To anyone intending to buy an Omnia7 and unlock it to put on another network...
BEWARE - MMS WILL NOT WORK.
Theres no way to change MMS settings for your new carrier.
I bought one a couple of days ago, and fell into this trap. The phone is going back as a consequence.
MMS and other network settings can usually be configured via SMS. I'd call the new provider first and ask them to send you such a message. The phone should act on the information automatically.
Let me know if this works.

Good suggestion, but we already tried that. They sent two SMS, neither were received. Standard SMS works fine.
I assume Wp7 cannot be configured in this way
You must use an app that can configure those options or try to find them on the test app of the Samsung...
This is because carriers block the auto configuration that WP7 makes use with the card you have inserted.
HTC made an app for that and i think LG can be configurated on the MFG app...

it appears Samsung also made an app, but me, and all the reviewers on the marketplace cannot get it to work. I'm left with a phone which can't support MMS. Very frustrated :-(

Thats really bad! Well i'm sure carriers will eventually get a WP7 configuration later, but can you try to obtain support from Samsung on the non working app?

I will have a go with Samsung, but I`m not holding out much hope. It appears the carrier (Three) is blocking the configuration application from working. The only other thing I can think of is flashing the firmware with a stock samsung version. Anyone know if thats a possibility??
I`ve just been down to the 3 shop, and they won`t accept the phone back, because its been unlocked, funnily enough they didn`t mention this when I bought the phone and told them I`d be using it on O2.... I`ll speak to trading standards as well.
The saga continues.

If you bought it in store and it's not faulty and is fit for purpose then they don't have to do anything as far as I'm aware. If you bought it remotely (online/phone) then you can return it without giving a reason within 14 days.
But since you've unlocked it that returns guarantee won't apply anymore as it's not in the condition it was in when sold. Your only grounds would be a fault or not fit for purpose, and the purpose was to work on the 3 network which I assume it does. And in neither case would they be obliged to give you a refund, just a replacement (which presumably would be locked to 3 again).
If I were you, I'd ask your preferred service provider (the new one) to re-flash it in their service centre, as that'll probably be their version of the firmware with their MMS settings. There will probably be a charge since they didn't supply the phone.
Have you checked if the Samsung Diagnostics tool can help you out?
I have a T-Mobile UK phone unlocked and I'm using it on AT&T in the US. I have the same problem.
Everything else works great on the phone (including 3G) but not MMS.
I think I can help you relock it again.
Please try *7465625*638*XXXXXXXX#

Yea, tried that, no dice.
We`ve decided to keep the phone, despite MMS not working (its a gift for my wife). Sh`ll email pictures instead, which is annoying but hopefully a fix for this will come out soon.
Data Too?
Apologies if this may seem like a dumb question, but is accessing data (e.g. 3g) on your unlocked phone (on a different sim) also affected or is it just MMS?
Cheers,
Asim
I thinks these issues only happend on locked phones that were unlocked after or even unlocked ones that carriers sell. This is because the carriers are blocking the autoconfig of WP7 for MMS and other stuff. I sure thought that MS would not allow this kind of stuff...
To be fair, who still actually uses MMS?
You just bought a phone that is heavily oriented around data plans.
Emails are free, MMSs are not.
No offence intended here.

not that I've ever sent one
But it is another dirty trick the Mobile TelCo's are playing on us.
I've tried the Samsung Network Profile app with O2, Giffgaff, T-Mobile, Virgin, Tesco, 3 and Orange sims all with the same result...
'This Application can't be launched with your Mobile Operator'
Yup. My phones mostly been living off Wifi
Didn't think many people bought smartphones for the "phone aspect" heh
Data connection when i'm out.
Few phone calls.......whatever they are now.....

With respect, my wife uses MMS, and as its her phone, its not unreasonable for her to be able to use that function, is it????
Yes, she can use email to achieve a similar function, but you will already know that MMS has some distinct advantages over email (auto resizing pictures, compatibility with phones which don`t support receiving email, push delivery to all devices).
For these reasons, your implied assertion that MMS and Email are interchangable, is a long way off the mark.
Oh, and emails are not free - they consume your data allowance. I don`t know the price differential is between MMS charges, but my point is they aint free.
I`m sorry if this comes across as shirty, but implying that this isn`t a problem is not very helpful.
i have the same problem, do you guys have a solution for this...
guys,
i have found the following solution of the internet and i need your advise:
MFG is a hidden admin app on the phone. Here are the steps -- !!! use at your own risk !!!:
1. Go to the phone app
2. Dial ##634# and click Send
3. When prompted for a password type 277634#*#
4. You should now be at "Factory Menu"
5. Choose "Engineer Menu"
6. Choose "Other Setting"
7. Verify that "Set ADC" is set to Enable
8. From the "Other Setting" page, choose "Set network profile"
9. You should now be on the "Set network profile" page and in the bottom half of the window you should see a list of *.xml files. These appear to be the network configuration files.
10. Look at the filenames for the config files and take your best guess at which one to choose for your provider. I'm on AT&T and I fixed the MMS problem by choosing "_PROV_ATT_US_310_410.xml"
After you choose that *.xml profile, your MMS should be working.
what do you think ???????????????
I've searched. Only found one nobody post saying it wasn't capable hardware wise... Is that really true. And if so, why can't it handle it. Imo, it should be able too.... Really want wp7 hotspot device.....
Don't believe it... Will only be a matter of time until an app is available...
I agree.. it's all a matter of apps now. Apparently, the MANGO release will give developers more access to the 'guts' of the O/S, so we should start seeing apps with more functionality than before.

It tethers fine, you just need to use the built in MFG application to change the USB port mode to QC composite.
Instructions are here:
http://flopek.wordpress.com/2010/11/25/tethering-instructions-for-the-lg-quantum-on-att-usa/
That's insane I had no idea these can tether. I'm liking my Quantum more and more everyday. I'm a big accidental LG fan.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I was able to install the modem without issue, and my computer sees it. However the connection is immediately refused. Apparently AT&T is blocking this in the U.S.A. At least in Minnesota.
It's kind of annoying way to do it though. Not too thrilled about entering a code and password everytime I would want to tether.
Really looking for something like Win Mo 6.5 equavalent to WiFi Router.
How about on PetroCanada or Speakout
I have the Quantum and PetroCanada UMB and I tried everything on that above link to get it to work but can't! The USB modem drivers installed correctly but I don't know the correct settings to get the phone to tether properly on the internet and I've tried so many combinations! Can somebody help me out? A WIFI Hotspot update sure would be good right now to avoid the whole problem altogether!!!
add a string in the advanced tab
Did you do the init string in the modem setup?
AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","isp.cingular"
maybe a different isp string in Canada
I lost the ability to tether with Mango. My wifes phone is still on Nodo, and that phone can tether fine with the QC composite mode. Can other people on Mango still tether? I upgraded to Mango beta with the legit developer release, and then to Mango after it went RTM(never rolled phone back to nodo first).
Also on a side note, I still cannot connect to hidden wifi SIDs, and I see other people with the Quantum have the same problem. Seems like the OEM needs to enable this with Mango for it to work. Can anyone else use hidded wifi SIDs? My + icon is missing under advanced. Wondering if the route I took to Mango didn't update something.

Still no hidden SSID support with the LG Quantum.
As for Mango tethering, you're missing one more update after Mango RTM. Connect to Zune again, and check for updates. You should get an LG-specific update. That will update the USB tethering functionality in the phone for Mango.

The update is definately not available for all Quantum users.
I have AT&T and live in the United States and am not able to get the LG update.
Why everyone doesn't take the 5 minutes to go into User CP and set their carrier and country is beyond me. IMO, it should be a requirement before posting. More than half the posters in this thread haven't done it.

You might have to go in the registry and make sure your carrier is set to ATT-US. If it's unbranded, or if that value is not filled in, then it won't work.

I actually dropped the service on my phone.
It's not that I didn't love Windows Phone 7 with Mango. Work bought me an iPhone 4S with a new number and they pay the monthly bill. So, I ported my personal number to Google Voice, so I can use it on my iPhone along with the number they provided. Free vs monthly bill. Free wins almost everytime.
I wouldn't think that service would be required to get an LG update, but since the carriers push the updates out, maybe it does. I guess I will know for sure when Apollo starts getting pushed out. Or it might be one of those things where it is going to take 30 days to push it out to everyone.
Nice job getting your info updated.

Same question here. I can not find the tethering fuction either.
I can't seem to find it either. The guy in this link thinks that the option is enabled by firmware.

If no-one with a DVP can access this setting, it's possible Dell may not have enabled this yet in the firmware.

This article seems to confirm it:

Hope Dell will be working on some firmware updates
Most unfortunate update(Mango). After all the hype the features are incomplete.
Now I am feeling sorry that I ever bought Samsung Focus.
No + Sign
Bought one unlocked for 300$, has the mango udpate, but no + sign for Hidden n/w's. It sure is painful, there is no point using data plan while in office/home. any idea when is the next update coming?
I recall reading something about the version of a certain piece of hardware Dell choose to include in the phone. The particular chip (Qualcomm I believe) doesn't allow for broadcasting of N band wireless networks and doesn't enable recognition of hidden WiFi networks, thus no tethering and only public wireless networks for now. Again this is just what I've seen her and there so don't quote me on it haha.
I've heard talk about a firmware work-around despite hardware limitations so there is some hope, but I'm not going to get my hopes up for now.
Sent from my Venue Pro using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
yup me too read about the hardware article...its sad that one of the initial flagship windows phones doesnt have much on hardware terms...btw tethering is possible through the em app...you can search through xda to do it...but hidden networks i doubt anymore...dont think they will be releasing a new firmware anytime soon
No more updates
seems like there isn't going to be any udpate dell discontinued the phone.
I am coming from a Nokia E71 so this is a big change for me. I am using the unlocked version of the Focus in India and there are some glitches I am trying to get my head around.
1. No option to connect to Wifi only when needed? - I can do this on my E71 where only when I use an app that need Internet access it either automatically connects to Wifi or asks me if I would like to connect. I see no such option on the Focus it's either always on or always off. I don't want to waste battery by constantly being connected to wifi but there doesn't seem to be any option to change this behaviour.
2. No Text Delivery reports so I don't know if the SMS eventually reached the recipient or not.
3. GPRS: I have tried various options to set up GPRS on my phone by selecting APN and using the settings from my provider but no dice.
4. No option to save usernames and passwords on frequently visited sites on IE9. Come on my piss poor Opera Mobile has this feature on my E71!
Any help with any of the above would be appreciated thank you.

1. There's an app called 'Toggle' that can help you pin a short cut to activate wi-fi when needed. You can download it here
2. Currently not available. You can put an official request here here
3. I'm not sure how, but my device selected the setting automatically. You can manually try this
4. Never had problems with that as I dont use much of IE on my WP. But you can read some more info here and here
Hope that helped!!

Do you know if your carrier supports this? If they do, you can enable it using a registry editor, then going into Settings/Messaging and turning it on. Unfortunately, not all carriers support it. ATT does not.

Yeah, I could use more battery life also, but I'm on my phone a LOT during the day, so it's expected. I had an iPhone 4s for a couple days, and I was able to drain it in less than one day also. It really depends on usage...
As far as unlocking, you can do it for FREE by visiting this page using your Mobile Browser in Mobile Layout (open IE, go to settings, select Mobile version on Website preference):
www.windowsphonehacker.com/windowbreak
More info can be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20619864 The other benefit is that this unlocker is not limited to 10 sideloaded apps like Chevron.
This method is WAY easier than the others.... Just open the webpage and follow the instructions.

I've tried it both ways. I'm currently on 7720 because I never noticed a performance difference on 8107. I am now going to wait for ATT to release it (if they do), since I would like to get driver updates also if they include them. I never had the keyboard issue, and the other fixes don't bother me personally.

Can anybody else connect to a WPA2 Enterprise Wi-Fi network? I get "Authentication error" every time despite using the correct settings for the networks. I'm waiting for my current month to get closer to ending before activating my Crystal (don't want to throw away too much $$$), but I doubt it is a factor.
My college uses WPA2 Enterprise for all Wi-Fi networks except for the Open network (and it's a little obvious why Open isn't a good thing...).
I even went to my school's IT department to see if there was anything they could do and weren't able to do anything. They double-checked the settings and used other profiles, and still weren't able to connect.
They say it's a firmware issue since it will connect to the Open network, and I believe them. My current phone is the LG Optimus F3 on Virgin, and it'll successfully connect to the same networks the Crystal won't on the stock firmware (ZV5), but when I update to either the ZV6 or ZV7 firmware I get the same issue: an authentication error.
Thanks.
Me too
Have the same issue. Is this a certificate issue? Seems to me i have seen this before on another device and this was the issue.
Thanks,
Phil
I too am having this issue, whenever trying to connect to the secure university website... I cannot access data and have no signal anywhere, any patches?
I contacted Sharp about it on Friday and got a call back today. The guy called right as I was about to be occupied for the next few hours, so I couldn't troubleshoot and rescheduled for tomorrow.
If it is able to be corrected, I will post the steps to do so.

It might be a certificate issue since my college specifically tells us (students) to uncheck "validate certificates" in the connection wizard when initially trying to connect to the network(s) on our laptops. The IT guy I worked with has a Galaxy S4 or 5, not sure which, with 4.4.2 and he is able to connect to the same networks I cannot.
It might be different for yours...
I spoke to the Sharp rep today and the case has been escalated since it is the "first ticket" about this issue.
He tried to walk me through manually adding the wireless network, by the + on the Wi-Fi settings page, and am still not able to connect.
Choosing either the WEP or the WPA/WPA2 PSK Security option removes the ability to add an identity to tell the network who I am, while 802.1x EAP has such option.
I think that is the issue.
I believe I was told that I would get more calls from Sharp about this; and I was given a case number and a direct callback number if I needed to call them (no, I won't share).
I too am having this issue and am keen on what Sharp has to say about it. While you have them on the phone do you mind asking them about whether or not we have a chance of seeing Lollipop on this device?

Sure. It appears to be something Sharp would have to push an update for from what I gather with my limited technical Android knowledge and I see no harm in asking. But I make no promises of an answer.

It shouldn't be too had for Sharp to get Lollipop to work since KitKat is already very stock. Plus, if Sharp is truly wanting to get back in the smartphone game in the States, they'll probably fix problems with something as important as Wi-Fi and want the latest and greatest version of Android on their current U.S. flagship to make a, material , statement to users .
would someone post a phone number so we all can call and document this problem?
It's an 844 number. It's listed in the back of the white booklet that came with your crystal. I've called and documented several issues and have a case #. This WiFi issue being one of them.
How many Boost or Virgin phones aside from the Moto G have gotten any update attention at all?
Update
Called Sharp just now and I am told that a Manager of some sorts is looking at my case and looking for a fix for "[my] particular phone." From the rep.'s recap of the notes the previous rep. left, it appears that the issue with connecting to an Enterprise network was lost in the English-to-English translation and I am apparently having issues connecting to Wi-Fi in general. Trying to clarify that the issue is only with an Enterprise security connection made no effect.
I am curious as to what that Manager or whomever calls will say in the one to two business days I was told I would receive a call-back.
I would not be surprised if there is no official fix...
Update:
They pay better attention to you if you hit them up on Facebook. I expect a call tomorrow. Among my issues/questions was an update to Lollipop. So I'll keep everyone posted.

They called less than an hour ago while I was in class. Like I expected, they assumed I am unable to connect to any Wi-Fi and had to clear that up. Now I'm told I'll get another call in another business day or two.
Forgot about asking about Lollipop. Having more people ask about it should get them in gear to bring it to the Crystal since that shows demand.
Update
Got a call back from Sharp and they ended up issuing an RMA.
It took 2 business days to get back to me to only have me try to reconnect with a slightly different security option and decide this is an issue that currently can't be fixed...
I already tried what they asked me to do and had the same error I've always had in doing so. Jeez...
Now I'm curious as to what they're going to do with my phone, or if they will fix it somehow.
I got a new phone from Sharp today and still have the same issue. There goes their "it's a hardware" problem.
I did ask about plans for a Lollipop upgrade in the future and got a stern "No." and that was it.

We came across an individual with the same device, and they entered a "Connecting...Saved" cycle. It took a couple of days, but we got the device connected to our campus network (Today Actually). We had to manually import the certificate, and select it during the wireless profile configuration. Normally this isn't necessary, and it was only necessary on Nokia Symbian phones and some BlackBerries. Does your university provide a method of manually downloading the wireless certificates - specifically an option for mobile devices (Android/BlackBerry/etc)?

We came across an individual with the same device, and they entered a "Connecting...Saved" cycle. It took a couple of days, but we got the device connected to our campus network (Today Actually). We had to manually import the certificate, and select it during the wireless profile configuration. I just sent it out again to Sharp yesterday, so when I get it back I will ask my IT department if they will be able to do so.
I don't remember the reason why, but those who attend the same school as I have to manually configure the connection on a computer so certificates are not validated because the school servers don't send out many certificates.
I thought that might be the issue in the first place, but wasn't sure and thought to follow "proper procedures" to find a solution. Also not being able to enter a domain/ID while manually configuring a WPA/WPA2 PSK network on Android seems like a big oversight. I don't know if that's usual for that network but that possibly could have done the trick if it were an option.

Following "Proper Procedures" is the best place to start . I suspect the problem may be one of two things:
The certificate that your university utilizes is missing from the "Trusted Certificates" on your device
The certificate IS present in your "Trusted Certificates", but the Crystal Sharp's wpa_supplicant [apologize if wrong terminology] is not utilizing it for your Wi-Fi Profile.

Your IT Department should be able to check which certificates are installed by going to "Settings -> Security -> Credential Storage -> Trusted Credentials". The option to install certificates will be down below. If you're able to manually install the right certificate and configure the wireless profile, you may see "Network may be monitored" - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2537794 Depending on what the certificate issue is, this may be something that can be permanently fixed by an update. *Note - the certificate we use is normally in the "Trusted Certificates" for Android devices, however, I'm unsure if it was present or not on our user's phone*

Hey CBJohns,
I've been working with TriTanium to resolve this issue from our end. Now, I'm *incredibly* rusty with certs and my knowledge when I knew about them was limited at best. Is there any way you would be willing to go over the process you went through? We don't currently have a method of downloading the cert that I know of, and all I have at this time is the .cer file. I don't have a signed key or anything like that which makes it difficult to create a .pfx.
We are using GoDaddy certs here on campus though, which leads me to questions why it doesn't work for this specific model of phone. I don't deal with cert signing or anything like that for us though, I'm Tier II Helpdesk support for all intents and purposes.
Thanks in advance!
