I need 2 quick yes or no questions answered.
So I got the notification for android lollipop update today. I was wondering if I updated to lollipop can i still root my phone using http://www.w0lfdroid.com/2014/09/To...54968248450075":"og.likes"}&action_ref_map=[] method of rooting? Is there a way to have the phone rooted with lolipop?
P.S. I tried searching Google n the forums first I promise. I do however get lost easily in forums n what to post where so please forgive me if I did anything wrong posting this. :-/
I'd be grateful to know too!
I just accepted the last up date a couple weeks ago and it uprooted my phone. It took alot to get root back. Will I lose it again if I get this update? Is there a way to reroot & is the update worth the trouble? Thanks so much y'all, in advance, for your help!
Please make your own thread after searching the forums and google instead of hijacking my thread with a different question to cut down on clutter n confusion. Thanks.

Are you sure the update notification you received is for lollipop? The S5 just received an update to the NK2 build last week. That update was still 4.4.4 kit Kat and not lollipop. I'd be shocked if this phone got updates this quickly back to back. If you haven't yet received the NK2 update, that is probably the notification you are receiving.
And if it is the NK2 update, it would appear you can root out using the same method for rooting NI2.
No I wasn't sure I just knew lolipop was coming out soon n didn't like what I saw. Thanks, guess I'll try it out.

Hey everyone,
Here's my situation. I updated my unrooted phone to AT&T's 4.3 update as soon as it became available. But as many of you know, the update was quite buggy. Which is why they postponed it and then later released MK2.
Well me, being my impatient self, rooted my phone while running MJ9 and manually removed a lot of AT&T blotware using titanium backup.
My question is, am I forever stuck with running MJ9? I know safestrap isn't available for 4.3 and from what I've read it doesn't look possible. I wouldn't mind unrooting, installing the new update, and then rooting again. But because of all the apps I've deleted I doubt it will let me.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated... Thanks!

Follow this guide by gtj0 flash the emergency mf3 files and it'll give you back the apps you deleted. Follow everything step by step and after you get back onto mj9 sideload mk2 than you'll have mk2.

Take a look at my other thread at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573637.
I figure the vzw version of Kitkat will be dropping soon and from what I've been reading I may not like Kitkat due to the way it handles the SD card. There are already other versions of Kitkat out there released by other providers. I wonder if there is a root exploit available once accepting the update in an unrooted state? I wanted to wait until warranty expired to root but not want to miss my chance entirely. Thanks for your help... Or even your opinions. I haven't been able to find a thread on this anywhere and it seems pretty important.

Hello Guys,
Any Help or Links to Related Threads will be much appreciated.
I have a Verizon NOTE 3, JB 4.3 SM-N900V MJE. I got it back around March 2014 I believe. I almost immediately Rooted it via Kingo. I do NOT have a Custom Recovery (although I would Love to install Safestrap) I also Froze the SDM app (updater app I believe) & Knox Notification app via Rom Toolbox.
Here is my Question, Since I still have Not upgraded to Kit Kat (although I want to via SexTape/Hashcode version) will I be able to Upgrade to Android L, Lollipop? Will I need to Upgrade to Kit Kat 1'st before Updating to Lollipop? I have been Real Nervous about taking the Plunge to Upgrade to Kit Kat (My old Razr got stuck in Boot Loop, Never got it out) but I want to have Android L at some point. If I Defrost the SDM & take the Verizon Update to Android L, I'm pretty sure I will lose Root, I basically want to know What do I have to do to get to Android L, Lollipop & keep Root with my Note 3 still running Rooted JB 4.3 at this time?

Android L is not an option right now and who knows what Big Red has in store for us once they release it. Knowing Verizon I'll have a new phone by the time it gets released for the Note 3. But if you want to go to KK see this post here....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55241731&postcount=2 and here....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2787627
Thanks for the Reply, I already have the Link saved in my Favs, I'm just to scared to take the Plunge for fear of a Boot Loop.
I know that Android L is not an Option YET, but I've read on other Android sites that it should be released late November. Even if that doesn't pan out I want to have a Plan in place or at least know How or What my Options are as to getting it. I'm starting to Wonder will it be Better to Not receive the OTA when it does come out & wait for the Wonderful Developers here to make their own Version with Root, because I'm guessing if I did take an update I would lose Root & it will be a while until someone achieves it through Lollipop.

It is ALWAYS a good idea to wait for the good guys (the developers) to get and trst any new release.
And just because Google says lollipop will be out in late Nov doesn't mean we'll ever get it on the VerizonNote 3.
Until both of the above mentioned are true, no sense planning on anything.
And if you're scared to go to KK I'm not sure why you wouldn't be even more afraid to go to L. Just saying.

Yeah that's kinda what I was thinking. As far as Verizon releasing Lollipop, I've been reading about Verizon Note 3's & Android L on several Android sites, Android Central, Android Authority, etc. I know that we probably wont get the update as soon as I've read. Verizon is usually the Last service provider to release the updates. I did do a lil more searching & now I'm reading that it may be April, May, or June for us Verizon Note 3 owners. As far as a Plan, what I mean is I want to at least know what I will need to do or what my Options are to get Android L when it does come out. Which is why I'm asking so early.
#1 Can you go from JB to Lollipop? or Do you have to upgrade to Kit Kat then go to Lollipop? Or does everyone just Not know right now because it hasn't been released yet?
Oh & Yes I am scared to Update to Kit Kat right now but I will do it. I am going to. I think I'm looking for some encouragement that nothing will go Wrong. LoL. I will do it though. Its just I've never actually flashed any ROMS or anything. I had a Razr I rooted & I rooted my Note 3 almost immediately but as you know that process is not that hard or complicated. Did you Flash your Note 3 to Kit Kat? If so, How was the process for you? Any kinks? Setbacks? Any OE on it?
I do have another question you may be able to answer now that I am on the subject. Should I do a FDR before Flashing to Kit Kat??? Will that make the process more likely to succeed? Also I installed the Xposed Framework a couple months ago, will that have any effect on Flashing the Kit Kat? Do I need to uninstall it before going to Kit Kat & if I do flash Kit Kat will I still have the Xposed Framework if I do Not uninstall it? Also Do you have a Link to just install SafeStrap? I want to go ahead & get it installed & play with it a little before flashing Kit Kat. I'm gonna search for a Thread on it now. Dont worry about posting a Link I will find something. If you could help me with those other questions I would really appreciate it. Thanks for your replies. I'm a Semi Newb wanting to further my knowledge on this. I love this stuff. lol Thanks a lot!

#1 no on knows at this point.
If you're going to restore to factory....then simply take the OTA to update to KitKat and then use Towel Root to root it.
All the answers you need are in this section of the forum....and guides are in the general section.

I didn't say I was going to do a FDR, I'm asking if I did would it increase the odds of Nothing going wrong if I Flashed the ROOTED Kit Kat version that is on XDA. BUT I also didn't know it was Possible to Root Kit Kat. Back when I rooted my Note 3, It was Not possible to Root Kit Kat. NOW I'm curious, I thought if you do a FDR that you would NOT Lose Root? True or False? Because I'm thinking if I didn't lose Root, Did a FDR, accepted Verizon OTA TO Kit Kat, that Knox might would Trip. I don't know but I think it might. Do you know? The only other Negative to performing a FDR & accepting the OTA is I could Never go back to JB, & the SD card Problem Verizon Kit Kat was having but XDA version did Not have. Although they may have fixed that issue by now. I think it's just Best I dig back in there & do a lot more reading since I last did because so much could have changed since then. Thanks & Sorry for all the Questions. Again I said I'm a Newb

Hey, I've been thinking about what you said. The accept the Verizon OTA Update for Kit Kat, then Root with Towel Root. If I was to do that Right now & I'm Rooted would Knox Trip?
In order for me to do that, Would I have to UnROOT 1st?
If I do a FDR would I lose ROOT? I don't think I would but I'm not sure.
Accepting the Verizon Update & Rooting afterwards sounds easier than, Installing SafeStrap, & Flashing KIT KAT. I'm not sure if it would be, but it does sound easier.
Which is Better? Verizon Stock Kit Kat vs XDA Kit Kat version???
Thanks

Heya. I have a rooted verizon note 3. I see i can get the 4.4.4 ota update. So i uninstalled root via SuperSU. I get an error trying to do the ota update. Is there a way to install this update without having to use odin and flashing stock? I dont want to lose all my appz settings etc. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Probably not a good idea to take the update. I'd wait until our trusty devs get ahold of the OTA and do their magic.
Yah, but i get pretty poor 4g for some reason and this update might (is suppose to) fix it. I read a lot of people have unrooted with superSU and installed the OTA update fine but for me it isnt working. Even though i dont have root.

That might just of been the best error ever, especially if you use root a lot. No way to go back and no known, released root at the moment for that version. Like above me has said, try flashing the NK1 modem using Odin and see if that improves your signal any.
Well, i just have been using the stock rom, rooted with safestrap. Id like to update to 4.4.4 just to have the latest OTA with whatever various fixes it might have. Before i did the update i uninstalled anything from wanam exposed framework wise. Then i did the "remove root" from superSU. I still have the unlocked lock on the note 3 splash screen after reboot and the OTA fails....says error at install screen. I have read other people have done what i have done and the update worked. What im asking is am i overlooking something? Is it really even possible without using odin and reverting to stock even though i have read people have had sucess????

If you want the benefits "fixes" of the latest, would be be smart to Odin stock so you are clean when you take the OTA.

I too have read ambiguous posts of people who have used the 4.4.4 OTA on a towelroot'ed Verizon Note 3s. I've been skeptical that this would work and keep root so thanks for clarifying.
I have a question though. Where should I look to keep track of the latest news about a root technique for a Verizon Note 3? Also, is there a place to contribute to a bounty for someone who can figure this out?
I ask because If you google "samsung note 3 Verizon 4.4.4 towelroot" there are tons of hits, but most of them are from eons ago and while I root my phone, I am not a developer, and so don't know the lay of the land. In the past I've just searched for "root verizon samsung note 3" and crawled through the resulting mound of irrelevant material until eventually I found the answer. Or is the answer simply that every few days I search again to see if anything new pops up?
I realize this is a totally newbie question, but I'm a long-time newbie: I've been rooting my phones for years but I don't have a lot of phones and updates only come out every so often so I never really move up the learning curve of how to do this quickly and easily. I suspect others have the same problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

It likely is possible to update and keep root. But if after updating you screw up a mod, etc. and need to get back to stock you will lose root permanently.

I read about 4.4.4 and didn't like what they took away from 4.4.2. I won't go to it. If I were you I'd 'towelroot'- (get the simple steps on xda), and 'beanstown 106' has all the firmwares for these phones, put the nc4 on w/ 4.4.2, then install biggins rom v7, then upgrade via dirty flash with 8.0 then immediately w/ 8.3- fast touch response and after about 3-4 days, you'lI be getting twice the battery life… I jumped up to the new v9 but they dont have the theme for it yet. I miss the Kromex blue on black…
Here's my situation. Last year I bought a Samsung Galaxy S4 unlocked AT&T (SGH-i337) phone from ebay. I am using Cricket. A few months back I tried updating it by going to the update area and checking for an update. I am on 4.2.2 and wanted to upgrade to KitKat. Well my phone tells me every single time it's up to date even though I know it's not. I decided to use Kies to see if I could update it using that instead. Kies tells me my firmware is also up to date. I gave up for a few months.
Now that Lollipop is out for my phone I tried once again doing the same things. Once again both ways say my phone is up to date. I looked through multiple forums to finally find a possible answer. My phone may have been rooted at some point and apparently if it was, it can't be upgraded. I read it needs flashed back to stock. I looked at a nice long guide on here on how to flash back to stock and saw you need to know which boot loader you have?
Please help me guys. I'm assuming my phone was rooted and have never rooted myself but I want to flash to stock so that I can upgrade to Lollipop. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Flash the nb1 tar file in Odin and then let it ota up to 5.0.1. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=50912149

I flashed it successfully and am now on 4.4.2 however OTA and Kies both still say my device is up to date. At this point it doesn't look like I will ever be able to update using these two ways. I looked around trying to find a Lollipop flash but didn't know if any of them were safe. Can anybody point me toward a safe stock flash for Lollipop, or does this not exist yet?

I flashed it successfully and am now on 4.4.2 however OTA and Kies both still say my device is up to date. At this point it doesn't look like I will ever be able to update using these two ways. The ota's are rolled out in phases. You might have to wait a day or two for it to show up
