1. is the EM diagnostic menu still working under NoDo? does tethering work?
2. do you think Dell fixed the camera blur issues in the new firmware?
thanks
some reports indicate that the em app is available, but far more restricted. I'm not sure about tethering though
and for the second problem, remember, this is Dell. Not likely
I am in the US and have the DVP on T-Mo with the NoDo update (it came that way).
The EM menu is very limited. The only setting that can be changed is MMS Settings.
My phone does not have the camera update, but Dell has stated that will come in mid-April.

Your phone shipped from Dell US with NoDo?
If so, you have to post details on the RAM reported and if it was a new or refurb.
I posted details 4 weeks ago when I received it. It was a new phone, not a refurb.

It connects to secure networks that are broadcasting SSID. I have 3 networks set up that are visible and secure. It works great. No freezing, no delays. Very quick. I have been on WiFi and downloaded apps from the Marketplace. No issues.
It does not see hidden networks, and as far as I know, there is no place to manually enter it.
Thanks for the prompt reply. I was hoping the NoDo update allow us to setup unbroadcast SSID. This is the top of my wish list. I work at an organization that have hidden WiFi and broadcast is not an option
have been using mango for a month now...and then got the mango update today..still noticed that cant connect to hidden wifi networks...can anyone else connect?i read in a post that you can connect to them in mango by going to the wifi setttings page and pressing advanced where an add option would be available...cant seem to get it...

Same question here. I can not find the tethering fuction either.
I can't seem to find it either. The guy in this link thinks that the option is enabled by firmware.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=17926208&postcount=5
If no-one with a DVP can access this setting, it's possible Dell may not have enabled this yet in the firmware.

thats bad!!!!!!!!!!!! was one of those features i was waiting for....maybe in a future update but i doubt it....
This article seems to confirm it:

Hope Dell will be working on some firmware updates
Most unfortunate update(Mango). After all the hype the features are incomplete.
Now I am feeling sorry that I ever bought Samsung Focus.
No + Sign
Bought one unlocked for 300$, has the mango udpate, but no + sign for Hidden n/w's. It sure is painful, there is no point using data plan while in office/home. any idea when is the next update coming?
I recall reading something about the version of a certain piece of hardware Dell choose to include in the phone. The particular chip (Qualcomm I believe) doesn't allow for broadcasting of N band wireless networks and doesn't enable recognition of hidden WiFi networks, thus no tethering and only public wireless networks for now. Again this is just what I've seen her and there so don't quote me on it haha.
I've heard talk about a firmware work-around despite hardware limitations so there is some hope, but I'm not going to get my hopes up for now.
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
yup me too read about the hardware article...its sad that one of the initial flagship windows phones doesnt have much on hardware terms...btw tethering is possible through the em app...you can search through xda to do it...but hidden networks i doubt anymore...dont think they will be releasing a new firmware anytime soon
No more updates
seems like there isn't going to be any udpate dell discontinued the phone.
I turn on my Galaxy today and suddenly my sim unlocked phone is simlocked again. WTF?
Samsung/Google put a damn remote control for network providers into Android.
Network providers can change our settings and override our own settings and who knows what else.
On my dumbphone and on my hsdpa modem the network is unable to override my settings like on Android.
If this kind of remote control would be inside Windows, there would be mass protests.
I think this is caused by a software like CarrierIQ
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CarrierIQ
Yes, samsung is remotely changing your APN settings just to see how you will react. They noticed how annoyed you were, so they decided to simlock your phone again, that sure was hilarious, gave them a good laugh, so they tried it again the day after. They keep pictures of angry customers (ofcourse secretly taken with the cam on your phone) on their walls and throw darts at them. Wherever the dart lands, that customer will get a random new APN configured.
You are lucky though, samsung also changes your sms tone to fart sounds when you are not looking. Also, setting your alarm clock to 2 AM is one of their better random pranks, so be sure to check your alarm every night before you go to sleep.
In the sticky thread of this forum:
"[SC-02C] Japan NTT DoCoMo Galaxy S II Users"
I quote what they write:
"Its suspected that turning the built-in tether feature switches you invisibly to a different APN which generates an increase on the bill."
Yeah, so samsung MUST be changing APN settings remotely. I told you they were pranksters

Read this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier_IQ
Samsung is not a network operator.
I'll see your carrier IQ and raise you Carrier IQ Detector.
Oh, you are not American? Only God knows why you mentioned Carrier IQ then
Still, I thought Carrier IQ could only be used for stat collection, not for remotely changing random settings. Thanks for the info!
Also, yes, I am a complete noob at being a clown. If only I could learn from a clown master
About this software:
Apple, HTC and Samsung said the software was installed on their phones. Apple said it had quit supporting the application in iOS 5. Apple said it would scrub the software from phones in some future release. HTC said, it was required on its devices by a "number of U.S. carriers." Nokia and Research in Motion said it categorically was not authorized for their phones. However, this does not prevent mobile carriers from installing it after the phone is manufactured. According to the company's website the software is also installed on NEC mobile devices, and the company has a partnership with Vodafone Portugal.
On December 1, 2011, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile confirmed it was on their phones.

The network operators can change the settings of the OS.
I quote again from the other thread:
"Its suspected that turning the built-in tether feature switches you invisibly to a different APN which generates an increase on the bill."
Activate wifi network and deactivate mobile network, edit your APN's and see if changes with your wifi network. If it does, you have a problem with the software of your mobile phone. If it doesn't call the ghost-buster!!

He wrote "invisibly".
Invisibly means that what you have set in your settings is irrelevant.
He's talking about tethering.
When you tether, you lose wifi connectivity, because your phone needs to act as an AP.

What you wrote is not related to what I am writing about.
I am writing about 3G network settings and network operator control over them.
Wifi and 3G are two different things.
APNs are set for 3G, not Wifi.
He writes that the 3G APN changes.
Nobody is writing about wifi losing connectivity, except you.
How did you notice it changed the first time if it happened "invisibly", but can't see if it happens again on wifi?

I thought Android is a free, open OS. We root the device and do all kinds of stuff but Samsung/Google have given control on the OS to the network operators.

The reason for the argument is that your 1st post is somewhat misleading, how exactly they changed your apn settings? also why you bring up carrier iq? that software is for logging not remote controlling...

I explain in more detail. There are two APNs on my network provider.
One has a network speed limitation, one does not have it.
I of course use the one without the speed limitation.
ONLY ON MY ANDROID PHONE (on my dumbphone and on my hsdpa modem this never happens), the network operator DISCONNECTs my connection with my APN, and the phone re-connects to hspa+ with the different APN. Invisibly means that the APN in my settings is the same I put, (the one without speed cap).
But I notice I am on the other APN, because I see the network disconnection and I notice the reconnection with speed limitation.
This speed limitation or speed cap is visible on my speed meter (netlimiter program).

As the other contributor explained:
"Its suspected that turning the built-in tether feature switches you invisibly to a different APN which generates an increase on the bill."
He notices it from the increase in the phone bill.
I notice it from the disconnection of my hspa+ connection and the re-connection with the APN with speed limitation. I can see the speed limitation clearly on my program "netlimiter".
And, this never happens on my dumbphone and on my hsdpa modem, only on Android.
I bring up carrieriq because it is an example of a program the network providers put on android to do stuff without our approval.

It's always off!
Same for me
I am on EE in the UK using an S5 and this is my second one, have you found any fixes?
Elmer we have 2 S5s on EE with the same problem. One on 5.0 (has had the problem since Apr15) the other on 5.02 (has had the problem since Jan16). EE are slower than slow making updates available. EE blames Samsung; Samsung blames EE. Customer service is ABYSMAL. Very many people have this issue. And it isn't just EE or the UK.
Only ways round it is
Reboot
Engage / disengage Airplane mode
Under more networks, flip the data connection between 4G > 3G > 4G
possible way forward

Thanks for your reply, after finally receiving my letter of deadlock from EE after an 8 weeks wait the only offer to resolve the issue from EE was to swap for another S5. Therefore I have approached the communications ombudsman to resolve the issue they have agreed to represent me. In the meantime i have cancelled the remaining 6 months of my contract at a cost of £130 and started a new contract (S7). I am asking the ombudsman to claim back my early cancellation fee - if it works it may be a way forward for many others.
Hi Elmer. Thanks for your info.
It seems that loan phones from EE shops are non existent So I took my phone into Samsung's own service Centre in Wembley, but their 'fix' failed to fix.
If it helps, there is an EE community thread on this problem - Lollipop Update on S5: Intermittent mobile data. (Not sure if I can post 3rd party links here.)
My phone firmware is so out of date - a year behind without updates. 5.1 was a MAJOR security update, but EE failed in their duty to there customers to make it available. Android 6 for the S5 will be available shortly, but am not holding my breath that EE will act in a timely manner.....
Whether any of the non available updates would fix the problem is unknown.
PLEASE update us all if / when you get a determination from the Ombudsman. Is there a contact case number so I can add to the Ombudsman's action?
I'm hoping this is the right place to ask, haven't posted here before, but I'm stumped. I recently upgraded to the LG G6, it's on Bell in Canada. Loving the phone, but having one big issue. When I'm connected to WiFi, I miss calls and texts, it's not consistent but often enough that it's a problem. As soon as I disconnect from WiFi I get any delayed texts and voicemail notifications for any calls I had missed. I'm just running stock, and these are the steps I've tried so far:
-changed sim, nope
-factory reset, nope
-tried sim in another new G6, nope
-turned off VoLTE in call settings, nope
-cannot find a WiFi calling setting or would have disabled as well
-checked with Bell and LG and both say they're unaware of any related issues and advised wait for patch.
Anyone have any other suggestions that may help? I really like the phone, not a Samsung fan and I'll wait for updates if need be, but maybe it's a quick fix in the settings somewhere. *fingers crossed*
Thanks!
WiFi calling setting is in the call option inside your system settings.
Could be your WiFi/router isn't good enough to handle that.
Sounds like a port forwarding issue quite honestly. Probably a Wi-Fi router issue more than the phone issue.

I don't have a WiFi calling option in my call settings, it should be directly under the volte toggle I thought, but can't find it anywhere. And happens on multiple WiFi networks. My home network itself is getting about 50mps download speed when I run speed test on my phone on WiFi.

That's very strange that you don't have a WiFi calling option. Is WiFi calling a region specific feature as well??
If I'm not mistaken, I think it's carrier and device specific. I checked through my Bell plan and I don't see it listed as a feature, but I know the G6 supports it. But I checked everywhere and can't find anything pertaining to it. Odd.

Maybe that is the issue. Perhaps the LG Software is trying to accept calls and texts through the WiFi signal but something that your carrier has done with the blocking off WiFi calling on their end is causing the bug. I'm not too savy with the way Android and it's coding works.
VoWiFi is carrier specific feature. though LG G6 supports it , carrier can disable the feature as you bought phone from him. you can go to hidden menu (277634#*# or *#546368#*872# , here 872 is the phone model , replace it with yours) and turn off VoWiFi.
