[Q] Pictures Keep Returning... - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Ello!
So, if I delete pictures via the gallery, they DO delete, however after an hour or so, or after a restart, the pictures return. Im on Omega 10 if that helps at all.
The fact they return after a restart makes me think its due to the media scanner, however if that's the case then does that mean the gallery app is not deleting the pictures really?
Cheers for any advise!

To give more information I can confirm I don't have any sync switched on in accounts and don't have or use the picasa app...

If it helps, the pictures are stored on my external SD card.

after you delete all gallery pictures, go to settings - application manager, and find the gallery app. tap it to get to the information screen, then clear cache and clear data.
Then exit out of that and restart the gallery app. that should take care of any "leftovers"

Yeah, ive tried this several times over and it still returns, no idea why.

Hmm, randomly I think I fixed it... Omega comes with two galleries... I should have used the other one :s

facebook and HTC Album

I love the intergraded facebook functionality, specially the photo feature to view them in HTC Album.
Now I can view albums from a lot of users, but from some others I can't.. while in the standalone facebook app, which sucks compared to HTC Album, I can view the albums ok.
Now this could be due to certain facebook account/privacy settings, but I've tried about every setting I can find in facebook but my own albums won't show up in HTC Album.
Am I missing a setting? or is this just a known bug?
I've set the permissions for the albums to "Everyone", as well as the photo application permission settings itself. And the profile share privacy settings for photos is checked (and everything else just to make sure) but still they won't show.. they do show in the standalone facebook app but I would really like them to show up in HTC Album.
Any advice or help is much appreciated!
Had the same issue, apparently it's about the privacy settings of the users. If some of them don't have their picture in your phone, it means that your phone was unable to retrieve it due to some settings they made in their original facebook account

I understand that, but what about my own albums?
Up for this question!
Can you guys see your own albums just fine on HTC album?
It says "The user has no albums to display"
but I know I have albums!

I just had this issue, then realised that I recently changed my facebook password and didnt reflect this in the integrated version. So now, it tells me that I have albums, but the images wont load up...the loading animation just goes around in circles.....
Yes I can see mine no problem at all.

that happend to the albums of the ones that I could see when I had the camera icon disabled in the registry.. if you've also done that, turn it back on..
I am quit new to facebook and the users that I can see albums from are quit long term users.. maybe it takes a while... or it has something to do with new facebook accounts..
Yes with similar problem too. I can see the album names but no pictures can be displayed, HTC Album only shows me a 'forbidden-like' icon. The problem will not occur while the ROM is freshly installed, but will happen after few days.

Try this?
Hope it works for you.
I just got my HD2 from tmobile yesterday. Initially, I was able to view contacts' facebook photos either through the facebook app or directly from their contact page. However, for some reason, I am no longer able to (I either get "Fetching" eternally, when using the app, or "user has no albums to display" when trying through contacts).
Obviously I'm using the factory ROM, I've tried a hard reset (no luck) and have also tried ensuring that the relevant cache is properly set, but my problem remains.
Edit: I also get an error if I attempt to go through Albums to the facebook user.
i have the same issue... one contact i can see the albums the others i don't
Also, my phone info:
ROM: 2.10.531.1 (82076) WWE
Manilla: 2.5.20121412.1
Fresh off of a hard reset, first thing I tried was the facebook app, and it hangs on "fetching."
Same here...I have tried different Rom's too and it's the same. I believe it has to do something related to the new facebook privacy settings...possible a setting on each individual profile to block external application from accessing?
mine hangs on 'fetching' also, us hd2.....
it seems implausible that it is a facebook privacy setting: mine works sometimes, and it does not seem to depend on the user either. one time, after a hard reset, i could see one friend's photos, but only for a few hours. then it hung on fetching. I'm using the factory us tmobile rom and trying to view facebook albums immediatly after a hard reset. some user's photos will show (consistently) others will show (but will stop displaying after a short period), and some won't show at all. it is not consistent across users.
is the facebook app simply bad? does it work consistently for anyone? if so, what are.your settings, if you don't mind sharing? i'd really appreciate any help, this seems like too significant a feature to simply not work, i'm hoping that i'm just missing something. thanks
edit: starting a new thread. having re-read the OP's problem, mine (and some of the others') problems do seem substantially different.
I am having the, "i cant see my own photos" problem. Every thing else seems to work fine. I would just like my own pics to load so i can tag them when i upload them
I even tried installing the app to storage card instead of using the cooked in app in the NRG rom. The Tilt 2's we used before didnt have this problem and i just checked my daughters app this morning on her tilt 2 and its working normal. Though mine and my wifes HD2's dont get 3g, we have even tried on WIFI
Tried This?
I experienced a similar problem recently. Heres what I did -
-Downloaded the newest FB app from Windows Marketplace.
-Input user name and password and confirmed it working and could view
albums in the app itself
-Turned off automatic updates, then turned back on
After that, the albums seemed to work and fully load. Essentially what I think happened in my case was I had an older version, downloaded a new one and never reset my FB settings on the HD2 settings tab for data services (so it didnt see me as an allowed user, rather a "guest" FB account trying to view an album). Then I could access HTC Albums and see all the pictures again. Again, may work for you, may not. Just an idea that worked for me.
Definitely worth trying tho.
Good luck, let me know if it helps anyone.
That didnt help me at all. Its random and i had my pics load in the app a couple times, with only place holders, no thumbs, but its after logging out in sense and restarting. Only some times though. Most of the time it just sits there loading forever
I can see all my pics in the albums just fine at all times, and i see all others too. Im just trying to get the app to load them so i can tag if i need to, like the other day when i found out this problem exsists
I figured out a way (a trick) to get my photos to load so i can go in and tag. I setup facebook app to rotate in BSB tweaks and now when i go to my photos in facebook app and it sits there with the animate loading, i just turn my phone and the place holders show up. Good enough! Then flip the phone back and go in and tag the mobile uploads.

Mediascape - What now!?

Ok so before when viewing photos in mediascape I learned that you could tap the mail icon and there would be an option to upload to my picasa web album. Well suddenly it is no longer available?? The only thing that ive done to change anything on my phone since this took place is to install Helixlauncher, which I don't think would screw with that.
Any thoughts??

In order to basically get back to where you started (option to upload picasa web album) you'll need to follow some basic steps....
1. Uninstall Helixlaucher
2. Stop asking silly questions
3. Wouldn't you think that if everything was as you wanted it before you installed an app, things went "wrong" after installation of said app, that it only stands to reason if you uninstall that very same app, you'll be at square one again?
4. Now THIS was a problem. (Just read my friend. Just read)
Which was solved with a little bit of know how!

"Gallery" Crashes and CPU Hog after JI6 Update

Since I received the OTA update, WatchDog has notified me several times that the Gallery is a CPU hog, using 78-80% resources. I have to kill it to stop.
Anyone else have this issue?
Things that I have done to try and fix the problem:
- Blank removable card , still have the same issues.
- I did a complete wipe/factory reset and still have the same issues.
- I cleared data through System Settings which recreated thumbnails and other data, still have the same issues.

i hope this doesn't start a debate but...lol...
i just run advanced task killer and i add my core apps to the ignore list. then i change the atk's settings so it kills everything else everytime the screen goes off. kill interval i set to 'crazy'. works for me.
BUMP
Nobody else is having this issue? I just received the message again, multiple times I day, but this time I havent even used the Gallery since I rebooted my phone.
No, I'm not having this issue at all. And luckyduck, you really shouldn't use task killers especially with those settings. Use Auto Killer instead. It used Android's built-in memory management system and tweaks it.
I had this happen when it did it's first media scan but only the first time after first boot from JI6
Havent checked CPU usage, but my Gallery is buggy since the update.
Alot of times, when in Messaging App, selecting Attach, then Pictures, freezes. It will show me the Gallery background with no folder/photo options.
This happens sometimes when opening the gallery itself as well. I will see the reflective gallery background without any photos.
My gallery always lags upon opening n sometimes freezes... So i know what u mean...

I've had the same exact issue as you.
Starting when the update came through, after every reboot, Watchdog notifies me that Gallery is hogging anywhere from 40-60% CPU. It behaves this way for a few minutes and then goes back down to normal CPU usage.
Not sure what it's doing after we reboot but it never did this before JI6.

Just to add I've also had this. Only apparent resolution is to return to home screen and try again. Usually works the second time..

As is mine. Sometimes it just freezes all together and I have to take out the battery. This is since J16 update. I am hoping to find a new pic viewer because this is crazy!
I've been having the issue also, but I've been able to recover out of it to avoid taking the battery out. Just takes a few seconds to get out of the gallery and close the gallery app. Usually works after that.

This happens to me also. Every time I reboot and go to Gallery for the first time it freezes, a few times it locked up my phone like an old PC Windows OS. It just froze. Reboot is the only way back.
This must have something to with building its initial cache? Just thinking because its on the first start after boot. Wonder if its a bug in writing the initial cache. The Gallery is based on a program called Cool Iris, the web version uses rss feeds to display the effect. I have worked on web sites with this code. I have yet to find the code in the galaxy and am not yet familiar with the stand alone program. Its all packaged up in one big app.
Be nice to have a fix for the fix.....
This happened before I installed OCLF 2. and after installation OCLF on JI6 official via ODIN, Accurate battery mod and Mobile AP mod.
Edit 1: I just started Gallery for a test and it locked up on "loading image". This time i just let it sit. It stayed frozen for 7 minutes then the screen went blank. After that without touching it, the phone rebooted itself and started back up. I'd say this is no small bug. Crud.
Edit 2: If I can get to open once without a crash, I can open and close it a few times and it gets faster. If I leave alone and do not open it for a view hours it starts slow again but does not crash. Talk about lag! Its like 30 seconds to load. Yuck, not a good bug fix if it causes new bugs...
Well, I feel better knowing I'm not the only one with this issue. It's really frustrating to want to show off pictures only to have to wait five minutes to cycle through the rebooting process. What a drag.
I would just like to add that another thing I noticed after the update is that sometimes when I snap a picture and switch over to the gallery to view it, the gallery won't even show the most recently snapped photo. Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't, but when it doesn't show, I back out of the gallery and go back in one or two times for it to show up.
I just noticed this today too. Was working fine before. I did note in the JI6 update that there was a Kernel revision...I wonder if it was for the gallery "Kernel: 3D library patch"
~SB
I wish we had a change log that was better then what was officially sent out; "... plus forty or more bug fixes..." that tells me zero. I can get more from a solo app writing Dev, that just did an upgrade to for his app. Anyone know of a decent change log?
I have not seen these issues widely reported either, anyone else?
As far the Gallery being a resource hog are you guys saying more than before the update? Because just the nature of the app, I would assume it would be just by it bells and whistles. The reason I ask is sometimes when an app is troubled or needs a fix they "fix" it just by giving it more priority to tap resources.
I'm just guessing here... my Gallery worked perfect before the update. As the Gallery goes, I don't even know what the original Ji6 fix was for. Shrug*~
Still a great phone. But I used to love to show off the gallery, I'm photographer and I have some final prints loaded. It was a great marketing tool to get my work in shops and galleries. The Galaxy S. Tab will be my walking portfolio, 'can't wait.

Why doesn't the gallery organize photos by date? They all seem to be put randomly in the camera album

Unfortunately a reboot did not fix it for me. It's pretty weird, as the order is not random, it just doesn't make any sense.

Like the thumbnails are different, and then when you go into the picture it changes to what it is... Right? It could be something as simple as the thumbnails made for that specific picture were misplaced by the system on accident. I don't know, I thought a reboot fixed it, but I have the same issue and I thought that fixed it for me, but it still remains.
If thumbnails are the problem you could try clearing the cache on the Gallery app in Settings/Applications/Manage apps.
Also, you could delete all the thumbnail files in the /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails folder. They should regenerate next time you reboot the phone, or remount the sdcard to the phone (after usb disconnect).

I have that same sorting issue and restarting helps. But I've been losing pictures. Once i get to 100 pictures i start losing the newest ones. Has anybody had this so far?

Yes, new pictures disappear for me as well.
There are a slew of bugs with Gingerbread (ringtone changing randomly is another one that constantly reoccurs).
BUMP.
I"ve reported the problem to Google. Please visit link and star. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13419

Anybody notice if you use two fingers in the Gallery album section, you create a mini slide show? Neat feature.

[Q] Exclude folders from gallery (nomedia)

Hi guys,
Hitting wall with this S5 since .nomedia file for me doesn't work. I have an app installed in internal memory, which has some pictures in it for its operation. Now this pictures show up in gallery which is really annoying as there are about 30folders(gallery lists as albums..)
I tried full reset gallery + media storage apps, restart phone. Gallery opens, clear first and within couple seconds again full of that crap.... Now is there any solution on this? I don't really want to download apps since troubleshooting when they crash is even bigger pain....

I also have had problems with the stock gallery dsiplaying some .nomedia directories, i use quickpic though and it works flawlessly there, theres even an option in it to hide folders, so its not an issue for me. According to google this is a widespread issue, and suprise suprise a solution i saw was use quickpic.

But that's complete rubbish, what's the point to pay premium for a phone which is not even capable to do basics? I get really annoyed lately with samsung... They keep removing useful features one after another with each new model release.... Instead put loads of rubbish apps which never gets used...
So how does quickpic work then? Surely there should be a way to manually do same ?

Something you can try is force stopping the gallery then clear the cache and data, open it, then repeat a few times till it works. Quickpic works like a gallery lol, just download it yourself and play with it, if you long press a folder theres a menu option to hide it.
