As the topic title says, i'm looking for a new phone to replace my boring xperia s (bootloader loocked...) and the maximum i wanna spend is 400€. So,for this money the oppo find 5 is the best option? The feature that i most apreciate is taking photos, and my xperia s do it very well...

The camera is OK but nothing amazing in my experience which is fine for me and Faux kernel has done wonders my battery life (+30-40%). Not sure the camera can compare to the Xperia.
Despite those niggles, I'd recommend the F5 above others to friends if asked but it depends on your needs. I certainly prefer it over the Note 2 and Nexus 4. For me is the sweet spot between size, screen, performance and design.
What else is on your short list?

Exactly the switch I made XS->Find5. I thought about getting the HTC One or the S4, but since I planned on running a custom ROM, I didn't want to pay for features I wouldn't use anyway.
Regrets? No. The Find5 has a Sony Sensor as camera, AFAIK the same as in the XZ. On stock ROM, the cam is pretty good, not so much on custom ROMs, though, usual closed source binary blob problems.

Hi!
If you are looking a brand new one, maybe this is the one with best camera for this price (I dont know anything about Nokia and WP) you can buy for that amount.
If you dont mind, maybe you can take a Xperia Z (same sensor, but better app) in the second market.
P.S: Yes, this is my first post in about 3 years LOL! (I prefer reading)

at the beggining i was thinking about xperia z (i'm a huge fan of the xperia line) or htc one (i don't like the samsung plastic), but i reconsidered that ... 550€ or more for a phone? i think it´s to much, so i stablished the 400€ limit, and for that money, and new phones (not used) i'm in between nexus 4 or the oppo find 5 ( i believe they are the only with superb specs and not so expensive phones ). But the nexus 4 is 4.7 inch screen, and an 8mp camera ( but i guess the 8mp i just a number).
3 things that i consider in a phone : camera; battery; development.
So, what you guys say?
If camera is a priority then you may be better looking elsewhere.
The Find 5 camera is OK in good light but struggles otherwise. My wife has a Nexus 4 and I don't rate that camera either.

I agree the Oppo is nothing to get mad excited about. The camera is very noisy. Actually in HDR mode my pictures on the Nexus 4 turned out way better!

Never had the chance to compare to a Xperia S.
But for the claims made by their commercial it doesn't live up to the promise.

I too am interested in this phone, one of my main concerns is battery life.
When you say you have about 30-40% more battery life, how many screen on time are you talking about? 5-6 hours?
Thank you.

Well you can forget the Stock firmware even with fauxes Kernel it will suck you dry. The best experience as far as battery life i had so far was with Cyanogenmod. Even so it is not running an optimized Kernel it seems to handle power mangement way better!
5-6 hours screen on is way over what you will be able to achieve with normal day 2 day use. For sure you will max out at the moment at 4 hours screen on time.
If you are looking for a new phone with lot's of battery life i would hold of another 1-2 month and see what others have to offer because Oppo didn't even release 4.2 yet but they are planning on in early August. Until then don't bother!
so, in conclusion, despite the problems with the camera ( which i think it's a software problem, not hardware ) for 400€, and with a custom rom, the oppo it's the best phone on the market?

Sorry just saw this... I've tried most of the stock/beta ROMs and as a light to moderate user, it lasts me about 24-36 hours. Without faux kernel I would get around 3 to 3.5 hours screen on (email, twitter, browser, Tapatalk, watching a TV show, taking pics/video and a few calls).
With faux setup for battery life, I can get 4.5 to 5 hours doing the same stuff and there isn't really a performance hit as I'm not doing much needing the phone to run at full speed for long.
It was really the idle drain that was killing it at around ~1.5%-2% per hour rather than ~0.8% with faux. Usually, I'm on wifi and have GPS on and leave them on when sleeping so it was overnight that saw a big improvement.

Yeah I used Stock to for a while and when you do close ups the camera makes some pretty nice pictures. But as soon as contrasts aren't really there anymore it gets potentially noisy.
I mean how much can you really expect from a smartphone camera sensor without any optics to adjust depth.
Your pictures are nice. I made some nice ones myself but they don't measure up to HTC One's Ultrapixel contrast and light condition abilities.
Funny part about all of this is probably that drivers neither on Stock or Custom are really optimized.
I do though still think the state the phone is in right now it is not worth it. Neither Stock Software nor Custom give you a really great experience with the device right now.

After trying numerous stock and custom ROM/kernel combinations, I have to disagree. Last week's Chinese Firefly is, IMO, very usable in terms of performance, battery life, and reliability.

Yeah and you will have to lay a little more weight on chinese open beta...
I installed the 14.3.A.0.757 update. Now my Z1, which ran so smoothly and hassle free on 4.3 is giving me stutter/lag more often on the home screen, when opening apps, and in settings menus
I did a full factory reset and it just comes back again after a couple of days. Apps themselves also appear to behave more sluggish than they used to. Maybe it's just my perception but I also feel like they open a slight bit slower and are less responsive when open. I like having voice activated Google Now but the increase in lag is bothersome, and doesn't feel as smooth and responsive overall as it used to. I don't run a ROM and I don't even use a 3rd party launcher (there was no improvement with Nova on it, I tried that too)
I have the same thing even though i didn't experience the smoothness of 4.3.
I notice apps like phone(book), e-mail/gmail and facebook have alot of lag during scrolling. Just like chrome hangs when i scroll on big pages. This is much worse than on my old xperia S.
I see the same symptoms. The phone seems to run slower and slower until I reboot it or it reboots itself.
Was worse on 4.3 though.

Your photo with the Z1, is just a bad take (not the same exposure, not same position)... it does many better... and I don't think that the S5 is really better that the Z1, on the party of photos... of more, this are of Screenshots, no??? because if yes, you isn't correct... the rendering at level of the screen is not the same, it's a amoled with pixels dead for the black, the constraste is more efficient... compare the with the Z2... Samsung without Amoled, they're lost (screen and battery life( battery life is bad with, imagine without Amoled)... Samsung = ****... Sorry
Amoled = Samsung oled
Oled = Sony
Sony have abandoned this technology because the rendering of colors is bad... (false colors)
And it's not the subject...
Not just a screen shot, but two such images were taken with autofocus. Z1 and s5 with 16 megap.but certainly not I'll never take ... Sony is not the topic .... but proof enough that Sony makes fade left with much poorer quality
---------- Post added at 02:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 AM ----------
I love Sony but did not receive the quality for the money that I gave you ... and I was very disappointed .... Samsung has won over the picture quality .... I am personally convinced of it when I got now .. . going to be sold and can not take even half the money for which I bought it .... disappointing ..... Camera disaster ....

Dudes wt F? This thread is about lag problems I'm having since the update.
something is definitely not right with the update, stock 4.4 is more optimized and runs better than lower memory consumption but the Z1 kit kat is the exact opposite. My phone feels snappier with 4.4 but some apps are slower especially the Camera app.

My best advice is of
Flash my rom ...
I made this topic, i hope it helps.
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperi...g-while-scrolling/td-p/691317/highlight/false
This scares me because I just purchased a used Z1 off Swappa and hope this doesn't happen to my unit.
I found a solution that seems to have helped a lot. First I uninstalled a few apps that were mildly offensive at always-on resource usage: BBM, Appsi, and Zooper. Then I enabled developer options and changed the following settings to:
Windows Animation Scale: 0.5x
Transition Animation Scale: 0.5x
Animator duration scale: off
Then restarted my phone.
It appears so far that I'm pretty close if not identical to the .681 build in smoothness and speeds. I'm going to leave it for a week or so now to see if any bad lag creeps back in again, but if not then I'm happy again.

None at all, my bootloader is locked.
Hello guys,
I hope it's not a too stupid question, but do you think it's still a good time to go for a Note 4?
At this moment I have a Sony Z1 and I want to buy a new phone in december.
And for now I really like the Note 4. The only thing that is scarryng me is knox. Is the lost warrenty the only thing you lose with root and bootloader unlock?
On the Sony's you also lose features and camera is getting worse... What's about Samsung?
Also I'm interessted in AOSP's... Are they stable and support all stock features? (There are really a a lot^^ without trying it's heavy to say)
I also ask because on the Z1 there are no stable AOSP's and CM is still buggy.
If you thing it's not a good decission to go for a Note 4, would you recommend another phone?
I'm sorry for my english and also sorry if I said something wrong or stupid.^^
Thank you!
Go for it. You wont regret it, trust me. (just bought a note 4 lay week coming from a s4)
If interchangeable covers (like flip covers with clip-on battery cover), removable battery and extra micro-sd slot are things that you care about, then YES, definitely go for Note4.
If the above list is "meh" for you, then go for Note5. If the S-Pen is not something you are chasing, then S6 edge plus may be a viable option as well.
I just bought my N4 2 weeks ago and I have mixed feelings now (coming from a Z3 Compact). The little Sony is way much faster and fluid compared to Note4 (even with the 5.1.1 update). Other than this, yes, Note 4 is a good device, actually brilliant for business use (I'm actually using it to take notes during meetings).

Nothing is gone if you root Note 4....you'll get way better instead.
But....in my opinion, AOSP on Note series is a waste, because it's removing all it's built in features.
In the last update (5.1.1), even it's stock ROM is awesome.
All TouchWiz lag is gone, but you must flash custom permissive kernel to root it or you'll stuck in a bootloop.
But even the bootloop on stock ROM after rooting is easily fixed by re-flashing the ROM.
Remember that Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is not an ordinary phone, unlike Sony Xperia Z1.
What makes Note 4 special is its stylus.
Currently I'm using Googy Kernel + Stock 5.1.1 for my N910H + TWRP recovery + LED Cover / S-View wireless charging cover.
...and yes KNOX counter will be tripped if you root or flash custom recovery & warranty void "officially".
But some said that they can even get a replacement device even after rooted when the device is broken.
Who knows...
I hope my information helps you
EDIT:
Some say that the camera is worse in AOSP.

Go for the Note 4 . 5.1.1 is smooth as hell and all the Touchwiz problems are gone ! Note 4 has the best looking display , Be it saturated AMOLED Cinema mode or the BASIC mode with perfect colour calibration . The camera is out of the world . It is very well implemented . I get 24 hours of usage with 5 hours SOT easy with HSPDA . With the Super awesome Screen , out of the world camera , swappable battery , MicroSD card it is by far the best deal .
Go for CM12.1 for Stock experience , Also I dualboot CM12.1 and stock so that I get best of both the worlds . No other phone attracts me after I bought the mighty Note 4 .
In the past few days I have went from the Z5 compact, then upgrading from the compact to the Z5. One serious issue with both devices is lag! My previous device was the Lg G3 and it was far smoother then this so called upgrade. Also, the camera had more detail on old G3. Whats going on, is this issue relate to everyone?
Typical Sony release firmware, it will get better with updates
My blade s6 felt smoother, somethings wrong I'll post a video up later it's lagging on simple things like swiping from home screens
My home screen is fine. I experinece lag when closing apps and opening the camera. Hope this gets fixed soon or I will be going with the G4
You should restore original config
I tried a factory reset when I had the Z5 Compact. Don't think its worth trying on the Z5 also lol
Does this phone also lag when scrolling in apps or browsing the web?
Man i have the G3 too, I'm scared to upgrade now. The G3 has been a great phone ,that is why I returned my Moto X pure because it did not feel like much of an upgrade besides the front speakers. I was so close on ordering the Z5 through amazon. Guess I'll wait for the Lumina 950XL with it's liquid cooled 810(like that'll matter)
When browsing I get the Odd stutter
Other apps seem fine tho..

The strangest thing has happened. The phone is now suddenly smooth! No idea why, but there you go lol.
yea each phone Needs to settle at first, especially when you synced all stuff and the System Needs to create The art files...therefore after full sync and redownload of all apps rebooting helps really !
I am guessing its the SD810. Also my Z4 tablet is lagging a lot. My Z3 Compact tablet is much smoother.

Camera isn't as sharp as my old G3 which I'm annoyed about as I got the upgrade to have a better camera for my son coming

I expected maybe a few small bugs as the phone is only out, but nothing as bad as this is.

Me and oranaise started working on it and we abonded it, because it needs so much time to fix all the bugs, (which we dont have) and also it is very complicated, cm13 is now very buggy and not for daily usage at all, we have already enough testers which were also reporting the bugs and made logcats, s3 neo will get cm13 but it will take a lot of time.

That`s more than any other phone can say.

No, that would be extremely unlikely. The chipset and a lot of the other specs the s3 has are totally different compared to the s3 neo. The s5 mini is our best bet since it has very similar specs.
