Two stock apps missing - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone, my Note 4 hasn't got three stock apps:
- The voice recorder
- The S-Pen input that substitutes the keyboard(but the blue bubble is still in there)
How can I reistall these apps?
Extracting them from a factory image and copying them into /system/app didn't work and also apk install fails

5. Copy to system/app and do the rw-r-r stuff
6. Make voice search. APK a sys app
7.copy the voice search(i forgot the rest). Lib and test it

It Works! I copied the Universalsearch.apk but was nor able to install it. However, I copied anyway the Voice Search apk to system folder and inslalled it. And a little - working! - microphone magically appeared in the search box.
Thanks indeed

The universalaerch was never installable it just randomly works

tried...didn't work too well
Hi all, I tried doing the exact same thing but I couldn't get either of them to install successfully. I put both apk's in the system folder and set the rw-r-r type permissions for both. I get the search box and I get the little microphone logo to appear in the corner of input fields but when I hit it, it says "Voice search has stopped." Any ideas? Do you guys actually have the dictation running and are able to speak into the native microphone? Getting this to work would be huge.
---------- Post added at 07:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:39 PM ----------
Someone on another forum on a related topic was sayng google voice search needs the libspeech.so library into /system/lib/ to work. I put that in there, and the service no longer stops. The tiny dictation circle appears for like 2 seconds and disappears after that. I tried talking to it, but it doesn't ever light up red for me both just kind of yelling at it directly and thru a 3-prong headset. There's a little settings icon that appears in the corner, when you hit it quickly, you see the settings menu but it's gone after 2 seconds like nothing ever happened...
Btw, I have the 8.9 with firmware 8.1.3, rooted via bin4ry's method with Google Play and some apps from there installed.
Fantastic work. Got voice search working flawlessly on my Fire HD 8.9. I think the next step is to get it working with the keyboard, so that we have a microphone button on our keyboard for voice input typing.
EDIT: found a possible bug after installing dictation as it relates to the keyboard. After installing dictation features, the settings> keyboard option now defaults to Google voice typing settings, blocking the ability to set a default keyboard. To set a keyboard input method, you have to create a custom shortcut to keyboard> settings in a launcher to access the traditional default keyboard input options selector.
An upside that i noticed is after i installed a secondary keyboard (Korean) and changed the default to it, the familiar voice input microphone button is back.
KFHD uses a custom Swype and different layout from other Swype keyboard I've used in the past so getting Swype + voice input typing combined will be a bit tricky. Ideally, I'd like Swype with a button to cycle between input languages + voice input button
Okay, I got this to work...the lib step confused me at first. You need to copy /system/lib/libvoicesearch.so from the ICS package to the corresponding folder on your device. I also copied libspeech.so and libspeexwrapper.so for good measure, although I don't know if that was neccessary. Trying to install the apk packages failed on both counts for me, but that did not hinder the process Interesting that I can get all the other languages just by copying such small files.
Anyone have the ICS keyboard running so one can access the dictation feature in things like emails as well? Is there an apk for that? Kindle keyboard annoys me...
Google Dictation
Thank you, it is indeed working. Here is what I did to get the dictation to function:
1) Downloaded the correct package here: VoiceSearch
2) Extract VoiceSearch.zip to VoiceSearch on your Desktop
3) Copy libvoicesearch.so, UniversalSearch.apk and VoiceSearch.apk from the folder VoiceSearch to the Download folder on your Kindle Drive
4) Using Root Explorer, copy /sdcard/download/libvoicesearch.so to /system/lib/libvoicesearch.so change the libvoicesearch.so permissions to Owner: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read
5) Using Root Explorer, copy /sdcard/UniversalSearch.apk to /system/app change the UniversalSearch.apk permissions to Owner: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read
6) Using Root Explorer, copy /sdcard/VoiceSearch.apk to /system/app change the VoiceSearch.apk permissions to Owner: Read Write Group: Read Others: Read
7) Reboot the Kindle
8) Now go into Apps, you will see a new Icon named Search. Launch Search, then click on the little Microphone, speak clearly (I used the word Test).
9) The application will next ask you which browser do you want to use to display the results (I use Opera). Then just like that, your new journey begins!
you can also add the new google now stuff and just set voice search as the default voice dictation then you have google now and dictation except it doesn't work with google now itself

[Q] clockpackage.apk removed and cannot restore!

Hi All!
I recently have been playing around, removing apps and such from my S4 (stupidly without making a backup first) and removed the clock app, thinking it was just the clock widget.
I have been googling around for a fix for the last day and a half, and nothing is working.
Tried:
1. Copying clockpackage.apk to /sd and installing - FAIL
2. Copy clockpackage.apk and clockpackage.odex to /system/apps, changed permissions, rebooted, try to install - FAIL
3. Downloading different versions of clockpackage app to see if they would work. NOPE.
I just want my clock app back guys, without doing a full restore..
Any help is appreciated

What are you using to set the permissions when you copy them? adb, or a specific file manager?
If the permission settings didn't work, maybe a factory reset would be in order...

Barebone Stock Galaxy Note 10.1

Hi guys, I'm giving up on CyanogenMod. It is slimmer but it has more problems on Galaxy Note 10.1. If you have answer concerning the SDCard problem, please reply to my topic there.
Anyway, still I want to trim all those bloatwares from my device, so I did couple of researches, combining articles and tutorials on trimming roms on other devices (Note 1, 2, 3 and some other devices like sony)
The result? So far it's pretty stable and functional. Phone, bluetooth, wifi, sms, video call, stylus pressure sensitivity etc, all working just fine.
I also had several games, emulators and some graphic apps installed and running without any problem. No crashes so far.
I'll report more if there's anything came up. But I'm pretty happy with it now.
Might work on other tab/note variants too. So here it is :
1. Root your stock, using any method you want (I'm using Odin + ClockworkMod + CF-Auto-Root)
2. Use root file explorer of your choice and delete everything (or you can add .old extension if you had doubts, or maybe everyone's favorite, using freeze in Titanium Backup) in system/app EXCEPT THESE :

If you find any similar spreadsheet for other devices (Sony, HTC, or Motorola and probably even chinese handsets), or minimalist custom ROMs, please let me know, so I can do further comparison, and fetching more infos on the apks. Might just as well create a universal list for it. If I get my hands on new handsets, I'll probably do this too.
Note, from my list above, I deleted SamsungIME.apk (the default keyboard) so if you're doing factory reset you won't be able to type anything. I have myself a hardware keyboard to do the intial setups and such. But after that I used SwiftKey for my daily needs.
If you don't have any hardware keyboard at your disposal, leave it. You can delete it after you installed 3rd party keyboard.
I removed camera (SamsungCamera.apk) as well since I didn't use it much on my tablet. You can leave it if you want to, or use third party apps for it.
For the browser, I installed Chrome afterwards, since it have much more features compared to the stock/built in browser.
As for the multimedia player I use MXPlayerPro, fetched from Google Play as well
With this setup, from 345 apks/odexes I'm left with only about 78 apks/odexes. And it feels blazing fast.
that's 267 bloatwares/junks within your device, even if it's not coming from some service provider (OEM)
From 1 gb space used in factory settings to about 200 mb.

Basically it's from this thread
And using heavylildude 1x1 png to remove the included icon here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=43684011
Step by step :
1. Download the JamMasterClay's custom MultiWindow Cascade Icon
2. Find tw_icon_cascade_no_ab_default.png and tw_icon_cascade_no_ab_pressed.png (it's in vrtheme\system\framework\framework-res.apk\res\drawable-mdpi folder within the zip)
3. Update the zip using; replace both files with heavylildude's 1x1 pngs, (tw_icon_cascade_no_ab_default.png and tw_icon_cascade_no_ab_pressed.png) using any zip editor you use (winrar or winzip, any will do).
4. Flash it using ClockWorkMod recovery.
5. ????
6. Profit!

Thanks for the bloatware list, it's gonna be useful ^^
You're welcome. Be aware the list of the APK above is NOT listing the bloatwares.
Those are the ones you should LEAVE ALONE.
Additional guide :
Adding third party apps as default system app
As noted above, I've removed SamsungIME.apk, which is the default samsung keyboard (which I hated much, with passion) and replaced it with SwiftKey.
What you'll need :
ES File Explorer
Zip tool; could be Winzip or Winrar on PC, or I use ZArchiver for Android
Purchased apps are stored as .asec in /data/app-private. Using ES File Explorer app backup feature, you can save it as .apk and install it like common apps.
Step-by-step instruction :
After you backed up the purchased apps, uninstall the old (google play installed) one.
Open the newly created apk using zip or zarchiver, you'll find "lib" folder.
Copy the content of "lib" folder (usually with .so extension) to system/lib folder in your device.
Set the copied .so file permission to rw-r--r-- (chmod 644 if you use terminal)
Install the apk like usual using apk installer
find the new installed apk in data/app folder and copy it to system/app folder
set the copied .apk file within system/app folder permission to rw-r--r-- (chmod 644)
The app should become system app and will stay within your device even if a factory reset was done.
Tested on SwiftKey, Delver, ES File Explorer, etc. Doesn't work with MXPlayerPro (let me know if you had success with MXPlayerPro)

Aftermath, background processes and battery consume list. Also attached RemoveMultiWindowIcon.zip (flash it using ClockWorkMod if you hate the multiwindow icon).
I installed dropbox and swiftkey, so if you did a factory reset, you'll only left with 2 active background processes at most (excluding SystemUI and Android core, of course)
Also, list of apk/odex updated, with SecTabletAlarmClock_P4NOTE.apk, ContextAwareService.apk, SecDownloadProviderUi.apk removed, along with their odexes. No problem so far.
SecDownloadProviderUi.apk didn't do anything significant. I rebooted after I removed it, downloading google play still working fine and still give me some progress bar on the download.
However, I've lost the "downloads" icon, which means I cannot clean up the logs, and may be cluttered over time.
Edit :
A full day running the super slim tablet :
Running CSR Racing, Delver, Autodesk Sketchbook Pro, TrueSculpt and Google Drive/QuickOffice and tons of other apps without any problem.
MTP detected flawlessly and can send files from my computer through USB without problem.
Wifi internet run without problem, browsing from tablet work marvelously and also mobile data working properly.
Battery obviously last MUCH longer.
Found out that CSC.apk (after first boot/factory reset) and Personalisation.apk (not sure what it does, maybe had something to do with ringtones and wallpapers) are safe to remove. Can anyone confirm this? I've did a full unroot on my device. Well those two are minor, now that you're left with about 40 apks from 170 default apks (78 and 340 if you count the odex files). I think deleting them won't do much now. But just curious, whether they are safe to delete or not.
Also google docs updated
Tested removing these :
BadgeProvider.apk - those badges on the app icon which displayed numbers of received messages/notifications. No crashes removing this.
CSC.apk - Can be removed after first boot. Not sure what it do.
Personalization.apk - said to be safe to remove, and so far it is. Not sure what it do.
NetworkLocation.apk - provide GPS location through Wifi, didn't use GPS on my tablet anyway
Keystring_DFT.apk - contains sets of USSD codes
Keystring_factory.apk - contains sets of USSD codes
Keystring_misc.apk - contains sets of USSD codes
No errors/crashes or anything. Updated first post.
Updated OP, now that I can post links, also added original threads.
Enjoy guys.

[Q] Bit overzealous removing bloatware. Need help

As title says.. I was a little overzealous removing some bloatware, & I THINK this may be why I'm having problems with an app
I have a Rooted Samsung S4 with Android 4.3 (but unfortunately the KNOX has been 'tripped') which allows me full access to the phones built in apps.
(not flashed custom ROMS.. hate to go through hassle of reinstalling everything - especially game data, hence why still 4.3)
Thought I'd remove some bloat - so I usually rename a couple of bloat, run for a while to see if there's any problems - then totally remove them when I'm happy nothings goes wrong
Unfortunately this one time - I accidentally removed (i.e deleted) the default Samsung camera/gallery app instead of 'freezing'/renaming them (can't remember the names - I THINK they were something like gallery2 or similar) & of course I didn't make a backup.
Nevertheless I 'replaced' them with a combination of the google edition 'photosphere' camera (for the 'extra' features) & open camera (very small basic camera app) and use quickpics app as the 'Gallery' (even with these installed - still takes less space than the default Samsung Camera/Gallery comb IMHO)
I know that the Google Photosphere camera doesn't save to ExtSDCard, but thought this isn't a major problem as I can easily move them from intSD to ExtSD using ES File Explorer..(Yeah I know I could install some 'framework' thingy with additional plugin/script, but I'm trying to REMOVE bloat - not add it)
The problem I have, which I suspect is due to me deleting the default camera, is that I sometimes use Picsplay Pro to edit/crop/resize pictures etc. Under settings it allows the save location to be either 'Picplay Pro' or 'Camera'. 'Picplay Pro' folder is situated on the IntSDCard, while 'Camera' is (I believe) set up for the ExtSDCard
Picplay Pro works fine until I try saving.. if I have the 'Save to PicPlay Pro' selected - it works fine & saves the edited pictures to the IntSDCard
IF I select 'Save to Camera' however - when saving I get the usual 'PicPlay Pro has stopped for..' message
I suspect that it's not actually a problem with Picplay Pro app as such.. just that since the default camera isn't installed - Picplay can't find the correct Camera 'setting' to save to ExtSDCard (or something along that line)
What I'd like to confirm is..
IS it a Picplay Pro problem (anyone else having trouble using the 'Camera' setting ??)
IS there any way I can re-install the original Samsung 4.3 Camera/Gallery App(s) to 'fix' the missing setting - if so, how ?
IS there any file/setting I could edit to fix this problem ??
Can anyone offer advice ??
Many Thanks in Advance for any assistance
Extracting the camera apk from a stock 4.3 rom might do. Then copy it to /system/app folder (or wherever the system apks are), set the right permissions and reboot phone. And hope that it boots up
Thanks for the suggestion..however.....
Went to Sammobile and downloaded a stock rom (same one as installed in phone -took a while though) but unable to open it the find app...
Normal winzip says 'unsupported forrmat' ( or something like that), es file explrer cant open it.. but Bandizip did manage to let me view contents but all that in their is 2 file.. 1 large md5 and cant remember the other but it was v.small
Can you explain how I am to extract the required files ?
Or
is there someone who can post a link to a version ?
Once again many thanx for taking time to reply
Winrar opens them.
Thanks for that Lenny, it opened it .. now what ??
I used Winrar to open 'the ZIP file Stock ROM ('I9505XXUEMK8_I9505BTUEMK5_BTU.zip')
Inside are the 2 files I mentioned (I9505XXUEMK8_I9505BTUEMK5_I9505XXUEMK8_HOME.tar.md5' and 'SS_DL.dll')
I then use Winrar to open the largest file (the 'I9505...') & that shows me several files
aboot.mbn
boot.img
cache.img.ext64
hidden.img.ext64
modem.bin
NON-HLOS.bin
recovery.img
rpm.mbn
sbl1.mbn
sbl2.mbn
sbl3.mbn
system.img.ext4
tz.mbn
I assume that the apps are stored in one of these (I also assume it's the 'system.img.ext4' one as its the largest). however trying to open it with winrar & all I get is windows (8.1) saying 'How do you want to open this type of file. look for app in the store' - so I'm guessing winrar can't open ext4 files
I've googled and found that to 'view/extract ext4' use either 'ext2read' or 'Diskinternals Linux Reader' - tried both.. ext2read doesn't show anything at all - just a white screen & Linux Reader only allows me to 'backup' the system file.. I can't see no way to extract apk (cant even view the files inside tobe honest)

UPSM S5 Manager

Hi, I recently downloaded a UPSM manager. It works well but when I use a texting app that isn't stock, I don't receive messages unless I am past the lock screen. Is there any way to fix this?
Running on BPB1
I have tried renaming the apk sms files to match the stock messaging app name and copying it in the system/priv-app folder with no success.
Thank you for any help at all.
