unbelievable lag playing pocket fleet on lollipop - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I can't believe this phone can't handle a game like Pocket Fleet. It starts off ok, but after playing for a while it starts overheating and fps can go down to 10fps......10!!!
This is ridiculous, sorry I need to blow off steam. Wasted a lot of money on this phone, disappointed with Samsung, sold a lie.

Yes.. the snapdragon variant have this problem, no problems so far on N910C, i suggest you to try a exynos device...

So, will Samsung refund me or swap it for exynos? I'm totally gutted and fed up of having to find solutions for a piece of hyped up equipment that fails to deliver. Sorry, maybe I'll wake up tomorrow and feel better lol.

i don't think so lol, maybe you can try to go to a samsung store, test a exynos device, and it's more likely that you'll have to sell your device to buy the exynos variant... try to talk with a samsung saler or the waranty.. ask for your money back... idk, maybe works hehe

Did you install OTA or flashed via ODIN? In case you installed via OTA make factory reset.
At my N910C I installed via ODIN and before flashing I make wipe of data and cache from stock recovery.
Here all ok, device run perfectly.

Flash AEL Kernel , on 4.4.4 not on lollipop yes , you will , that lag will be gone had same problem with stock kernel , also you can try to lock and unlock your screen to remove that lag on game !

Did you factory reset or just upgrade from kitkat? You have to factory reset to get smoothest operation. That made a big difference for me.

Doing a factory reset does not fix the overheating when playing, which then throttles your game until it's unplayable. Everything on the surface seems to work ok, which is an illusion... play a game like Pocket Fleet and watch it deteriorate over time.

Most of games are perfectly playable in powersaving mode. Limited maximum cpu clock frequency in powersaving mode may prevent phone from overheating

You are joking? Thanks, but it doesn't work. And why the freaking *?!*#@* should I have to limit this supposed "monster" beast of a phone to make a simple game work? Any gamers out there who know what they're talking about, and found any solutions apart from adding a rom please? I'm rooted with stock freaking lollipop.
It must just be Monday morning. I may be OK tomorrow. Thanks.

Galaxy S4: top android or expensive stone?

Hello
Im a new owner of a Samsung galaxy S4 I9505. Im experiencing big problems in a game called Modern Combat 4, which has great graphics. Its often unplayable during multiplayer (and sometimes singleplayer) due to excessive fps drop. Naturally game is original, bought on play store, device not rooted and just booted... Why? Oo
I remember with my iphone 4s i could play Modern Combat 3 withouth any fps drop T_T
Thanks
This can perhaps be a software optimization issue. I have an ipad 3 which can play MC3 perfectly fine but MC4 is messed up with frame rate drops all the time. But then, any issues should have been fixed by now as the game has been out for like 9 months or so:what:

Are you familiar with overclocking, custom kernels, and custom roms if yes then thats what I would do, if no i wouldn't even step into that field with such powerful device.

thats the i9500 (octacore), i got the i9505 (quad core)
and btw single player lags just a bit, except in some really heavy parts like 1st mission, where you must attack a beach with so many enemies, water, boats, etc
real problem is multiplayer, which always lags a lot during gunfights T_T

The game is pretty graphic intensive. I ran it on my i9505 international version rooted running AOSP with stock kernel.
Frame rates is definitely lower than what I use before (Xperia S).
I have to use SetCPU to dial up the speed and it ran much better but heats up a lot.
My gut feeling tells me that it has something to do with the stock kernel.
I'll look into it later and let you know.

Especially you should try multiplayer: gunfights are pretty much unplayable imho... But fortunately I was very good with MC3 so I can kill... Sometimes
About singleplayer, it doesnt lag as much, it doesnt even lag often but, for example, in the beginning of first mission (during beach assault) i get some lag, not as much as multiplayer though

You can change the graphical setting of the game, you'll lose a lot of details but the game will be much smoother, there is an app to change the gameloft games graphical settings but I don't remember the name.

only modern combat 4 seems to be able to stress my device and give so bad performance, especially during multiplayer matches
Its Modern Combat 4 the problem not your phone... there is an actual problem in the game. it doesn't even play in 1080p anymore after the update. i've overclocked my phone like crazy and removed any thermal throttling. it still lags a lot in multiplayer. The same thing happened when i had my HTC One... I think it has to do with poor optimization for the snapdragon 600 because it doesn't seem to work well with any phone with that processor

Stuttering, lag on internet

Does anyone encounter any serious stuttering or lag when they are scrolling a page on the internet. If anyone has any tips on how to fix it than I'd greatly appreciate it. I'm up to date so I'm hoping there is a quick fix I can do.

Depending on the web page, it doesn't scroll as smoothly as an iPad if thats what you were hoping for. But this is the case I find with most android devices. Although, it has been reported that rooting the device and turning off, some of the Samsung Bloatware such as Knox applications, improves it significantly. I personally won't do that because I do like some of the samsung apps and don't want to mess up the tablet's S-Pen functionality, even though the rooting supposedly doesn't mess with that.
A friend of mine recently bought the wifi version and together with my lte variant we started doing some everyday performance comparisons.
One of the things we noted immediately was the stuttering when scrolling in the browser or when pulling down the notification bar. It was nonexistent in the wifi version , but the lte version (even though rooted and free of bloatware) was constantly stuttering. I just hope it was the effect of the performance updates the wifi version received, else I have to say the exynos is superior. What do I want with a snapdragon that can't even handle smooth scrolling..?

Thats surprising as I thought for sure the snapdragon would be superior. I have read the speed comparison tests and it gets better benchmarks than the wifi version. The only surprise down the road is the rumored patch that samsung is working on that will allow all eight cores to work simultaneously together which would make the enynos version faster.

My device is the wifi version. Yet still horrible choppiness, stuttering, lagging when I scroll. It is starting to feel like a game breaker to me which would be ashame because the S pen feature is the most wonderfully polished feature ever. I'm a student of course though.

I find it really curious though that with 3 gigs of ram and the type of processor this device has that it shouldn't be running as smoothly as the ipad. I mean spec wise this thing is a monster. To be honest, I believe this might be an issue with youtube. I noticed on my note 2014 that I'm only able to play 720p youtube videos. I've tried Tubemate as well as other 3rd party youtube apps that allow you to download videos and I never get any options above 720p quality. Why google/youtube would impose this restriction I have no idea.
The problem with this is that on a tablet with 2560x1600 resolution, content shot at 1280x720 resolution can look less than impressive. However, when you get a hold of quality 1080p content the screen is downright amazing.

I already think this tablet gets way too hot for doing normal stuff. I'm not touching octa even if somebody figures out how to hack it. It would probably melt my precious plastic leather.
I'll patiently wait for Samsung to optimize the software. I know this hardware is capable enough, damn it. It's a freaking pull down. That can't be that intensive as to bring a 1.9GHz quadcore to its knees unless somebody coded it wrong.
I think performance is decent enough for this tablet without the octa patch. That is once you tinker with it and optimize everything. My rooted, customized galaxy s3 runs smoother than the beast of a note sometimes. But anyway, that's the fun part.
As for lag or stutter, I do get it, but I think after rooting and cleaning up Samsung's touchwiz, it will get much better.

It wouldn't make it faster anyways....it would just increase battery life as the four cores that become available to you when you need high performance and have high cpu load is the slow, low speed, but power efficient chips. This is with the rumored patch of course. If you already have the a15 based chips all on and ruining at max freq then you will get nothing g, or next to nothing, from turning on 4 lower power ones.
It would be like driving a Ferrari 150mph down a race track and saying you are going to give yourself a speed boost by pushing with your feet....just ain't gonna happen
But in the case of the exynos, you will at least have the option of saving fuel (battery power) by pushing with your feet (using the low power cores) so it would be nice, but it's also been stated by mire than a few people, not sure how reliable these sources are but it's been said by mire than a couple sources, that there will be no patch for the note 3 or the note 10.1 2014 as this functionality will be savedfor a next generation device. Sad but also makes a little sense as these current devices are already basically top of the line and best I'm class, or at least right up there, as far as hardware specs go. Software may not be considered top notch by all but that isn't the point here as if these devices were patched or the functionality was released on the next generation, they both will still come with touch wiz software and thus the software part of it is a moot point. The point is, with or without this functionality, the people who would want to buy it are not concerned about it having touchwiz and thus they are getting the top end device either way. Why would Samsung push this generation device that much farther ahead when they still have a top end device and can save that "trick" for the next iteration....
/end rant

The octacore... which is used When?

Basically, I read in one of these threads (can't remember which now) that the higher speed cup is only used in gaming, and for everything else the 1.3 cup is used.
Now this sounded odd to me, as I know my original note 10.1 ramped up to full speed during various normal tasks (it was rooted so I could see these things lol).
Unfortunately I haven't rooted this one yet, I'm waiting for the knox issue to get resolved (or for a good rom to appear) so I can't look for myself, so I thought I'd ask you nice people...
When does the cpu speed ramp up to the full 1.9?
Is it only in games, or does it do it for browsing, gallery, photos, sketchbook pro, etc.
Not all apps require the extra power, but for some it's helpful. I was just curious I'm sure other are Too!
Thanks
the octa is never used all together basically but the high4 cores would go up to 1.9ghz when on a heavy task

I think the exynos change cpu when you need more power in interface or in game. i think the lags on exynos are when the cpu change.

It is, but it's not confirmed to be coming. When you buy a Samsung product don't expect much in the way of updates. You'll get a few firmware updates and the next version of Android. If you're looking for much more than that then you're risking very serious disappointment.

Well no, but if the update is released for the Exynos cpu, some clever sod is bound to figure out how to implement it onto the Note in a custom ROM kind of way.
That would definitely be worth rooting for haha.
And I thought I needed root to do anything with the CPU. I will have to look to see if I can find a live monitor app or something, thanks.
Edit:
I found an app which does that, in a nice little overlay. Seems that the cpu peaks up to 1900mhz fairly frequently, when loading up certain things etc. So its not just a gaming thing. Seems to work quite well.

From what I got fromSamsung site, It is true for the older version. With the new version used in GN 10.1 2014 it has HMP and all cores work together simultaneously, and potentially all cores at a given time.
Link or proof?
As far as I understood it, there is a patch that might come out and open for full octa core, but nothing yet. And they have pretty much said that the note 3 will NOT be getting it

No, it does not use all 8 cores simultaneously. The older versions of the Exynos big.LITTLE chips do not have the capability at all. The newer version, including the one in the 10.1 2014, has the hardware in place to do it, but it is not turned on in the kernel.
Ah, thanks for pointing that out.

I think it's a hardware problem because i don't get it immediately.
And if i take out the power cord and put it in again immediately he will freeze even faster, if i do nothing for a while (without the power cord) he will work again
for a short time, so i think the CPU or GPU or both are overheating, and thats a hardware problem.
And i hope i will not have this problem when i will get him back or get a new one.
It's been 2 weeks already and i still have not hear from them, how long does it takes to fix a dam Android TV BOX???

Mine also freezes when downloading from the play store and locks up completely when I am playing Walking Dead. I have opened a support ticket with Mad Catz and am still waiting for a response.... Hopefully it is a software issue and not hardware.
Ok rickyd1982 i will let you know how it went, and JulianH you also have it wile playing games like Walking Dead, then it also sounds like overheating.
But how can you bring out a Device that has Freezing problems, and why have i heard nothing yet from Mad Catz, it is normal they answer questions, or are
they the same as MeLE?
This is bad advertisement for Mad Catz.

Let me know what they say. I started playing the Walking Dead and it freezes on me as well. That is the first time I've had freezing. I have had apps crash occasionally, but not freeze like this.
Waiting for repair

My ticket is now at "In Progress" status. I will keep you all informed when/if I get a response from them.

Yes he can get hot, i hope i get a new one soon, because i just sent my MeLE M9 back to the store, for money refund, i was getting sick of all the
problems he had, there were 12 BIG problems i and others found, and non of them are fixed in mounts, after many firmware updates.
Unbelievable i am waiting 3 weeks now, and still they have not fixed him.
Wow are there that many broken devices at Mad Catz repair service, thats not good news for us.
Can you please hurry up Mad Catz.
So i have received an e-mail from Bol.com, and they say:
After investigation has shown that your article according to the guidelines of the manufacturer, unfortunately not more can be repaired.
For this reason, we will refund the amount you paid on your account back. Please take this with a maximum processing time of five days.
A new article unfortunately we can not send automatically. If you prefer, you can order it yourself again www.bol.com.
Sincerely,
bol.com Customer
So they (Mad Catz) can not repair the freeze problem, so guys this is not good news for you to hear, it means you have to order a new M.O.J.O.
Because it can't be fixed, and it takes 3 to 4 weeks till finally Mad Catz will look at your device and sees it can't be repaired (but it means it
costs too much to repair it).
So i think i now go for the Tronsmart Vega S89 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM with Android 4.4 KiKat, Costs almost half of what the M. O.J. O costs, and he is also fast, gets about 25000 a 30000 points in AnTuTu Benchmark 4.
And it supports Dolby Digital (AC3) 5.1 / DTS 5.1 / DTS-HD HRA 5.1 / DTS-HD MA 5.1 with HDMI passthrough in XBMC.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLwc6COFQ24
Or i go for the Minix Neo X8s, has the same hardware and cost the same, and comes in may, or i wait for the Rockchip RK3288, and that chipset is gone
have a ARM Cortex-A17 2.0GHz processor and Mali T628 GPU and it has H.265/HEVC support for 4K2K videos, and HDMI 2.0 for 4K @ 60 fps video
output, and Gigabit Ethernet.
I'm getting nowhere with Mad Catz support.
They think my problem is not hardware and keep asking me to factory reset it and clear data!
I have done this but it still freezes/lock during downloads and in game.
Looks like it's back to retailer for a refund (and possibly buying a Nvidia Shield)
not looking good for M.O.J.O.
new firmware needed
I'm not an expert but I have had other boxes and have had freezing in them to and a firmware update helped them I don't think it is hardware either I'm sitting tight till the new firmware comes out cause apart from the freezing this definitely is the best box about look at the trouble the new console s had at launch day these things happen its how they sort them out that counts

Sorry to say but If you BOX freeze every time it's NOT the best box out there, and sorry but Freezing is not a little problem that you can have if you
have a new Android TV BOX, but it's a BIG problem, because of that he is unusable, and Mad Catz is very slow with Firmware updates, only 1
firmware update in mounts.
It's a pity it could be a great Android TV BOX.
I agree I never said it was a wee problem remember I have the same problem I said that it is the best box out of the many I have had and I have had a lot of boxes but I'm trying things here like adding fans and freeing up memory I have only 4 GB left on my internal memory so I am moving all my apps to SD as we speak to see if that helps did you have much memory left on urs when the freezing was happening my last box MINIX x7 when it was low on memory it had a mind of its own I also agree that we need firmware updates out quicker but ones are asking for kik kat I think this next firmware will make this box sing fingers crossed kik kat, ouya store, and an end to this freezing

Firmware update soon like Android 4.4 KitKat, and that everything works as it should be.

PUBG mobile really stuck

Hi, I just got the Galaxy s10 plus and I am having a weird issue. When I play PUBG mobile it is really stuck and I have fps drops every second or 2, the game is really not playable.. I have the exynos version. Is it possible that my previous s7 edge ran the game better?! I tried reinstalling the game and cleaning the cache but nothing works.. Any ideas?
PUBG used to run at 15fps when it came out on console, they're just not the smartest Devs.

I had the Huawei P20 pro before and it ran on 50-60 fps with no stutter.. Is it possible that a 2 yo processor is better then the new Exynos on the S10 plus? Or am I missing anything?

No.
The P20 Pro is a generation behind and it even has less clusters, if anything it's 100% Pubg's fault for not being optimised to new hardware, it's common for new devices to suffer that for a few months.
pubg on my mobile has the buttons beyond the screen even. it sucks big time. so i keep playing it on my mate 20pro for now...
i play some on mine and no issues whatsoever. Runs better then it did on my pixel 3 xl

Hey buddy, similar issue here but it's not unplayable. Just a few frame drops every 10-20 secs or so. I could play it just fine on my note 9, with an exynos chip, and so that leads me to believe either pubg or the newer exynos chip hasn't had a software optimisation update yet.. it will come and when it does it clearly will be far more stable than the previous chip.

I have the Exynos version and it runs at 60 fps with no problem. I think you should go to game launcher and at the bottom right there is a settings wheel with performance logo, press on it and then select focus on performance and make sure you are not on power saving mode. hope it works bro! good luck.
I was facing same issue fps dropping constantly i have flashed my phone through odin and all fixed now.

no issue for me. I've selected rounded corners and made this game full screen.
it depends on which side of the landscape u r playing on.

I downloaded it just to try it for you and there's no stutter or low fps, I think you should do a factory reset and follow my guide, there's something wrong.

Rather annoyingly I seem to be getting the same issue as the OP. Gaming performance (pubg) really hasn't been great with frequent stuttering and frame drops. Worse performance than my note 9. But if others of you can play without fault then it is something more localised. I don't have many apps installed, my phone is fresh as of two days, I'm using performance mode in the gaming tool app, and also am not in power saving mode.... any other guesses as to mine and op issue might be?
Any help appreciated
Mine runs Pubg brilliantly with HDR and ultra framerate.
s10 has a problem with the separation of sound. When I play and talk to discord I hear the game very badly. Note 9 does not have this pr0blem
So I played pubg last night, and my persist issue with the frame drops continued throughout the game. It's not unplayable by all accounts, however it is distracting and does leave me at a slight disadvantage.
Anyhow, I decided to have a play around in dev options, in my phone settings. And after some googling I decided to try "force GPU rendering" - I then tried pubg and the frame drops had completely stopped. I have no idea why this is, as from my research most developers enable it by default in their games, and when I googled it people mentioned a placebo effect.
Placebo effect or not, I can categorically state that the frame drops stopped, and force GPU rendering was the only option I changed out of the game.
Weird... would love to know anyones opinion on this?
Everyone having problem playing PUBG do the following.
1. Update game launcher ( Samsung just released an update)
2. Log out of the game
3. Hit repair on the right Corner on the login screen
4. Tick all the boxes, done
5. Restart the game and let it download the updates again
6. Restart again and then try to play PUBG
7. OPTIONAL: Switch off Dolby atoms
Let me know if this works

calling glorified arma 3 modders "devs" makes me laugh for all the wrong reasons, that is literally where the game was cloned from after all.

I never had interest in either game but I can imagine they'd do that.
