DCMProvider.apk - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know what the DCMProvider.apk does?
It's a big app, and keeps running in the background.
I've traced all the other bloatware apps, besides this one.

Direct connect manager provider
I'm freezing it, nothing happens

Nope I think it's not the Direct connect provider...
It has to do with the Samsung Gallery.
When you add this apk, then you can make categories in the left menu of the Gallery (Like: Pets, People, Vehicles, documents etc.)
If you remove the DCMProvider apk then this is not possible.

Personally I do use QuickPic, but I need it (full functioning Samsung Gallery) for my own rom (XtreStoLite)

What I know is that it is draining my battery. Are you sure it is related to gallery? It was on stand-by while it started..

i just saw this thing acces my agenda, i have no idea why a gallery related app would need to check my agenda
wish i could root and custom rom this s5 asap hehe

by chance would backing up direct connect manager with titanium backup backup the custom folders in Samsung gallery ?
tried to backup gallery but when I restore it doesn't recreate the custom folders that you make and the pictures when you move them into the folders.

I had too much problem with this file, so i have freeze dcmprovider

Frozen since day one. Always been a problem.

Nothing beats QuickPic. Nothing nothing nothing.

Please, don't go off-topic.
In these days this apk is wasting my battery life.. I can't understand what's the problem.
I changed my SD card with a brand new one.. But nothing..

Dcmprovider
Just to update this thread. I found on my Galaxy S5 the Samsung Fit Widget was causing the dcmprovider apk to remain active and drain the battery. Once I removed the widget the dcmprovider apk use very little processing/battery time.
Mike

Thank You but I don't have that widget.. But I think that I DCMprovider started draining my battery after last Samsung S Health (big) update.. is this a coincidence?!
I can't freeze Samsung Health because i use (sometime) the heart monitor.. that's a shame.. I don't use other Fit features..

I fixed deleting some garbage from internal sd. I thought that the problem was on external sd. But some file in the internal sd card was "broken". I'll never know what file and why..

It comes back again.. I have no words..

It is driving me insane!!! Have such problem like you on my S5+ (G901F).
No chance ... every time it comes back. :silly:
Draining my extended battery much. Never had such issues with One m8
or z2...

Try to clean as much "temp files" you can.
I can say that with Lollipop I have no problems (or maybe they have changed the battery stats?).

I can't uninstall or freeze this app. It's been using 20% poer in the ladt 24 hrs. Any suggestiob?

Deleted......My bad.

what is UID 10014?

its always the second biggest user of battery on my phone. starting to piss me off
i've also got a UID 10023 running at the bottom
under sensor usage for spare parts its telling me that the gallery has been active for 2 hours and 27 minutes. that can't be good
I dont remember what it is but the uid numbers are processes that are running. They are assigned a number. There is an app on the market that will tell you what the actual name of the process is fir that uid number. Ill see if I can find it again
Edit: its called android system info by electricsheep

There is an app called "Quick System info Pro". If you install it from the Market, open it and click on the processes tab. There it will list all the running processes on your phone. If you long press anything in the list, it will give you a list of options. One of them is "details". If you use that option it will give you the UID of that process(among other things). As for the Gallery issue, it sounds like you are running a ROM or theme which installs the stock Gallery. The stock 3d Gallery has a known bug where it continues to use the G-sensors even after shutting the gallery down. Mammon made a fixed version of the stock gallery for Bonsai ROM.

question.... under the "safe to remove apk" thread it says not to remove gallery 3d apk, but the odex is ok. is that correct? i just remove the odex and it will end the bug?

Not sure why it wouldn't be safe to remove. Many of us removed it a while back and replaced it with Quickpic from the market while we were waiting for a fix. There were no ill side effects. Just removing the odex file won't fix the bug.

Since it sounds like your stock odexed, I don't think that Mammons gallery will work as a replacement for you. But Quickpic is actually better IMO.

GO SMS Pro just released an update that will make it's process NOT run in the background.
You may want to try that instead of handcent, it's free and great

think i'll give it a shot
Also if you have popups enabled in handcent it can drain ur battery as it will wake the phone from sleep, not sure if this is still a problem but in the past iirc the popup notification caused a lot of unnessacary battery drain... so that might also be the culprit still handcent tho, I haven't noticed any abnormal battery drain since turning off the popup notifications...

hey man, your can charge the battery whenever you want but never let a full discharge happen unless you are recalibrating, it's a bad thing for modern batteries.

1. Probably won't help.
2. True
3. Meh
4. ?
5. Why?
6. Gmail sync is very efficient. Using Exchange or IMAP will kill your battery faster.
7. Talk is no problem. Can't speak for the included IM, but you are probably right.
8. True
9. No no no. Why would you want your apps on a slower media?
10. ?
11. Freeze them instead. Killing apps will, contrary to popular belief, not help your battery.
12. HELL NO! Charge it often and try to keep it above 50 %.
So in other words don't use your phone. Without those features,i may as well go back to my nokia 3210

hi,
firstly there are different kinds of wakelocks.
Also its just not that simple to disable any wakelock
You have to id which app / setting, is causing said wakelock.
then take the necessary action.
eg Google location, in settings, (if you enable it,) drains battery quite badly, and it creates certain wakelocks that wakes device as it is necessary, to id you location. Fix in this case is to turn off Google location.
i would if i was you install Better battery stats app or Wakelock detector app and take it from there to id the culprit
good luck

If you are using without any lock method (no pincode, password or fingerprint) then it's fine. But if you are using any lock method you need to modify with app setting app called Keyguardtestactivity and change dpi to 640 and checkbox name "Apply res to widgets" and then reboot. Also if you are using Xposed framework please take a look this one because there is some weird problems when you are using Xposed Framework on Note but this one fix it.
well..if u still can't use whatsapp..try to delete the whatsapp from titanium backup and then search for whatsapp+ v6.15..not the new one..i think the new one is 6.26..that one is always crashing for me in my note 4..don't know why..seems a bug..but if using 6.15 it will work fine..just delete the whatsapp and then install v6.15 whatsapp+ and restore the data via titanium backup..

[Q] Exclude folders from gallery (nomedia)

Hi guys,
Hitting wall with this S5 since .nomedia file for me doesn't work. I have an app installed in internal memory, which has some pictures in it for its operation. Now this pictures show up in gallery which is really annoying as there are about 30folders(gallery lists as albums..)
I tried full reset gallery + media storage apps, restart phone. Gallery opens, clear first and within couple seconds again full of that crap.... Now is there any solution on this? I don't really want to download apps since troubleshooting when they crash is even bigger pain....

I also have had problems with the stock gallery dsiplaying some .nomedia directories, i use quickpic though and it works flawlessly there, theres even an option in it to hide folders, so its not an issue for me. I also have had problems with the stock gallery dsiplaying some .nomedia directories, i use quickpic though and it works flawlessly there, theres even an option in it to hide folders, so its not an issue for me. But that's complete rubbish, what's the point to pay premium for a phone which is not even capable to do basics? I get really annoyed lately with samsung... They keep removing useful features one after another with each new model release.... Instead put loads of rubbish apps which never gets used...
So how does quickpic work then? Surely there should be a way to manually do same ?

Something you can try is force stopping the gallery then clear the cache and data, open it, then repeat a few times till it works. Quickpic works like a gallery lol, just download it yourself and play with it, if you long press a folder theres a menu option to hide it.

Phone been acting weird... need help

My phone has been acting really weird for a few months now and I can't figure it out. Is there a way to find all apps on the phone user installed, system, and hidden?? My phone isnt rooted; well I havent rooted it nor does it say it has. For instance earlier when I pushed my volume button there was an accessibility guy there nothing would open when I pushed him and while looking threw my accessibility settings and checking here and there to see if he was still there, he just vanishes without me turning anything off. Like WTF. Theres other weird things but that's just the most recent 1. And it's got me very concerned. Pls help!!
Your probably have a setting on in Accessibility like visibility enhancements or screen reader, you'll need to turn it off.
For list of apps you can view them in Settings > Apps ( Tap the 3 dots on the top right and tap "Show system apps" )

That's what I thought at first so I went threw my accessibility settings and they r all off. He hasn't been back so far that I have noticed. I know there r some spyware and malware that u can hide from being seen or make it look like some random app. Is there a way to use like adb or android studio to scan it for something that shouldn't be there.

I'm not sure too much about malware, I do know that Samsung has their own "Security Features" in Settings > Device Care > Security if you want to scan your device, also try Play Protect.
Seeing that the Accessibility issues are out of the way, what other problems are you experiencing ?

I saw the guy again but this time I kinda got to look at the running services and I found this. Could that have something to do with it?? As u can kinda tell, once I forced stopped that cloud messaging service the time changed on it and went under the dual messenger service. But as I was saying beforehand, google play services always had a pop up saying using headphones in the background. But my data doubled in the last 2-3 months, things I download will just disappear and pictures (like my phone will restore itself a few days but not my messages or calls), my phone also keeps adding a new camera gallery like it's not connected anymore and is a new camera same with the screenshot folder. Theres also a few other things

So Cloud Messaging's time would change because after you stopped the process it restarted itself. But the other things make it look like your phone is being haunted
Can you send your list of installed Applications ?

You sure do have alot of apps. I'm not from your country so I'm not 100% of what all your apps do.
But these are the apps that look suspicious to me :
AnyMusic
Device Info (Multiple Apps)
Downloader
I-Say
InboxDollars
Lucky Dice,Money,Pusher
Match to Win
McAfee Security
Mobile Performance Meter
Movie Hunt
MP3 Music Download
Music Downloader
Numerology
Phone INFO
Phone Reveal
QuickShortcutMaker
S'more
Scam Sheild
Shortcut Master (Lite)
Step Younger+
TextNow
Torrent Movies
Tubi
If I were you, I'd get rid of them.
If this doesn't fix your issues. I recommend you reset the device and do not install apps like this.

The one on the left is your recovery. The one on the right is Download Mode (Used to reinstall firmware via PC)

Sorry. I see it now. I'm not sure why that is. I have never seen that before in my life, it's very weird.
I recommend you backup your files and reinstall the firmware.
Thank u so much for u help but I think I'm actually gonna root this phone and get rid of some of these odd apps and that work profile that I have no idea how to get into. Now to just find and download everything I need to do just that. Lol
