Hi All!
I recently have been playing around, removing apps and such from my S4 (stupidly without making a backup first) and removed the clock app, thinking it was just the clock widget.
I have been googling around for a fix for the last day and a half, and nothing is working.
Tried:
1. Copying clockpackage.apk to /sd and installing - FAIL
2. Copy clockpackage.apk and clockpackage.odex to /system/apps, changed permissions, rebooted, try to install - FAIL
3. Downloading different versions of clockpackage app to see if they would work. NOPE.
I just want my clock app back guys, without doing a full restore..
Any help is appreciated

What are you using to set the permissions when you copy them? adb, or a specific file manager?
If the permission settings didn't work, maybe a factory reset would be in order...

So I've mounted the phone, used adb to delete com.amazon.mp3.apk and Twitter.apk. To check, I "ls" the directory directory (/system/apps) and it shows they're gone - but when I reboot they're still there.
I finally got fed up and downloaded Titanium Backup and used that to delete the same two apps. Was told delete was successful... but when I reboot the phone, they are still there!
Why can't I get rid of these annoying apps - I keep running out of space, so they're sucking up valuable real estate. What do I do??!!
Is there a hidden apk file somewhere? Is there some file that prevents them from being delete? Do I need to do something like Empty Trash?
not sure normally when i delete apps with Titanium they never come back
use systemapp remover. works like a charm
SystemApp Remover Doesn't Work
I get a message saying "File couldn't be deleted, try again."
I guess this is validating in some way - indicates there's something truly weird going on.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Has anyone found a solution?
Thanks!
I have used systemapp remover before and got the same error, just try it a few more times and it usually works. I think it is an issue with it getting root access to slow.
Still no Luck - Stock Apps still in there...
Grrr....! So I've used titanium backup, stockapp remover - as suggested by previous poster, I tried over and over and over again to delete via stockapp remover, but with no success...
Help! Why are these annoying apps STUCK FOREVER in my phone! One of the main reasons I rooted was to get rid of them... soooo frustrating!
Does anyone have a clue why I cannot delete them?
Thanks again.
Seems that the links from the menu to the apps aren't being deleted when you remove the .apk. Try running "pm uninstall <program name>" from either terminal or adb shell.
Ok, made a slight error on my end. I was having gallery issues and clearing the cache did nothing. I moved some files via Root Explorer instead of thru the gallery so the thumbnails are messed or whatever. Tried clearing the cache no dice. Tried to force it to rescan files, no dice. Said, ok i have solved this before by removing the gallery, and re installing it. So i copied the MediaGallery.apk file to my SD card and used Titanium Backup to uninstall the gallery.
Now i can't re install it. It keeps failing the reinstall. I have tried doing it from the SD card with Root Explorer, i have tried copying it to the /system/app/ folder and still no dice. Still fails install. Have it set to RW, nothing.
How do i go about re installing this app and the odex for it? I was stupid and didn't copy the odex. Yes i know, stupid. I have re-installed it before. I don't think i did anything different. I even changed all it's permissions to everything can be done(checked everything off), just in case it was that. Still nothing
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Yes i know i did somehting very dumb, feel free to remind me, but only if you can offer some sound advice first.
Why don't you just try the 3d gallery?
my only issue there is what happens when an OS or software update comes up? I would brick my phone because i lost a critical file that is needed for the update. Not a good thing.
I think i might just use Titanium backup to backup all my apps and such, make sure all my normal app settings are backed up too, then just do a factory reset. I read elsewhere that the reset would put the gallery back, in some other thread, i just am worried about how long it would take to put everything back the way it was. I will keep dicking around today trying to get it to install and if i can't figure it out by the time i wake up tonight (work third shift) then i will just wipe and reload.
Flash this, kind sir.

One...You are awesome. Thank you very much.
two...how do i "flash" it? Just install the APK or do i need to move the META-INF files too? Or do i just execute the zip file in something like Root Explorer?
Sorry, never done OS flashes either.

You have to use the "Install zip from SD card" option in ClockworkMod Recovery.
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
In case that wasn't clear enough...
You can either download "Droid X Bootstrap" from the market (It's like $2, I think)
Or you can download "Rom Manager" (the free version works).
If you downloaded Droid X Bootstrap...
Open it up and click "Bootstrap Recovery"
When an "ok" dialog pops up...click "Reboot Recovery."
You'll now be in Clockwork.
_____________________
If you download "Rom Manager" there will be an option to install bootstrap.
Simply do that...
Power your phone off...
And hold the VolumeDown+Power buttons until you boot into clockwork.

From clockwork:
Choose install zip.
Choose zip from sdcard.
Find the .zip
Click yes.
Click Reboot.
Awesome, thank you all very much. I already had the bootstrapper program and ROM manager, i wanted to get into flashing ROMs but never got around to it. LOL
Just flashed it and it doesn't show in the app drawer, but i can find it in /system/apps/ with the proper app permissions. But still no dice on the app drawer. I Rebooted twice more and reinstalled it each time, with no success. It has no Odex file with it in the /system/app/ directory. Should it?
Thank you all again very much for your help

Thank you SOOOO Much.
Got the gallery to show up, occasionally. LOL Every other reset it dissappears, but if i reboot again, it reappears. Neither the original or 3d work, still won't see any files on the SD Card. Whatever, i got it to show, can worry about using stock gallery later. Everything else can read it fine. Still need to figure out how to get it to stick permanently so i don't lose every other reboot. Never had this happen. I can even check titanium backup and it wont be listed in the apps installed on times it isn't in the app drawer. But the times it is in the app drawer i can find it in active apps in titanium backup...
Dear all,
Yesterday I updated my P7510 to ICS using the UK ICS release and rooted the thing properly. I managed to delete some of the preinstalled apps using RootExplorer in the \system\app folder, but for example I cannot find the apk to get rid of Pulse (what is the name of the apk in this case). Is it located somewhere else or is there another folder in which apps are stored as well? Please let me know. Thanks in advance.
Although I can help you with the location, manually deleting the apps from /system/app seems like to much "work". Just get Titanium Backup and uninstall (and probably backup first) Pulse and all the other via the app.
Thanks for your reply. In the mean time I kicked out all unwanred preinstalled apps manually, so I am only looking for the apk name of pulse
I found that some apps were just "Installed" have you tried to just uninstall them?
Sent from my GT-P7500 using Tapatalk 2
Not all apps are installed to /system/apps when you ODIN flash, check /data/app for the Pulse.
I flashed a no bloatware zip file and it is now gone. I couldnt find watchon in the playstore so i downloaded the apk. I found 2 apk files. One of them does not showanywhere in the drawer nor i can open it when i install it. The other one is tv.peel.samsung.app , and when i install it and open it from the drawer , it closes after a second or two.
I also re-applied these 2 files that im trying to install into system/app and the other one as well , i also put them into system/priv-app.
What can i do to get this app back ? I really want it !
Thanks.
If putting them back in the system isn't working, you may have to bit the bullet and reflash your ROM again.. Or restore your backup, you made one right? -- if you didn't I guarantee you will next time lol -

What method do you use to backup ?
Helium / My backup pro / CWM /TWRP / Nandroid
Hey guys,
I tried out the Note 3 Camera (I found it buggy and crashed, couldn't even use the front facing camera). I went to delete it and rename the stock camera app to samsungcamera2.apk but of coarse it's not showing up in the launcher or working because I deleted the corresponding ODEX file.
I made a CWM nandroid backup which I've got on my computer and phone but nothing I've tried has been successful in recovering the ODEX file. I tried with my paid Titanium Backup and the camera was in the list but when I went to restore it, it's disappeared.
I have an i9506 (international). I've tried unyaffs-x86-win but it won't work, I suspect because of the EXT4 file system. I've also tried some undeleting programs and nandroid browsers on the device (one keeps asking for busybox which is installed and the other just sit there forever).
If there's no way or I can't find it online I'll have to restore the backup in CWM (it took me so long to set everything up nicely too )
Any ideas or advice welcome
I figured it out, here's what I did for reference:
system.ext4.tar.a in Windows
Rename to have .tar extension and open with 7zip. It had an error but opened anyway and I pulled the files from there and copied to /system/app.
Job done! :good:
where can i download stock camera? thank you
