me so ****ing insane I sold my Moto X and bought an iPhone after buying every Nexus since the Nexus One. 5.0 is hot garbage, and the only phone that got a timely fix was the Nexus 6, and I don't want a phone that large.
Yup. I have a verizon moto x and right now its the worst phone I've ever owned because of this lollipop nonsense. Its a laggy mess, constant redraws, i can't listen to podcasts while doing anything else because it'll kill playback. I'm praying for root, otherwise I may have to just sell the phone. So disappointing.

It is Lollipop 5.0. I have noticed it mainly with an app called Javelin, it is a browser that has a bubble that hovers and collects all the links you open in other apps. The bubble constantly closes after little time. This did not happen at all on my Nexus 4 with 5.0.2. So I guess it is a bug and Im hoping they have fixed it by that version.

Do you mind linking to your source, I'd like to read about the changes
I read a post by a Moto employee on G+ which stated their new builds of 5.0.2 include the memory management bug fix so no need to wait for 5.1, as soon as 5.0.2 rolls out the memory issues should be resolved. I don't have a link to the post but it was deep in his thread stating that the 5.0.2 OTA was in soak testing and to begin deployment "soon".
I only want the memory management to stop killing the attentive display after a few days, requiring a reboot to properly work again.
Just thought I'd post my agreement with what a nightmare LP is on this device. Great hardware, but as audio won't play for more than a few minutes without stopping, I rarely use the phone.

Wow 5.0.2 in test? I have been looking for ANYTHING related to that and nothing came up at all. Memory management for 5.0 is crap indeed but I did see that 5.0.2 had it minimized (not properly fixed). Not perfect but better than it is right now. I did take some basic precautions, such as not installing the most memory hungry ones (looking at you facebook and twitter) and have been ablw to live with it so far

Working great so far for me. Had a little bit of lag that went away as soon as I did a factory days reset. Can't comment on standby battery life since I have been pounding this thing all day. But → now I am at 41% with 4 hours and 23 minutes of screen time.
I do have an issue with Nokia's Here navigation app, but it may be that it is not lollipop compatible. Have not dug around to see if that is the case.
All in all, this is a very solid release, and I will probably stick with it. At least until custom roms start coming out for moto maxx.
Any camera improvements?

Am i having one of them, whatchamacallit, placebo effect, or has the bluetooth streaming quality improved.?
I think my music sounds better.

Edit:
Bluetooth music streaming seems to drop or pause for a second every few minutes
Edit 2:
Turning bluetooth off and then back on seems to have solved the issue so far.
it take it 4% in one night in stanby
battery seems the same to me.
have some lags and some freezing too for 30 seconds -1 minute
hope Moto will solve this problems

I did a factory data reset after installing. That took care mostly of the lag, but i keep having bluetooth issues.
Sometimes streaming music pauses on my Bluetooth music speaker, and it drops the connection on my stereo
headset. Things that do not happen with my older phones.
In all fairness, it could be because of the hybrid Brazil/Puerto Rico thing, but honestly, I don't think so as I was already having
Bluetooth issues before. Plus, everything else is working great. Signal is rock solid and I get LTE with no problems at all.
May have a defective phone.

I haven't found any bug. I see volumen calls, screen brigthness, battery life improvement.
Everything runs smooth. Now i see the diference between my droid maxx and this.
47hrs.
some bugs i've noticed so far:
Sometimes when connected on a wifi network, disconnects and reconnects again, this didnt happen on kitkat, happens randomly
When listening to google play music and then receive a notification the music doesn't resume again, you have to click pause and play to resume to playing the song.
My impressions are great!! I did a full convert to BRZ firmware from PR Moto Maxx flashed every file, full wiped in fastboot, then did the OTA zip. So far it has been amazing, specially smoothness and battery life!!
Of course, im rooted and running Greenify, plus froze unnecessary stuff. (I dont use none of the moto stuff)
If you upgraded and having performance issue with stuttering and lags, I highly recommend performing a factory reset. I did mine through recovery and wiped Data & Cache.
That made a massive difference.
I have an wifi issue, it's not turning on at all. On 4.4 it's working fine, even on BR firmware (my phone is PR). Is Anybody met this?

When you say "flashed every file" do you mean just the system image files in the OP of the lollipop install thread or do you literally mean every file (I.e. bootloader, radio, etc)? I've been wanting to go this route of converting my PR Maxx to Brazilian retail 100% as well by flashing all the files.

Looks like an update is rolling out right now, dated today the 13th....still 5.0.2 unfortunately
Yup - installing right now. Still 5.0.2 ..
Installing right now
After the update try to clear all all opening apps, you will mention that it's without any lag or stutter

I am not sure if it is just me - but at least this part is NOT fixed. clearing open apps still has the same stutter that it had before. I restored the animation scale back to 1x and that has not changed anything. Maybe that is how it is supposed to be.
The app launching appears to have improved *slightly* . Whether double tap is more reliable remains to be seen. The update did not reset my launcher setting i.e. it did not revert to the stock launcher .
Overall - so far , I am not seeing anything worth getting too excited about - Not so far at least.
BTW - just to confirm - I now have Android version = 5.0.2 Kernel version = 3.10.49 Build number = 7SQR-UER0

Same here, not too much difference noted with this update. Anyone know if Alcatel includes a changelog someplace with these updates?
I feel differently. This update, so far, is great. The lag I had previously is nearly gone and installing apps is much much faster. DTTW has worked everytime (only tried about 7-8 times so far) unlike previously when it hardly ever worked. I don't notice anything different on the camera but I've only played with it for a short period. I've not used this phone as a daily driver since I got it in May because of the user experience, it just lagged and I hate lag - especially compared to my LG G2. Today however, I put my sim card in and will give it a true test, being the daily driver.
I was going to return it initially but held onto it waiting for an update and glad I did. I simply couldn't understand why this phone was not at least as fast (or faster) than my LG G Pro Or HTC One M7 since both of them are running the Snapdragon 600 (vs 615) and slower GPU. Plus both are also running pretty heavy skins yet both were way faster/smoother than the Idol 3. It had to be software and optimization which seems to be what this update addresses. The screen and speakers on this phone are to die for and I'm glad it's now able to be used effectively. I may think differently in a day or so after a real world test but for now I'm excited about this little guy.
I just got the update this morning, and my initial reaction is pretty good. The phone just feels snappier overall. The notification shade seems to come down very smooth all the time now. Previously, when the keyboard was open, the notification shade would drop a lot of frames when you pulled it down. The camera seems to be doing a better job of getting the correct point of focus too. Also, double tap to wake actually works now! This is huge for me because it only worked about once out of ten tries for me before. I'm happy.
Edit: I'm also seeing about 1.5GB of extra free storage. I wonder if the phone wasn't properly moving apps to the sd card before. I have about 12 games installed, and I have them all moved to the sd card.

Looks like you guys had the update we got last week in europe. It runs much better , cleaning apps doesn't lag anymore and everything runs smoother.
For the people still having problems can you confirm you're in 5.0.2-010 03 ?

No new updates to the Note3

So looks like the Note 3 wont get another update. For us ATT folks were stuck on 5.0.

Nothing new. Samsung and all other android phone makers have horrible records in keeping their phone updated. I can still run IOS 9.1 beta on my ipad2 which is two years old. Next phone will be either Motorola or Nexus.
Looks like it's off to the 6P I go in a couple months.
This does not rule out a pity update to 5.0.2 or 5.1.1 however.
That's okay. I wasn't too happy with Lollipop. I'll stick with Kit Kat.

How much time did you give Lollipop? The fist 3-4 days I hated it, battery life sucked and I was constantly chasing apps that were killing it. Now I absolutely love Lollipop...better battery life than KK, connects to "screen mirroring" and chromecast instantly, stable with fluid swipes, solid connections on BT, slightly better RF and voice on calls. I'll ride this out for a while until I have $$$ for another used phone.

Takes a couple of charging cycles to fully settle in. Quicker if you clean install, & have SQLite/fsTRIM set up properly.
There may be a 5.0.2 port with an OC1 base coming in a little while. Don't give up on LP just yet

It was more of the UI feel and a few things specific that I like about Kit Kat over Lollipop.
