Hi guys,
Hitting wall with this S5 since .nomedia file for me doesn't work. I have an app installed in internal memory, which has some pictures in it for its operation. Now this pictures show up in gallery which is really annoying as there are about 30folders(gallery lists as albums..)
I tried full reset gallery + media storage apps, restart phone. Gallery opens, clear first and within couple seconds again full of that crap.... Now is there any solution on this? I don't really want to download apps since troubleshooting when they crash is even bigger pain....

I also have had problems with the stock gallery dsiplaying some .nomedia directories, i use quickpic though and it works flawlessly there, theres even an option in it to hide folders, so its not an issue for me. According to google this is a widespread issue, and suprise suprise a solution i saw was use quickpic.

But that's complete rubbish, what's the point to pay premium for a phone which is not even capable to do basics? I get really annoyed lately with samsung... They keep removing useful features one after another with each new model release.... Instead put loads of rubbish apps which never gets used...
So how does quickpic work then? Surely there should be a way to manually do same ?

Something you can try is force stopping the gallery then clear the cache and data, open it, then repeat a few times till it works. Quickpic works like a gallery lol, just download it yourself and play with it, if you long press a folder theres a menu option to hide it.

I didn't post this in the post root problems because up until yesterday I had no problems and have had root since it was made available.
I can't view jpg files in my file explorer any more. I was using Astro up until yesterday but the beta expired so I downloaded Estrongs, which I love, other than the fact that I can't click on a jpg thumbnail to view it. I get "Sorry, cannot start this application" at the bottom of the screen. I was using Astro viewer as default prior to uninstalling it, but assumed I would be prompted to reset a new default program. Ive cleared any defaults on the camera as well.
Maybe it should be mentioned that I also thought it might be a limitation of Estrongs so I tried Root Explorer and same deal there. I take a lot of pics with my phone and look at them quite often so I need to figure this one out. If anyone has any ideas on what to try I would sincerely appreciate it.
Worst case scenario I deal until the devs here earn some more donations by giving us CM6......hopefully.
Is MMS still working for you?
I've got the same issue.
No Pictures and no MMS possible.
In my case, I guess, its because I deleted Mediascape (and or the Gallery App?).
As I don't have any BackUps, I'm waiting till next Root release, and will not delete them anymore...
Try downloading another picture viewer - like Piqture for example, and see if you still have the same problem..
Japp, that did the Trick for me. Gallery within PiQture works, and MMS are available again
Thanks Pal.
Nope i tried piQture and im still getting the same notifications. I also have just pictures installed and i dont even get asked to set it as default.
I can get the mms and see the thumbnail view of it in my conversations, but when i touch the pic to enlarge it, i get the error? Really irritating :-[

Well i reinstalled astro and everything is fine now. My annoyance is that i actually wanted to use Estrongs. Liked the feel of it better. It must occur since i uninstalled mediascape and astro had the only image viewer. Other 3rd party apps just didnt work as well. Now i have to stare at the adds in astro :-(

Why doesn't the gallery organize photos by date? They all seem to be put randomly in the camera album

Happened on the Nexus One. Try a reboot. Should fix

Unfortunately a reboot did not fix it for me. It's pretty weird, as the order is not random, it just doesn't make any sense.

Like the thumbnails are different, and then when you go into the picture it changes to what it is... Right? It could be something as simple as the thumbnails made for that specific picture were misplaced by the system on accident. I don't know, I thought a reboot fixed it, but I have the same issue and I thought that fixed it for me, but it still remains.
If thumbnails are the problem you could try clearing the cache on the Gallery app in Settings/Applications/Manage apps.
Also, you could delete all the thumbnail files in the /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails folder. They should regenerate next time you reboot the phone, or remount the sdcard to the phone (after usb disconnect).

I have that same sorting issue and restarting helps. But I've been losing pictures. Once i get to 100 pictures i start losing the newest ones. Has anybody had this so far?

Yes, new pictures disappear for me as well.
There are a slew of bugs with Gingerbread (ringtone changing randomly is another one that constantly reoccurs).
BUMP.
I"ve reported the problem to Google. Please visit link and star. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13419
If anyone else is experiencing disappearing photographs in their Gallery, please visit link and star the issue so attention is brought to it: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13419
Anybody notice if you use two fingers in the Gallery album section, you create a mini slide show? Neat feature.
Hello everyone.
I've just realized that after making a video if I delete it and shoot another one the little preview on the file shows the previous and deleted video,it does not match,so I have to go through all the videos in order for me to see the one I want to send or watch.
Has anyone had this issue?
Thanks so much.
Yep
Yep
having same issues with my streak....must have something to do with Album Art Caching....need to write an app for this...
Thank you very much for your reply.I thought I was the only one experiencing this.
Anybody else?
Last night I called Dell and they are gonna send me a new device, since this one is not even a week old.
Yeah me too.. a bit annoying but I got over it pretty quickly.
We all should report this,Dell needs to know, the more the better.
Did you find an app for this? any workaround?
Thanks.
Little workaround
I think I have just found a little workaround to solve this issue.I put my videos on a different folder on my computer, this is what I did after that:
-Go to sdcard (use Astro,Linda, windows file explorer will work too)then go to DCIM,you will see two folders camera and .thumbnails (just delete this one only)
Once you have deleted that one put the videos back on the camera folder, then take a look at the gallery on your streak, now the videos should be showing the real preview.
If you delete one of the videos the issue will be back and you will have to start the process over. After messing a little bit more with this folder I can see it does work.So if you come across the same bug give it a shot.
just initiate a new media scan..
Ok...I know it sounds very stupid specially after trying so many steps, but how can I do that....I'm sure I'm missing something.
Thanks.

Your phone should do a media scan when you restart, if that doesn't clear up the problem you can try an app like Rescan Media. It forces a media rescan without a reboot. There are others, that was the first I found.
Ok...I think I got it this time.Maybe it is one of the apps that do not autostart when I turn on the device,I use autostarts to disable apps and I must have disabled something that was not supossed to be off.
Thanks.
Does anyone know what the DCMProvider.apk does?
It's a big app, and keeps running in the background.
I've traced all the other bloatware apps, besides this one.
Direct connect manager provider
I'm freezing it, nothing happens

Nope I think it's not the Direct connect provider...
It has to do with the Samsung Gallery.
When you add this apk, then you can make categories in the left menu of the Gallery (Like: Pets, People, Vehicles, documents etc.)
If you remove the DCMProvider apk then this is not possible.

Personally I do use QuickPic, but I need it (full functioning Samsung Gallery) for my own rom (XtreStoLite)
What I know is that it is draining my battery. Are you sure it is related to gallery? It was on stand-by while it started..
i just saw this thing acces my agenda, i have no idea why a gallery related app would need to check my agenda
wish i could root and custom rom this s5 asap hehe

by chance would backing up direct connect manager with titanium backup backup the custom folders in Samsung gallery ?
tried to backup gallery but when I restore it doesn't recreate the custom folders that you make and the pictures when you move them into the folders.
I had too much problem with this file, so i have freeze dcmprovider
Frozen since day one. Always been a problem.

Nothing beats QuickPic. Nothing nothing nothing.
Please, don't go off-topic.
In these days this apk is wasting my battery life.. I can't understand what's the problem.
I changed my SD card with a brand new one.. But nothing..
Dcmprovider
Just to update this thread. I found on my Galaxy S5 the Samsung Fit Widget was causing the dcmprovider apk to remain active and drain the battery. Once I removed the widget the dcmprovider apk use very little processing/battery time.
Mike
Thank You but I don't have that widget.. But I think that I DCMprovider started draining my battery after last Samsung S Health (big) update.. is this a coincidence?!
I can't freeze Samsung Health because i use (sometime) the heart monitor.. that's a shame.. I don't use other Fit features..
I fixed deleting some garbage from internal sd. I thought that the problem was on external sd. But some file in the internal sd card was "broken". I'll never know what file and why..
It comes back again.. I have no words..

It is driving me insane!!! Have such problem like you on my S5+ (G901F).
No chance ... every time it comes back. :silly:
Draining my extended battery much. Never had such issues with One m8
or z2...
Try to clean as much "temp files" you can.
I can say that with Lollipop I have no problems (or maybe they have changed the battery stats?).
I can't uninstall or freeze this app. It's been using 20% poer in the ladt 24 hrs. Any suggestiob?
Deleted......My bad.

Ello!
So, if I delete pictures via the gallery, they DO delete, however after an hour or so, or after a restart, the pictures return. Im on Omega 10 if that helps at all.
The fact they return after a restart makes me think its due to the media scanner, however if that's the case then does that mean the gallery app is not deleting the pictures really?
Cheers for any advise!

To give more information I can confirm I don't have any sync switched on in accounts and don't have or use the picasa app...
If it helps, the pictures are stored on my external SD card.
after you delete all gallery pictures, go to settings - application manager, and find the gallery app. tap it to get to the information screen, then clear cache and clear data.
Then exit out of that and restart the gallery app. that should take care of any "leftovers"
