Why doesn't the gallery organize photos by date? They all seem to be put randomly in the camera album

Unfortunately a reboot did not fix it for me. It's pretty weird, as the order is not random, it just doesn't make any sense.

Like the thumbnails are different, and then when you go into the picture it changes to what it is... Right? It could be something as simple as the thumbnails made for that specific picture were misplaced by the system on accident. I don't know, I thought a reboot fixed it, but I have the same issue and I thought that fixed it for me, but it still remains.
If thumbnails are the problem you could try clearing the cache on the Gallery app in Settings/Applications/Manage apps.
Also, you could delete all the thumbnail files in the /sdcard/dcim/.thumbnails folder. They should regenerate next time you reboot the phone, or remount the sdcard to the phone (after usb disconnect).

I have that same sorting issue and restarting helps. But I've been losing pictures. Once i get to 100 pictures i start losing the newest ones. Has anybody had this so far?

Yes, new pictures disappear for me as well.
There are a slew of bugs with Gingerbread (ringtone changing randomly is another one that constantly reoccurs).
BUMP.
I"ve reported the problem to Google. Please visit link and star. http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13419
If anyone else is experiencing disappearing photographs in their Gallery, please visit link and star the issue so attention is brought to it: http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13419
Anybody notice if you use two fingers in the Gallery album section, you create a mini slide show? Neat feature.

Hey I'm wondering if anyone out there can help me out with my gallery app. It doesn't seem to pick up any pics I have on my sd card. I can take a pic and save it but will disappear from my gallery. I have to open the pic thru root explorer to view it. Does anybody know how to fix this problem? I've deleted my thumbnails and am guessing I deleted something I shouldn't have. I reflashed the stock rom and still have the same issue..Someone plz help
that used to happen to me too it fixes itself but it keeps doing it randomly no problem after i switched rom
Well nice to know my phone isnt the only one doing this..But I need a fix as i can't send any SMS messages since it wont read my pics
I have this issue as well. I can usually make it find new pics if I power-cycle the phone.

By power cycle do u mean reboot??
Yep. Turn off and back on. Then open the gallery, wait, and wait, and wait. They should eventually appear.

Nothing ever happens..Im thinking of deleting the .apk and installing the one from the market cause I've already tried everything
Hello everyone.
I've just realized that after making a video if I delete it and shoot another one the little preview on the file shows the previous and deleted video,it does not match,so I have to go through all the videos in order for me to see the one I want to send or watch.
Has anyone had this issue?
Thanks so much.
Yep
Yep
having same issues with my streak....must have something to do with Album Art Caching....need to write an app for this...
Thank you very much for your reply.I thought I was the only one experiencing this.
Anybody else?
Last night I called Dell and they are gonna send me a new device, since this one is not even a week old.
Yeah me too.. a bit annoying but I got over it pretty quickly.
We all should report this,Dell needs to know, the more the better.
Did you find an app for this? any workaround?
Thanks.
Little workaround
I think I have just found a little workaround to solve this issue.I put my videos on a different folder on my computer, this is what I did after that:
-Go to sdcard (use Astro,Linda, windows file explorer will work too)then go to DCIM,you will see two folders camera and .thumbnails (just delete this one only)
Once you have deleted that one put the videos back on the camera folder, then take a look at the gallery on your streak, now the videos should be showing the real preview.
If you delete one of the videos the issue will be back and you will have to start the process over. After messing a little bit more with this folder I can see it does work.So if you come across the same bug give it a shot.
just initiate a new media scan..
Ok...I know it sounds very stupid specially after trying so many steps, but how can I do that....I'm sure I'm missing something.
Thanks.

Your phone should do a media scan when you restart, if that doesn't clear up the problem you can try an app like Rescan Media. It forces a media rescan without a reboot. There are others, that was the first I found.
Ok...I think I got it this time.Maybe it is one of the apps that do not autostart when I turn on the device,I use autostarts to disable apps and I must have disabled something that was not supossed to be off.
Thanks.
As a complete newby I hope I am doing this correctly. My problem is that since updating to android 4.2.2 I have noticed that Gallery is not working. I have also rooted my Nexus 7 so is it possible that this is the problem. Any help would be much appreciated.

thats not a fix, its an alternative.
and he didnt ask for an alternative. he wants a solution to the problem.
OP, try a hard reset, this may help with the gallery npot opening
Does it show up under "All Apps"? I had a similar problem, and it was somehow disabled from there.. no idea why, but I just re enabled it.

You make it sound as if this is normal; it is not. Gallery works just fine.
Maybe the OP can specify the actual problem...

Yes it does show under all apps. Not quite sure what you mean by re enabled. If you mean touching it and placing it on the Home screen. I did that and it places it there but when I try to open it a window comes up saying "Unfortunately, Gallery has stopped". I have noticed that when I access the list of apps via "Settings" it is not listed, could this be the problem?

The problem is that when I try to open the Gallery it opens a message "Unfortunately Gallery has stopped". I have just noticed that I get the same message when I try to open the camera app.
Do you by any chance have Google+ installed ?
I've had a problem with my JellyBean Gallery on my HTC Evo 3D after i installed Google+, clearing Google+ and Gallery cache and data fixed the Gallery.

Did you clear cache and data of Google+ AND Gallery itself ?
If you did then try remembering if you installed any new app(s) recently and uninstall them.

I cleared cache and data of Google+., but and this may be the problem Gallery is not listed in the Apps list under settings.
I have just rooted my Nexus 7 so I may have to go back to the beginning. Thanks for help though.:crying:

When you go to the Apps in the Settings SWIPE TWICE to the left for section ALL and then scroll down to the Gallery.

Thanks very much. That worked, which allowed me to clear the data and cache, but the same window appears even after completely shutting the device down and restarting. As I said earlier I think I will have to un-root the device and start again.

Perhaps you should look at logcat and see if it has anything of use in it. Perhaps you have a corrupt image, although I'd think the media scanner would just skip it.

Hi guys,
Hitting wall with this S5 since .nomedia file for me doesn't work. I have an app installed in internal memory, which has some pictures in it for its operation. Now this pictures show up in gallery which is really annoying as there are about 30folders(gallery lists as albums..)
I tried full reset gallery + media storage apps, restart phone. Gallery opens, clear first and within couple seconds again full of that crap.... Now is there any solution on this? I don't really want to download apps since troubleshooting when they crash is even bigger pain....

I also have had problems with the stock gallery dsiplaying some .nomedia directories, i use quickpic though and it works flawlessly there, theres even an option in it to hide folders, so its not an issue for me. According to google this is a widespread issue, and suprise suprise a solution i saw was use quickpic.

But that's complete rubbish, what's the point to pay premium for a phone which is not even capable to do basics? I get really annoyed lately with samsung... They keep removing useful features one after another with each new model release.... Instead put loads of rubbish apps which never gets used...
So how does quickpic work then? Surely there should be a way to manually do same ?

Something you can try is force stopping the gallery then clear the cache and data, open it, then repeat a few times till it works. Quickpic works like a gallery lol, just download it yourself and play with it, if you long press a folder theres a menu option to hide it.

Ello!
So, if I delete pictures via the gallery, they DO delete, however after an hour or so, or after a restart, the pictures return. Im on Omega 10 if that helps at all.
The fact they return after a restart makes me think its due to the media scanner, however if that's the case then does that mean the gallery app is not deleting the pictures really?
Cheers for any advise!

To give more information I can confirm I don't have any sync switched on in accounts and don't have or use the picasa app...
If it helps, the pictures are stored on my external SD card.
after you delete all gallery pictures, go to settings - application manager, and find the gallery app. tap it to get to the information screen, then clear cache and clear data.
Then exit out of that and restart the gallery app. that should take care of any "leftovers"
