So today while heading to work, I look at TMOnews and see that in Detroit band 12 was spotted.
I figure, well since I'm in Tampa, its a large enough market, definitely in the top 25. We have 15mhz of wide band LTE, so they should have started on 700mhz here.
Well low and behold, band 12 in Tampa. Works in elevator. Ha. Only 1 to 2 bars consistently as of now.
I have band 12 too here in Fort Lauderdale but I can barely get a good signal in my house. With the t mobile booster I can only get 15 down.
I had read that T-Mobile band 12 700 mhz is not being ran on full power. One guy claimed he got better signal with band 4, than band 12. Hmmmm.
Yea its definitely not on full power
But 1 bar seems sufficient.
Ok wideband has kicked in. My speeds in my bedroom have doubled and full bars. This is awesome.
---------- Post added at 11:33 AM ---------- Previous post was at 11:32 AM ----------
Oh Fort Lauderdale by the way.
Now my signal doesn't switch to 4g during a call anymore. It stays on lte the whole time.
They should crank that sh*t up
I get better download speeds on band 4 15mhz vs band 12 5mhz here in DFW area (right now anyways)
Luckily band 12 is still spotty here, band 4 is much more available.

Most likely you will get better speed. We are only getting 5mhz of 12 band vs 15mhz of band 4. Thats like a 3 lane highway vs. A single lane highway. Band 12 will penetrate building and basements. Also it can travel farther from the tower as well.
Argh! Was the whole thing about Mhz I have no clue about that. And how to change it? I'm sure if I changed my band I'd probably get better than -2MBPS.

You can't change it. Your phone will automatically choose the strongest signal. Well you can specify the on service setting. I tried and i lost signal completely. If you are on band 12 you are on 700mhz spectrum. The mhz number next to the band number tell you how many lanes of highway you have in increments of 5.

I called and asked for a signal booster and they gave me one for freee. It will help a lot in your house if you get one. However like me band 12 gives me stronger and more stable signal. They are still working on it for some time and it cuts out some times.

There is band 12 in the area surrounding Busch Gardens. The tower in the parking lot of Busch Gardens has band 12 installed on it.
Also try *#2263# and setting your LTE band preference to B12.

I got an N910U for use on AT&T in the US. All the phones in my house get full bars since I am on a hill near a lot of cell towers. Except the N910U usually has 0 to 1 bars and only rarely gets LTE. I used LTE discovery app to see that it is almost always on band 2 where the signal is very poor, but very ocassionally switches to band 17 and gets full bars! Then it quickly switches back to band 2 and gets 0 or 1 bars. I tried flashing the other two modems I could find, but it did not change how it acted. I am about to send it back for a refund and get an N910T instead to see if that works better, but it would be much easier to find a solution to why it won't use the strongest signal,
Nevermind. I thought I did adequate research on this phone before I bought it for AT&T, and every Q&A on Amazon asking if the U worked on AT&T LTE said it did. But were wrong. The U does not have 700MHz band 17. So I must return it.

SM-N910U Galaxy Note 4 does not support band 17, therefore the device does not support AT&T's main LTE band. The device, however, supports several AT&T's supplemental LTE bands, which include band 2, band 4, and band 5. You will only receive LTE signal if you are located in the area where one of these three bands is broadcasting.
Also, you will never receive the strongest signal that AT&T provides because AT&T utilizes device prioritization. The cell tower that you are connected to is programmed to provide best service to AT&T devices. The tower will constantly inform your phone to connect to 3G which is less congested in order to allocate network bandwidth for AT&T branded devices on its LTE network.

Yes that is correct. If you ran a speedtest with N910T and N910A (AT&T version) side by side on AT&T's network, you will notice around 5mbps - 20mbps difference between the two. As far as I know, AT&T is the only carrier in the US that utilizes this practice.
Can we change it to get the full Band access? I believe there was no any hardware limit on it, Most is on the software settings.
Hi guys..
This is my question: "What are the real problems without Band 20 (LTE FDD 800MHz (B20)) in daily use?"
I'm interested to purchase 6/128GB Chinese version.
I live in Italy, and my carrier is TIM... my 4G works on LTE FDD 800/1800/2600 (B3/B7/B20), and Chinese version has all bands except 800MHz (B20). Is this a real problem or not?
There is a method to know what is most important frequency in my area? I can't find one app that show my my actual band... i want try to test my S4 daily signal to write a map of most used frequencies in my area. Does anyone know what app i can use for this?
Depending on where you live and what you carrier is, you risk not having LTE.
EDIT : If you're living in the countryside, you "need" it.
Sorry but i've launched the thread after wrong click... i've edited the original post.
I know that i risk to lost 4G connection... and i don't want this!
But if i test my area's band, and 800MHz is the 1% of signal coverage.. the problem is solved! (800MHz is short range band, but strong enough to penetrate buildings, but i've ADSL )

If your area is well covered by band 3 and 7 then you don't really need it.
Band 7 : Short range, "bad" indoor signal, big capacity. Great if you live in some big town, with a lot of antennas.
Band 20 : Long range, good indoor signal, "little" capacity. Great if you live in the countryside, with fewer towers.
Band 3 : "between" the other 2.
Ok thanx man... now i need any app that help me to trace my signal, i want scan it in my daily use, to know how much time (and where) i really use 800MHz Band! Can u help me to find an appropriate app? Are three days that i try, but nothing, I can't find the right app.

Yes i know the Band20 (800MHz) importance, but in the end i've found a way to know which band i really use in my town (I live in a small town with 60,000 people). Simply using a Service Mode (+#0011#) i can see the actual band in use, and with my great surprise, i only use Band3 (1800 MHz) on LTE and Band1 (2100 MHz) on UMTS!!! I've found Band20 only a few times, and for few seconds. Ex: in my house i use only Band3 (speedtest 75 or more Mbps everywhere in my house), in 2 days no Band20 (but in my house isn't a problem, i've the optical fiber...) - Using my car i've turned around the town, and all town is covered by Band3, even the sea area, on the beach only Band3 (speedtest 50 Mbps)!!! A little problem at my work, in my office i've found Band20 (LTE) and Band1 (HSPA), but Band20 with -115 Dbs and Band1 -90 Dbs, and after many speedtest with Band20 i've max 5 Mbps, and with Band1 max 10 Mbps (But i work in a police central and i've a tons of PC - Radios - and it's really full of interference)!
In conclusion the Band20 is not really important for me! I do other tests and after i decide!
How is reception on T-Mobile? I'm used to flawless 6p service.

Are you in an area, or have you tried in an area with only Band 12 (700 Mhz 'Extended Range LTE') available? These are usually rural areas. (check the T-Mobile coverage map). My next phone must have good Band 12 reception and it would be great if someone could verify this for me with the Axon 7. Thanks.
Saw band 12 briefly in Brooklyn today around 74 dBm outside.

Yes I've been in Band 12-only areas (Kremmling and Oak Creek, CO and surrounding areas) and the Axon 7 gets a fine signal. Comparable to my old Nexus 6 and 5X. VoLTE also works just fine. The Axon appears to not have too much trouble switching from roaming to band 12 native coverage, but occasionally if you drive through the band 12 area quite quickly the phone won't have time to notice (if you're on a roaming operator prior to hitting the B12 area). This is sometimes a problem here in the mountains as the topography inhibits all cell signals, including band 12, and in the case of both Oak Creek and Kremmling you can drive through the B12 area in under 5 minutes or so and the phone sometimes misses it totally and sticks to roaming. But of course, every phone has this problem to some degree.
But all in all I'd say the Axon 7 is on par with other devices I've tried vis-a-vis band 12 LTE.
I haven't run into any issues in my area
Doing better than my Moto X Pure 2015.
I get great signal and speeds in Indianapolis and the surrounding areas.
i was on 4 days tour. T-mobile reception was not good. many times there was no signal. few times it was on ATT roaming. i dont know it is Axon 7 or T-mobile network issue. (states i was visiting are PA,WV,NJ,MD,OH.)
Has anyone heard if this model will work on Verizon? All other carriers suck in my area.
I highly doubt that it will, given that none of the previous models have been able to. From my understanding, GSM technology is faster and allows for better connectivity than CDMA networks like Verizon, which is why it is the only type supported by phones made in places other than North America. I could be wrong, but judging by the past I don't think it's very likely
Well they're trying to make this a global phone so if Verizon is CDMA:BC0 then it'll work as that's what it's listed to work on along with 33 others network bands.

No Band 13 = big problems for Verizon trying to get LTE working normally. It would work on the network I suppose but that is Verizon's main LTE band and also the only one that doesn't overlap with other carriers, like 2 and 4 do.

So this should work on sprint?
I put my Verizon Sim in my OP5 and it did get signal, but it showed 1x and right above it 3G. I did a quick speedtest and I was at about 1MB/s. I get around 70MB/s with my iPhone. So I guess the answer is that it does work, but it does not work well. I also don't know about MMS, I tried SMS and phone calls and that worked fine.
Will be tested on VZN as soon as mine arrives on Friday, if its not working on Verizon, I will be sending it right back to them.

It should function but it DOES NOT have band 13, which was mentioned in a few places now. Considering the price and the potential compromise, it's not worth it.
It has bands 2 and 4 but missing 13. No go for me.
Why is it so hard to add band 13. You have all the rest on there. Idiots.
We Verizon users hate Verizon devices but i will not switch networks. If one plus wants to be a true flagship killer and sell a lot of phones, they should include all bands. Verizon is the biggest network out there.
Thats my opinion.

I totally agree with you my dear Bulgarian friend, makes no sense at all to me. But I will see and give feedback as soon as mine arrives on Friday. I know from a fact that if you live in a fairly big city, band 13 is really not needed, down in ATL I am good with 2 and 4 on all devices. yeah, I'm usually on band 4 here in my town, but when I'm in my office building, it does switch to band 13 since it needs that lower frequency to penetrate the building. So I'd imagine I wouldn't have signal or very weak signal in my office. But I'll try it, mine's set to arrive on Friday as well.

yeah, I have wifi at work too, but I wouldn't receive calls or texts (does Verizon send calls/texts over wifi? I don't think they do unless the phone supports that option, which I doubt this one will).
I dont think so too, it will be interesting to find out. I am glad they are going the step forward to include more bands, but VZN strikes again. I am sure even if they added band 13, without VZN whitelisting their IMEIs, its still unusable. We will see.

So no Verizon compatibility?
Nope. It may look that way because the phone technically supports one of Verizon's legacy CDMA frequencies and a handful of its LTE bands, but OnePlus has no intention of ever officially supporting Verizon.

Pretty much.
Maybe I'm not reading this correctly, but when I use activity launcher to view what bands are available to enable, band N71 doesn't show as being enabled or a option to enable this. Comparing what shows as 5G on my McLaren vs my 7T show no difference at all between the two connections. Attaching the photo from what I'm looking at
This phone's 5G is currently non-standalone and probably difficult to configure. Or menus haven't kept up with the tech.
Could be the app needs an update to see it.
That being said on almost every speed test I have done today. My new iPhone pro xl is faster than the 1+7PT5GMCRN I think I’m sending mine back.

The 5G band used by T-Mobile's OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren is the low band 600Mhz; this means that the range will be significantly increased per tower at about the same speeds as the 4G LTE speeds. Our low band 5G range is 100sq miles per tower.

T-Mobile has multiple 5G bands just not all of them are implemented on large scale across the nation yet. For example the millimeter wave spectrum above 24 GHz, it is also referred to as High Band.
"Millimeter wave is incredibly fast, but the signal does not travel very far from the tower and can be disrupted by trees and windows.
We currently have 5G millimeter wave available in 6 major cities.
Speed: Fastest.
Coverage: A couple city blocks."
"Mid Band consists of spectrum between 1 GHz and 8 GHz.
Mid Band has the benefit of being fast while also covering a larger area than millimeter Wave. The breadth of coverage is vast and still delivers a fast experience.
T-Mobile has not yet deployed Mid Band 5G service.
Speed: Fast."
'Low Band consists of spectrum under 1 GHz, this includes our new 600 MHz signal.
Our newest, most powerful 600 MHz low band signal is the foundation of our 5G network. No signal goes farther or is more reliable, so with T-Mobile you’ll get 5G in more places.
Our 600 MHz signal travels several miles from the tower so we have a wide footprint. The signal also penetrates walls and deep inside buildings so it’s better indoors.
Speed: Average.
Coverage: Hundreds of square miles from the tower."

Could be the app needs an update to see it.
That being said on almost every speed test I have done today. My new iPhone pro xl is faster than the 1+7PT5GMCRN I think I’m sending mine back.

The speed difference for you is that drastic that you would return it? Was it purchased outright or you paying monthly into your bill? Curious since speed itsnt my main issue, it's the terrible GPS locking issues.
Looking at the configurations of the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren in the store; the 5G only shows when WiFi is off. All of the other settings is automatic unless they have been changed manually. You can check the main configurations in Settings>Wifi>Sim>Preferred Network.
I have not been able to get my McLaren to show 5G at all only 4G LTE. I spoke to a store rep which told me there is currently a software bug preventing it from showing. But.... They didn't seem to be too sure how the signals actually work, even mentioned MmWave for some reason.... Could be straight BS, I will do some more testing later today. My speeds are faster but not sure if its because of actually being connected to the n71 or not.

At least I'm not the only one. I've played with all kinds of settings, but have never seen it show a 5g signal.

Thanks for the tip. It didn't work though. :crying:
I got mine on Saturday, and I've had 5G without doing anything. Yeah, there's a few spots where it falls back to 4G LTE, but that's expected. I'm in southern California FYI.
Didn't work for me in Chicago north burbs.

Tried with no luck. I wonder if this has to do with a software version, what is on yours?
