G900I 5.0 root? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just wondering if there's a 5.0 root method for the G900I yet?
If so, can someone point me to a guide.
Thanks in advance!

KNOX 0x1:
download supersu 2.45 zip http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1538053
Have TWRP installed
1)enter TWRP / CWM (I have used newest TWRP)
2)wipe cache and dalvik (for sure, never enough to wipe cache and dalvik )
3)install supersu.zip
4)reboot and waaaaaaaait.
Done. Perm ROOT.
KNOX 0x0 search forum. There is way to do it.

You need 2 things:
1. ODIN
2. Sammobile.com

Cheers!
Not too worried about knox.
I rushed it and tripped it before they worked out how to get around. So I'm counter anyway.
I only root for a few minor things anyway. So not worried too much about bricking. Touch wood.

Did anyone get official lollipop ? update for G900I yet?

According to : http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G900I/ the answer is yes: Taiwan.

Can others flash that without problems?

I have flashed the Taiwan version (I am based in Australia)
There is a few issues I have noticed with this one, clean proper install, wiped dalvik etc
WiFi continually drops off
Slow Performance
Apps often crash such as S-Health & Camera
No doubt Samsung are aware of these issues & will fix before they roll out others, I suspect they will release 5.01 or 5.02 to other countries rather than the 5.0 they released for the Taiwan version

Turn off smart switching 4G/WiFi in advanced settings. It helped me a lot.
About performance - have you wiped internal storage?
I haven't noticed crashes of these apps. Camera is working fine. Maybe something with yours SDcard?
S-Health - wipe app data and cache and try, I don't use this app too much but maybe it help.
I had issues with performance after dirty flash taiwanese rom on australian rom.
I have even downgraded to kitkat for a while! But I wanted to give a chance to LL.
I wiped everything from TWRP even system partition :F and flashed taiwan rom, then from stock taiwan recovery did full wipe and flash again taiwanese LL. Now I have no issues and more than 45k in AnTuTu...

I'm thinking to flash the Taiwanese rom G900IZTU1BOA1_G900IZZT1BOA1_BRI.zip on my G900I Indian version just wanted to know is it safe n has anyone installed it? Plz help I badly want to upgrade to lollipop

Be patient. It seems that Australia gets OTA update from yesterday. Maybe India is next?
I have downgraded yesterday my G900i to 4.4.2 again. I have mixed feelings. KK seems to be faster than LP but benchmark is lower. Also battery life seems to be greater on KK. One folk did battery benchmark and it was the same but benchmark is not daily use so, it is very difficult to campare.
If you want safe flash, then flash by odin. Installing original ROM do not trip knox.

No OTA but you lose nothing by not flashing lollipop at all.
You can flash Taiwan ROM. Downgrade is possible without tripping Knox flag.
But it is not worth of it.
Try and check by your own.

[Q] How do I upgrade from 4.2.2 to 4.3 ?

Hi there,
I need to upgrade my S4 to android 4.3 because I want to use Polar H7 bluetooth heart rate sensor.
I'm happy with 4.2.2 and would have never chagned if not for this sensor. It works only with 4.3 or better.
My question is. Can I upgrade to any 4.3 rom without doing the full wipe (have many apps and backing them up will take ages)
Can I upgrade to any 4.3 and not lose Glonass system which I heard may get lost.
Thanks in advance.

1. Glonass problems are related with early (before NE5) KitKat 4.4.2 ROMs, not with 4.3 ones, so you shall be safe;
2. Although there are some ROMs which should not require full wipe, it is healthier. I made this many times, and after update I frequently had to wipe phone anyway because of many glitches in apps appearing after new system update.
3. you shall try with Odin, it is less likely that you will be forced to wipe
4. New "generation" of sys elimnates as well many of security holes, so I'd recommend you to consider update to 4.42

[Q] Should I update from 4.3 JB to 4.4.2 KK ?

Hello
I recently got my S4 i9505. I'm planning to root it
I have Android version 4.3
I used to flash costum roms on my s2 but I'm not really planning to do much flashing on my S4. not soon anyway
So as I connected the phone to Kies to make sure the drivers were downloaded so I can proceed with rooting
Firmware update popped up
I'm not sure what the best option for me now.
Should I root now and then I'd be able to flash a costume KK rom? and are there any stable ones that are better than the stock?
Can I use kies to update my rooted phone?
Maybe I should stick with JB 4.3? Which one is better 4.3 or 4.4.2?
I remember facing some issues when I update my s2 back. So I searched for the KK Update for the s4 and some people weren't so happy with their KK update
I know that doesn't represent the majority but still it could happen to me
So I confused myself
What is your advice to me?
sorry for the long post
Also I have an extra question What is KNOX? and do I need it?

First, the most problems in 4.4.2 are fixed, so if you flash the officical, latest firmware of your country you shouldn't have any problem.
An important thing: if you flash a custom rom, your warranty will be set 0x1, that means, you lost your garanty if you flash a custom rom, that's the so called KNOX. You can use knox like a second system on your phone, with all secure data in it, you can only access with a passwort and all datas are locked without this passwort.
Root your phone after the software update if you want to root it.

downgrade official lollipop to official kitkat 4.4?

Has anyone successfully downgrade official lollipop 5.0 to official kitkat 4.4? How? Is it safe to do it? Please help [emoji38]
I am quite sure a lot of people have gone back to KitKat from Lollipop, including me. In the course of last one week I have flashed Lollipop at least six times and came back to KK each time. So yes, downgrading is absolutely problem free.
Thank you devil

I would save all your personal data to the PC desktop. Wipe everything ( twice ), and then do a factory reset. Now odin flash back to whatever version of KK OS you want to run. Make sure you use a complete stock .tar firmware ( system/modem/bootloader ) from xda or sammoblie has them. Once you flash back to stock, odin flash it again to make sure everything installs. Then root and reinstall your data. If you do a lot of flashing from lollipop to KK, your going to have to take out the trash every once in while for lack of better words. I do a lot of flashing and end going back to bone stock about once a week, this helps from corrupting vital programs like efs. So in other words there is no magic pill. For more info click my signature the versions of KK might be different but the procedure is the same.

Downgrading official lollipop (XEO) to Kitkat (BTU)
Hello Note 3 users. I would like to ask (maybe someone already tried) to downgrade official (not leaked one with bugs as was mentioned) lollipop to kitkat? My phone originally had BTU kitkat, but I wanted to test lollipop and downloaded one from sammobile (XEO). Flashed as it was described in Sammobile website, everything went well. Rom is working well, but gps takes ages to fix, and only a few satellites. They are always lost while driving. Because of this reason I would like to come back to BTU kitkat again (get gps working normally again and receive future OTA updates). Can I flash Kitkat like it's described in sammobile? Wouldn't I mess the bootloader or something? (XEO Lollipop to BTU Kitkat)
I successfully downgraded from Samsung's official 5.0 to 4.4.2. I wiped the phone first in recovery. Then flashed using Odin version 3.09.
My Note 3 is an SM-N9005.
After receiving the 5.0 update yesterday for my Note 3 (product code XSI) and not liking it very much I will be downgrading again. At least the newer build in the XSI ROM seems more stable than the BTU ROM I tried before but I will still downgrade. One of my favourite apps, Delayed Lock, isn't working on 5.0.

[Q] How to update to 5.0.1

Hi,
Im from the netherlands and noticed that the update for 5.0.1 is available.
I have the Exynos (N910C) version android 4.4.4 rooted installed now.
I have changed dpi settings true xposed.
What is the best way to update to the new version 5.0.1 ?
Thanks,
Roy
I have used the auto root to root the stock rom.
N910C is Exynos, not Snapdragon, so choose your ROM carefully.
Best way to upgrade is to backup everything first, then install new ROM with Odin (download correct version from sammobile), then root using your method of choice (I personally recommend flashing TWRP recovery and choose root on exit).
After that, you can restore everything you need from the backups.

Your device was rooted and no way to upgrade 5.0.1 via OTA. The only way now is download latest Firmware (for your Area) on Sammobile.com or similar website then using Odin to upgrade. Remember: full wipe on recovery first then flashing FW via Odin on Downloadmod.
Thanks for the awnsers. i meant the Exynos, sorry for that.
I havent tryed to update it true normal update way becouse i thought this wasnt possible as my device is rooted.
So i might try if i can do this?
Roy
OTA will fail because you tripped Knox when you rooted.
Besides, lollipop brings a new bootloader, modem and csc, so even if you choose to flash a custom lollipop ROM, you still need to upgrade those using Odin.

thanks,
I have installed the 5.0.1 version true odin without doing a full wipe. I still have all my apps and files and it seems to work oke.
Did i have to do a full because of the battery draining stuff? or is it oke like this?
Roy
Should be fine as it is, but a full wipe once in a while never hurts...
If you notice something wrong, battery drain, lag or even applications force-close, then why not... perform a full wipe and restore your apps and settings gradually.
Make sure you backup everything, i failed my stock update to android 5..0.1 (OTA), and now i still didnt found anyway to get my data back, it remains dead there
Titanium Backup FTW

A few simple questions

I have 7 questions, I will +Thank you for all your answers.
1. I'm still on 4.4.2 [XXUFNB9], is that even the latest KitKat? Since people keep telling me to stay on KitKat, not to update to 5.0.1.
2. Second question, since my CSC is [NEEFNB2] which should be NEE region, that should mean that the latest 5.0.1 via OTA is [XXUHOD7] which was released on 2015-May-01. Isn't that outdated?
Source: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9505/NEE/
3. Now if I look at the latest releases, starting from DBT region which is Germany and a lot of others, the latest 5.0.1 for the i9505 is [XXUHOH2] released 2015-September-01. Compared to my NEE region release date, my 5.0.1 update would be outdated right?
4. Last few questions, if I were to update to 5.0.1 via OTA, is going back to KitKat as easy as flashing PDA via Odin including the factory wipe in recovery? Will that trigger Knox?
5. Going back to KitKat from Lollipop I would still be using the Lollipop modem on KitKat, is that bad and why?
Source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62947457&postcount=11
6. I've read a lot about Knox 0x1 and there are a lot of weird explanations about it.
Someone use to say is that you stop receiving OTA updates. Others say is that Knox can't make a container? Whatever that means.
Is the only negative thing Knox 0x1 that you lose your warranty? I dont have that anyway, so why all the fuss about 0x1 if it's only warranty?
7. What's the experience on the latest 5.0.1 [XXUHOH2] OR latest for NEE region [XXUHOD7] if someone has it?

The answer to all your questions:
You worry to much. Region is not that important. And who tells you to stay on Kitkat? I wouldn't want to run outdated software on my phone. So just upgrade and you can always downgrade. There are guides in the general section on how to do that. For questions about knox there is a whole thread about it. Also not really important in your case.
Even better would be to flash the CM so you are really on the latest Android version 5.1.1.

Because for some reason this this one is actually running perfectly, I have no complains yet.
The thing is it is running better than my last KitKat rom, faster in opening apps and smoother scrolling without skipping frames as much.
Battery life? It's repporting 3 days left atm, so I suppose it's the same as it was on KitKat, but will see.
