Hey guys I was just wondering what your ram usage for the Virtuous Unity was, so post a screenshot or just list the info
I usually had atleast 300mb free with stuff running when I was still running CM7.1. Did I flash my rom wrong? or is this normal?
what I did.
1) Flashed with rom manager
2) Boot to recovery manager
3) Delete old files in recovery manager
4) Install Virtuous Unity from Zip
5) Installed the rom cleaner
6) Reboot
Is it just me or does this rom demand a lot of ram? I feel this really affects my battery life in the long run. Cheers
Hey bro we have the same RAM usage an I'm using the virtuous doubleshot ROM

The Sense UI is big and will use more RAM than CyanogenMod. But remember, unused RAM is wasted RAM! Seriously though, modern Android does a pretty good job of freeing up RAM from background process as needed to accommodate the active app.
Yes, as said before me, this is perfectly normal. As long as your average is above 100MB free - you have absolutely nothing to worry about.

Really. so do you run around swimming in all the pools you see?
an empty pool is a wasted pool! !
Sense is a RAM HOG has stated. But some of us like the slim down to business size of CyanogenMod. There is nothing you can do with Sense that we can do with AOSP.

If you like Sense ROMs that's fine by me. Heck i used VU for weeks. There is nothing wrong with them. But there isn't a major draw to them over AOSP ROMs. If Team Douche over @ Cyanogen could get a camera that matched the Stock Sense in quality i'd never leave. But with a 2yr old i need a good camera / cam-corder.

LOL. I've only recently started flashing ROMS and I'm sure I'll be giving other flavors (CM7, MIUI) a try too. The variety and choice is part of the beauty of Android.

He meant - speed dial in dialer, not on the home screen. And T9 contact recognition in dialer. And even when using another app on AOSP - you're stuck with either the ugliness that DialerOne makes, calling stock phone app to clear the notification, or without the ability to clear missed calls notification by tapping on it.
Also - camera, as you mentioned.
Also - proper Exchange support and proper mail application.
Also - proper copy-paste capabilities way before AOSP got them, and Sense browser is still much better in this department - stock Gingerbread sometimes misses the cursors position. Sense doesn't.
Also - ability for proper cursor positioning without trackpad (zooming glass).
Also - quick toggles panel.
And the most important thing - all that without making a single change in the system, without downloading and paying for anything.
There are plenty of things that Sense does right compared to AOSP, at the price of using more memory. Moreover, Sense pre-caches apps to memory, unlike AOSP (which stopped doing that in Gingerbread). Since this phone has memory to spare, and running 100MB or 300MB free memory doesn't make any difference besides the psychological effect of seeing the number - Sense or no Sense becomes a matter of personal preference.

most of your ram is being used by background processes. that doesnt eat up your battery, but what does is high cpu usage.
on a side note i prefer sense as its functionality is greater than other roms ive tried, both on my mt4g and xt720. to each his own tho

It's awful... I never have more than 100MB of free RAM space. And there doesn't seem to be any app that show who's eating up all of that.
System Panel Lite will show you everything.
And I see you didn't read this thread, otherwise you wouldn't be writing what you wrote. As long as you don't get below 40MB free RAM - you're fine.

Is it just me, or is touchwiz on a tablet actually really nice :L
i know it slows the tab down, but the widgets icons and notification bar r really minimalist and generally not bad looking!
And the fact that stock touchwiz hc roms come with polaris office and a pen memo means that i dont really mind the occasional lag it has :L
Im also looking forward to the ics touchwiz build aswell.
Does anyone agree with me?

Yeah that's the thing though, a while I understand touchwiz on a phone is ugly. On a tablet its actually nice. :L they (samsung) havent done that much in terms of looks with tw, which is gd.
So yeah, bring on the trolls
I don't really see it. I have been using touching HC 3.2 for as long as I have the tablet. I just recently installed touchwiz-less ICS and now never want to go back to touching. I do not miss polarised office at all since it doesn't work with swiftkey tablet x, and ihave replaced pen memo with quill, which was only 20 cents. But I guess tastes are different...

Well, there are a few things I didn't like about TW:
1. Bright settings menu. The whole tab felt that it should have a dark theme and in most places it did. But then there was the settings menu that feels out of place.
2. The statusbar is annoying. I don't know how often I accidentally made a Screenshot when I didn't want to. Or brought up the pop up bar which contains alps I never use.

Having a Screenshot function available is nice, but I agree. But I prefer the way the ICS Rom I am using implements it: hidden in the power menu. I mean, why would you need it readily available at all times?

Honeycomb is a very good concept but a "beta version" software: slow, laggy, unstable and incomplete in several ways... I got my G.Tab 10.1 in January and 2 weeks later I flashed (and kept updated ever since) ICS KANG and loving it.
That said, I do like the added Samsung apps and functionality (on both my Note and my G.Tab 10.1) so as soon as it comes out I will flash Samsung's ICS update.
The Note is already great as it is on the latest LB1 Gingerbread ROM so I don't mind waiting a little more for ICS BUT I really can't wait to get Samsung's ICS ROM for the Tab 10.1 and pretty pissed off that they can't seem to be able to give a less vague date.
I hope they make it up to me by adding the split screen funcionality shown off on the Note 10.1 and a revamped note app which syncs across my Note's S Memo app and Outlook notes..
I think touchwiz on 3.X is amazing, really improves the experience. I cringe whenever I see the stock notification bar (I have to open it, hit settings and then hit settings again to actually open the settings compared to open it and hit settings once in touchwiz).
If touchwiz is that amazing, what's HTC sense? Sense is great on both phones and tabs. Look at the HTC jetstream, HTC did a much better job then Samsung.
I don't mind Touchwiz. I like some of the little extras, etc. Stock Honeycomb is still fugly so TW helps a tad, but since it's so light, not much. ICS is a huge improvement on phones, but not so much in tablets. It's bascially what Honeycomb should have been in the first place.
I'd rather have HTC Sense, but since HTC never had any good wifi tablets last year, it just wasn't in the cards. I will say, the GT 10.1 has been a good tablet and does everything I need it to do, but I won't be buying anymore Samsung products like.... um.... Ever. My next tab will be W8 and probably from Asus or something.
I have never liked HTC Sense at all, Touchwiz is a great compromise between adding functionality and staying as close as possible at the "Android experience" (which keeps on getting better and better). Ideally I would like to have a consistent experience across all Android devices with, at best, "touches" added by the different makers and design and hardware to differentiate among them. Sense goes totally against this.
Guys,
Just ditched my nexus 4 for s4 due to brightness and camera issues which I hated the most of nexus4 rest the speed etc was completely enough for a average user like me.
what i miss mostly of my nexus4 is simplicity, whereas s4 is too complicated to use due to tooo many features which are hard to understand.
what i want to know is it possible right now to make it simple as vanilla...
sorry if i wasn't clear enough to make you guys explain.

Just spend ten minutes looking through the settings and getting it how you want it. Pretty much all the features that you don't need can be disabled. If you've had a Nexus 4 I don't see how an S4 could be any more difficult to use to be honest.

They've released the i9500 version and you can check the Model number of the device:
Settings->last tab->About Device->Model Number.
Just install another launcher like Nova or APEX, they will give you the plain stock Android experience you are looking for. I have Nova running and it actually sped up my phone substantially. I also checked the RAM availability before and after using Nova and essentially stayed the same. Give it a try.

Black and Neon Green colors? I'm guessing you haven't given Nova or Apex a try. It changes everything, homescreen, app drawer, and with Nova you can even set a theme color that changes the color accent colors of the Menus. I used to own a Galaxy Nexus, and I have the options using these launchers to revert everything to stock Android. Don't knock it until you try it, I mean really try it though.

If you're talking about Touch Wiz, the option is in the Touch Wiz app drawer. Hit Menu, then View Type, There's Alphabetical Grid, or Alphabetical List.
Just install nova or apex launcher. Works like a charm.
I prefer nova launcher though.
i'm coming from a nexus 4 as well i too hate all the preinstalled samsung apps, but I disabled most of them.
What I can't stand is the physical home button. Its not a deal breaker but i HATE IT
i switched from nexus 4 too.
things i hate about the s4:
1. back button on the right side because i usually use my phone with the left hand.
2. no recent apps button. so holding the home button is slow.
3. no aosp browser unless using doc's barebone rom. chrome and stock browser is so slowww compared to this.
4. bloated apps and bloated gimmicks features like smart and gesture things which slow down the phone. resolved by turning them off and using doc's barebone rom.
things to love on the s4:
1. nice screen, i mean really really great.
2. better camera than the nexus 4, the nexus 4 has cool tint, like blueish.
3. micro sd card
4. replacable battery, i mean just get the battery kit and have infinity battery. awesome.

Yeah LG didn't adopt all the great design features of Lollipop making it a lackluster update appearance-wise. Hopefully the system is smoother with better animations and transitions. I prefer stock android look so will be making it look as close to this as possible once a stock rooted ROM pops up on the forums.

We are having a friendly discussion here please don't try to start a war. LG G3 lollipop doesn't have expandable notifications, white app drawer, redesigned quick settings just to name a few.
Yeah I Couldn't completely agree with you as i have both LG G3 and LG G2, but the UI sucks of both kitkat and lolipop, the system is fairly smooth but the greyish color in system apps suck,so i had to theme them to look like 5.0 apps, and the G2 has got the G3 kitkat version, and i cant point out much difference in terms of UI Of both lolipop and kitkat in G3.

Hm, why do you think LG must implement all of stock android features? To them be undistinguishable from dozens of cheap Chinese smartphones that put stock Android because they lack money to develop own skin and launcher?
Have you heard about a new version of LG UX 4.0 to be released before LG G4 presentation?
I don't think they "have" to this is an opinion based thread. My opinion is that stock android or close to it is the way to go. The OP stated how the update did not fully realize the wealth of material design which in essence is true. Besides the transitions and such visually it looks the same. I have no idea how cheap Chinese smartphones made their way into this conversation. I guess you are calling my tastes cheap, dunno if you even understand what exactly it is you're trying to illustrate.
Hi,
Same as Kingfish907, I am also dissapointed how the LG customized, or rather "customized" it's android L version (mean UI). Simply saying, for me, LG's UI is ugly and seems almost like on my old galaxy ace.
I am disapointed also because just before I used miui v6 on my cheap china phone and you know what? Sometimes I really regret the change... Smoothnes, behaviour, configuration possibilities and look of this chinese system are even non comparable to LG's... But it's only an example. Also cm11 looks IMVVVHO better (and seems to be more flexible) than this LG .
So, it's probably depends on user experience and demands....

I've got the LG with the latest V5 software and also got a Nexus 10 with standard 5.1 on it. There isn't a lot of difference as far as usability is concerned. Both work well and both have very good battery life (the Nexus 10 is better, but then it won't make phone calls).
Alan
Why do you want white background ??? Darker colours make battery last longer ... And to be honest I think overall look of lg is more unified ... I like it a lot ... But do hope to some changes that will make it more complete ...

I came from Samsung and I hate thier touchwiz UI. If you ask me the LG UI is much better. Neither are as good as stock android though.
Sent from my LG-D852 using XDA Free mobile app
I recently used se edge in a shop, and just opening and closing the apps was just so smooth, it worked like the same slide up animation but better, instead of like the whole slide up and down animation of lg, the apps kind of like minimised into thr icon if you know what i mean. Also they had the same dialer as stock lollipop and i hope lg brings those floatong icons in there system apps as those look really nice with nice looking animations.
I don't mind the look of LG's UI. It's just the damn lag. I parted with my Nexus 4 only because it was beginning to show its age and start lagging. I got a nasty shock when I discovered that the G3 was just as laggy if not laggier. I mean, I always heard Lollipop would be the savior and would finally get rid of Android's legendary lags. But it seems to have made no improvements on that front. I'm just sick and tired of waiting for that "next" version that would fix everything.
I just love people and the lag .... My g3 3gb version on android v20H has no lag at all ... I don't really understand what are you all talking about ... We are talking here in milli seconds not in minutes ...

Mine lags at least 1-2 seconds 50% of the time in responding to loading text messaging, switching between Apps, etc. and its doing my head in. I had a Xperia Z2 which had similar specs but never lagged and I didng have root on that either. I have only had the G3 for about 5 days and already updated to Lollipop but that is not helping either. Any suggestions people?

Pls take your sarcasm elsewhere.
Where I live, the 3GB edition isn't available. Also, I am not talking about animation lags (which is of course present as well). I am talking about not being able to multitask properly or browse multiple sites due to the system killing background apps/tabs too aggressively.

It is just funny ... There is so much you can do with software .... And hardware then has a limitation ...in your case 1gb less ... I also have friends with 2gb model and they don't have any lag at all ...

I have no idea how cheap Chinese smartphones made their way into this conversation. I guess you are calling my tastes cheap, dunno if you even understand what exactly it is you're trying to illustrate.

About Chinese I mean that they use stock android, because of lack of developers in those firms. LG can develop it's own custom UI, with it's QSlide and such. If you prefer stock much more than we all here on xda,and have an option to flash any ROM we like, don't we? Choose one there http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development flash it and BOOM you don't see LG's lags

The fact that you linked the whole development section shows ignorance on your part. I don't need confirmation from you to run what I want on my phone I didn't ask for help with that. So far you haven't contributed anything to the discussion, all you've done is argue with other people tastes. Are you sure you should be here?

I'm really disappointed with 5.0 lollipop update for my LG, just looks the same as kitkat, hardly any material design.
I like what Samsung as done with their lollipop update tho, would nice to see LG do the same

of course it is CRAP .. been said 5.0 is FAIL .. that is why 5.0.1 released..

This is strictly for showing off what you have done with your N910P while using the 5.0.1 Alliance ROM!!! This is not the actual development or download thread for the ROM. That is located here http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...-0-1-allianceromn910p-18-themes-huge-t3066673 Please post screenshots of your Alliance ROM tweaks on the N910P. Also, to be helpful to others, tell if you have used other themes in your modifications. No bashing of others for what they have done. Be tasteful with your post cause keep in mind that their are some amazing young minds that are also on this site. I guess that's about it. Have fun & be proud.
Here's my mods. I am using the Carbon Blue theme from Alliance Control, my home screen is set using Nova Launcher with the Future 3D Launcher & Locker theme set for folders & background. The keyboard is from A.I. Type Keyboard Plus that I created myself & can be downloaded from the Theme Market, just look for Joebear1975. Today was my first day of playing around on this ROM & I'm addicted to it & can't with to discover & share my next mod.
A HUGE thanks to the ALLIANCE ROM team for putting together such an amazingly customizable ROM. Also another HUGE thanks & shout out to @lacoursiere18 for helping me set this thread up. [/COLOR]
Nice! I look forward to seeing more theme setups from other users. Awesome rom with tons of customizations.

I don't think you've done anything wrong. Just looks like your looking in the wrong place for the themes. I'm posting some pics showing how/where I got the ROM themes from.
Let me know if this helps out.

Nice. Are you using one of the preinstalled themes? The reason I ask is cause your font up top is small & I'd like to get mine smaller too, but I'm using a preinstalled theme.

I will definitely look for it, thanks for the info on that.
Would love to be a tester cause I always enjoy having the newest things available. Just not sure if I'd be able to devote the time to it. Live a very hectic home life, lol. BUT, I'd be willing to try & see.
To answer your question about fonts in settings,,, yes, got loads of them.

Save it as a theme for us to download
Done, named black n red 4
Edit: refined v5 wil be up soon
Your probably going to want to change the toggle colors. I just want the stock toggles gone completely but will I guess change them to transparent for now. I use an app notification toggle, and what's nice is that shows up on the stock lock screen without pulling down the curtain.
